just got insanely mad at a white tiktoker for claiming that filipino gold filigree belts are a completely lost art due to colonization and we don't know how they were made and no one makes them anymore and it's so so sad. it's loop-in-loop chains. it's complex loop-in-loop chains. there are still filipinos who weave. there are still filipinos who work with gold. stop telling people these artforms are dead, they're not dead. you can't just make stuff up. you need to read the associated articles and watch the associated talks or stay quiet unless you have relevant personal experience, which you don't. oh my god.
#hate people who like to talk but don't like to learn#so they just say what they guess is true#but they don't even say 'well i guess the artform is dead'#they say 'the artform is dead which nestles neatly into my worldview and makes me soo sad'#the tiktok could have ended with 'and look at this modern day filipino woman who's selling similar belts online' but noooo#adam yaps
