there's a river that runs through my late grandparents' town called the Sugar River, the name apparently being an Anglicization of its Abenaki name. My grandparents, who were Jews from Brooklyn, took to calling it the Meshuggah River because it was so fast and crazy. They thought this was HILARIOUS. I don't really have a point with all of this, it just popped into my head this afternoon.

#that river is just one of those things that i think of as having a certain inherent jewishness to it #even though it's ABSOLUTELY not #it's a river with a garbled abenaki name in a part of new hampshire where everyone is either french canadian or polish #but in my head it's filed right next to u-bet syrup and the marx brothers #there's a kernel of something either profound or deeply saccharine here but i don't have time to dig for it #so i'm just throwing it out there
