So Who’s the Queen?: A Chess of Blades Review (Part 1)
A gay male dating sim with a recurring motif of chess references and not once are any of the guys likened to queens. How positively appalling.
That missed opportunity aside, this quick little indie visual novel caught my attention about a week ago and got me invested enough to generate two posts’ worth of discussion. Admittedly this is only the second visual novel I’ve actually played through - the first being the delightfully raunchy Coming Out on Top - but I’ve picked up a bit of other examples of the genre from fandom osmosis and watching playthroughs on YouTube so I’d like to think my reference pool is at least a little larger than that. Despite the apparent lack of a fanbase a few of my followers expressed interest in hearing what I have to say on the game, so here we are. Note that as this is one of the very rare occasions where I’m not presuming that I’m writing for an audience already familiar with my subject I’m going to do my best to avoid major plot and characterization spoilers in the event that anyone wants to check this game out on Steam. I will be talking a fair bit about the lategame sex scenes, but given the nature of Chess of Blades I don’t think anyone will be spoiled to learn that the main character gets up to an assortment of naked sweaty fun with his various love interests. This will be a review in two parts - this one covering my general thoughts on the game’s overall story, themes, and presentation, and the second one on the love interests and their individual routes.
Protagonist Rivian Varrison is a young nobleman of an unnamed kingdom modeled after a vague blend of early modern European nations. The son of a celebrated military strategist, Rivian is sent on his own to attend a week-long celebration for the king’s birthday at a remote royal castle despite his mildly antisocial tendencies and lack of familiarity with court life (and sex, because of course he’s a virgin). During his time at the castle he becomes embroiled in one of several plots by antagonistic forces that threaten to destabilize the kingdom’s foreign relations, and with the help of a collection of men who want to bone him Rivian has to avoid getting murdered, save the day, and also figure out what and who he’s going to be doing with his life once the party’s over. Oh, and there’s a quick handwave in dialogue near the beginning of the game establishing that homophobia is not a problem in this setting. Arbitrary sidestepping of serious real world obstacles, yay!
However, from my limited understanding of traditional yaoi homophobia is not often as much of a concern in the genre as might be expected, and this is one of several elements of CoB that give me the impression that, like yaoi/BL, the game is written with a female audience in mind. Rivian hits all of what I assume are defining traits of an uke intended to be identified with by a female player; he’s a waifish and inexperienced sub bottom with flowing hair and sensitive nipples, all of which come into play in some way for every sex scene. I don’t mind it though, because I just so happen to also be a waifish sub bottom who can find him quite relatable. Not the bits with hair pulling and nipple play perhaps, because I get next to nothing out of either, but I can use my imagination. Suffice it to say that CoB is clearly inspired by the conventions and dynamics of yaoi even if it isn’t always entirely beholden to them.
I wouldn’t even say it’s the sex or those particular dynamics that comprise the main draw of the game, because both the political and romantic storylines offer enough enjoyment on their own to encourage multiple playthroughs in order to see everything. It helps that the main conflict differs depending on the romantic route, and each comes with its own antagonist(s). Characters - love interests included - who act in a certain role in one route may serve an entirely different one in another, or they may not appear at all. At the heart of all the nefarious goings-on lies a shadowy organization presumably modeled after the politically divisive Jesuit order of the Catholic Church minus the religious motivations (the fact that the organization appears to be named after their founder St. Ignatius of Loyola is a dead giveaway), although there’s enough variety in the specific antagonists to allow for more than one reading of what’s really going on with all these murders and kidnappings and such. The distinct but interwoven nature of the four storylines manages to do a lot with a small cast and a compressed timeframe, and while I don’t think you’ll find anything truly groundbreaking in terms of narrative I feel like it would be rude of me to spoil the particulars.
Gameplay is...well...
...just that, really. It’s a series of fifteen or so questions with two choices each that determine which storyline and romantic route you’ll follow and then eventually whether you get the good or bad ending for that route. That’s a bit sparse even in comparison to other visual novels I’m familiar with, but it works well for what it is. The algorithm for determining the romantic route especially is less obvious than you might expect, as it’s impossible to favor one man exclusively at the expense of the others. Moreover, if you don’t favor one man to at least some degree Rivian gets murdered before the plot even gets properly started in a generic bad ending that’s almost comical in how unexpected it is.
Presentation is a bit of a mixed bag. The artwork is serviceable and even quite good at points. but there’s a fair amount of stylistic variation and the NSFW art in particular doesn’t impress me very much. The soundtrack is excellent for an indie game, with fourteen original pieces that all do a great job of matching the tone and atmosphere of the scenes. I have no complaints about the writing apart from the odd typo or awkward phrasing choice, although there are a few quirks I couldn’t help but pick up on. For instance - Rivian, all of the love interests, and several of the side characters get compared to animals at multiple points. In exactly one scenario there’s the implication that this might lead into some offscreen pet play, but aside from that it’s just a rhetorical device. Maybe Rivian is secretly a furry? The chess motif is also less prevalent than I was expecting; it’s actually more prominent in the names and icons of the game’s Steam achievements, rather than in the game itself.
Then there’s the matter of the voice acting. While I appreciate the ambition of an erotic visual novel with multiple routes having full voice acting, the execution often leaves something to be desired for a number of reasons. The most common is that the VAs affect noticeable accents for many of the characters, usually to make them sound posh and refined, and either because of inexperience or because of just how strong the accents can get some of their line reads can come across as stilted or unnaturally paced. Rivian is unfortunately one of the more notable offenders. He’s the character with whom the player is meant to identify, and yet his voice is so obviously affected that it took me some time to stop thinking of him as a parody of a nobleman designed purely as comic relief. I found his voice less distracting in major emotional scenes thankfully, although on that note I also have to point out that the sex scenes are fully voiced as well. This doesn’t help anyone on the whole, not least because of how difficult it can be to authentically vocalize getting your dick sucked or taking a cock in your tight virginal hole. Also...there are sound effects for some of the kissing and blowjob scenes, and I really wish there weren’t. In all seriousness, if you’re audibly slurping that much while doing either of those things you’re either being intentionally sloppy because your partner’s into that or you’re extremely slow on the uptake about what to do with a penis or someone else’s tongue in your mouth. I suppose I should be thankful that we’re spared tonguing sounds during the rimjob scenes or the slapping of balls on ass. It’s worth noting that the option to mute some or all of the voice acting exists, but I stuck it out because there were some performances I genuinely liked and because I was determined to get the full experience - for better or worse.
Whether what I described above justifies the rather steep price tag for an indie visual novel (because of the voice acting, possibly?) is a personal call, but for what it’s worth I enjoyed my time with the game in spite of those shortcomings and do recommend it for fans of period M/M romance, particularly the kind you’re likely to find in Japanese properties like the ones from which CoB clearly draws inspiration. I feel like I’m getting ahead of myself, though, as this post is going to have a second part. Next time I’ll be critiquing each of the four love interests both in and out of bed, which will undoubtedly make for a fun and extremely filthy bit of writing.

“Homestuck Isn’t Dead” Tag i know this is supposed to be like ask tag, or one day - one paragraph tag, but i dont have enough follovers for first and enough patience for second, so im posting it as it is warning: tipsy typing, so i might have a lot of typos and mistakes 1. Do you have a chum handle? What does it mean? um, no? i have "metaphora_madness" one, designed to kinda resemble ones, but it does not strictly folllow the rules 2. Is your username homestuck related/have you had one hs related? nope, never! i always try to create something original and mine 3. Do you call your s/o a matesprit? 1) i dont have a s/o 2) if i had, id never do that 4. Do you call your best friend your moirail? lol noooo. my best friend is a ordinary person and knows nothing about homestuck 5. Are you “kin” with any characters or commonly called a character? nope, but extended zodiac test said im a true aries, does that count? 6. God Tier? true aries means derse+time, but speaking about class i have no idea, maybe ill figure it out later 7. Do you make HS fanart? i cant draw, so no 8. Do you make hs fanfiction? i CAN write, but no, i never wrote any fanfiction 9. Do you roleplay homestuck? where and how often? omg no, i thik its weird. no offence, ill just never participate in something like this 10. Do you cosplay homestuck characters? Who and where? OMG YES! actually the only time i went out in a homestuck related cosplay was summer 2015 with my dead aradia, and since then i never did a full cosplay, but recently i tried a couple of costests, and some of them gained A LOT of appreciation! 11. Are you apart of ask blogs? i have no idea what "apart" supposed to mean here, but i have never ran or asked any ask blogs 12. Are you in any homestuck groups? again, no idea what initially "groups" was supposed to mean, like, internet communities, or real life meetups, but no, never. i am an old, boring and asocial person unfortunately 13. Favorite character? aradia ♥♥♥ 14. Least favorite character? no idea, theres a lot i dont really like, but none in particular 15. OTP? i try to avoid shipping, so nope 16. NOTP? nope 17. BROTP? nope 18. Do you want homestuck to just die already? what. when i got into homestuck in 2015, it was kinda dead already and i was really upset by that, so no, i want it to revive! and hiveswap really helps 19. Are you following up with hiveswap? Do you play? Watch YT videos? i do! and i have hiveswap installed, but my laptop just instantly dies from overheating when i try to play, so i never moved further than joey's room yet 20. Tell us how homestuck has effected you in real life? no idea, i never thought about that! apart from falling in love with the colour red and wearing my aries tee like everyday. and probably also connecting any zodiac signs and real people under these signs with troll characters lol 21. Have you met anyone through homestuck? no, i try to avoid hs fandom people in real life bc they are mostly teens and really weird behaving. and my contemporary old geek friends were either already done with hs the moment i got into it, or not really eager to get into it 22. Have you left the fandom before? i never really was "in fandom" until troll call happened lol 23. How many times have you read through it? currently on my 3rd readthrough, first in spring 2015, second in spring 2016, recent one i started in kinda november 2017 and currently stuck on ACT 5 ACT 1. this one is my first readtrough in english on original site actually. first 2 were of a fan translate, which was really accurate though 24. Did you ever skip intermissions/dialog/animations? i was going to say no, never, but i probably skipped a couple of flash animations on my 2nd readthrough bc this was at work when i had nothing to do but still dreaded that my supervisor will roast me about watching cartoons lol 25. Opinions on the fandom? it depends. theres a lot of good people, but theres a lot of weird people too though. and theres a lot of good but weird people which i have no problem with! 26. Opinions on the comic? haha, would i post this if the comic was crap??? it's perfect! i have less morality level that the fandom teens, so im totally ok with some awful shit that happens in comic bc its still not in real life. i enjoy it as it is 27. Do you favor the trolls, humans, or carapaces? or cherubs? but yeah, trolls, of course. i am an old ass dark elfs' fan, so i have a soft spot for any grey-skinned character 28. Favorite moment of all of homestuck? i dont specifically have one or just forgot it, i have no idea. to name one, it's probably the beforus arc and those 3 walkthrough games with dancestors? i dont even remember how it's called, bit i liked those 29. Least favorite moment of all of homestuck? act 1, before all sburb fun starts. i know its important for plot and story and all that, but its sooo boring that i actually started reading hs in 2014, went through first 5 or 10 pages and dropped it until good times, that actually happened year later 30. Tell us a homestuck based story. i have no idea what should i share here! like, i wear my aries tee a lot, and one or two times i might or might not hear something like "ewwww, homosuck!" on streets from people passing by, but im not sure. and at a con in 2015 when i was in my dead aradia cosplay, i had some non-cosplaying teens approaching me and appreciating my cosplay and saying "you are SOOO CANONIC", but 99% of HS cosplayers there acted like they dont see me at all as if im a real ghost? and there's a lot of stories like this but im not sure if i should share those here 31. How homestuck related is your blog? like, 80%? i still post life stuff and other stuff i like, but it's mostly hs

Can you rec any stories?
Oh boy. You better strap in, because I have read a lot of fics. Most of these will probably be Dick Grayson centric, though, so just a fair warning. I’ve seen a couple people format fic recs like this, and I really like it. I hope it’s organized enough!
Of course, you can always go through my fic recs tag, too!
The Bonds that Tie by DawnsEternalLight Words: 59,507 (between 2 fics)Summary: A series exploring the Batfamily growing closer together. My Comments: Absolutely amazing and heart wrenching. The first fic in thisseries is finished, which is a lot more about Dick and Damian’s relationship, but the second is still ongoing, which is more about Jason and Tim. It’s a wonderfulseries!
To Pass Through This Night by DawnsEternalLightWords: 4,147Summary: When Dick was captured by the Syndicate he died, for a short period of time, but he still died. It’s a fact he kept from his closest friends and family to protect them. When Damian and Tim find out he has to face not only them, but the emotions he’s buried from the event. My Comments: It’s a forever evil fic. Like, you don’t even know how much Ilove this, especially because it involves the whole family’s feelings, not justDick’s.
Even When You’re Down by DawnsEternalLightWords: 4,628Summary: Jason is expecting pizza at his door, not a very sick Dick Grayson. When he can’t figure out what’s wrong with his brother he turns to the only person he can, Bruce. My Comments: Ahhh I love sickfics so much, and this one did not disappoint!Jason and Bruce coming together to care for Dick was amazing to read! To be honest, @preciousthingsareprecious‘s fics are all amazing, and I’ve read so many of Dawn’s works. These are just my absolute favorites!
Stubborn by audreycritter Words: 20,359 (4/4)Summary: Dick is usually the one taking care of everyone else and he’s bad at asking for help.So bad, in fact, that he never even actually asks– but Jason shows up anyway. And then Dick returns the favor. And then they both do for Tim. And it’s just going to keep going from there. It’s probably Alfred’s fault. When your butler mom calls and says, “Go check on your brother,” you don’t argue. You just do it.My Comments: The first chapter absolutely killed me. It’s a sickfic, witheach chapter focusing on a different batkid. It’s so well written, and it’s oneof my all time favorites!
The Mechanics of a Hug by incogneat-oh Words: 4,154Summary: “So,” Tim ventures. “It's… what, a cuddle pollen?” Bruce just shrugs. “Something like that.” My Comments: It’s funny, it’s angsty, the dialogue is absolutelyamazing, and I would recommend this author’s fics (all of them, really) a thousand times over. This one is just my absolute favorite that I’ve read a bajillion times.
World’s Apart by Fernandidilly_yo Words: 37,169 (3/?)Summary: Dick’s world is falling apart. With all the heroes and Batman gone, the teen thinks this is the end, that is until Dick miraculously end up in an Alternet Universe where the world is whole and there’s a family waiting for him.My Comments: This is an AU that absolutely BREAKS MY HEART. There’s so much description and it’s such an amazing story. It has a lot of potential, and besides the occasional typos/spelling errors, it’s probably one of the best I’ve ever read. I’m looking forward to more!
Locked Away by AutumnHobbit Words: 3,021Summary: anonymous asked: would you consider writing dick being asked to empty jasons locker at school after jason dies?
“Uh, Wayne residence,” he said, cringing after the fact at how hoarse his voice sounded. He scrubbed a hand over his eyes in frustration.“Um, hello. Is, um….” the female voice trailed off hesitantly. “Is Mr. Wayne available at the moment?”“I’m afraid not,” Dick said, trying harder to channel his inner Alfred. “Can I take a message?”“…Yes,” the woman said. “It’s….well, it pertains to his son, Jason.”My Comments: THIS IS SO SAD. I still love it, because it shows a side of Dick that we don’t see often. We see Dick happy around his family, angry, frantic, but never this grieving boy mourning the loss of a brother, and it’s heartbreaking. There are a lot more quality fics by this author, as well.
there is a design, an alignment by irnanWords: 584Summary: Dick’s just had brain surgery. No wonder it hurts. My Comments: This is so sweet. But, of course, Bruce can only seem to show affection to his kids when they’re hurt or unconscious.
exactly how this grace thing works by irnanWords: 22,710Summary: Dick gets de-aged. You’d think this would be a routine thing. My Comments: Honestly, this is the fic that convinced me to stay in the fandom. It’s the fic that I will always aspire to write, quality wise. It’s an amazing piece about a de-aged Dick learning to accept the family that’s suddenly thrust onto him, and his family, in turn, learn things about him that they didn’t know before. The whole fic is amazing.
Who We Were by ZiZzyWords: 105,025 (33/?)Summary: When the Graysons fell their son went to his great-uncle to be trained as a Talon. Four years later he is rescued and taken to live at Wayne Manor. But, he is not the talkative boy he once was, in fact talking at all is a bit of a problem… A series of connected oneshots about how the Batfamily is formed when the older brother is not quite who he was meant to be.The timeline of each chapter is in the A/Ns.My Comments: It’s a little hard to get used to this fic, since most of them are read like one-shots in the same AU, but this fic destroyed me. Dick is so adorable, and he’s going through so much, and Bruce is so understanding. The last couple of chapters had me in tears.
Half Lost, Half Found by takadainmateWords: 23,632 (4/5)Summary: Driven underground, Batman fights to keep Nightwing alive. There is a fight. There’s always a fight. My Comments: I always recommend this story, but it’s amazing. There’s a lot of tension between Dick and Bruce, but they have to work together in order to survive. Sadly, this fic hasn’t been updated since 2013, but it’s only the last chapter that’s missing. It’s still a great story, even without it.
Family is a Crisis by LysicalWords: 4,172Summary: In their family there’s always some sort of crisis going on.“Probably a fashion crisis,” Jason muttered. “He probably dragged us all here so he could show off some chartreuse and fuchsia monstrosity.” “You aren’t making a new costume again, are you?” Damian added, nose wrinkling. “I thought we all agreed you were staying away from colors.”My Comments: This fic is hilarious.Seriously, as much as I wish Tim was in it, too, it is the perfect sequel to the one scene at the burger joint in Batman #16.
Grade School by KagSesshloveWords: 100,098 (13 fics)Summary:Imagine that Damian goes to a regular school full time. And has to do things that normal grade-schoolers have to do. This is his life now: pretending to be a normal 10 year old at school all for the sake of the public. But, honestly, the public would rather he not.My Comments: When I first found this fic, I think I started screaming at @stepichu to read it, too, I was so excited. I think I actually read it twice in one week? Please read this entire series. It’s hilarious and serious and just plain amazing. Sometimes the characterizations are a little exaggerated, but I still love it. It totally adds to the story! And the best part is that it was just completed!
the man with guns for eyes by 8swordWords: 22,056Summary: “Don’t blame him, little D. He gave me a choice.” “He always makes it a choice,” Damian mutters. “If you’re the one who makes the decision, it’s your fault if it’s the wrong one.” (Dick comes back from the dead.)My Comments: Hm. Okay, on the one hand I really like reading this fic, because the boys are all forced to talk to each other and try to work things out. On the other hand, sometimes this fic leaves me reeling. There’s a lot to get through in one sitting, and sometimes I have to break it up.
With Friends Like These by ChimaeraKittenWords: 4141Summary: How Artemis got to know both Dick Grayson and Robin before finding out they were the same person. My Comments: This is a YJ fic, but it’s really good. Like, I didn’t know I needed Artemis getting to know Dick Grayson so badly until I read this. There are also some other really good fics by @chimaerakitten, but this one is one that I fell in love with.
Crowded Enough by CaraLeeWords: 18,744 (15/?)Summary: An AU built off of the titular line from the pilot episodes of Young Justice. Dick Grayson comes home from the events at CADMUS to the enjoyment of his various siblings, friends, and sibling-like people. Now extended: One chapter per episode of the first season. Plus a few extras. My Comments: I love this so much. Each chapter is gold.
Save You by ArsenicInYourPuddingWords: 6538 (4/4)Summary: The three times Wally West made sure Dick Grayson lived to fight another day, and the one time he didn’t have to.My Comments: Warnings for suicidal thoughts/actions. The bromance between Dick and Wally in this is amazing, and this fic got me through some tough times. The whole thing always has my crying by the end, no matter how many times I read it.
That’s just on ao3, and it’s getting really late, so I needed to shorten this a bit. I will say that you’re welcome to look through my bookmarks on ao3 and my story favs on ff.net if you’re looking for more. There are a lot of amazing fics out there that I didn’t mention. I probably will come back to update this sooner or later.
edit because I don’t know how I forgot these:
Interval of Shadow by CaramelMacheteWords: 41,403 (15/?)Summary: Nightwing, Robin and Red Robin take on Clayface. Nightwing does not emerge unscathed. Is this the end of Nightwing’s career? How will the rest of family react? Will Dick recover, and what should he do if he can’t?My Comments: My goodness, this fic is honest to god amazing. It shows the struggle Dick goes through and how his family scrambles to be there for him. The interactions between everyone is so spot on, and if you haven’t read this, read it. And then come scream at me or @caramelmachete about it.
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by anon_nom_nomWords: 3,614Summary: Prompt from yj_anon_meme:Okay, so I always thought that the reason DCAU Dick turned into such a bitter little thing was because he only ever had Batman, and sometimes Batgirl, but he never had his Titans or his Wally or anything. So I would like so see something where Robin is starting to show early warning signs of this, maybe just frustration after a really bad night on the job in Gotham with Batman, and him actually having his team there to help him deal with it.In which Robin has a bad night, discusses poetry, and gets a massage. My Comments: This is a YJ fic that shows the struggle that Dick goes through as a partner of Batman, and I find it super realistic. It’s really fluffy with a hint of light angst, and all of the characters are spot on.
Fear by tristen84Words: 18,622 (6/6)Summary: While on a stake-out together, Robin and Kid Flash have a frightening run-in with Scarecrow. Dick-Wally friendship. My Comments: Another YJ fic. If you want Wally and Dick bromance, like, this is the fic. It’s a really good story, too, and it shows just how much both Dick and Wally care for each other. It’s a good read.
I’m probably still forgetting some, but these are all amazing, too, and please check them out!

You Don’t Really Like Beer, Do You? (Dean x Reader one-shot)
Prompt/quote: “Badges? We ain’t got no badges! We don’t need no badges! I don’t have to show you any stinking badges!” The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, 1948
Warnings: Pretty much fluff. And newbie writing.
A/N: This is me, trying to write fan fiction. I know, I need to work on writing Dean. I’m practicing, I promise! Also, excuse typos and grammatical errors, I only proof-read a couple of times. I wrote this for @death2thevirgin’s Cassie’s Classics Challenge. It went in a completely different direction than I originally intended, but I hope you like it!
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
“OW!” Dean yelled as you smacked him. He was quite a handsy drunk, and you normally didn’t mind, but you were supposed to be professional. Quite frankly, you thought you were more surprised that he was actually full-on drunk than anyone would be about some FBI agent groping his partner.
You and Dean had been hanging out at a bar. Him chugging whiskey, you pretending you liked beer because if he ever found out you thought it was the most disgusting thing on planet earth, you’d never hear the end of it. About half through what you told Dean was your second bottle, Sam had called and asked you two to check back in on a suspect you had spoken to earlier that day. Another body had been found, and the three of you still hadn’t figured out what it was, although you hadn't ruled out werewolves.
“Hello again, agents!” Said the petite receptionist, who’s name was something along the lines of Tricia, batting her false eyelashes at Dean. She tossed her brunette curls back from her face flirtatiously. You knew it was meant to be flirty because it obviously didn’t serve any practical purpose, seeing as she continued to address the two of you with hair covering half of her face. “How may I help you?”
You smiled tightly, quickly returning to your stoic expressing. “We just had a few more questions for you.” You explained politely.
“Could I see your badges, please?” She asked prettily, leaning onto her desk and pushing her cleavage into Dean’s direct line of sight, effectively distracting him. You didn’t quite understand why she needed to see your badges again, but-
“Badges? We ain’t got no badges! We don’t need no badges! I don’t have to show you any stinking badges!”
You gazed at Dean in complete and utter shock. Maybe you should have left him in the car.
“Could you give us a moment? Thanks.” You asked, briefly shoving your badge in front of her face before dragging Dean back outside, and forcing him to face you.
“What was that all about?” He groaned, glancing wistfully back at Tricia.
“I could ask you the same question, you idiot! Maybe you should just wait here. I will go talk to Mr. Adams, and I’ll be back out before you know it.” You folded your arms across your chest and tapped your foot in an attempt to convey the seriousness of the situation. He gave you a little pout, but nodded his head. You had to try really hard not to giggle at his adorable display of childishness. In all honesty, you liked how drunk Dean listened to you. He generally disregarded whatever you said in favor of his own rather ridiculous ideas. This was a nice change of pace.
A small smile played on your lips as you reentered the building. You asked Tricia a few questions, “accidentally” threw your lucky silver coin over the counter so that she would have to pick it up, and thus determined that she was not, in fact, a werewolf. It was all very tense
“Where’s Mr. Adams? Could I speak with him, please?” You asked, smiling as kindly as you could at her.
“I’m sorry, he has left for the night. You can probably catch him tomorrow, though!” She said in a sickly sweet voice, twirling a stiffly hair-sprayed curl around her finger. A little bit of panic rose inside of you. What if he was out there killing another innocent right now? Where was he doing it, if at all?
“Do you have any idea where he goes when he leaves?” You inquired calmly.
“Home, I should think.” She said, obviously as fed up with you as you were with her.
“Do you have an address?”
~
Five minutes later you rushed out the door.
“Dean, Mr. Adams has left the building. We need to find him before-” As soon as he saw you, Dean flung his arms around your neck and gave you the biggest, sloppiest kiss on the cheek you had ever experienced.
“I missed you, Y/N.” He slurred in your ear, resisting your attempts to push him away.
“I thought you were a strong, independent man who don’t need no woman?” You quoted, nonchalantly wiping his saliva off of your face.
“I am!” He stated confidently, pulling himself up to his full hight. “I just think you're cute.” He then slumped back over to kiss you on the cheek again. You were officially on Dean overload. You had an absolutely ridiculous school girl crush on the man, and his alcohol-induced flirtation was getting your hopes up to dangerous heights. Your face was beet red, and you made no noise as you grabbed his arm. You had dragged him half way to the car when he decided that there was something wrong, and that he should address it.
“Did I do something, sweetheart?” He asked grinning devilishly down at you like he knew what you were thinking.
“You’ve done a lot of things, Dean, you need to be more specific.” You spoke stiffly, continuing on your path to the car. That is, until Dean thought that perhaps this was a conversation best had stationary.
“Did you like it when I kissed you?” He asked, slipping his arms around your waist. Dammit, you were blushing. You were good with monsters, but feelings were not things you handled well.
“No! I mean, yes, but werewolves, and…” You trailed off, staring cross eyed at Dean’s lips as they inched closer to yours. He would never delay a hunt sober, you thought as you closed your eyes. Then you snapped out of it, pushing hard against his chest. “Your drunk!”
He chuckled whilst your shriek echoed around the empty street. “Not that drunk, darlin’.” He whispered, grabbing the back of your head and kissing you firmly. You kissed him back immediately, of course, but you kept your eyes wide and flapped your arms a bit, just to make sure he knew that there were urgent matters that needed to be attended to, before settling into the kiss.
Your arms snaked around his neck, his tightened around your waist so that you were pressed flush up against each other. He tasted mostly of alcohol, but a little bit like Dean, and it made want to kiss him when he hadn't had so much to drink. It was a bit sloppy, but you hadn’t expected anything else. You had wanted to do this for so long, but you knew he didn’t feel the same way about you, so you never made a move.
Eventually, you both pulled away. You grinned at him.
“You didn’t have two beers.” He stated matter-of-factly. He must have kissed a lot of drunk girls. You stopped grinning, and then dragged him the rest of the way to the car. Dean made for the driver’s seat.
“Oh no, Dean. You don’t get to drive in that state!” You exclaimed, pushing him away from the door and threw yourself in, slamming it quickly. He reluctantly slid into the passenger seat and scooted right up next to you so that he could whisper in your ear.
“You don’t really like beer, do you?” He asked, his scruff tickling the side of your face. You started the car the hide the noise of you clearing your throat.
“Well, no, but-” Dean threw his head back and cackled. You groaned, whacking your head on the steering wheel. This was going to be a long night.
