1. Song of the year?

I honestly have so many songs I loved this year. And I don’t remember all of them now, and it’s so difficult to chose…. and while I totally agree with iKON’s Love Scenario being the song of the year for everyone, I’d probably have to say Roller Coaster by Chungha. Truly a bop, still plays in my head at least once a week, to this day. Honourable mentions (mostly because they’re more recent) are Remember Me by Oh My Girl and No Air by The Boyz. (i really want to do a playlist for my faves of the year, though…)

2. Album of the year?

This one is hard as well oh my gosh, let me,,, let me get my phone. This year is so weird, I feel like most albums from this year are from last year, oh gosh… Also, I still haven’t listened to all the albums I downloaded this year, so this might change before the year ends, heh,, (I hope it’s from this year..) 10 Stories by Kim Sungkyu (from Infinite) was really good, definitely one of my favourites this year.

3. What’re you excited about for next year?

Hmm… I’m very excited, but also extremely stressed about my studies (if I get into uni kjsdfkern) so that’s one thing… I don’t know if it’ll work out, but we’re kind of planning a week together with a close group of friends during the summer holidays - they did something similar this year but I couldn’t go so… I’m looking forward to that as well!! ♥ And music wise, I’m definitely excited to hear more good music, especially from the groups I stan the most these days (nct/day6/stray kids)!! (and perhaps… more 3racha songs, maybe? pretty please…)

Just like any other day, Brian was staring at the clock on the wall ahead of him, waiting for his shift to end.

It’s not like he hated his part-time job. In fact, he actually enjoyed it.

He loved the wonderful smell of fresh coffee and the smiles of customers that visited early in the morning, greeting him and wishing him a good morning.

But not everyday goes by smoothly, especially when you get in trouble with a grumpy customer.

“It’s not a big deal Brian! Get over it,” his friend Jae who worked with him said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

“If you want, we could switch? I’ll get the drinks and you get the orders,” he offered and Brian accepted immediately.

I mean getting orders wouldn’t be hard right?

Well, it wasn’t hard until you came in.

Brian stopped in his tracks and took a moment to look at you.

You seemed breathtakingly stunning as you approached him and took a look at the menu.

He was in a trance because of you and didn’t catch what you were saying. “Sorry?” he said sheepishly, a shade of red painting his cheeks.

Great.. I look like a fool now, why am I like this? He thought to himself.

“May I get a cup of caramel latte please?” you repeated, smiling at his cute behavior.

Brian hurriedly pressed in your order and accepted your payment, handing you your receipt. He let out a sigh he didn’t know he was holding and looked over to where you went to stand.

And there he was, struck by your beauty again!!

He was thinking about how soft your hair would be if he brushed his fingers through them and how your sparkly eyes would look, staring at his own,,,..

Jeez what’s wrong with me he tried to shake off the weird thoughts he was having.

“A penny for your thoughts?” Jae asked Brian as he looked at the direction he was looking at.

“Looks like someone is in loove,” Jae said in a teasing manner but Brian just brushed him off. Trying not to be obvious, but oh dear he was more than obvious.

Brian was confused. He didn’t know why he was being like this. Is this what they called love at first sight? He never believed in it when his friends talked about it.

But here he was, falling for you in just a moment??

And since that day Brian continued getting the orders instead of making drinks.

Of course after begging Jae and promising him that he’d do some kind of errand.

“You’re really head over heels for them, huh?”

“Shut up Jae!!”

Anyway, you come back again after a few days and Brian has promised himself that he’ll start a conversation with you this time!!!!

However, there he goes again!!! Being the shy bean he is, he just takes your order and repeats the same boring routine without any change.

Brian scolds himself mentally. Why does his body not listen to him?? Why does his heart pound like crazy when you look at him!!

“Just ask them how their day was! What’s so hard about that Brian?” Jae half-yells annoyingly at Brian that day when they’re closing up.

And Brian wants to tell Jae that he just sort of forgets his words when he looks at you but decides not to. I mean who wants to be teased by Jae.

So Brian just promises himself that he’ll talk to you for real this time.

And he actually does!!!

“Good evening!! How was your day?” he asks nervously.

“Very good!!”

Sadly that was it.. But like it’s an improvement! and he can’t stop thinking about it!!

And you don’t come back for a week and Jae is like “you chased them out! So can I just get my position back? I miss not making drinks.”

Brian sulks back to his old position,,, thinking about what he did wrong.

And after a few more days you come back again!! And even though he doesn’t take your order, he puts a lot of effort in making your drink and hands it to you.

“Have a nice day-” he stops, remembering he doesn’t know your name.

“Y/N” you inform him with a smile “you too have a good day,, Brian!”

And!! He! Is! Shook!! But realizes that he has his nametag on but whatever you wished him a good day and he couldn’t be any happier.

And Brian didn’t know if it was the excitement but he talked to you again before you left the coffee shop.

“Hey, Y/N! If you don’t mind, what do you think of getting a cup of coffee together?”

“Uhh,, I don’t know,, I mean I literally just got a cup of coffee but sure why not??” you teased him with a smile because his face had a tint of pink and he looked really shy.

And his face blushed even harder but he tried hard to keep his cool

“What about dinner then?” he asks shyly.

“I would love to,” you reply.

“I’m finishing my shift in 5 mins so what do you say about leaving together?” he asks you and you simply nod.

So after he’s done with his shift he comes to you with his casual clothes,, and damn he looks good.

“So, what is this about? Is it like a date?” you ask him as you start to walk out.

And he looks around everywhere just so he could avoid your eyes..

“You could say so,,,”

And you just chuckle because he’s!! So! Cute!!

You guys go to a restaurant for dinner and talk about yourselves.

You get to know more about him and honestly he’s such a gentleman,, and he even offers to take you home!!

So at the end of the ‘date’ you exchange numbers.

“I had a lot of fun today! I hope you don’t mind if I text you?”

And you just smile.

So he actually texts you and you guys stay up talking about random things.

And the next day Jae is like ???? What happened bro??

And Brian just smiles and shrugs it off but Jae is not having any of that.

After spending a few weeks together you guys become friends??

You’re not very sure about your relationship,, I mean you went on a ‘date’?? But it wasn’t even confirmed and never brought up again so you just brushed it off to the side.

And one day you enter the café and Jae is at the cashier and he’s like “hey Brian! Your girlfriend is here,” and you both blush at the statement.

“We’re just friends!” Brian says and comes to you.

So anyway that night you stay up thinking about you relationship and suddenly Brian texts you.

‘Heyy, do you mind if I crash at your place tonight?’

‘Sure,,, is anything wrong though??’

‘Nahh my roommate has his friends over so I can’t sleep’

So Brian crashes at your place that night and you somehow end up cuddling while watching a movie on the couch and Brian falls asleep soundly.

You assume that he’s tired so you decide to stay still since you had nothing else to do and eventually fell asleep.

Brian woke up around 3 in the morning and almost melted the sight of you asleep in his arms.

How can someone look so beautiful and peaceful,,, this boy was just crazy over you.

So he carried you to your bedroom but being the clumsy person he is,, he bumped your foot on the frame of the door and you woke up.

“I’m sorry,, go back to sleep,” he said in a soothing voice and placed you on the bed.

He was about to leave when you just,,

“Can’t you stay and cuddle with me?”

And boy he was blushing so hard he was so thankful to the dim bedroom so he just lied down next to you calmly and took you into his arms.

He had thought of this moment so many times and even though you’re not his girlfriend or anything he’s still happy.

So he nuzzles his nose into you hair and holds you tighter.

“Hey Y/N,” he suddenly calls and you hum and turn around to face him.

“I was wondering if you would like us to,, be more than just friends??”

And you’re!!? because who would mind and you’re also like finally cause you’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks and-

“It’s okay if you don’t, I shouldn’t have said that in the first pla-”

And you just cut him off by kissing his cheek.

And shyboy!Brian appears again with this wide grin spread on his face and he’s so cute you want to pinch his cheeks

“So what do you say about being my girlfriend?” he asks and you just smile and place another peck on his cheek and he’s smiling but also ???

So you’re just like “yes..”

And he leans in and kisses you!!!

And when he breaks away he smiles and says “I’m so glad I asked you now because I don’t think I could have waited any longer.”

And it’s your turn to blush so you just bury you face in his chest and you two cuddle to sleep.

Okay so like boyfriend!Brian is so sweet and nice and he takes care of you so much.

Knows your favorite drink so he always has it ready when he knows you’re vising the café.

He always adds a cute note on your cup such as “Good morning sunshine!!” or “you look so beautiful today” and Jae sees him one day and teases him to no end,, /I mean he still talks about it till this day)/

But it’s so cute so you collect all the cups and now you have a big collection.

Did I mention that he is crazy about you? Because he really is and he looks at you so sweetly and tenderly and Jae is always like “enough!! Stop it,,, I feel like throwing up unicorns and rainbows,,,”

So one night you and Brian are stargazing /more like you are, since Brian has his eyes on you the whole time/ on the rooftop of your apartment and Brian just smiles, admiring you.

He remembers how your sparkly eyes resembled the starts when he looked into them the first time he saw you

And how he felt like the twinkling stars that glow around you were pouring out over him.

Song of the Week

If you saw my PS last week, you already know where this is heading. If you didn’t, welcome to Sam cannot handle the comebacks of her favs, featuring too many people to choose between.

Honorable Mentions:

Lay has a cool song that is in Chinese, and thus not really applicable. . . so instead of a win, I Need U gets the first mention spot!

I was ready to be super behind Seoraksan in October, because of the acapella intro with the cool filter. The guitar ruined it for me, though Yebin and Somi kill it vocally.

Nada is bringing back the early 2000′s fashion I was glad to leave behind. Trippin’ leaves me wanting more, but not in a good way. And the chorus is a little bit too into the whole random movement for me to enjoy it.

It’s the third song, and I’m already torn, and I’m already gonna write too much, and add a story . . . So, a few years ago, I decided I wanted to travel to Asia (specifically South Korea and Japan, it was awesome, both countries were great). And on that trip, I had headphones in almost constantly. And on the trip I listened to entirety of Royal Pirates’ discography of the time (3 mini albums) on nearly exclusive repeat, so much so that Seoul Hillbilly’s opening chords hit me with a train of nostalgia. Enough that James leaving the group was really sad. Enough that seeing a new track from them was bitter sweet. Enough that the video for Where U At, while simple, also felt so much more meaningful. Enough that I’m gonna need a minute. Also, Hasta La Vista came out too, and killed me just as much. Here is contender 1 for the win.

I’m more invested in the plot of the newest part of the Day6 Every Day than the song. The B side I Need Somebody is better than When You Love Someone. 

Idk how I feel about most of Men’z Night, but the chorus has this retro meets Bruno Mars vibe that I love. I here for an old dude going Ooh in a video though, so points for that.

Hey, I’m glad someone finally decided to do something upbeat and hype that I like, I was getting worried (not really, Yunho’s got me later, but you know, metaphorically). Luckily, Seventeen’s leaders have got me covered with Change Up: a perfectly good jam.

I’m not sure why I like B1A4′s Rollin’ so much more than the very similar song that BTS put out last week. Maybe it is a bias showing, maybe it’s that enough listens will make me like any style. Who knows? What I do know is that I still don’t know what rolling in the deep is supposed to mean, and I still love singing it as loud as possible to a good song. Here is contender 2 for the win.

Why is it that K.Will videos always have such good heartbreaking plots? Like the heartache is better than in some kdramas I have seen. Oh and he sings in Nonfiction, and it’s a perfectly K.Will-y ballad.

I like what Collective Arts is doing. And maybe Alone is right up my alley. And maybe if I hadn’t already listened to parts of 30 some songs today, Kim Hyunchang’s voice would be more my thing today.

Okay, so here’s the part I have been waiting for all week (though I didn’t wait for part of it, sorry). TVXQ had solo comebacks through Station. Changmin sounds ethereal and beautiful and ultimately a little bit boring for me in In A Different Life. I personally prefer him belting out a song, which he only sort of touches on at the end. I still like the song, I just don’t love it. 

I am often critical of soloist as performers on sotw because I have high standards. One of the people causing that isn’t even a soloist, but kills the solo scene when he gets the chance. And that is Yunho. Drop as a MV is easily my favorite that SM has done this year, and up there on my favorites of the year. That’s what happens when a director has a vision and SM says “sure, you get whatever you want”. And of course, when you add a legend of K-Pop whose charisma is through the roof, there is bound to be some amazing visuals. The song itself has taken me a few times to get used to. The rap is a little bit . . . underwhelming, but I will gladly listen to it when the whole rest of the song absolutely kills it. I love the hook, the chorus is super cool, and the whole song ends up feeling so powerful. It was not hard giving it a win to such a star performance.

And out of left field comes the other winner. For some reason I am draw into The Child. Maybe it is the drama of the score, maybe it’s the endearing video. Maybe it is great fit of the two voices in Monogram. It almost feels like a Disney song, and I mean that in the best possible way. I maybe fell in love with it, just a little bit. It may not have the star power and money of Yunho, but fuck it, this is my list, and it is adorable and I love it all the same.
