Maxo's one of my favorite young rappers, even if my memory holds onto things like a vise, and I can't help but think about the time he got into it on Twitter with Jonwayne years ago for no good reason.
Jonwayne, to his Twitter followers (paraphase): "White artists in hip hop--we need to be careful with our behavior in this space and realize that we're guests, ultimately we not take the oxygen and attention away from black artists."
Maxo, replying, utterly refusing context: "I don't wanna hear from white rappers about nothing."
And even though JW tried to explain that he was addressing a disturbing (and still active trend) among white people in Hip Hop who act like racism and prejudice isn't a thing, and doesn't contribute to which artists receive media attention, Maxo's responses were increasingly more dismissive and hostile until Jon just disengaged. I'm hoping this was all a misunderstanding that was eventually hashed out, but it was a bummer to watch two artists whose work I enjoy riffing, because one of them was being...short-sighted (I'm being kind). From what I understand, there's a lot of snakey, underhanded white folks in LA's underground rap scene in particular (see: the allegations about Egon taking advantage of Madlib, MF DOOM, and other black artists), so I get the impulse but when you see a white person trying to call other white people in on their bad behavior, you oughta encourage it.
Whew. Anyway. All that being said, this is a really good song, butDevin Morrison really surprised me with this beat. He's incredibly talented, but I'm mostly used to his R&B work:

More Devin producing for rappers, I say.
