the thing about the ATLA episode The Blue Spirit that has been making me insane for years is that it really makes it so clear that being a firebender and thus expected to rely on firebending was holding zuko back, and that he was practically fucking unstoppable when outside of the expectations forced on him by the fire nation

#like he was so insanely effective when in a situation where he couldn't/shouldn't use his firebending that the reveal shocked me #cause zuko was up to that point shown as a mid-tier novice firebender #like he beat zhao but that was thanks in big part to iroh's coaching (and zhao also kinda just sucking worse)#also he was able to do so much more probably because he was OUT OF HIS ARMOR #there was SO MUCH aerobatics involved in being the blue spirit he couldn't do that shit in armor #atla #zuko #santagno
