??? how in the world does anyone come out of jekyll and hyde with this
#“good doctor attempts to rid humanity of evil and ACCIDENTALLY makes an entirely separate person who's evil and kills people!!!”#animated features HATE morally questionably protagonists crushed under their own hubris#jekyll wasn't even the protagonist actually. where's that boring guy I forgot the name of that jekyll gave all his money too ??#I know that adaptions are not 1-1 with the source material and may make creative choices to better suit the medium#but this feels. kind of like it's drastically missing the point??? maybe even going against it almost??#jekyll made hyde because he wanted to act on bad impulses without social punishment occuring#the whole point of the book was that the more you indulge in bad actions the worse it gets. cautionary tale style.#jekyll stops transforming into hyde for MONTHS and the moment he goes back he beats an old man to death#because jekyll repressed his general 'bad desires' so much over the next few months the moment 'hyde' was out again-#-he did something super bad. like super super bad.#and hyde was freaked out because people saw him do it and now hyde was unable to blend into crowds and do morally questionable acts#not because he felt bad about killing a senior citizen.#hyde is not some secret evil demon jekyll summoned. hyde is just jekyll if he was less accommodating of other people.#there isn't even a reason to believe the potion caused this mindset. for all we know this is a purely psychological phenomenon.#either way hyde is ALL jekyll. he is not some monster. he is jekyll if jekyll was not afraid of his status being affected by his actions#at the end he didn't talk about using the potion to transform INTO hyde#he wanted to use it to transform into JEKYLL.#“that's because he kept turning into hyde without the-” yeah that's the point!!!!! that's. literally the point.#saying stuff#I like jekyll and hyde. they're pretty cool. I just don't like the way people act like what happened wasn't mostly jekyll's fault#like ??? it's not like hyde ruined jekyll's life. jekyll is in control of his actions as hyde. this is their faults equally.#actually maybe I'm kind of a hyde apologist. ignore that a little bit (I am aware he's literally just jekyll but. I feel bad for him.)#the frakenstein's monster issue of. yeah frakenstein's monster (hyde) sucked but frakenstein (jekyll) was worse right#tired tumblr posts#do I have a nerd tag.#I don't think so actually#I think thoughts#I think.#yeah that works#I apologize for the very skewed tags to post ratio except I don't really feel that bad about it. twitter is an awful place.

hey, no worries. thanks for getting back to me!
you're right, he was a dick to neville and he's wrong for it.
if kreacher hadn't been threatened, regulus wouldn't have cared. if his sister wasn't injured, dumbledore would have continued to work with grindelwald. when you realise that the position you're in hurts someone you care about, you make an attempt to leave. anyways, what-ifs aren't worth dwelling on. lily did die, snape defected and devoted himself to the cause she believed in.
that's true, and i'm sorry that that happened to you, but, rather than as a prank, this was done specifically with intent to humiliate, and it was done in front of a crowd. the nature of the spell has nothing to do with it. remus isn't an unbiased source, it's likely that he's trying to downplay what happened, and i'm not trying to trivialise assault, but this is a situation during which you aren't thinking straight beyond wanting to protect yourself. he lashed out as a defence mechanism.
we don't actually have any evidence that they tortured her, and it's just as likely that it was simply a spell that she didn't recognise and characterised as dark because of who was using it. the marauders used an illegal hex on bertram aubrey and that's also categorised as a prank, but not dark magic.
they weren't scared of his class. they talk during the period and they're comfortable enough to talk back and mess around with each other's potions.
they're weren't any death eaters, but there was draco "my father will hear about this" malfoy, crabbe, goyle and so many other children of death eaters who could very well communicate to their parents that he was being nice to voldemort's number one enemy. in addition, being an asshole to harry is wrong, but it's a trauma response to seeing someone who looks identical to a person who hurt him repeatedly get away with the same things that over and over again. it's understandable. not nice, but understandable.
a good portion of slytherins were the children of death eaters, even if he were to try to prevent them from hating muggleborns, and say that it was just a part of his cover, they would still have the same mindset that they were raised with, and likely just continue doing it where they couldn't be caught. and even if that wasn't the case, blood purity is the death eaters' entire agenda. at some point, it's likely that it would have grown to a point that voldemort considered opposition.
he made one singular comment about her teeth, and she had already planned to change them before. the only reason she hadn't is because her parents wanted her to get braces.
he didn't plan to just sit there and watch james die, and he never expected Lily love him. voldemort would have killed him on the spot if he asked him to spare harry.
she's absolutely allowed to be hurt and offended, but, again, we don't have any evidence. given what we're told about her, i feel like she wouldn't have been the sort to keep him around if he was constantly insulting her, himself and her friends with a slur.
anyways, all that aside, thank you for your response. his arc wasn't "i'm obsessed with your mom," he never was. after she cut ties, he left her alone, didn't speak to her, didn't harass her, he didn't to anything to her. he asked voldemort to spare her and dumbledore to save her life because she was once his best friend and one of the few people who actually cared about him. his redemption is about his growth as a person, and the way he grows from being selfish and trying to save and protect himself to someone who is willing to sacrifice his life for people he doesn't even like, and a world that never treated him kindly. that's his character arc. he matures and does better. lily was his driving motivation, but he wasn't obsessed with her. i'm sorry if you've had to deal with that but we try not to make excuses around here. we just try to understand, and believe me, we do hold him accountable. thanks for reading all that. have a good one :)
listen to me, severus fucking snape is not a good person. he, as an adult man,
bullied a child who was having difficulty in his class, so much so that he was the child's worst fear
decide to join the good side because the bad side had offended him, and literally no other reason
used a slur against his "best friend"
compared the torturing of a girl to pranks
hurt and emotionally abused multiple people
ridiculed a friendless, scared, bewildered boy (harry)
allowed the hatred of muggleborns in his house
he made hermione feel so awful about her appearance that she permanently changed it to halt the bullying
was ready for his crush's son and husband to die for his own gain
it is canonically stated that snape called EVERY person who was born to muggle parents a mudblood
