// sniffles, allergies, cuddles
****
"So, what's the verdict, should we head out or should we bag it in favor of expensive takeout and you letting me cuddle you for the next five hours or so?" Tony asks, looking at Steve hopefully. His preference is clear on his face, and Steve can't help but smile back, looking at him.
Steve had been dealing with his so-called spring allergies all week already, despite the fact that they're only halfway through February. And it's Valentine's Day. He wants to be able to go out and enjoy the evening with his boyfriend, but...
Well, Tony had gone all out on Valentine's Day already, sending a huge bouquet of roses to Steve's office this afternoon. It was a sweet, thoughtful thing to do, and something no one had done for Steve in ages. But, given how over-sensitive his nose already was, thanks to the tree pollen that was apparently in full bloom, well, he'd had to put them in another room entirely in order to be able to get anything done.
Now they're both at Steve's apartment, the bouquet sent home with a coworker, which Tony hadn't minded at all. If anything, he felt bad about not thinking ahead about how they might affect him.
Steve's nose twitches at the mere thought of the lovely, fragrant bouquet, though, and he scrubs a hand over his face before replying.
"Umb, we can go," Steve offers, though really, the idea of putting his coat back on and stuffing himself full on antihistamines to continue dealing with the rising pollen count hardly fills him with warm and fuzzy feelings.
Tony frowns at him. "Steve," he says. "You would deprive us both of a night in? I promise I won't surprise you with anymore flowers. Takeout only, I swear." He holds up a hand like he's ready to swear on a Bible, which makes Steve laugh.
"You didn't know," Steve reminds him. "I thought I was fine this morning."
"But you're decidedly not fine now, sniffles," Tony says.
At this, Steve feels his nose give an involuntary twitch around the edges, and he rolls his eyes, already knowing what's to come.
"Hdt! Huh’ITSHH!”
"Bless you," Tony says, his voice low and fond. "I really am sorry."
Steve sniffles a few times, grabbing a handful of tissues from the box Tony holds out to him. "Please don't be. It's way too early in the season for this to even be h-happening... HhiH-iihtsshH!"
"Bless," Tony says again, and Steve watches his face go all soft, the way it always does when he's sick or his allergies are bothering him. It's the face that reminds him that no matter what he decides, Tony really will be happy either way.
It settles something inside him.
"Thanks," Steve murmurs. "We can.. Snf! Stay here, if you don't mind? It's so cold out and I'm all..." He trails off and gestures to his face. "Sndiffly."
"You are that," Tony says, and flops down onto the couch, holding out an arm for Steve to join him. "Expensive takeout it is." He's already scrolling through his phone, pulling up the menu of their favorite sushi place and clicking around. He knows Steve's order by heart.
"Done," Tony says after a minute. "Might take a while since I'm sure we're not the only ones too scared of the cold to go outside, but..."
Steve joins him on the couch, leaning into the arm Tony holds out and snuggling into his side. This really is the perfect evening as far as he's concerned, whether it's Valentine's Day or any other Monday evening they manage to spend together.
"Thanks Tony," Steve sighs, toeing off his shoes, content to be staying in for the night, tucked in and warm against Tony, the box of tissues between them. It might not be anyone else's idea of a romantic Valentine's Day, but Steve wouldn't ask for anything else.
Tony kisses him, first the tip of his allergy-pink nose, then his lips, soft and sweet. "Anytime, Steven."
