[ post by Downstar @downstar_ao3: Just a reminder that fictional characters aren't real people that need to be held accountable for their actions. They are vehicles to tell a story. Their flaws and contradictions are a feature not a bug. And appreciating the role they play in the story is not a moral failing. ]
#dead poets society#I forgot which fandom an old fandom of mine took this tagging system from—but due to very polarizing characters in the source material#there'd be (duh) anti-Character and pro-Character or Character Apologism tags#that delineated space for people to rave or vent about a character as their personal preferences and emotional biases drew them to#and then the Switzer-Character tag is supposed to be for people that enjoy examining and discussing all sides...#...which is actually possible to do with a fictional character...because a fictional character is a narrative construction...#And it's all well and good to want to forget that if you relate a lot to a specific character#or love/hate something else about them that is not central to or even compatible with the mindset of analyzing a narrative construct#fandom sure does make spaces for personal preferences and emotional bias#that practically IS fandom#but I also like analyzing themes and plot structure and directorial/actor decisions and the historical context that produced the work#stuff like that#that...i think blorbo-stanning and anti-Character venting etc sometimes doesn't leave much room for
