Hello, how are u? Can I join the new ask game?
I want to know what my April will be like (what will happen in this month). I'm NM, 21 years old
Thanks in advance 😊
Hello @wtfiamdoing! Thank you for reaching out :)
Here is your month ahead reading for April 2024. I did a 9 cards spread that mixes prediction and advice so that you can get some real support from it.
Side note for anyone else reading this: free readings are currently closed so that I can go through the asks I received so far. I will go through them in the next 4 days since I'll be off from work and have more time.
April 2024 Month Ahead tarot reading
You're coming into this month with a renewed energy and desire to take new actions and make changes in your life. I'm definitely getting spring vibes with the rise of energy after a long winter where you had to leave some things behind. Not sure if you live in the Northern hemisphere or not but it can be applicable regardless. Now is finally the time to blossom, and you're feeling motivated to take the steps to better your life.
Your theme of the month is to embrace your own abundance. The steps and progress you're going to make are going to help you take care of yourself better and nurture your prosperity for the months to come. You will learn to feel fulfilled with what you have as an anchor point, a place of safety within yourself, but to thrive for more. You will learn to stand as a strong and independent person who takes responsibility for their own happiness.
Your goal to pursue this month is to clear out the confusion and lack of clarity that you still have. Don't let yourself go to the temptation of feeling powerless due to the obstacles you will face because you have very supportive energies and those obstacles are only here to shape your will and strength. Be careful about overthinking and going in circles in your head and try to recognize when you're doing that.
The main obstacle is your tendency to remain a bit lost in your head and passive in your stance toward things. So don't hesitate to make the changes you need to do and try not to daydream too much instead of doing what you need to. Taking practical steps towards your goal by breaking them down into achievable tasks can be of great help. The idea is to keep moving a little everyday even if it feels small.
A major accomplishment this month is you finally being able to let go of emotional and mental pain. I see you finally moving on toward better things, and being able to do a massive release of something that weighted you down heavily. Perhaps you experienced a loss or severe disappointment in the past few weeks or months, and throughout the month the pain will ease until you are free from it.
However, you need to avoid being impatient. Things will grow and shift in due time so best being gentle with yourself while the process unfolds. Again there is this idea of gradual work put into something that will bear fruits later on.
What you need to embrace is a nurturing and supporting stance toward yourself. The transition between winter of spring is full of hope and energy, but it can also be rough at times since winter might come back for a few days with a vengeance that makes you think it's never going to go away. But it's not true and this beautiful card is here to remind you that you have all the resources you need around you to blossom. Ground yourself in reality, and take care of yourself. It seems to be putting a focus on your physical health and perhaps home situation. So if you feel so inclined, you can improve the way you eat, take care of your body, or do a spring cleanup of your home, now would be a perfect time to do it.
As for the support available to you, you might feel left out and alienated, which might make you want to isolate yourself. I think it's an encouragement to find support around even when you feel like there is none. Yes you are strong enough to stand on your own and find strength from within, and independence is a big theme for you this month, but you don't live in a bubble and there are people around you who genuinely want to help and support you through the hard parts. So perhaps this is an invitation to think about who this is and open yourself to them and perhaps do another clean up of the relationships around you to weed out who is not supportive of your growth.
The advice you have is to be grateful of all the beautiful things happening around you without dwelling too much on what's going wrong. This month will be a time of enjoyment for yourself so savor life, stop to smell the flowers blooming, enjoy the warmth of the sun, listen to the birds singing. Really, focus on the simple joys of life it will give you a lot of strength. Embrace your independence and your newfound strength. It is a time to celebrate that you are finally free from the pains of winter and to welcome the beautiful months ahead of you. You have the power to make your life bloom like a sublime and fragrant garden, and that start with nurturing your own self.
That's it for this reading! I hope this was useful and I'll be really happy to hear your feedback if you want to share something even in private :)

Entangled (Spencer Reid x femReader)
Summary: You don’t know how it happened. One moment you were watching Criminal Minds, and the next moment you were literally in the show. Can Spencer be the key to helping you find your way back home?
Warnings: minor character death, mentions of su*cide, bad explanations of quantum mechanics, sexual situations, the usual criminal minds-type content
A/N: wow I’ve been on this site for ages, nearly as long as Criminal Minds was on air, lol, but this is my first fic posted here. I plan to make this one into a few parts if people like it. If this has any relation to other fics it’s not intended. Literally just an idea that popped in my brain. I’ll also eventually add it to my wattpad .@ kittentastic
Word Count: 3,119
Chapter 1. Chapter 2. Chapter 3. Chapter 4. Chapter 5. Chapter 6. Chapter 7. Chapter 8. Chapter 9. Chapter 10. Chapter 11.
It was an average, lonely, autumn night. Halloween was nearing and you didn't have anywhere to be. Long estranged from the people you once called family, and friends, you were starting a new life in L.A.
Yeah, you were one of those small-town girls with big-city dreams. You wanted to be an actress, a dream your father had once encouraged. When he suddenly died, you had nothing left but a new step-mother who discouraged your dreams and was more than happy to disown you when you reached 18 years of age; a classic Cinderella story.
It had taken a while, getting yourself through university and saving up enough money to move out to L.A. Now you were 27 and living your dreams...partly. You worked at a coffee shop in Hollywood; a great way to meet people that could potentially cast you in a big production, but that plan had yet to come to fruition. Every audition would have someone else in mind for the part.
Today, you had finished yet another round of auditions for everything from small commercial bits to tv shows. You poured yourself a glass of red wine after finishing your microwavable meal-for-one dinner. Wine would always be your go-to drink after your dissappointing days, it was great at helping you sleep. You clicked on the tv and sipped your drink from your criss-crossed sitting position and soon found a Criminal Minds marathon that was just starting. It almost seemed like fate as tomorrow you had an audition lined up for the very same show.
You smiled as the bright, happy, Penelope Garcia came into the shot, followed by the rest of the BAU. You absentmindedly bit your lip as Dr. Spencer Reid came into frame.
Like a large percentage of the show's viewership, you found the handsome genius slipping into one or two of your fantasies. You may have daydreamed about the Dr. being a real person and walking into your workplace to order coffee and whisk you off your feet. You may have also woken up from a few dreams involving the handcuffs he was currently restraining an unsub with.
You wondered if you would get the part. Would it be odd having to pretend this dream-man was real? You'd hope you could contain your blushing around Matthew at least.
You finished your drink and stretched out on the couch, already feeling your eyes growing heavy. You found your mind wandering as you grew more and more tired, hardly paying attention to the episode. The last thought you had before you drifted off was, "what if Spencer Reid was a real person?"
Bright lights of assorted colors and shapes danced behind your tired eyes. You felt a tugging sensation that seemed to pull you from your core. It felt warm and safe, like it wanted to protect you. A hum grew louder and louder in your ear canal, followed by a crackling wind. It was like an electric storm. The smell of coffee and a woodsy vanilla filled whatever place you were in. It was odd, you knew this, but you weren't scared. Something told you this was right. Your body began to rise higher and higher until a loud snap echoed around you, shattering your surroundings.
"Whoa, sleeping on the job now Y/N? Did someone tire you out last night?" A woman's voice broke through the fog as your mind caught up with you.
Wait, am I still dreaming? That voice...it sounds like...
"Pretty Boy, you wanna check her for a pulse?"
And that is definitely...
"I-I don't think that's necessary."
You slowly lifted your head and opened your eyes wide. Your blurred vision slowly grew used to the bright indoor lighting. Your eyes widened as you saw none other than JJ, Morgan, and Reid. Yes, the fictional characters were standing in front of you.
How was this even possible? You had to be dreaming, or maybe you were forgetting and you were at a very strange audition. Yes, that had to be it, logically.
"Good morning Sleeping Beauty. Rough night? I didn't think Reid's Doctor Who nights were that wild, I might have to tag along and chaperone you two next time." Morgan greeted with a teasing smirk.
"How late did you two go for last night?" JJ asked, leaning against the desk that you had been sleeping on, and sipping her coffee.
She directed the question to you, but you didn't remember this dialogue in the audition script. When you didn't answer, Spencer spoke up.
"She texted me when she got home safe at 9:43pm. I made sure she left early as the rain was starting up. Now, of course, she could have stayed up longer, but we continued to exchange texts until she texted me goodnight at 10:15pm."
"Goodnight texts? Remind me and JJ here why you two aren't dating again?" Morgan crossed his arms looking between you and Spencer.
You blinked, taking a chance to finally look around. There were no cameras in sight. Above you was a tiled ceiling with office lighting. No directors or normal-looking crew members were around.
"Matthew?" You asked, directing your question to a stuttering, red-faced Reid.
Everyone turned their attention back to you. Reid, or Matthew, raised his eyebrow at you. And turned to look if anyone was standing behind him that you could be talking to.
"Who is Matthew, Y/N?" He asks, cautiously.
Oh my god. I must be dreaming.
You stood up and slowly reached out to Reid, who was standing closest to you. You gently poked his cheek. He looked almost afraid at your actions.
"Spencer?" You lower your shaky hand. He felt real, he was standing in front of you. You could smell his morning coffee.
"Yeah?"
"Pinch me."
"What? Why?"
"So I know that I'm not dreaming." You could feel his eyes prodding you, profiling.
"Maybe we should get you to a doctor-"
You grabbed his wrist and placed his hand on your upper arm.
"Pinch me. Hard."
Spencer winced as he did what you asked of him. He obviously did not want to hurt you. You felt your nerves fire off in pulses of pain where he pinched. You sharply inhaled and he immediately dropped his hand.
"Oh my god," you stammered, "ohmygodohmygodohmygod."
This is real. Spencer Reid is real.
You slid back down in your chair and looked at an open mouthed JJ and Morgan, staring at you in shock.
"What kind of kinky shit are you two into?" Morgan narrowed his eyes at Reid.
"This is no time for teasing Derek. I think she's suffering from a concussion." JJ reached out, concerned, feeling your forehead for a fever.
"She doesn't have any visible signs of bruising. Y/N do you remember hitting your head on anything, or experiencing whiplash today?" Reid, growing serious turned your chair towards him, raking his fingers through your hair to check your scalp for any tender spots.
For a moment you had to stop yourself from sighing, it just felt nice, and it was Spencer.
"No I'm-I'm fine, my head feels fine." You answered.
"What's the last thing you remember doing?"
You bit your lip, should you answer him truthfully? How would you even explain something so illogical.
"I-I remember. I fell asleep on the couch watching tv." In a different reality.
"Do you think it's possible you rolled off of the couch in your sleep?"
You frowned to yourself.
"It's possible."
It's never happened before, but you suppose it would explain things. This was definitely a hallucination. Maybe it was one of those Spencer-centric dreams.
"Spence, I think you should take Y/N to the hospital. I'll cover for you with Hotch." JJ suggested.
Spencer nodded in agreement while Morgan looked worriedly at you. JJ got up from the desk to seek out Hotch in his office.
"Do you have your keys?" Spencer asked, still looking you over.
"Um-" you checked your pockets and sure enough found a ring of keys in your pants pocket. You dropped them into Spencer's outstretched hand.
"Can you walk?" Spencer's voice went softer.
You shivered as you did whenever you heard that tone on the show. He could make a living doing ASMR with that voice.
You stood with Spencer's unneeded, but much appreciated, help. He seemed to have no problem holding your hands to help you, something you considered to be out of character for the germaphobic Dr. Reid. Then again, the show did not go this long without it's occasional inconsistencies. Was your subconscious hallucination really thinking these things out?
You followed him to the elevator with ease, taking in your surroundings as you went. As the elevator doors closed, Spencer frowned at you once again.
"Your pupils have been dilated since you woke up." He spoke.
Yeah probably because the attractive genius I've been dreaming of for years is vividly realistic and talking to me.
"Is that a sign of head trauma?"
"Actually yes, you could be experiencing a sensitivity to light as a result of your head trauma. If that's the case, then you're in luck because it's been raining all day."
You followed Spencer out to your car, or at least you thought it was your car. You didn't exactly own one before dropping into this hallucination world. You were saving up for one, but didn't really need it as you lived close to your job and took public transit when you needed to go further distances. This car was nice, you supposed the dream BAU job payed well.
Spencer drove you to the hospital and waited in the waiting room as you received a full check up and MRI. You hoped he wasn't too bored waiting. As the doctor returned with your results you asked if Spencer could come in to hear the diagnosis. The doctor asked if he was family and you lied saying he was your fiancé. The doctor really didn't seem to care and Spencer was allowed in. He looked confident, prepared to discuss anything scientific that you may not understand yourself.
"Well Y/N, after reviewing your MRI scans and testing results, I can confidently assure you that you are perfectly healthy. We can order some blood tests for you if you wish, but from the concussion symptoms you thought you had, and from the results I have in front of me, I don't believe they are necessary." The doctor said with a smile, probably just happy to be delivering some good news.
"That can't be right." You shook your head and frowned.
"Y/N was clearly exhibiting fatigue, light sensitivity, memory loss, and confusion at work. If she's not concussed, what is wrong with her?" Spencer asked.
"I'd say your fiancé is simply experiencing the effects of exhaustion and a lack of sleep. My advice? Take her home and let her rest."
Spencer firmly shut his mouth as the doctor said "fiancé."
The doctor turned to you. "If you'd like, I can perscribe you a sleeping sedative."
You shook your head "no." You couldn't believe it; you'd slept at a reasonable hour, and you didn't feel fatigued.
Everything was starting to feel so real. The warmth of Spencer sitting so close to you felt real. The rain that fell on your skin felt real. The medicinal scent of the hospital made your feel sick. You could only think of one final way to try to wake up.
"Spencer can you stop somewhere for me?" You asked as he drove you home.
"Sure."
"Is there a lake near by?"
"Yeah...you don't remember? You've jogged on the trails near it with JJ and Morgan."
"Can you take me there? There's something I need to do."
You were beginning to grow used to the worried look on his face. The way his eyes softened reminded you of a puppy.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to you. If this was a dream concocted by your brain, wouldn't Spencer be a bit more romantic? In your dreams he could range from a hardcore, post-prison, genius, bad boy to a nerdy romantic, but he was always, obviously, interested in you right away. This Spencer seemed to be your friend, just your friend. By now he would've usually confessed his undying love and maybe taken you in the back seat of your car. Yeah, you weren't the most creative person. What kind of dream was this?
You felt a blush coming on as Spencer side-eyed you. Your brain would never torture you with a long-con, would it?
Spencer took you to the lake, walking beside you without a word, most likely thinking you were going crazy and in need of sleep. You walked to the edge of the trail and looked down at the lake. It was a ways down, the point you were standing was more like a cliff. You determined that the water must have been about a 6 second drop down for someone your size
"Y/N, why did you want me to take you out here?" Spencer asked as he eyed the waters below.
You stayed silent as you took a few steps back. You took a deep breath, and before you could second-guess yourself, you ran to the edge of the cliff and jumped.
"Y/N!" Was the last, panicked thing you heard before the body of water came rushing towards you.
Your body submerged in the icy cold water and sunk deep down from the speed at which you fell. All you could hear was the echoing pressure of the water against your eardrums. This was your last resort. You knew if anything could wake you up, it would be this, your biggest fear.
Your father had drowned, he worked on a fisherman's boat and a storm had overturned the ship far out in the ocean. All that had been recovered was assorted pieces of the ship's wreckage. You'd never even had the chance to learn how to swim as the fear had already settled in before your step-mother could arrange lessons.
If you could drown in this confusing dream-world, maybe you would wake up in time for your Criminal Minds audition.
Your lungs protested as you let yourself sink. You closed your eyes and let your muscles relax. Your head screamed at you, telling you that you absolutely should not be doing this. Fear prickled at your skin. Why did this feel like you were actually dying?
A heartbeat later, you heard the water's surface explode above you, but you didn't have the strength to look up. Your brain processed something wrapping around you and tugging you up, but you could not open your eyes to see what it was. You held on to your last bit of consciousness as you breeched the surface of the water and felt the chilly air assault your skin.
Arms pulled you somewhere. Your body was dragged up something solid, the backs of your legs scraped against rocks. It must have been land. Hands applied pressure, pushing like a heartbeat against your center, you could hardly feel it. A hand held your mouth open while another pinched your nose closed. Lips pushed, rushed, against your own as air was forced back into you. The hand left your mouth and returned to pumping.
"Come on. Come back to me Y/N. Please." Pleading followed by more air.
The strange entity repeated the process once more before you felt everything come up, forcing you back to reality.
You coughed and choked up water and bile; the rain washed it all away. Your lungs were aching and your skin was ice cold. The only warmth was what lingered from the person's lips. A hand pat and rubbed your back, helping you cough up everything. When it was all over your whole body was shivering. Your muscles gave out and a pair of arms wrapped around you, holding you up.
"Y/N."
You weakly turned your head.
Spencer. He's still here. He's really here.
He was soaked, hair ringlets stuck to his face, and his eyes were rimmed red. He looked like an angel, hand carved by Michelangelo himself.
Your brain was trying to catch up with his words.
"Y/N, I need to get you back to the car before we both go into hypothermia. Can you walk?" He asked through chattering teeth.
Your throat was killing you, so you opted for just shaking your head "no" in response.
"I'll have to carry you then, okay?"
You nodded, doubtful he could, especially in his weakened state.
He stood, grabbing his bearings before scooping you up. You weakly held his neck and lay your head on his shoulder. Your pain was numbed, you knew, from the biting cold.
Spencer managed to carry you all the way back to the car, placing you gently in the backseat and turning the heat all the way up. He climbed in the backseat with you and began to remove his jacket and tie.
"We have to remove our clothes, they're soaking wet and we have to warm up. Do you need me to help you undress?" There was no hint of teasing or slyness in Spencer's voice. He was completely serious and you knew he was right.
"I-I can't. Everything is numb." You managed to croak out, wincing at the pain it brought your throat.
"Alright, um- I'll only remove your shirt and pants."
You nodded, weakly.
Spencer removed his own shirt before carefully lifting yours over your head. He made sure to keep his eyes on your face as much as possible and not linger his gaze anywhere else. Next he removed your shoes, socks, and peeled your pants down your legs. You managed to arch your back slightly to help him. Lastly, he removed his own pants and threw all the clothes in a pile on the floor of you car.
"I'm going to hold you now, if that's alright. We need each other's body heat." Spencer looked less confident now. You managed to nod a "yes."
If you weren't so close to death, you knew your brain would be shorting out at the thought of being held by a half-naked, and very real, Spencer Reid.
He helped you lay down across the seats and settled in next to you. He wrapped his arms around you and rubbed his hands along your shoulders and back in an effort to warm you and massage your tensed muscles.
A few minutes of this went by before you could finally move. You wrapped your arms around Spencer, holding him close as his body warmed your own, and you cried against his chest.
One thought repeated over and over again in your head.
This is real.
You worked for the BAU and Spencer Reid had just saved your life.

Energy Update: Sun in Gemini square Mars in Pisces, May-June 2020
Hey folks - I wanted to write a quick energy update because we are entering a loooooooong Sun square Mars phase that is going to last from now through the first half of June.
Let’s first talk about Sun square Mars - this is a very restless transit. How everything “is” (the general energy of our planet) is at odds with the energy off “getting things done” (signified by Mars). When this aspect is present, you can expect to see a lot of conflicts over action - particularly what is “right” action. You’re also likely to see a higher incidence of crime and violence anytime that Mars is “poorly” aspected in the skies.
Now let’s talk about Gemini and Pisces. They are two of the four mutable signs - Gemini is mutable air (thoughts all over the place) and Pisces is mutable water (emotions all over the place). It is notable that these are the two dual signs in the horoscope - they are also (or because because of the duality? a question for another day...) the two signs most prone to...let’s just say “misinformation”.
Let’s examine this for a second. We’ll start with Gemini - the energy of Gemini is inquisitive and constantly curious - it is always seeking out new and interesting ways to look at things. But because of its mutable nature (and its duality), it is often of “two minds” about something - ie, unable to make a decision to stick to an idea to follow through to fruition. Gemini can be so intent of seeing all sides of a situation that it can forget that sometimes there is an actual definable “truth”. Some lower Geminis do this intentionally and become grifters and professional liars - others are just so obsessed with the idea that they forget the concrete.
Pisces is a different type of misinformation. Pisceans, being ruled by the planet of Neptune, has a strong inclination towards fantasy - daydreaming, playing, and other forms of make believe. This is all well and good, but without grounding, the Pisces energy can get so lost in this fantasy-land that they forget that there is a concrete reality.
Here is how I see this mutable square play out:
Pisces sidles up to Gemini. They’ve already imagined that Gemini is their Perfect Whatever. Pisces does not want this fantasy to end.
Pisces: Come on baby, Lie to me...
Gemini: (never more excited by a single prospect in their entire lives) OKAY!!!
It...doesn’t end well. Gemini can’t stick to a script. I said that some Gemini lean towards grifting but I didn’t say that Gemini were good liars...they are too inconsistent for that. Sooner or later they’re on to another way of looking at things and they’ve forgotten already what they said before.
Pisces doesn’t want the script to change.
You might see now where I’m going with this...
This is a disaster on an interpersonal level, now replace people with the Sun and Mars. Mars wants to DO SOMETHING - its all yang energy - and its not well placed in the sign of Pisces to start with. Mars in Pisces whines at the Sun: lie to me...
The Sun says okay. The Sun lies. And then, being in Gemini, completely forgets the lie and moves on to a brand new “lie” (remember, they might call it truth) two days later.
Mars becomes unhappy - violence ensues.
Like all aspects, Squares start to form and build to a completion (when the two planets are “exact” of each other) and then it slowly wanes away. We are in the waxing phase of this Sun-Mars square (the Sun Mars square is exact on June 6) and yet one does not have to look closely at the news this week to see that it is already starting to play out in the United States. COVID-19 was the powder keg and institutional racism was the spark...
So what does that mean for our personal lives? Over the next couple of weeks, you might want to keep an eye out for misinformation - both the lies we tell ourselves (Pisces) and the ways in which we’ve perhaps gotten so mired in our thoughts that we haven’t seen clearly (Gemini). This is against a backdrop of Venus retrograded in Gemini so we might get very emotional about our thoughts...
Lies may come to light. But lies are just as likely to wrap us up in knots if we are not consciously seeing them clearly and rationally. Beware of violent impulse or need to act from a place of emotion. Watch out for being so “in your emotions” that it obscures your view - is it the forest that you are seeing or is it a tree? Give yourself extra time to decompress from situations which light a fire under you - look for the right action rather than the quick action. And mostly importantly, be aware of the information you are consuming. Check your sources. Don’t believe everything that you read. There are always a lot of Grifters out there (have I mentioned that the giant Orangutan in Chief is a Gemini Sun?) - make sure you know who and what you are sharing/supporting.
Sidenote: There’s a lot of “right action” going on right now - I don’t mean to imply by any means that isn’t happening. But a good application of this if you are going to involve yourself in the protests is to make sure that the protest that you are going to intend is actually being supported by the right organizations and is not a catch-net for police or others Right-Wing entities out there to try and arrest people.
Be safe out there, folks. The astro weather is getting rough.

A conversation with Madison Leigh Mumma [22/NB/Cincinnati]
Madge Maril: Hello! How are you today?
Madison Leigh Mumma: Hi! I'm great, how are you?
MM: Doing OK! For those that don't know you (and your work), can you tell us about yourself?
MLM: Sure! I live in Cincy, just graduated with a BFA, and for the most part consider myself an artist. I recently realized that I actually have no desire to go back to school so now I'm just working in coffee and saving up money to move. Oh, also, my pronouns are they/them! And I'm a Pisces!
MM: Oo, were you planning on going back to school before? And move where?
MLM: Yeah, I was dead set on going into critical theory and getting a PhD, but it took a break from academia for me to realize that it exhausts me way too much to be healthy. I'm thinking east coast, maybe Providence or Hadley??
MM: Well I don't know what critical theory is and I don't know where Hadley is but I have heard of Providence!
MLM: It's very broad! I think I was mostly attracted to the idea of arguing and criticizing for a living.
MM: Pisces!!!
MLM: EXACTLY.
MM: I love it.
MLM: With an Aries fuckin moon, lmao. Constant combat.
MM: WOW. Rising?
MLM: Also Pisces!! Pisces Sun, Rising, Mercury, and Venus.
MM: Omg, that's so intense — what's it like for you?
MLM: Like you said — VERY intense. I'm either 0% or 100% and that can be... a lot. But I think it's exciting to feel everything as much as possible, too!
MM: Said like a true blue pisces. OK so seamless transition: What do you wear on the first date? And follow up: Do you think it's reflective of your sign?
MLM: I usually wear a lot of black and let my accessories do the talking — so on a first date I'd probably wear a trusty black velvet shirt, high-waisted skinny jeans with a cool belt, and Docs. I'm very superstitious and a heavy believer in luck so I'd be wearing aquamarine and maybe some red jasper, dagger earrings, and a pin or two. I think that makes sense as a Pisces — I have a solid base but otherwise can be pretty fluid.
MM: What do aquamarine and red jasper have to do with luck?
MLM: Aquamarine symbolizes courage, protection, and is meant to enhance communication (and it's my birthstone!). Red Jasper is the stone of ~empowerment~, I actually started wearing it because a friend told me it reminded them of my "fighting spirit.”
MM: That's so interesting. And I've seen your dagger earrings on IG before I think! Where did you get them, and what do they mean to you?
MLM: My friend gave them to me as a gift! I like that they're elegant but still a little spicy. They feel like they go with the jasper in that respect — like there’s beauty in self-protection and putting yourself first.
MM: Completely agree. And it goes with the black outfit, too. Why a black shirt?
MLM: Black seems very secure and calm to me, plus it's always flattering and the velvet elevates just a liiiitle above a T-shirt.
MM: There's a lot of emotion in your outfit. What are you typically feeling on a date, if you can make it generic?
MLM: I have to be fairly comfortable talking to somebody before I go on a date with them, and I'm very selective about who I spend my time with. So at that point I'm usually really excited to see if there’s any **spark**.
MM: That's so opposite from me lol. When I'm single, I just like to go out and ~experience.
MLM: Ahh sometimes I really wish I could do that! I mean, I COULD but I think it goes back to the Pisces/emotions thing. I exhaust myself so fast!
MM: How so, if you don't mind me asking?
MLM: Well, I tend to daydream a bit so I build up my ideas of strangers around their potential instead of what I know to be reality, and that can spiral real fast. I actually deleted Tinder this summer and made a sort of romantic vision board to break that habit.
MM: Tell me more about this mood board.
MLM: It's basically an incomplete list of things that are valuable to me in a partner, and things that I can't/won't compromise on. A couple of examples are like, being considerate and independent. Also, you can't be a cop lover. In the past I've just been attracted to people that make me beg for their affection because it feels like I'm winning something, but that high isn't sustainable or worth it! Having a physical list keeps me accountable.
MM: My mom actually told me to do the same thing when I was looking for a partner! So you have her sage wisdom behind you. I imagine it helps you reality check during the infatuation stage? Like oh, they're cute but they do XYZ and I promised myself that's a no-go.
MLM: Aw yay!! YES definitely, that actually just happened this past week. I had a crush on someone I don't really know and realized I actually just like the attention.
MM: God, preach. And also like, that's a deep thought, and kind of a hard one to unpack. How did it feel to realize that?
MLM: Honestly, really good and kind of relieving! It took a lot of conscious effort to get to this point and it was like "A-HA! I am not a slave to my impulses! Incredible!"
MM: I'm envious that you were able to realize that all right out of college. I feel like post graduation was my most murky, in-my-own-head time, especially romantically.
MLM: It was definitely rough. I went sober this January and I don't think I would have been able to make this much personal progress without that. Once I made that change it kind of had to be all or nothing.
MM: Congratulations on your sobriety!!
MLM: Thank you!! ❤
MM: I've done periods of sobriety, but had long-term partners for all of them iirc. What's being on the dating scene like when you're not drinking? I really can't imagine it.
MLM: It definitely slims down the pool, lol. I didn't realize how much of my social life involved drinking before, and I'm not currently in a place in my sobriety where I could be involved with somebody who drinks. That plus the fact that I deeply enjoy alone time has meant I go out way less. But I'm a lot kinder and intentional in the interactions I have now and generally enjoy myself more so I think it all balanced out!
MM: You know, I don't think I've ever heard someone say they really enjoy alone time. I think most people tolerate it at best. With so much changing and blossoming internally, do you think how you present yourself to the world through your personal style has shifted, too?
MLM: I relish it! I think my style has become slightly less chaotic, maybe a bit more monochrome. This sounds super corny, but now that I've gained some self-confidence and am more stable I don't use my clothes to speak for me, hahaha.
MM: It's not corny at all!! I've been ruminating on that lately, too. I used to look in my closet and think of it as costume pieces.
MLM: Yesss!
MM: Also I'm now realizing it's been like almost two hours somehow??
MLM: Time is not real!
MM: I'll wrap this up so you can get back to your evening! Do you have any social media/online places you want to shout out for people to follow?
MLM: Ooh yeah! I run @groundscoresofficial on Insta, and post my art at @chaoskewpie! You can find my personal through either of those but I mostly post cats and my roommates, ha. Thanks so much for having me in your online space :^))
MM: Thank you for coming to hang out at the digital pad!!

Stamsund Conversation / Critics in Conversation #1: Jan Fedinger- Land(e)scape
The following is a rough overview of the conversation as it took place on the day.
Anette (A) and Diana (D) introduced the Critics in Conversation project, speaking about how criticism is more than just putting value on a piece of work. The project wants to open up criticism, to learn how to host criticism, and think about its processes in and with public.
The conversation started with asking Jan about how he sees his work- is it a visual designer working with light as a material?
Jan talked about it being dependent on different fields or contexts. Somebody can be a dance artist or a theatre artist, but it can be difficult sustaining both. The designer follows the idea initiated by the artist, so there is a difference there. He is not interested in designing the light, but sees himself more as a performer- a performer working through light.
Jan spoke about his interest in light as a felt presence, and his work trying to show that presence. He prefers not working for somebody, but with somebody- so in his collaborations, he often only starts talking about light toward the end of the rehearsal period.
Light defines how we see something, Jan says, speaking about how he found it unsatisfying, for light to always be perceived as invisible in a theatre production. In his work, he’s both performing and creating something, and draws on both theatre and visual art.
Anette brought scenography into the conversation, because it gives more space for different elements to be equal part of a performance, as opposed to the bottom of the hierarchy. The conversation shifted towards the paradigm of visual arts and theatre, and Anette spoke about duration and space as particular to theatre.
Returning to the work, Land (e)scape, Jan said it’s a visual work, as is the title. It can be many things. Landescape LandEscape. Landscape. It is playing with different notions of a similar thing. Its subtitle- “if you keep staring at the sun another world will emerge”, it’s telling of the piece in that way.
He speaks of it as a fixed performance of light. He uses the term performance to distinguish it from an art installation. His urge is to create something that does the same to him as a dance performance (not an installation).
The reasons “to make” in dance is different than the reasons “to make” in theatre. It is about showing something, at least for me, to create a space where I am stimulated to think. When he’s watching dance, he’s experiencing a state where he is taking in visual impulses.
Diana asks- it’s something inward, something personal, to which Jan says, yes, even therapeutic.
Anette talks about the difference between experiencing an installation and a performance, which invites a kind of adjustment to the time frame.
The conversation shifts towards visual art as a frame for analysing a work, and moving on. Thorbjorn mentions that entering the piece, with its fixed duration, felt like a milk birth situation, which took time to navigate spatially.
Jan spoke about the performance as a contract- it captures time in a place where light and time are not related, when the midnight sun comes into the landscape.
Diana spoke about the works of two artists, Anthony Gormley (Blind Light, Hayward, 2007) and Miroslaw Balka (How It Is, Tate 2009)- one a sweaty glass box filled filled with steam, the other a black void to walk into. The contrast of light and darkness, and how they shift the body in space.
Jan says that in this way, the project starts in Stamsund, with the local experience of light and time. Light is not a reference to time at this time of the year in Lofoten. It is gone. He references a piece of video work by Guido van der Werve called ‘the day I did not turn with the world’, in which the artist spent twenty four hours in the North Pole, allowing his stillness, facing the sun, to involve a movement around the axis of the world.
Jan talks about multiple realities at play in these moments of light, where time is not just time. The initial thought of the piece was to experience this detachment from time. The role of the smoke is to make the space disappear. How do you make time and space disappear, double the perception field? The smoke is instrumental in this, as it gives new layers to the experience. The piece is non narrative- it starts with darkness and moves towards light.
Diana and Anette speak about the need for the duration, the slowness and exposure of the space. Jan says, the moment that you understand what something is, you get rewarded by your body. So here the smokes slowly disappears, so you start seeing more. It is like offering a reward for experiencing and seeing. The darkness also needs light and luminosity. The main body of the piece is the transition between the light state and the dark state. Thinking of associations, we think of bad light being dark, god light being light. Darkness being perceived as bad, but creating good darkness, different kinds of darkness. Back in the days the darkness used to be a place for more things not necessarily associated with bad things.
Diana asks about our political affiliations with light- energy consumption, climate change, the arrival of electricity as signals of different concepts and ideas about light. Jan speaks about the attitude to light bulbs being an example- the difference between energy input and consumption, the way in which we light our rooms, the levels and quality of light affect our associations with it. So of course, it is a political battleground.
Jan also mentions the emergence of festivals of light, and the awareness of how light can perform. He moves to speak of the specificity of the piece, how it really is of this place, but possible to tour, and the conversation also moves to the production of sound, which is also important to the piece. The music is recorded live, analogue electronic music that is filtered noise made to create an harmonic experience. It is about modulation. Taking a sound and modulate, very slowly changing. Hard to notice. I call it” visual noise modulation”. The performance is an interplay between the two elements, light and sound.
Thorbjorn speaks about falling into a meditative mode, not calm but in a different kind of meditative state. When you meditate you start thinking about things that has happened two years ago or longer- I came into a dialogue with myself. I think that had to do with the two different rhythms of the light and the sound.
Anniken asked, when you think about this, have you any thoughts about the affects of/on the audience?
Jan calls it a daydream machine, like meditation. In daydreaming we are free beings with freedom of interplay between consciousness’s. How can he create the best conditions for this? He thinks about this deeply, but it is also very simple- “a tent with lights around”.
The conversation moves to discussion the meditative qualities of the piece, the active state of mind it requires, as opposed to relaxation, and the philosopher Bachelard is mentioned as having said “being is originally wellbeing” – a dimension that appears in daydreaming. A reservoir for daydreaming that is seldom triggered. Jan speaks of the difficulty of anticipating people’s experiences, which seem so different. You never quite know, even tough you have an intention and want to open up a space.
Irene brought into question the experience of the floor not being straight which changed the piece a lot, with the floor not being straight. Jan speaks of the environment. The moment stuff isn’t what we expect, we open up. It is a discussion between ourselves and the environment, and ourselves in the environment. And creating and alternative reality, where we can experience different effects.
The conversation ended with discussing the freedom of choice within the work, but also the painting that introduces the piece and marks the moment of transition into it.
