"I assume the one keeping watch outside is your subordinate," Dazai said as he entered the mansion of the killed executive with you by his side.

"Most correct," you responded. "He may not look like much, but he is of great assistance to ensure the success of our mission."

The living room was vast and certainly fitting for an executive. Pictures of his family decorated the space along with a carpet that was as red as the blood he lay in now. A fitting ending for someone who killed for a living, blackmailed and corrupted the economy of Yokohama.

Dazai was the first to approach the corpse in search of anything useful, but except for the lethal injuries and two bullets, everything seemed to be intact. No signs of breaking in, no signs of a fight. Thinking about it, Dazai couldn't recall anyone saying that a stranger entered or left the house.

As troublesome as it was, it excited him just as much.

“A fatal shot to the head and abdominal area. Rather than war, this is starting to look a lot like revenge.” A few photographs of another murdered executive were in his hands. Dazai skimmed through them, noticing that these two men were killed in the same way. One shot to the head, another one to the stomach.

This was calculated like a hunt and the Mafia still was the prey.

“Revenge, hm?,” you echoed his words. “I think I’ve got someone in mind, but..I can’t be too sure yet.” Picking up a freshly fired bullet, you stared at the piece of evidence until it was reflected in the abyss of your pupils.

Dazai looked at you with eyes that resembled the void. “Regardless.. Care to share your thoughts?”

You left the scene of crime as no insight was to be gained there. “A couple of years ago, a foreign organization settled down in Japan in search of someone worthy enough to wipe them all out," you explained as calmly as ever. "Mori ordered me to investigate the case and gave me a squad of my own. We managed to capture a good amount of members and I was to execute them.”

Although Dazai wasn't part of the squad assigned to you, he was certain that the Mafia would have taken severe hits if you hadn't handled the case. However, that was all he knew. “Let me take a guess. Someone managed to break free from your control?”

You nodded your head softly, sighing. “He got away and swore revenge. The organization is called—”

Two blasts sliced through the air and pierced the conversation. A dull thud followed. Your lifeless body dropped to Dazai’s feet. He whipped his head towards the source of the gunshots, but there was no one.

Had Dazai drawn his gun earlier, he wouldn't be gazing upon your lifeless body. Blood seeped from the center of your forehead, from your parted lips and your abdominal area. Eyes, still opened, stared at a shattered window up ahead. As he viewed your corpse, one question lingered in his mind.

If the sniper had managed to sneak up on the both of you without so much as a sound, then why did he kill only you and not Dazai when he was with you? According to your input, the motive of revenge seemed to be more and more plausible. So now that you lay dead at his feet, the organization should at least keep their feet still.

Regret was beyond a human such as himself. Dazai drew his phone from the pocket of his coat, wanting to call for reinforcements, to have someone examine your corpse. But no one ever picked up. All he heard was an eerie, never-ending beeping sound drumming into his ear.

"They're smart to jam the signal."

On the subject of the soul deals, I recently came across a YouTube theory by Mine Mind about how Lilith plays a role in establishing the Overlord power structure and the entire soul deal system overall that I'd like to add my own spin on. He and his colleague speculate that Lilith is the one who turns regular Sinners in Overlords through deals with her that grants them each a sample of her power and the ability to make deals of their own to own the souls of common demons. They also theorized that she used this system to harvest the essence of contracted sinners killed in the Exterminations, which she enabled through feeding Heaven's paranoia of a demon uprising against Heaven, in order to strengthen her powers and make her strong enough to overthrow Heaven's leadership, and that she used Alastor to off Overlords that were stepping out of line and/or threatening rebellion against her and her family. An interesting theory, but I have my own take on it that ties Roo into it.

In my take, Roo gave Lilith her powers, and the ability to give birth to Charlie that Sinners naturally don't have, in exchange for Lilith orchestrating the Exterminations so that Roo could harvest their essence to increase her power. A deal that Lilith held up her end of, but managed to slightly twist in her favor by creating the soul deal system to both make her more powerful while also robbing Roo of a large amount of soul energy at the same time, making Lilith stronger while keeping Roo weak. Roo, pissed by Lilith's trick, decided to get back at her by making her own Overlord (Alastor of course) and using him to kill off the Overlords in order to cripple Lilith's powerbase, putting Alastor on Lilith's shit list.

That's about as far as I've gotten with my spin on the theory at the moment. I still doubt that Lilith is going to be an outright villain, or at least not a straightforward one like other fans have been speculating, but at the same time I'm thirsty for my "Lilith the Machiavellian Chessmaster" headcanon that lives rent free in my head, and the idea that she's clever enough to stay 5 steps ahead of the Root of Evil is even more compelling to me.

I feel the same. I don't think she a villian. If anything, she setting up the chess board and nearly finish placing her pieces in place for her checkmate (Lute and Adam death, has her adjust some moves and reevaluate her next move carefully) for a 'good' cause that wildly questionable and misguided with a narrow minded purpose. But Charlie and co will implore Lilith and Lilith will concede her plan in favor of Charlie.

The theory I never considered the hierarchy being orchestrated. I kind of just assume overlords developed naturally. But I can pick up what's being put down. Lilith, being casted down as a sinner would probably feel a bit committed to sinners over Hellborne. Orchestrate the system for selected sinners (of her choice at the time) to gain more advantage-which in turn aids her own goals.

I like your version much more. More entertaining and would make such a delicious fic that I hope someone will take upon themselves to write.

Roo, pissed by Lilith's trick, decided to get back at her by making her own Overlord (Alastor of course) and using him to kill off the Overlords in order to cripple Lilith's powerbase, putting Alastor on Lilith's shit list.

It lowkey explains Alastor for a bit. Why he so much more powerful. It also explains why he station at the hotel. It's basically Roo moving Alastor as one chess move away from toppling over Charlie as a playing piece. It's a threat. The blade of a guillotine disguised as a fun and helpful tool that hangs over Charlies neck and just waiting the command to sever her head.

Alastor purpose at the hotel did not weigh anything to him in the beginning but I think its weighing very heavily on him that he grown fond and attached.

The idea sort of explain why both Lilith and Alastor was MIA for the same 7 years. They both needed to hide and recover from each other. Which is touch when one is the queen of the realm, and the other is an agent has a stalking reach of the same realm. So one had to take refuge by leaving the realm and head to Heaven. It may explain why Heaven is tolerate why Lilith is staying in Heaven because they share a common enemy.

The only real flaw I see with your version is Lilith making a deal to birth Charlie. Which honestly is a solid theory considering Sinners can't procreate and Lilith is casted at Sinner yet has a child. The only flaw is because Viv stated Lucifer birth Charlie. I don't know how that works as it seem Charlie seem to inherent some traits from Lilith. But Lucifer is Angel that can create things on a whim sooo *shrug*. But Viv can change her mind and take it back. It never made it into the story officially.

All in all, I really like the idea and I really wish someone write something of it so I can read it.

"Beetle." The woman cuts in quickly to introduce herself, staring daggers into Tangerine from where she's sat behind her desk. "Sit, please."

"Beetle." He nods, unbuttoning his suit jacket before taking a seat. Can't be seen making creases in his clothes, for his own sake. He'd call himself a meticulous person. Lemon calls him nitpicky. "… So the theme with your organisation is insects? Ladybug got lucky, there are worse names."

"Little Ladybug was my idea, names here depend on the handler and their view of their agents."

"He's specifically Little Ladybug?"

"Yes."

If this wasn't the prelude to such a serious situation that might have earned a chuckle, though his mouth definitely quirks into a slight smile. Ladybug's never gonna here the end of that from himself and Lemon, if things go well here.

Shuffling some papers away, Beetle sighs as she leans forward in her seat, arms resting on the table.

"You want him. Why?"

Simple… Deceptively simple, maybe?

Tangerine seems unsure, but given Beetle's refusal to ask more, he decides to answer anyhow.

"He's a good guy— Or he's trying to be, I don't know things he's gotten up to before that train. At that, Beetle smiles, gaze softening just a touch. Great minds think alike. "Go on."

Tangerine nods, crossing one leg over the other. "He's clearly skilled. Sure, things around him might go to shit, but it's obvious that he's used to that and— Uses the momentum to his advantage a fair amount of the time. A good fighter."

"The best don't like that they're good." She adds with a hum. "Emotionally, mentally… He isn't the most stable. Do you think you and Lemon will be able to take care of him, give him breaks when needed?"

He takes the time to consider this, choosing his words carefully. "I'll learn how to take care of him, I'm adaptable."

Beetle's brow quirks with the hunch of a growing elephant in the room, and Tangerine swallows. Barely anything said, and he feels like his neck's in a guillotine.

"You're free to go."

His heart stops. "We haven't cut a deal—"

"He's already yours. Hasn't complained, which is rare for him, so… He's yours."

It pounds back twice as strong as before, hand instinctively moving to take a file Beetle offers him.

"Everything you need to know about him is in there— And he's an open book once you can get underneath Barry's lectures. Just be patient with him." She advises, taking in a deep breath. Another bee leaving the hive. "Keeping in contact isn't mandatory…"

"We will, I'll make sure of it. He'll need it too, going from organisation to independent work…" Tangerine lets out a self-explanatory 'pfff' sound as he stands, tucking the file away into his jacket. "Anyway— I'll be off then. Thank you, Beetle."

"Maria."

Now he smiles properly, offering his hand for a shake before heading for the door. "Ta-ra, Maria."

malleus doesn't want to admit it out of his own pride and ego, but he was terrified when he found out that you ran away; however, it turned into fury when he caught wind of that unremarkable mortal creature that had taken you into its clutches. as much as he would love to take you home as quickly as possible, he instead watches from the shadows and sizing up that poor excuse you have as your mate. the moment he sees a frown on your face, he’s snatching you right up— not that he wouldn’t if you were happy. poor darling, you don’t deserve such a irresponsible partner who couldn’t even make you happy!

no, no. unlike them, he treasures you like no one else; isn’t that just proper of him— to promise and give you all the happiness he can give you? (even if it’s more or less to feed his pride rather than keeping you happy) don’t be fooled, however. he loves spoiling you and putting a smile on your face, but the way his claws tap at your ankles is more than enough of a threat of what should happen if you ever run from him again. he’s worked hard to get you by his side, and he won’t let you ruin his happily ever after.

riddle can’t for the life of him keep his temper in check the moment he finds out you’ve left him all alone. the servants in his home are scrambling, trying to get him to calm down, and it looks like a whirlwind passed through his room as a result from his temper tantrum. not even his mother can tell him off from the amount of rage he's exhibited out of her own safety. through some good connections, he's able to track you down in a cute cottage at the very border of rose kingdom and living with your little lover no less. he busts a vein when that lowlife kisses you in front of him, and he's practically dragging you by the collar back home with him where you belong.

he won't let himself be second to someone who doesn't even have half as many achievements as he does. hasn't he been the perfect partner, treating you so gently befitting of a darling like you? hasn't he worked hard to grit his teeth and stop himself from strangling someone the moment they get too close for his liking? and then you go do something like this? not if he can help it! as a proper punishment for your transgressions, how about you watch as he puts your lover's head under the guillotine? maybe then you'll stop behaving like a brat.

idia finds you easily, and he doesn't even get all that mad because of your disappearance for this exact reason. you'd literally have to fall off the face of the earth if you never want to be found his prying eyes and digital prowess. even if you live in a forest where you can live in isolation from anyone and anything that uses electricity, ortho would be hot on your trail who's much too eager to help his sulking brother to get his dear darling back. what he is most surprised and upset about is how you could replace him easily. he knows that he might not be the best of the bunch, but he's more than capable at being your partner despite being so antisocial.

he won't kill your lover; that's way too barbaric for the future ruler of the underworld. instead, he'll dig up anything or falsify information to make your lover hand you over to him. criminal records, embarrassing moments, family secrets-- he'll dig whatever he can find or fake them. he'll appear out of nowhere one day, dangling a document in front of your lover's face and watching their face pale out of fright. once you're back in his arms, he'll whisper how much of a baby your lover seems to be for making themselves more of a priority over you. so much for a love that would last, but don't worry. idia will love you until the end of time! he promises to be the person to love you for eternity as he stuffs food from the underworld down your throat.
