I think part of the reason genius is recognised in the STEM fields over the humanities is not just because humanities are looked down upon but also because it's a lot easier to tell
Like at the point which most people drop off from the STEM fields there are just universally accepted facts in the fields with only one right way to do something, 2+2=4, the sky is blue, this code will give you that output and the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell (beyond basic level though it becomes more subjective, like every discipline, the experts are professionally fist fighting each other over their pet theories, but to most people the STEM fields deal in objective truths)
Whereas the humanities is just more layered from entry, because to get a good grade in the humanities you have to have good reading comprehension, be good at writing, and know the subject, so there are more skills intertwined with every response, the STEM fields can have multiple choice questions, the humanities survive on essays
And then they are also just so much more subjective, there is no right answer, there never was and the humanities make that clear the moment you walk in the room, from basics you are arguing with your classmates about the importance of the weather in Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, what you think had the biggest impact on a country's economy, and - the one I covered the most - what factors led to the second world war (4 years I can't get back and somehow we never managed to properly cover the persecution of minorities cause it was all about the lead up but never the consequences)
You can't just look at the problem and be told they came to the right conclusion and then be impressed that they did that very complicated equation
You have to look at their answer, understand the argument, and either agree or respect it
So it's a lot harder for an onlooker to objectively perceive their genius
And to be clear, this doesn't make any subject superior it just means that genius comes in many forms and we sometimes overlook it
