Hey so have you've been able to watch the proud family reboot? It dropped earlier today and I wakma know your thoughts on it, I have a mixed feelings on it myself
I don't have Disney+ and I already know I'm going to have to sail the high seas if I want to watch it for myself.
However, a good friend of mine does have Disney+ and they essentially gave me a good play-by-play of the first two episodes they released.
Before I go into this, though, I just want to say:
Disney, properly credit the people who work on your fucking shows. Just listing 'By WildBrain Studios' isn't going to do anything for the people who worked tirelessly on that show and need to put that shit on their animation portfolios.
Now, that aside... What I was told about the first episode was alright. The way the show lampshades the change in animation-quality by having the characters 'suddenly wake up in "new bodies"' was an interesting choice. I'll just say:
I had no idea that the gay guy in the group is supposed to be Michael. Not even in the frame of 'oh, why did they make Michael gay?' like some people on the cancersite are moaning because he was gay/femme in the original show. The change in design/voice-direction is what made me think he was an entirely new character.
The way that they wrote out Sticky, while already funny, is even more hilarious when you realize that they did it because Disney doesn't want to deal with Orlando Brown after his social media freakouts a few years back.
How are the Gross Sisters rich and collabing with Cardi B and whatnot... And you still have them ashy? Remember, the Gross Sisters only look like that because, canonically, they were too poor to afford lotion. Why are they still like that if they're rich...?
Fucking. Maya. So, when the promos for Louder and Prouder first started popping up and Bruce W. Smith was discussing introducing a 'social-justice minded character' I was cautiously hopeful that she wouldn't be an annoying cunt? ...Just for her to turn out to be an annoying cunt. Seriously, how are you going to be like 'Oh, I don't want to be friends with you (Penny) because you're superficial and materialistic and blah blah' when you and your dads have moved into an neighborhood with higher property-taxes than any legitimately struggling area?
However, it's what I was told about the second episode that had me going 'Why though?' Because, at first, the notion of everyone being obsessed with the latest YouTube beauty-guru Makeup Boy but Penny not falling into the hype seems promising! But then you have Penny becoming an influencer to show that 'anyone can do it' (fine) and, after her getting into an IRL spat with Makeup Boy, have her make a callout video where she goes 'What right does a boy have telling girls how to do makeup and profit off of it'.
Honey... One of your friends is a femme gay guy! How are you going to come in with 'oh, boys have no right to tell girls how to dress/put on makeup'?
Anyway, Penny essentially embraces her inner #GirlBoss and utilizes Feminism-Flavored Cancel Culture to get Makeup Boy cancelled. And then the power goes to her head because she starts cancelling people left and right (all the teachers at school get fired, there are no movies because she gave them all bad reviews, and even Suga Mama gets run out of town for daring to try and speak up to her).
And, of course, who is the one to finally knock Penny down a peg? Fucking. Maya. Not through anything legitimate like calling out Penny's toxicity or using socially-aware discussion to talk about how cancelling people doesn't do any long-running good. But she just so happens to catch Oscar doing something underhanded on camera and links it to Penny in order to get her cancelled.
Proud Family has always been a surrealist sitcom (hell, the B-Plot of the first new episode was Maya trying to guilt-trip Penny into saving a sentient talking panda from the zoo) but the plot of this second episode really had me going, once again, 'But why though..?'

Aqua Teen Hunger Force #41: “The Cloning” | December 31, 2003 - 11:01 PM | S03E23
One of my favorite, relatively unsung episodes. Though, on this viewing I noticed it kinda peters out a bit. Overall, it’s a strong one.
Shake destroys the TV and attempts to retrieve a new one from the closet, revealing that every time the television was destroyed in previous episodes it was easily replaced by one from a closet stash. Turns out Frylock has been using his cloning machine (seen for the first time in “Bus of the Undead”) to keep a steady supply stream of TVs because of Shake’s frequent violent outbursts. Unfortunately for Shake, they’ve just run out of TVs.
After a warning that cloning something too many times can lead to unintended side-effects and molecular break-downs, Frylock begrudgingly supplies Shake with one last TV. This TV starts showing Shake and Meatwad what-if-scenarios staring themselves, giving Shake the idea to counterfeit money using Frylocks’ cloner. These scenes all end with Frylock showing and murdering everybody.
This is a wonderful episode with a lot of hilarious bits. This has one of my favorite moments right off the bat: a reprise of the “This is your Left” puppet video we first saw in “Universal Remonster”. This time the clip abruptly ends with the puppet looking into the camera and singing “you’re gonna die!”, forecasting the rise of weird seemingly algorithmically-created children’s programming that has popped up on YouTube that inexplicably take strange dark turns. This is maybe one of my favorite moments of all time in the entire series.
What follows this moment is also strong, and makes for a good-ass episode. Good bits abound; like:
Shake’s inane run about changing the channel (his deadpan delivery of “change the channel” is so funny) just ending with Dana Synder saying “The Changeling” for no reason
Shake immediately destroying the TV Frylock makes for him despite his warnings that it’s “the last one”.
The “sitcom” staring Shake
The “reality show” staring Meatwad
Meatwad, horrified to learn Shake is still alive despite seeing his death on TV, immediately forgets about this shock because he wants to try out his jetpack
And, a gag significant enough to actually write multiple lines about: the running joke where Shake throws something and it explodes really reaches it’s apex here. I don’t think I’ve formally pointed out this running joke, but I’m doing it now. Every time Shake throws something to the ground it always explodes upon impact. This gag has been going on for a while at this point, and I’m not even sure when it formally started. But in this episode Shake tosses three dollar bills at Meatwad and they all float realistically to the ground the way paper would actually fall, but when they reach the ground they explode into tiny fireballs.
The DVD featuring this episode features a wonderful special feature depicting Dave and Matt sitting at their computers literally writing the episode. It’s been a while since I really watched it, but as somebody with an earnest interest in writing stupid comedy shows I remember finding it genuinely enthralling. They also show the process of reading the episode and taking network notes. The whole thing is hosted by Tom Scharpling wearing a cape. I remember somebody reviewing the DVD acting like the feature was placed on the DVD to bore and fuck with fans. I honestly love it and always have.

Tag nine people with excellent taste
I was tagged by @mandi-cakes
Also I appreciate being tagged but my god the cackle I let out at the idea I have excellent taste was inhuman. I’m currently wearing a scarf poncho, listening to Tuvan Throat Singing, periodically making bizarre noises in an effort to create my own language, and freaking the hell out of my cat. I am officially that crazy eccentric white chick they make fun of in sitcoms because they’re so fucking weird.
Favorite Colour(s): Black is very pretty and makes such a lovely contrast with other colors. Red is an old favorite but lately neon or jewel tone purples and blues seem more attractive.
Last band t-shirt I bought: I’ve never actually bought a band shirt. I love music but I’m not really into band merch. I would have bought a tee at the Fall Out Boy concert I went to as a memento but the ticket broke my wallet.
Last band I saw live: Ok I know I’ve seen a few bands like the Celtic band live at a Celtic festival but the only band I ever actually went to see live was Fall Out Boy a few years ago.
Last song I listened to: I am currently listening to Tuvan Throat Singing on youtube because it was mentioned in a linguistics video as an example of overtone singing...
Last movie I watched: ...I am drawing a blank. Seriously I’m either binge watching a show every spare minute or I haven’t touched the TV in two months. I think it might have been Black Panther, but I feel like I might have watched something since then on netflix I’m forgetting...
Last three TV shows I watched: I think... I watched a couple episodes of Justice League Animated cuz I was feeling nostalgic... One Day at a Time which is Hilarious and Wonderful! and hmmm... I know I’ve watched something else since but I can’t remember anything other than the most recent binge rewatch of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Last 3 characters I identified with:
Hermione Granger- the nerdy overexcited bookworm sister of my soul. Seriously I was that obnoxious little no it all that stood and desperately waved their hand in class. I Feel her.
Pheobe Buffay- I just realized writing the intro to this post. I’m Pheobe. I’m that weird friend with bizarre interests whose personality is like 90% quirk.
Drawing a blank on number three so I’ll just leave it here.
Books I’m currently reading: ...There are so many bookmarks in so many books. I either read in one sitting or take over a year to finish something. I think most recently I got halfway through rereading The Prisoner of Azkaban and started rereading Pride and Prejudice, but I haven’t touched either in over a month. I cracked open my Language and Linguistics textbook and The Language Construction Kit last week but considering I’ve been stuck on the first couple chapters for over 3 years that probably doesn’t count.
Feel free to answer and tag me if you want but I’m not gonna tag anybody :)

Mourning the end of your sitcom binge-watch? Devour the bloopers.
This is Ode To, a weekly column where we share the stuff we're really into in hopes that you'll be really into it, too.
Growing up in the golden age of DVDs was both a blessing and a curse.
On one hand, I wasted some serious cash building up a collection of movies and television box sets that are currently on their way to being obsolete. But whenever I watched a DVD, I always had the luxury of knowing my viewing experience would extend far beyond the movie or TV show itself. I'm talking about those beautiful bonus features — the extra nuggets of entertainment today's world is seriously lacking.
SEE ALSO: I miss the days before everyone was addicted to streaming services
Nowadays, binge watches come to a screeching, painfully unfulfilling halt once I've made it through the full series. While streaming is ideal for uninterrupted viewing, once I've finished a show or movie you love, that's it – I must accept that it's over, mourn its loss, and frantically search for the next great thing to fill the empty void in my heart.
DVDs provided a far more graceful transition period. Before saying goodbye, I could return to that sweet, sweet DVD menu and experience a treasure trove of cast commentary, deleted scenes, related trivia, games, and my personal favorite: the gag reel.
So when I've finished streaming a great television show, I try my best to mimic the DVD-viewing experience and head over to YouTube to bask in hilarious and under-appreciated blooper reels. If you've ever finished a show and found yourself feeling lost or empty, like you've just been ghosted by a group of friends you'd spent a straight week with, you need bloopers in your life. Trust me.
The best of the best
Throughout my own online journey I've discovered some pure bonus feature gold. For instance, The Office knows what's up and features full gag reels from almost every season on its official YouTube channel.
While they're all wonderful, there's a special place in my heart for the Season 4 bloopers — when cast members can be seen losing their shit during takes of Episode 13, titled "Dinner Party." The episode was SO GOOD that Rolling Stone recently published an oral history to celebrate its 10-year anniversary, in which the cast gushes over how hilarious it was to film. They clearly weren't exaggerating.
youtube
The only thing more pure than Steve Carell laughing in character as Michael Scott is Steve Carell laughing as himself. And John Krasinski breaks so hard that he turns bright red and releases an actual squeal. The 30-second clip of Michael attempting to show off his tiny plasma TV, and the below video of Stanley making the office erupt with laughter, are two of my favorite things.
youtube
Sadly, not all shows share behind-the-scenes footage as openly as The Office. While it's rare to find bloopers from older shows like Gilmore Girls sans DVDs, that shouldn't discourage your search.
The few Gilmore Girls extras that are floating around online are brilliant. They fulfill your lifelong dream of hearing Lorelai drop an F-bomb, and finally let's us in on what she and Rory gushed about after meeting in the Stars Hollow town square, post-Max proposal and Dean-reconciliation at the end of Season 1 (episode 21, if you need to know.)
youtube
And in an extra-pure blooper, fans of Lorelai and Luke can imagine an alternate reality in which the two accidentally express their true feelings for one another as early as season 1. Think how easy all of our lives could have been if this is how it all played out instead of leaving us in suspense for four whole seasons. But hey, at least this confirms what we all knew from the start.
youtube
There are wholesome bloopers like the ones featured above, and then there are shows like Parks and Recreation, with bloopers and improv so unexpected that you'll either applaud or feel absolutely mortified.
youtube
Essentially all of Chris Pratt's outtakes as Andy Dwyer are LOL-worthy in the sense that they're completely gross. From farting to burping to that extremely NSFW Kim Kardashian comeback story joke, these are the bloopers to watch for more PG-13 laughs.
Bonus feature benefits
Aside from the satisfaction that comes from witnessing professional actors break character, bloopers give you a chance to savor your relationship with the show a bit longer. You get to see the actors be themselves, and get a sneak peek at all the work it took to make the seemingly flawless finished product you just watched come to life.
There are bloopers for popular modern shows like Game of Thrones, The Good Place, Modern Family, and Breaking Bad, and classic favorites like Friends. Sometimes there are reels so long that it'll feel like your show's getting a mini-revival. If you're in the mood for a lengthy laugh, we recommend this 30-minute edit of LOST mess ups, or the nearly two-and-a-half hours of Seinfeld bloopers. Yes, really.
youtube
There are hilarious news bloopers out there and outtakes from movies, all waiting to be watched. You've seen your favorite actors at their best, and though it's fun to idolize talented professionals, it's refreshing to know that even the best of the best mess up every now and then.
And if you're still craving more of an insider's perspective, the internet is packed with deleted scenes, on-set interviews, and tons of other behind-the-scenes goodies from the shows and films you love.
Take advantage of the often forgotten entertainment extras, and have a good hearty laugh over the fact that everyone fucks up sometimes.
