I love these combination names. Breath/Light is an interesting one, because the 'Mixolydian' implies a musical theme, and I thought Time was the musical Aspect. Maybe it's not that simple.

I'm also wondering if I should read into the prices here. Like, is the expensive Breath/Space combination the strongest? If so, does that mean Breath synergizes particularly well with Space?

I guess there's only so much you can glean from a single menu. For all I know, each shop has a random selection of Fraymotifs, with multiple combinations for each price tier.

I can't wait to see these in action - not least because the presence of combination moves implies the kids are going to start fighting as a team. That's a development which is well overdue.

The Quest Bed isn't exactly hidden, is it?

I was assuming the god tier mechanics were obscure, since no one's brought them up before. Maybe the Quest Bed has other uses.

I'm not sure what to make of all this talk about choices. The comic is really emphasizing it, but it really seems to fly in the face of what we know about Paradox Space, which is really all about lack of choice - or at least, lack of meaningful choice.

You can choose 'the type of hero you become', but you can't opt out of being a hero entirely. You can shape your universe however you want, but you never chose to burn your world and light the Forge.

And I really don't know what to make of this.

Something obviously happened between Vriska and Tavros - something we keep alluding to, which may or may not have involved her Quest Bed. She can't put herself to sleep, I guess - so did she want Tavros to knock her out? Drug her with Sopor Slime?

Maybe the incident happened after she fell asleep, and started ascending the God Tiers. Perhaps her sleeping body was vulnerable, and Tavros failed to protect it - or maybe he followed her inside the god tier dream, and something went horribly wrong.

wait this is driving me a lil bit crazy... we know Rose's MEOW code was written in a journal, presumably after the interview with Jaspers in which he told her his secret. so, presumably, Rose was under the delusion that when she was filling a journal with the word 'MEOW' she was actually transcribing some incredible secret Jaspers had revealed to her.

but Tavros, Aradia, Terezi and Vriska wrote their codes in Flarp books. which means that when they wrote them they were probably under the delusion they were filling in Flarp books. right. so were they filling in character sheets? like Vriska thinks her Flarp character is called Mindfang but when you look in her book does it actually just say the word 8R8K over and over again. was the entire Flarp campaign between these four trolls literally just a shared delusion

my elaboration on snowman is that she's the (former) black queen , and there's been some meta written on the skaian kings/queens as trans (specifically the black king bearing skaia as an emblem (the "dormant crucible of unlimited creative potential!!!", which i kind of extend to the queens because i think the kings and queens of skaia can and should be t4t. who is stopping them. not me).

i also think that while snowman being vriska's on-and-off patron was like. hussie definitely wasn't thinking about this at the time. but there's something incredibly compelling to me about snowman having been vriska's patron during the game, and then vriska mentoring june. (i will never get over the "thief, why don't you just control him" scene. other people will forget it. i will not). this list of complicated messed up trans women trying to mentor other complicated trans women, and mostly failing and trying still.

okay so like. i think it's important to note for one that mindfang is 100% the most cis character in homestuck, and that vriska not having come up under any trans mentors is a large part of what fucks her up so badly. also the king and queen are generated with every session and are always that same weird-looking gender dichotomy and i think anything that establishes that gender is an inherent immutable thing across existence cannot possibly be trans. sorry to 8r8k it to you like this but homestuck absolutely has thorough ideas about gender woven into it already

Author commentary: --> Anyway, more about this weird code. You can look at it as a subconscious expression of the kids who wrote it. Also, when you consider its relevance to Doc and Lord English, once you know how LE is actually summoned, it all starts seeming almost absurdly literal. But let's look at the code writers. Team Charge (Aradia and Tavros) wrote t1CK, t0ck. Aradia is a Time player, so it makes sense for her. It only squares with Tavros once you take his Pupa Pan lore into account. The previous page said they were "sounds said to accompany the ultimate demise of the tyrant less an arm and an eye." Captain Hook has been used as one of these moving-target symbolic figures. Does it apply to Bec Noir? Vriska? And now Mindfang is in the mix (though we know Vriska modeled herself after her, so there's some inherent redundancy here). But when you examine Vriska's demise later, it does seem to pin her down more concretely as the Hook figure mentioned here. Her death is presented along with the ticking of her magic clock, which was deliberating over her death as either Just, Heroic, or neither, when it's rudely interrupted with a crowbar wielded by yet ANOTHER tyrant less an arm and an eye, Spades Slick. Okay, that's some cool stuff, but back to the code. Vriska contributes 8r8k, which is pretty obviously suited to her. Both in terms of the lucky kind, but more notably in the context of those 8-balls she smashed all the time, which is a cursed gesture that evokes LE's summoning process. Terezi's H34DS makes sense in the context of her two-headed coin, and in particular the slashed head side, which could be seen as a "broken" head. Then there's the wildcard addition from Gamzee, which is just honk HONK. What is there to say about this? Dude just says honk a lot, case closed. But when you string them all together, and read it as more of a sentence than a random series of words, it tracks with LE's summoning very closely, which we see immediately following [S] Cascade. The clock in Doc's home is ticking, then stops. Doc, who's lying there as a lifeless puppet, begins growing horrible green appendages. His cue ball head cracks, and then breaks. A triumphant Lord English opens his horrible jaw and releases the Vast Honk. When it comes to his summoning, this isn't just a code that gives birth to his host, it is also a literal description of the process.

They warn that the demon roams the swamps and the ruins of the old research facility, that no8ody should set foot in those ruins else the demon will hunt them.

They say that some nights when the fog rolls in and the moons don’t show you can see a red glow in the distance and hear the distant alarms sounding, that anyone foolish enough to investigate is never seen again.”
