lrb literally an expression that haunts me.....he looks so smarmy and pleased with himself. and because of a kill that comes immediately after the lines "you people. why cant you just leave us alone. we have as much right to live as you do".

#the vamps in that ep /are/ awful! but imo there's a degree of sympathy with which theyre treated that foreshadows s2's complication #of whether all monsters are pure 'bad guys' and/or mindless in the havoc they wreak. which starts with the vampire(!) lenore.#so even though he's technically right john doesnt come off too well in the hostage exchange for the colt #and while he saved sam by killing that guy its not at all framed as an unambiguous moment of triumph #the way the camera lingers on his relatively slow death + his partner's reaction (they mate for life) + sam and dean's expressions.....#also why gordon is such a good john replacement. its a shame he got killed off so soon.#.txt
