it is normal and good to want to be a hero but so so few of the guys talking about that actually mean it and are also hero material. as someone actually descended from the kind of man's men that people talk about, it's genuinely insulting to see these guys talk about it without any understanding—but who could have taught them? their dads were either absent or abusive. who was gonna point them towards arthur, or robin hood, or any other good example of a good man, and teach them the values at their cores which made them great? who was gonna teach them that pillaging and conquering for personal gain is dysfunctional? who was gonna teach them that women, beautiful and fearsome and sensitive as they are and can be, are not merely treasures to add to their hoard? who was gonna teach them honesty, strength of heart, nobility, and brotherhood?
