shark of the day: lined lanternshark, etmopterus dislineatus ------------------------------------------------------------ the lined lanternshark is a small species of lanternshark named for the subtle horizontal lines running along its flanks. they only grow to be around 45 cm(~1.5 ft) long.  lined lanternsharks are found in the deep waters of the central coral sea off the northeastern coast of australia. they likely feed on small fish and invertebrates.
