I'm just saying... I find it extremely suspicious jonathan byers doesn't have 1 ...not 2... but 3 BISEXUAL men on his bedroom walls.

FOR THOSE UNAWARE...

Singer of r.e.m (Stipe) not technically bi but...

*he even stated any true r.e.m fan “wasn’t looking hard enough” if they hadn’t realized he was “queer” based on his music.

Then like the band refs that he told Will would "change his life" in s1 are cray. (when Jonathan is giving Will a pep talk about not liking things just because you’re supposed to).

television's guitarist/singer took on the stage name (Verlaine) after another bisexual poet (paul verlain) who had an affair with guess who - rimbaud. Rimbaud being the bisexual poet on Jonathan's literal wall. And a tie in to one of his fav bands ...ok.suspish.

-the smiths singer being somewhere on the bi/pan spectrum ... and how in the 80s you were supposed to keep listening to the smiths a secret because people thought it meant you were gay. Because the singer often would codedly reference “gay subculture”.

-There's bowie/ziggy stardust: bi con

-Not to mention the s4 movies hint at the possibility he’s bi- but most people discount the s4 movies as hinting anything naratively (sigh)

-joy division (well the name of the band may ref his possible childhood tr*uma and I’m keeping this post light). 

- in s2, billie holliday plays right before jonathan makes a move on nancy for the first time. Billie also had romantic relationships with both men and women ( and was very open about this fact) + she had a similarly tra*matic childhood. Billie on her own sexuality:" Label schmabel … I do what I want.”

*Even jonathan being a fan of vonnegut is suspicious since (although the Indianna author wasn’t gay) he often had queer men/themes in his novels.

*I also feel like the novels, poets, and bands reflect Jonathan’s politics,lack of religious beliefs, tra*ma, and even some Will has DID refs... but... that’s a post for another day.

Like I just had to mention this cause this is the equivalent of a ‘straight girl’ being really into musicians: Hayley kiyoko , Tegan and Sara, and , girl in red. Like... it’s totally possible. But don't be surprised my gay ass is  going to be squint at you a bit suspiciously XD . I don't know maybe jonathan isn't an lgbt ally but a member???  And that's why it's implied he's supportive of Will being gay and tells Will it's better to be a "freak" like "bowie"/himself ?   I guess to play devil's advocate...an alternative explanation would be both poets poems and dynamic/ziggy stardust's plot may (only) have deeper narrative foreshadowing for st's plot (like how I mentioned vonnegut may foreshadow hopper's s4 plot -in my did theory) . And yes i do think ziggy/the poets hint at quite a few things in st's plot- but that will be a separate future post .Then there's the fact queer men just dominated rock music in the 70s-80s. But... I still find it a bit suspect...tbh XD
