like idk if u guys have checked the fandom tag on ao3 recently but theres been a bit of drama surrounding the fact that someone posted a smut-fic of Exer (an 18yo) and David (an almost 18yo, who was aged up A FEW MONTHS for the fic) and they were harassed into taking it down and making a fucking apology post ON AO3, THE PROBLEMATIC FANWORKS WEBSITE.

and this fic was tagged 100% correctly like it was very explicitly tagged as smut n stuff yet there were still a bunch of comments being like “uhm what did i just read 🤨” and when i made a comment defending the authors right to yk, not be harassed for making not even rlly problematic content someone who clearly would suffer withdrawal symptoms if they turned twitter off for too long started arguing with me abt how “erm ackhtually we should be allowed to comment harassment under ppls harmless and explicitly tagged fics cause theres no smut in this fandom and it shocked us” and u could just rlly tell they felt they were more righteous than God in their opinions and yeah so cut to tonight when i’m scrolling through the tag and i see a post titled “i’m so sorry” in which the author made a post basically being like “i’m so sorry for posting that ik it was disgusting it has been permanently deleted” which in the comments a few ppl were telling them that what happened sucked n stuff (myself included // judging by their reply they only did this to stop the harassment which yk, completely fair) and i went back to scrolling since i wanted an actual fic not fandom drama but like 2 posts down there was another post titled “please stop” or smthn like that where someone else made a post basically being like “guyssss can we please not write smut of these characters this fandom is so wholesome i dont wanna ruin it 🥺 anyways sorry this isnt a fic this just needed to be said lol” and like dude, my guy, WHAT THE FUCK?!

this is AO3, this is a fanwork archive that as far as i know was created (at least partially) due to the fact that ppl kept getting their “problematic” works taken down from other sites and the creators wanted to yk archive all fanworks. this is NOT a social media site where u can make callout posts abt how what someone else posted disturbed ur pure wholesome chaste scrolling by daring to uploaded something with *gasp* consensual sex between 2 consenting adults?! f1blr seemed more relaxed than some other hardcore divided fandoms i've been in but now i don't know, in another fandom a creator that's almost the sole content creator for a specific character blocked me for posting about a different character so that just kind of ruined the whole fandom and i'd rather experience that on f1blr as well because it's really nice so far and i really enjoy the races

Hello! Im the person whos paragraph style you liked, i think its evident i write fanction lol but also it just makes things easier to read if its not a huuuge block of text :P

Im glad you can see where im coming from though and the tragedy of people having lived these awful experiences. I do want emphasize that, while absolutely people dealing with trauma should see professional aid in healing(if theyre able), its should be noted that fiction is helpful in exploring feelings of anxiety and trauma from a safe place. People who have "positive" versions of some of these events can also be powerful in a way that helps put them in control of the situation and reframe their own trauma so thag it hurts them less. Prolonged exposure therapy a method used by professionals that specifically goes through recounting traumatic memories is found to be useful yielding positive results!

Most things done in fiction, so long as its properly tagged for the sake of others, can be beneficial in dealing with trauma. This is all to say that in no way do i expect anyone to just jump into this kind of content, and individuals can read this as a form of self harm and that it is up to the individual to practice self health, but as it can be cathartic to write it, it can also be cathartic to read it

(Ofc there will always be people who use fiction to play out fantasies, legal or not. Personally i see it as so long someone doesnt turn to hurt others, id rather they use fiction than seek content that exploits others or explicitly hurting others directly but this is just my opinion. Plus theres the additional nuance of what i mentioned before about people already holding beliefs that they should be allowed to hurt others for their own benefits but you get it lol)

Anyways ive rambled on enough, but i appreciate you hearing me out! Enjoy your time on the internet, and if thats by avoiding "proship" content then please do! I want you and everyone else to enjoy their time and space online ^^

Its 1000% fair to call out people who are entitled and privileged, esp after generations of discrimination and trauma (Im a poc too and I've had my fair share of marginalisation) but to make such a sweeping statement about a whole race of people...

Theres lovely white people, and I've met some genuinely amazing, down to earth ones throughout my life who couldn't give a shit about what colour my skin is. On the other hand there's other white people who blatantly hate you for looking a certain way.

In the same way, there's amazing poc whilst there's also terrible ones too. I worked in retail for a year and both times I cried was because a POC verbally abusing me. One of my own race, telling me I should take off my hijab because I "don't know manners" after she screamed at me to return her items and I said I wasn't allowed to because she didn't have a tag which funnily enough is also racism.

The only point I'm trying to make is that unironically the world isn't black and white, and I feel like making sweeping statements about a whole race of people just feeds into the vicious cycle of hate that we're all trying to break out of in the first place.

hi !! while i’m very glad you think i’m an eloquent person to talk about this, and i’m flattered you think highly of me as motioned above, i think i’ll have to drop this topic with the simple fact that i think the humor of that reblogged post was that the blog dm’d someone and explained why they wanted to block them, that they didn’t know how to block them, and asked if the other person could block them for them. it was just the humor of that concept i think that made that post blow up and the irony of messaging someone u want to remove.

i don’t tell white ppl to kts for simply being white and i don’t think ppl should do that, but i also don’t rly want to get into racial discussions rn bc i don’t think that was the real point of that post.

anyway i appreciate ur thoughts—they were all interesting points and ur experiences are all valid and i’m sorry you went thru them, and i didn’t want to ignore u, but i hope u can understand i’m not rly looking to start this discussion !!
