i know everyone’s tired of me talking abt this but bc i’m on the subject now—once more on cosmetic surgery complications: let me clarify what i mean when i have said in the past “it’s rarely if ever a matter of ‘if’”—when you see “after” pictures on a cosmetic surgeon’s website, do you ever see ones that are “2 years after,” “5 years after,” “10 years after”? how often have you seen or spoken to a woman 20 years after her cosmetic surgery? do you think the surgeons do?
no. you know why? because, unless you’re getting more surgery, you stop mattering to that surgeon after your last post-op appointment. they do not give a shit about your long-term results. when you call in 2 years later, wondering why you’re experiencing xyz difficulty—guess how much they’re going to care? at most, if they even TAKE your call, they’ll tell you to go see your primary care provider.
most people have no way of knowing when their surgery is going to start causing problems. it might be a year. it might be 2. it might be 5. it might be 10. it might be 15. it could be 30. but trust me, you do not undergo major traumatic surgery to your body and get away with absolutely zero consequences.
i’m tired of people thinking they’ve got an argument when they tell me, “but EYE had xyz surgery, and i’m fine!”
tell that to the women en masse removing their breast implants due to complications that didn’t arise until years later. tell that to the women who are trying to remove gluteal implants and reverse gluteal injections because 5 years later and they’re showing signs of inflammation and infection (Blac Chyna, most recently). to women like me who’ve had nerve damage and spinal damage and muscle damage and infections and autoimmune conditions develop out of thin air after having that last post-op appointment.
i think a large number of we women who have had major cosmetic surgery are mentally unwell to begin with—or else we wouldn’t have gotten surgeries. but what i want to focus on is that we have grown up, as girls, being taught to ignore our discomfort, to minimize our pain, to get over our illnesses. i cannot in good conscience discount this phenomenon when i take into account why it is that YOUR surgery went so perfectly.
are you really recovered? or are you just ignoring the side-effects? did you already make up your mind that you’d bear the hardships of major surgery for the visual you wanted?
have you ever actually taken a moment to think about what you went through to have this surgery? have you forced yourself to adapt to the discomforts, just brushing them off as understandable collateral for something far more valuable to you (how you look)? how did the anesthesia affect you? how long were you on the table? how did your body respond to being given what it thinks is a mortally deep wound for no reason? how much pain medication did you need after? could you go to the bathroom by yourself? could you walk? how’s your scar tissue? is it still there, years later? what about your scars? have you lost sensation at the surgical site? is it still numb, years later? can you brace your core anymore? can you lift your arms above your head? how long? can you twist at the waist? what about your organs? did they suffer strain? what about your circulation? and can you draw in a truly deep breath after your breast surgery? how’s your oxygen intake after your elective rhinoplasty? or after your breast augmentation? have you felt any tingling numbness or dead zones or back pain after your BBL? or have you even thought about that? about any of this? stomach- and side-sleepers who’ve gotten breast augmentations, are you feeling rested these days?
how many of us have brainwashed ourselves into thinking we aren’t experiencing any unusual level of pain? how many women have died because of their practiced ability to shrug off extreme inflammation as “regular wear and tear”?
and you’re trying to tell me there’s NO chance of you or your tiktok faves having suffered even 1% of a change to your health after undergoing a major surgery?
no one knows it better than i do. you can lie to everyone else who’s never had cosmetic surgery, but you can’t lie to me. i know what you went through. and you don’t have to lie just to preserve your integrity.
i know women go through hell for this. and if they have, they need to pay attention to their bodies and watch for signs of long-term damage. or else you are also going to risk waking up one day and going, “hm. weird that i can’t feel my clitoris anymore. wonder why. it’s not like anything’s ever happened to—oh, wait.”
no one tells you what it all looks like 5-10+ years down the road. all you’re thinking about is the next year, at most. you aren’t thinking about lifelong consequences. you aren’t thinking about being 60, telling your doctor you had a tummy tuck when you were 27 or extreme liposuction at 18. you aren’t thinking about it. and that’s my whole fucking point, because neither was i.

I’m off Twitter again, hopefully for good. Nearly anyone who’s actually important is gone now, aside from the super-posters who have so much burn-in to the platform that they can never leave. But everyone’s still acting like what people say on Twitter truly, materially matters. The toxic mismatch was making me feel insane.
Insofar as Twitter was a “public square,” it’s because there were enough journalists, politicians, and rich people there that they would see thousands of people piling on some super-poster’s hot take and write a story about it or hold a hearing or yell at their other rich buddies. Things would happen. “You’re letting twitter write your headlines,” as they used to say.
But that’s not happening anymore. NPR left Twitter six months ago, after Elon tried to label them a propaganda source. It had zero effect on their audience. With Elon trying to drive news orgs away anyway, that’s just going to accelerate.
So it’s an echo chamber. That’s fine; most online discussion spaces are. But there’s too much platform mythos around Twitter being uniquely important; you saw it when Elon bought the platform and users, who’d previously referred to it as a “hell site,” started wistfully saying it had been a bulwark against anti-democratic encroachment. They’re still saying it now, even though the dynamic has totally broken down. It’s not a bulwark against anything anymore, not even itself. It’s the one place where Elon musk truly controls the public conversation. Nothing to do about that except leave.
They’re not wrong insofar as twitter did, for maybe 5 years or so, genuinely have the ability to change things, though whether for good or ill is yet to be determined. Now it’s just a place to have fun and hang out and shoot the shit. Which is fine! But when world events cranked up, this shit-shooting suddenly took on the tenor of a parliamentary debate. Which is exhausting, and manifestly not fun.
So I’m out; I probably should’ve been out sooner, but I kept on pushing the lever, hoping for another pellet. I mean this somewhat literally: I moved that awful “X” icon to the end of my phone’s Home Screen, but I still find myself absent-mindlessly tapping on the location where it used to be. Luckily, that’s now Reddit, where I’ve aggressively refused to follow any important subjects.
This is moderately inconveniencing for me; I can still find fun stuff online, but not with the volume or regularity that twitter provided it. Now I spend 10 mins on Tumblr, 10 on Reddit, 10 on Threads, 10 on Facebook, and it’s a good enough experience. But since I was spending 2 hours a day on Twitter, that’s probably a good shift. I’m losing the audience I had on Twitter, but I think a lot of them have left anyway. Maybe we’ll find each other again.

Burning a Resource (Or How I'm Leaving Twitter)
Hey again!
Yesterday, I drew and posted a little comic on my various socials (reposted here) about how I'm gearing up to officially shut down my Twitter. And I want to talk a little bit about why it isn't an immediate thing that I'm doing, and some thoughts I've had on losing what has ultimately been a really valuable resource in my personal and professional life, particularly in light of how it has gotten people jobs.
Why am I Leaving?
The long and short is I can't ethically stay. I find Elon Musk to be detestable as a human being and wish him nothing but ill-will, in the same way that he uses his money and resources to push ill-will upon the world. And under his reign--because he certainly treats it as a kingdom--the site had gotten a lot worse in a bunch of ways. For months, people have been describing the overall site's decline into far right views and activism. You can see all the problems of greed and bad business sense at work as so many functions have gone offline or been shunted to only being accessible behind a pay wall. There're increasing problems of the user experience--I know someone who has basically given up on Twitter because the site makes them "verify their identity/that they're human" multiple times a day, and then directs them to the Twitter Rules, without any sort of guidance on how any rule that Twitter has may've been violated. And, yes, there are a lot of services that I've elected to use despite having compunctions about them, but that's uhh... living in a capitalistic society and having to make decisions on how far you're willing to flex and while that's not a morally great feeling, it's part of how we have to exist at the moment and being cognizant of the decisions we make around these things is an important part of navigating further use. And this point, I am not going to keep using Twitter.
Why am I Staying?
That all said, I'm not leaving this exact moment. I'm not sure of my exact exit date. By the end of 2023, certainly. But I have a few things I'd like to wrap up before I go, and I want to briefly walk you through them.
First off, let me just say, this is also very highly influenced by my age. I am of the age when I have never worked at a company that didn't have a social media presence while I was there. I watched in real time as platforms like Twitter and Facebook became a regular part of business--through promotion and connections--and how that was added to workflows as I was coming up. I think a lot of the people who've had an easier time detransitioning from socials are folks who were not trained onto it from a young age. But that's not my case and I want to make sure that the business and personal aspects of my life that have been entangled in Twitter are compensated for in other ways.
To me, the most important loss that will come from this is of community. And that's why I've continued to stay above all else. There are a lot of folks I'm connected to on Twitter that I don't have connections to other places. Functionally, I like Bluesky a lot. I'm about to hit 1000 followers, which all told, is pretty good. I have over 4 times that on Twitter, but I would guess a significant portion of that difference is not on Bluesky because it's invite only. And while I may have connections here and there on other platforms, they're pretty diffused and I am not using most of those platforms regularly enough to actually know who all is where. Like, despite everything I just about Bluesky, it's my second largest platform above Facebook (not counting the IDW Sonic Squad page), Instagram, and on anything else, less than 100 people are set-up to regularly see my posts, and that makes the way I use social media harder to do.
And the primary way I do use social is to find and connect with creators and help promote their projects. So, this week, I'm setting my Twitter up with scheduled posts and through whenever I deactivate, I'll still have my posts going out about new projects that are important to me and to the people who worked hard on them. I think their work deserves whatever boost of recognition it might get from my social presence there.
In the coming weeks, my other big project will be to get as much contact info as I can. I have found so many artists that I really like on Twitter and I want to be able to reach out to them when I want/need to. I want to make sure my friends and I exchange ways to communicate outside of this. I'm taking this upon myself because that's, I dunno, my role? Editors tend to be the ones to reach out when we have a project. So I want to make sure I'm doing my part of be proactive about keeping that up.
Finally, I want to make sure that I'm not completely out of touch with the other personal and practical parts of Twitter. I follow Genshin Impact because I think the game's fun. I frequently get updates on it through Twitter and should probably make sure if I want to continue those updates, I'm aware of how to get them otherwise. I follow journalists and sex workers and activists and unions and smart people whose thoughts I don't want to lose and dumb people who post real funny and just like... my friends and I'd like to make sure they aren't lost in the ether either.
How We Collectively Move Forward Earlier this week, Becca and I got to do something pretty cool and talk to a class of sequential art students. If you were one of those students and are now reading this, hi! But we were asked to attend to give sort of a really cumulative look at working in comics from the point of view of an editor who has been at this for a long time and from a working freelance artist who does a lot of tabling at shows and indie work and is also still looking to get in and start doing work at bigger companies. As part of that, we talked to the kids about the advantages of tabling at and attending cons and how to go about meeting editors at shows and generally, how best to get the attention of an editor.
One of the things we talked about was with Twitter becoming less of an option, one of the more accessible ways to get on an editor's radar is going away. Not that editors like to be cold DM'ed necessarily, but as someone who has found a lot of talent through specifically Twitter and who recognizes that interstate, much less international, travel for cons is expensive and taxing, it sucks to lose that resource. And that's compounded by a lot of other resources going sideways--like, DeviantArt and ArtStation and some of the other art sharing sites have become hotbeds of AI theft bullshit and were full of NFTs before that. Some of the other potential social sites that could be used to promote your art like Cohost or Mastodon or TikTok are not always the best at discoverability or a good match to how you interact online (I don't really use any of those platforms). It's tough.
As has been said time and time again, it's neither fair nor particularly productive to have a significant portion of your work day be crossposting a million times and places and slightly different formats hoping to have your work hit where and when it needs to. Making comics is often a 2nd shift job, or a 4th & 5th shift job as you're trying to do more consistent work--be it a day job or non-comics freelance, plus caring for a family of some sort, plus the act of making art being a different job from the act of promoting it being a different job from the act of actually running an independent business to do all these things.
My only real solution is, y'know, collective support. On my own website, I have a Friends page with links to the sites of people I like and have worked with or like the work of. I know that the Cartoonist Cooperative has a talent database of their members. There's a fairly new Adult Artist Webring. One of the best things I think creators can do with their peers is equivalent exchange projects--be that getting blurbs from or having your friends/peers post about your new project on their platforms, exchanging promos of projects on Kickstarter updates or just reposting each other's stuff, making ad swaps so if you have an indie project, you can put an ad for your friend's thing in it. I think other people should of course have Friend-type pages on their websites, and I am always appreciative when an artist reaches out or declines a project and recommends some other folks they know. It's a major part of how things build in this industry and how we do maintain connection outside of social media spheres.
And, from an editorial perspective, one of the things that's really tough to navigate sometimes is how welcome you are in some of these spaces. I've mentioned Discords before, and while they can be a really great communal resource to the artists in them, there are a lot of very regular, valid reasons why artists might not want an editor in that space. So it does have to be considered and measured where and how folks are presenting themselves to get that visibility and traction.
My last thought is y'know do try your hardest while also, again, accepting that this is a ton of work all the time and is often done on top of other work, to figure out what makes sense for you to reach out to people. If you aren't able to go to cons and meet editors, or you're only able to go to cons where you don't think many editors are attending, how do you move forward? Well, maybe your solution is to do a lot of anthologies that have a mix of talent involved and might get some extra eyes on your work because it also includes people who are known names that editors follow. Maybe your solution is to get an agent who can send your work out to editors on a regular basis and let them know when you're looking for work. Maybe your solution is to get a hold of cool comic and zine shops and see if they'll do consignment on your books, even if you aren't local, because they're local to where publishing is. Maybe your solution is to look up if a company has a talent director/scout type role and to reach out to them, rather than editorial directly. There are alternate ways to both social media and cons to get your work in front of hiring folks eyes, thought they also require a bit of leg-work and luck.
Because I've talked about it a lot, here are the other places you can find me online.
Bluesky Instagram My Website Patreon Tumblr Buttondown Linktree I am on Cohost, Mastodon, Facebook, and LinkedIn, but don't really use them actively, so not linking here.  You can email me, though I ask you please follow my rules on the contact page.  If we know each other, you can ask for my Discord handle or my phone #.
Until next time!  What I enjoyed this week: Blank Check (Podcast), Solve This Murder (Podcast), One Piece (Manga), The Archive Undying by Emma Mieko Candon (Book), Reverse 1999 (Video Game), Joe Pera Talks with You (TV show), Witch Watch (Manga), Freakazoid (TV show), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Troy Little's graphic novel adaptation), drawing a little comic and generally trying to do a little more art to go with my writing, when the cats do understand their new litterbox.
New Releases this week (11/8/2023): Godzilla Rivals: Round Two (Editor on most of it) Sonic the Hedgehog #66 (Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog: Knuckles' Greatest Hits (Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog: The IDW Art Collection (Editor)
New Releases next week (11/15/2023): Godzilla Rivals: vs. Mechagodzilla (Editor)
Announcements: If you'd like to have me on your podcast, Twitch stream, at your convention, signing at your store, talking to your students, whatever, feel free to hit me up via my contact page. To those first couple things, sorry a few podcasty/Twitch-streamy things have been delayed. We've been having some headphone/mic technical issues, but that should be fixed soon.
Wanna support me? Visit my webstore, my Patreon, my Kofi, or my eBay. And you can always visit Becca's portfolio/shop/Patreon/Twitch streams too.
It may feel futile as all polling already shows we aren't being listened to, but email, call, or fax your representatives to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and the stopping of a genocide. There are also plenty of places to donate your time and money.
Pic of the Week: Enjoy a little comic about leaving Twitter.

Favorite Black Friday Deals
chronic illness/service dog edition
Spectra Laser Therapy (for dogs & people) - 25% off which is their biggest sale of the year
Lazarus Naturals CBD (for dogs & people) - 25% off and bigger discounts for large purchases
MYOS muscle formula (for dogs) - 20% off which is kind of their standard discount you can find throughout the year
Mary Ruth supplements and gummy vitamins (for people) - 30% off but I’ve noticed they have a hard time keeping things in stock so don’t plan on being able to set a routine easily with this brand
Muenster Dog Food & Freeze Dried Treats - discount varies by product but ranges from 25-70% off
If you want some cute wool socks, Darn Tough is a good brand with a lifetime warranty. If you get a hole in your sock you can swap it out for a new pair and it doesn’t matter where you buy them (although there are known counterfeits on Amazon so be careful but I think they’ll usually still honor that) Moosejaw is a great place to get them on sale. I recommend any of them that say “cushioned” as their regular socks are super thin dress sock style.
If you don’t know, a lot of the products on Chewy and Amazon are not actually on sale despite what they say. You have to watch the prices before the holidays to see if they actually go on sale or are artificially marked.
None of the products I usually recommend from those sites are actually on sale, but here’s a few honorable mentions:
Good quality dog sized fleece blankets for $7.99
This is a good quality budget dog bed IMO but it also goes on sale every chance it gets
Vanicream is an amazing skin care product line for people with chemical sensitivities. It’s always well priced but these are legitimate discounts as well. Can definitely recommend their: face wash, liquid cleanser (thin) or body wash (thick), shampoo, conditioner and I use their Vit C cream as face lotion and it’s amazing.

Atlanta’s big urbanism stories of 2022
DARIN GIVENS | JANUARY 22, 2023
Thanks to everyone who answered our call for the biggest stories in Atlanta urbanism from the last year, both good and bad! Below are some of the responses:
The growth of opposition to transit on the Atlanta Beltline
If you’ve lived in Atlanta for the last 20 years and attended some of the many public meetings about the plans for rail on the Beltline, the vocal opposition that’s emerged over the past year likely seems to come out of nowhere. Is it just some loud noise made by a small faction? Possibly. It’ll be interesting to see if it dies away or gains steam in 2023.
For now, take a look at Ryan Gravel’s good writeup on the reasons why transit is essential for the Beltline.
Tumblr media
Westside Beltline: progress and delay
The Urbanize Atlanta site says it well: the construction of the Westside trail is very exciting (will it end up being a development magnet like the Eastside trail has been?), but the timeline for the full build-out has been frustrating for people in those neighborhoods who are looking forward to a fully connected path: “First, the good news for Atlanta BeltLine patrons and proponents: Another section of the 22-mile loop is making concrete strides toward becoming a reality. Less encouraging news: The Westside Trail’s Segment 4, spanning a crucial 1.3 miles, isn’t expected to open for public use until deep into 2025.”
The ongoing fallout from Cop City / South River Forest
There was a controversial land swap that resulted in loss of trees, a fight for the forest that garnered national attention from activists, and generally a lot of ill feelings on the local stage about this public safety facility that’s poised to be built in a forest that was previously slated as public green space.
ThreadATL wrote about it a couple of years ago. The fallout from the city’s awful decision to ignore the Atlanta City Design concept for the park has been terrible to watch.
Tumblr media

Atlanta Medical Center closing
AMC in Old Fourth Ward became the latest in a string of hospital closures in Georgia, most of them (like AMC) are expected to have an outsized negative effect on lower-income patients in Black communities. As the AJC article about it notes: “Patients and doctors interviewed over the past two months repeated the expectation that the lower-income and Black communities would be the most harmed by the closures. They worry many will drop regular visits or never find a new doctor.”
Another major concern is access: AMC was served by three different MARTA bus routes, which made it accessible to staff and patients who need that transit option. Will the new offices they have to go to be as accessible?
The failure of the Edgewood neighborhood to support gentle density
The proposed rezoning of 90 and 98 Whitefoord Avenue in the Edgewood neighborhood would have produced 48 new housing units, including 25% of them priced for lower-income households at 60% of Area Median Income (AMI). The property is 4 blocks from a MARTA station and 3 blocks from Edgewood Retail (a regional jobs center) — great for walkable access. Sadly, it got shut down down before it ever left the zoning committee of the neighborhood. The proposal is still up at edgewoodforeveryone.com
Progress with parking reform
Planning pros tell us that several low-parking housing developments have been announced for the first time in ages for Atlanta. This is a huge change from a few years ago, when anything less than a ratio of one parking space per bedroom was unheard of.
Also, thanks to the leadership of Councilmember Jason Dozier, Atlanta is putting a lower cap on the number of parking spaces that can be built for new real estate projects. At the end of 2022, City Council made an amendment to the zoning ordinance that lowers the maximums parking spaces allowed to be built for new developments in Midtown and Downtown, the most walkable and transit-accessible parts of the city.
Two Peachtree tower in Downtown set to become affordable homes
Invest Atlanta approved $39 million to purchase the massive Two Peachtree office tower in Downtown with the intention of converting it into affordable housing! This 44-story building dates to 1968. Invest Atlanta will hold onto the building until a redevelopment partner is selected. Funding for the purchase is coming from the Eastside Tax Allocation District.
Converting office buildings to housing seems to be a trend in Downtown. Another 1960s tower at 100 Edgewood Avenue (across from Hurt Park) is being converted to 268 new housing units, likely for students. And not far away, work has begun on the conversion of another office building to residential at 41 Marietta Street, where it intersects with Forsyth.
Trolley line Trail finally happening
Eastside Trolley Trail between Kirkwood and the BeltLine is happening. The PATH Foundation has started work to link existing stretches of trail. Urbanize Atlanta reports that the trail will “start on-street in Reynoldstown near the Eastside Trail, run eastward through Edgewood, and connect with existing PATH sections that were installed prior to the 1996 Olympics as the project’s first phase. The finished project will provide a nearly two-mile route for non-drivers from the doorstep of Kirkwood’s downtown back to the BeltLine.”
Krog Street Market district
The construction of new office space next to Krog Street Market — one from Asana and one from Portman — is helping to fulfill the promise of the Beltline as not just a nice place to live, but a nice place to work. The variety of destinations on the Beltline help to emphasize that Atlantans are ready to live and work in places that aren’t served by highways for driving, but that are served by routes for alternative transportation.
The sudden removal of Peachtree Shared Space
This one really hurt. The Peachtree Shared Space, one of the most exciting projects from the Tim Keane era of Atlanta’s planning department, was dismantled at the order of Mayor Dickens. The roadway was returned to its sad former status as, essentially, a four lane car sewer.
According to the website for the project, it was supposed to shift directly into a Phase Two at the end of this Phase One, and add more features such as seating.
https://www.sharepeachtree.com/demo
It’s a safe assumption that the pushback on the shared street from powerful voices in Downtown — ones who didn’t like the idea of car lanes being turned into shared spaces with slower traffic — has succeeded. On Twitter, Councilmember Amir Farokhi wrote that he tried to change this decision about dismantling the shared space, but hasn’t been able to. Which is particularly disappointing since he’s the Council’s Transportation Committee Chair.
A developer was found for the Civic Center site
After a couple of disappointing false starts with other developers, Atlanta Housing has selected the team of Tishman Speyer and H.J. Russell & Co. as master developers for the 14-acre site, which has sat vacant for eight years. Atlanta Civic Circle has the story. Fingers crossed: so far, the developers haven’t pulled out. Though there’s some major concern over the amount of affordable housing that might be provided here (it should be a high amount, including deep affordability for lower-income households).

I am not an inspiration, I am a person.
I was thinking about sending a request for a Character x Reader thingy, but as soon as I wrote down “disabled, in a wheelchair” I realised it probably would not work, especially if the writer is not disabled themself.
Having another person in your life is great, especially when you are someone with a disability or several disabilities, as they can be really helpful in making sure I don’t just fall over and die, but they also help you have a sense of identity just by being a normal person. They compliment you for looking cute, not for dressing up. They don’t take me on a walk, we go out together. They help me make myself heard, they don’t speak for me. Disability is often narrowed just to physical disabilities, but also prolonged mental illnesses are disabilities, as they impact the person’s ability to function in a society. I know I stumble on this myself, but I try my best.
I don’t think ablebodied and neurotypical writers should be barred from writing disabled characters, but I feel more often than not they miss the nuances. It often comes down to how disability is viewed: medical model or social model. Are you disabled because of the condition you have, or are you disabled because the world is not accessible? Are you left outside because you need a wheelchair, or because there is no ramp, or worse, there is a lift, but you have to get inside to ask for a employee to come and operate it?
The fact is I’m just a bystander in a way. I’m autistic but also a product of prolonged trauma, and only use cane occasionally. I don’t have to worry about physical accessibility, but I care about my fellow people and will pick up a fuss over lackluster accessibility. Poorly optimised site not supporting screen readers? I will notify you. Your event didn’t think about disabled people? Let me give you few suggestions for the next event. Is this ramp too steep? I don’t know, but I know someone who will tell you. However, as you can see, I’m much more knowledgeable of how to design physical accessibility, but don’t always know what it might look like to autistic people. Part of it is that I was diagnosed later in life, part of it is trauma and my inability to ask for anything for myself.
I may be a mess, but I’m also a disabled person. Don’t look at me with pity, either make sure you are a good friend and respect me as a person, not as a token of your tolerance and good will, or be quiet. If you have the time and energy to advocate for disability rights, then I would appreciate that, but first, try to read some works written by disabled writers, thoughts and regular life stories of disabled people, of regular disabled people. Maybe read the basics of disability studies if you feel like it, maybe just so you can quote Tom Shakespeare and confuse people.
I’m sorry if I come across as harsh, that is not my intention, but I encourage you to question your views on disability once in a while, and don’t interrogate people about their disability, don’t ask them to prove it. Disability is not a monolith and neither are the disabled. Generally, don’t use person first language (person with autism, etc), unless someone prefers it.
TLDR: I don’t expect perfection, and I love seeing more disabled reader fics, as I’m a sucker for self-indulgent fantasy where the Character just accepts everything that comes in the package. Just be aware that it doesn’t come across as pity, but also don’t discount the experiences that come with the disability, don’t overlook it. Indulge us!

One of my very favorite people on this site!! đŸ„ș You are so compassionate and thoughtful, and it's always so clear how much you want to learn, which is super commendable. I LOVE all your meta -- I'm always in awe when someone plops Scenario X in front of you and within minutes it's just "ok well I can see why this happened but also this other thing and here are possible reasons for that but also it's fucked up for these reasons and --" It's just....the therapy-informed analysis? It's so, so good and I'm so glad you share it with us on a regular basis.

Thess vs Mild Curses
Today was a cursed day. Well, mostly cursed evening. I had to take out some trash, and also pick up a few things. Like, the recipe I wanted to try today required red onions and I had used up the last of my red onions so I needed more, and also some broccoli and chestnut mushrooms for my chicken broccoli pasta bake, and more chicken and some squash for this chicken and squash tray bake I want to do. Also antihistamines, and some mallet meds since I was already going to be out (so I don’t have to do an extra trip when I actively run out).
Now, the original plan was to stop at a pharmacy on the way to the big Sainsbury’s, pick up mallet meds, and then finish the trip to the big Sainsbury’s and do my shopping there. Except the bus that takes me in that direction was being an asshole - one of those times when you check the app to find out when it’s coming and it keeps moving the goalposts in that regard. Something about a water main problem way at the other end of the line, apparently. Not to mention traffic. Anyway, point is I got fed up and went to Peckham instead.
Picked up mallet-meds, but that took awhile because the one person working the register spent five minutes chatting to a friend before she decided to actually do her job. Found out that a different pharmacy (one without a pharmacy counter, if that’s not a contradiction) was having a sale on antihistamines so now I’m stocked up for the whole of the summer ... also picked up one of those pill containers where there’s a compartment for every day of the week and you just put your meds in there and that makes it easier to keep track of whether you’ve taken them or not. It wasn’t expensive, so I got it; now all I have to really remember to do is the antihistamine in the morning and since I start the morning with paracetamol anyway, it’s an easy enough one to remember. I maybe should have got one of the ones that divides up morning and afternoon but it was more expensive and it’s not really needed because I only need the antihistamines in the summer.
Then to the supermarket. Peaches were on sale, and that was something. Except when I went to go to the self-service checkout ... well, okay, first thing you need to know is that there are two self-serve checkouts in this store - one for people with baskets and not a lot of stuff, and one for people with trolleys. There are obviously fewer self-service checkouts in the trolley area, because the loading area’s bigger in each. Point is that when I went to the basket-only self-service checkout ... they’d closed it down. All of it. Every single one. So they sent us all to the far fewer self-checkouts in the trolley area. I obviously had a quick glance to see if actually being checked out by a human being might be faster ... but there was only one person working the till. So there I am with a fairly heavy basket, waiting in a massive queue.
Best part? The basket-only self-service checkout opened again right as I got to a self-checkout on the trolley side. Seriously, fuck everything.
All the running around ate a lot of my evening and made me rather tired and sore. Of course, I was kind of struggling already. The other day, I tripped and while I didn’t fall, I caught my right forearm pretty hard on the doorframe. There’s no visible bruise, but there’s pain and a bit of swelling, so that’s nice. Also a mosquito bit the back of my left hand, just beneath the first knuckle, and I probably scratched it in my sleep because now not only does it itch when I move it (which is ALL THE TIME), but if I do give in and scratch it, it hurts. I got some witch hazel ointment to see if that would help. It does a bit, but requires pretty regular application.
So, yeah, a lot of nonsense today, though there were a couple of good bits too, I guess. Not sure what the rest of the week looks like work-wise, though. Apparently the other site is having a staffing problem right now (illness on top of a lot of people taking annual leave) so he’s going to be doing some work there for the next couple of days. Thankfully this has not had him call me intothe office. However, there is that “when the cat’s away, the mice will play” issue with the girls in the office, so we might end up with the work we’ve done to finally whittle down the typing queue getting undone. Clearly the company has given up its “sensibly one or two people overstaffed” bit of common sense that was the norm when I first started working for them on a permanent basis. Oh well. As long as I don’t have to commute with the weather being like it’s been lately, I’ll cope.
Now, I have a Cooking With Spoons entry to write, and then back to at least a little bit of video game. Managed to get to the epilogue of Wylde Flowers and ... yeah, you don’t find many farming sims that get that deep or that dark, but this one went there. But now I’m in epilogue and happy to just poke at it until I get my barn and chicken coop upgrades. Plot’s good, but sometimes you just want to raise chickens in peace.

W.IMBLEDON, 1987.
His appearance at the W.imbledon winners’ gala has become a regular occurrence these days, despite the fact that Dave is only twenty. He greets the members of the Royal Family with a fluid bow of the head and a familiarity in his handshake, and the tuxedo he’s wearing no longer feels ill-fitting and foreign like it did only three years ago.
Dave Talbot is right when he says playing at W.imbledon is like playing in his living room. This isn’t his home Slam, but the poms have taken him to heart as one of their own. If they can’t have an English winner, then maybe a Welsh-German-Aussie is the next best thing. He’s the new King of Grass, an indomitable force at the very top of the world. Even though every movement makes his sore muscles ache and his dodgy ankle is only held together by a whole wad of sports tape, Dave feels fucking amazing. Winning never gets old.
He holds the trophy aloft for the cameras and poses in front of the pair of Australian flags, set up in honor of him and his compatriot, Sophia. Sure, she’d won R.oland-Garros last month, but nothing compares to the pomp and circumstance that the English do so well. She’s just as wide-eyed as Dave was three years ago, but the grin on her face is unshakable. She’s only a year younger than Dave; this is the age of the young guns. The new generation has arrived, and it’s arrived in style.
The flashes from the cameras are blinding, but Dave’s used to it. Blink, and keep smiling. These photos are going to be on the front page of every newspaper tomorrow, so he hopes to God he looks good. He’s slicked his ginger hair back in an effort to make himself look older, but Sophia had vetoed the Blues Brothers shades he’d intended to bring along. Maybe the All England Lawn Tennis Club doesn’t have the same sense of humor as him. Oh, well.
There’s barely a quiet moment for the two winners, but when Dave manages to extricate himself from a conversation with two older ladies, he finds Sophia standing right behind him. “Oh, thank God. I was looking for you.” He grabs her hand and darts through the crowd. Never mind the fact that he stands at six-foot-three and looks painfully obvious anywhere he goes, he still feels very Bond-like.
A darkened balcony provides a perfect escape for the pair, and Sophia carefully shuts the French doors behind them. “You looked like you needed a rescue.” She laughs.
“Yeah, well, when one of the ladies asked me if it was true that redheads have a higher sex drive, I knew it was time to leave.” Dave shakes his head, scratching a spot behind his ear in slight embarrassment.
“Look at you, Davey. You’re all red!”
“Nah, it’s just hot in there. Too many people, too much noise.”
“Thought you liked that sort of thing. I know what you get up to back in Melbourne.”
“That’s different, though. You can act like an animal in the pubs and no one will pay you any attention. Here, every time I turn around, someone wants a picture or autograph or handshake. It feels like it gets worse every year.”
“Oh, the pains of being a winner.” Sophia smacks him on the arm playfully.
“Fuck! That hurts!” He winces. “You’re a daft cunt.”
“Dave!” Sophia can’t stop the fit of giggles that overtakes her. “You’re not supposed to swear here. It’s a respectable place.”
“Oh, fuck that. I’m half man, half sports tape at this point.” Despite the shooting pain, he gives Sophia a smile of his own. “You’re lucky I like you.”
“Oh, really? Or what?” She rubs the spot on his arm where it supposedly hurts.
“Or I’d have thrown them over that balcony.” They’re looking over Centre Court, the site of their triumph. “Like this.” Dave picks Sophia up, bridal-style, causing her to kick her legs and laugh in mock protest.
“Davey! My hair!” She’d spent three hours on it earlier this evening, after all. “You fucker!” She’s barely audible over the sound of her own laughter. “Put me down!”
“All right, all right.” He puts her down with a chuckle, and leans his arm against the balcony railing. “Sorry about your dress, Soph. You look very lovely tonight, and I mean that.”
“Sure you do.” Sophia retorts, trying to smooth the ruffles on her elegant black dress. A moment of calm falls over both of them, as they admire the view of the stadium. It’s much quieter and much nicer here with just the two of them. The brown-nosers inside are too much to bear. “I’m really happy we won this together, Davey.”
“Yeah. Me too.” His hand goes to rest on her shoulder, and she leans into his touch, resting her head on Dave. “You know this already, but I’m always so proud of you. This is just the beginning.”
“I’m proud of you, too. Always have been. Except maybe when you climbed the stands today.”
“What, did I embarrass you?”
“A little bit.”
“You don’t mean that.”
“No, I guess not.”
He gives an amused snort. “Hey, Soph. I’ve got a stupid idea.”
“What now?”
“We should get married.”
“You’re joking.” She steps away from Dave and cups a hand over her mouth to suppress a laugh. “You’re mad, Davey.”
“A little bit, maybe. But why not? It would be fun.”
Sophia pauses, as if she’s considering the wisdom of explaining to Dave that people don’t just get married “for fun.” Instead, she just shrugs her shoulders. “Just listen to yourself.”
“You don’t have to tell me yes or no right now. We’ve got a long flight home. Think about it.” He’s so cavalier about this whole thing, like he’s too immature to fully comprehend the weight of marriage. “I think we make a pretty good team.”
“I’ll be honest with you, Dave. This wasn’t quite the romantic proposal every girl dreams of.” She cocks her head to one side, trying to figure out what the hell is going through the mind of her childhood friend.
“You’re not every girl. You’re Sophia. You’re a fucking W.imbledon winner, for fuck’s sake.” Dave shakes his head. Never mind the fact that they’d never so much as been intimate, or exchanged “I love you,” or even officially dated. “Just think about it, that’s all I ask.”
“Why? Why now?”
“Why not? I want a reason to come back to Melbourne. You’re— you’re real. You don’t bullshit me. You know me for who I am. You understand me in a way no one else does.” Dave pauses, trying to think of the right words. The copious amounts of champagne he’s consumed aren’t helping. “We could get that house in Prahran you wanted. You know, the one with the swimming pool and the grass court? But, uh, most of all— hey, are you listening, Soph?”
“Yeah. Every word.”
“Most of all, I want to be with you, because there’s no one like you and there’s no one who ever will be like you. You mean the fucking world to me. More than any of this.”
Sophia is silent as she takes in his words, her eyes searching his. His earnestness sends her heart racing, and suddenly all the other sounds around them are drowned out. She can only hear the blood rushing in her ears. “I don’t know what to say, Dave.”
“You don’t have to say anything.”
Sophia wraps her arms around his neck and cranes her head upwards to press a kiss to his lips. They stay locked in that embrace for what seems like an eternity, his arms cradling her waist. Inside, the organizers are probably looking for the stars of the show, but out here, they’re just two kids caught in the heat of the moment. Pausing for breath, Sophia pulls away from Dave, but doesn’t let him go.
“Yes, of course I’ll marry you, you stupid bastard.”

Wellness IV Therapy Hydration, Vitamins, and More for Wellness
Tumblr media
In today's busy world, people are constantly looking for ways to improve their health and wellness. Whether it's through better nutrition, exercise, or other treatments, the goal is the same: to feel good and stay healthy. One option that has gained popularity is Wellness IV Therapy. It promises hydration, vitamins, and other nutrients to give your body the boost it needs.
What Is Wellness IV Therapy?
Wellness IV Therapy is a treatment where vitamins, minerals, and fluids are delivered directly into your bloodstream through an IV (intravenous) drip. This allows your body to absorb these nutrients more quickly and efficiently compared to taking them by mouth.
The treatment is often used to hydrate the body, replenish lost vitamins, and improve overall health. Some people use it for a quick energy boost, while others use it to recover after illness, stress, or a busy week.
How Does Wellness IV Therapy Work?
When you receive IV therapy, a healthcare professional inserts a small needle into your vein. A bag filled with a mixture of fluids, vitamins, and minerals is then connected to the IV line. Over the course of 30 to 60 minutes, the solution slowly drips into your bloodstream.
Unlike oral supplements, which must pass through the digestive system, IV therapy delivers nutrients directly to your cells. This means they’re absorbed faster and in higher amounts.
Benefits of Wellness IV Therapy
There are several benefits to Wellness IV Therapy, especially if you're looking to improve your health and wellness:
Hydration Staying hydrated is key to good health. Whether you've been working out, traveling, or feeling unwell, IV therapy can quickly restore fluids to your body. Proper hydration supports digestion, helps your skin look fresh, and boosts energy levels.
Vitamins and Minerals IV therapy is packed with vitamins like B12, C, and D, as well as minerals such as magnesium and zinc. These nutrients help your body function properly, support your immune system, and fight off fatigue.
Improved Energy Many people turn to IV therapy when they need an energy boost. The combination of fluids and vitamins helps fight off tiredness and gives your body the fuel it needs to perform better.
Faster Recovery After an illness, hard workout, or stressful period, your body may need extra nutrients to recover. Wellness IV Therapy can speed up this process by giving you what your body needs in a short time.
Clearer Skin Because IV therapy hydrates the body and delivers vitamins like vitamin C, it can improve the health and appearance of your skin. Many users report brighter, clearer skin after regular treatments.
Common Ingredients in Wellness IV Therapy
While the exact ingredients in Wellness IV Therapy can vary, there are a few common ones that most treatments include:
Saline Solution: A mix of water and sodium, this helps hydrate the body.
Vitamin C: An antioxidant that supports the immune system and skin health.
B-Vitamins: These vitamins boost energy and support brain function.
Magnesium: Important for muscle function and preventing cramps.
Zinc: Helps the immune system fight infections.
Is Wellness IV Therapy Safe?
For most people, Wellness IV Therapy is considered safe when administered by a trained professional. However, like any medical treatment, it’s important to talk to a healthcare provider before trying IV therapy. Some people may experience mild side effects like bruising or soreness at the injection site, while others may have allergic reactions to certain ingredients.
Who Can Benefit from Wellness IV Therapy?
Wellness IV Therapy can benefit a variety of people, including:
Athletes: After intense workouts, IV therapy can help with muscle recovery and hydration.
Busy Professionals: If you're feeling run down or stressed, the vitamins in IV therapy can help you feel more energized.
Travelers: Long flights or trips can leave you feeling dehydrated and tired. IV therapy can quickly rehydrate your body.
People Recovering from Illness: After a cold, flu, or other illness, IV therapy can give your immune system the extra boost it needs to recover.
Is Wellness IV Therapy Right for You?
If you often feel tired, dehydrated, or run down, Wellness IV Therapy could be a great addition to your wellness routine. However, it's not a magic solution. IV therapy works best when combined with a healthy lifestyle, including good nutrition, exercise, and plenty of rest.
Final Thoughts on Wellness IV Therapy
Wellness IV Therapy is more than just a quick fix. It's a powerful way to deliver hydration, vitamins, and minerals to your body, helping you feel your best. Whether you’re looking to boost your energy, recover faster, or simply support your health, IV therapy can offer benefits that are hard to achieve with diet and supplements alone. Before starting any new treatment, consult with your healthcare provider to ensure it’s the right choice for you.

Exploring the Benefits of Portable Hand Wash Basins
Tumblr media
Staying clean and healthy is essential to keep your overall health good. One great way to do this is by using a portable hand wash basin. These are sinks that you can move around easily. They are very useful for washing hands when you're not near a regular sink. There are even models that are designed to be accessible to people with disabilities. This article talks about why these basins are so helpful. We'll look at different places you can use them, how they keep us healthy, and why they're good for the environment.
A Handy Solution for Many Places
Portable hand wash basins are perfect for many places. You can use them at outdoor events, like fairs or sports games. They're also great for schools, especially during times when more hand washing is needed. On construction sites, these portable sinks for rent are useful as well. Workers can wash up before eating or after a task. These basins are even good for healthcare settings, like clinics or hospitals. They provide an easy way for staff and visitors to keep their hands clean.
Health Benefits
Washing hands is one of the best ways to stop germs from spreading. A portable sink for hand washing makes this easy, even when there's no regular sink nearby. This is especially important in preventing sickness in crowded places or where people touch the same things. By using these basins, we can cut down on the spread of illnesses.
Easy to Use and Rent
Another great thing about a portable sink is that it's easy to use. They come with clear instructions and can be set up quickly. If you don't want to buy one, portable sinks for rent are a good choice. This means you can use them for a short time, like for a special event, without needing to buy one.
Cost-Effective and Convenient

Easy Habits
The power of habit may make or break a person. If it's a good habit, it will unquestionably benefit you in many ways, but if it's a bad habit, you will have to deal with challenges or disruptions in your life.
However, it appears to be true that once we become addicted to a behavior, we all find it challenging to break free from it. But the reality is that some poor habits inevitably result in a road that is unsuccessful and leaves us feeling unpleasant and apprehensive. Therefore, choose beneficial habits wherever possible to keep a good and healthy lifestyle. These routines not only make you feel content but also add appeal to your life.
All students are taught about creating positive habits in the classroom. At their age, acquiring daily routines is quite simple. To help students become the healthiest, happiest, strongest, and best versions of themselves, teachers and parents place a heavy emphasis on teaching good habits to their children's lifestyles.
The fact that healthy habits depend on people's livelihoods to exist is their finest feature. Along with enhancing academic performance, it also enhances happiness and personal success. In this blog post, we'll go over some of the easiest behaviors anyone can adopt to raise their quality of life.
1. Wake up early in the morning.
Early morning is a time of serene skies and undisturbed peace that enables individuals to start their day earlier. Those who wake up early in the morning can have a better outlook on their lives. There are multiple benefits, ranging from balancing mental and physical health to spreading positivity all around. Besides, the habit of waking up earlier can boost intellectual skills, lower the risk of mental illness, and make individuals satisfied, optimistic, and energetic throughout the day.
2. Do regular exercise.
Exercise is the most prominent aspect of life. It is indeed a good habit for a healthy mind and body. If you exercise regularly, you can maintain a healthy lifestyle, as it strengthens the heart, improves circulation, boosts energy, makes bones strong, and helps your cardiovascular system work efficiently. Moreover, forming a practice of daily exercise can reduce the chance of dying early because it acts as a remedy for various diseases and health conditions.
3. Make time to read.
We are all aware that reading enhances our cognitive and memory abilities. Therefore, daily reading should become a habit for everyone. Make sure to read everything, whether it's a book, novel, magazine, news article, comic, or the most recent updates. By cultivating reading habits, you may increase your vocabulary, your communication abilities, and your capacity for critical thought.
To enhance your learning skills and comprehension abilities, take help from an exceptional e-learning platform, i.e., “study24hr.com”. It is a trustworthy portal that aims to deliver the best services and facilities to its learners. The site allows aspiring individuals to access mock test papers, quizzes, notes, and promotional videos to easily prepare for their exams. Nevertheless, “study24hr.com” makes student-teacher interaction easy with the help of digital tools. Learners can ask questions, clear doubts, and collaborate with their peers or colleagues to improve their academic performance.
4. Drink plenty of water.
An adequate intake of water is necessary to keep your body hydrated. Make sure that you consume at least 8–10 glasses of water throughout the day. According to research, consuming more water can lubricate joints, form saliva, regulate body temperature, boost skin health, deliver oxygen, and improve the digestive system. It can also reduce the chance of red blood cells sticking and clumping together, promoting healthy blood flow.
5. Go on a walk.
Going for walks is another habit you should develop. It is one of the easiest habits that you can add to your daily routine. Both your morning and night walks make your body fit and healthy. Going on a morning walk refreshes your mind, connects you with nature, and keeps you fit both physically and mentally. On the contrary, an evening walk boosts your immunity and muscular strength. Also, it helps you digest food easily and sleep well. Hence, try to walk at least 1000 steps after taking your meal. It’s a must-do to live a healthy and happy lifestyle.
To get a daily booster, please visit Daily Booster Article| study24hr.com
6. Spend time with your friends.
There are some situations in life when you feel distressed, alone, tensed, or low. In such scenarios, you need your friends or loved ones to understand you well, motivate you, and cheer you up. However, stress and anxiety cause demotivation and discouragement, which everyone experiences at some point in their lives. But finding problems and tackling hardships is the real solution to these problems. So, spend quality time with your besties and surround yourself with positivity and happiness.
7. Maintain a healthy diet.
The next habit that children, in particular, should possess is taking care of their health. Nowadays, they have cravings for junk food. They like to eat burgers, pizza, momos, noodles, etc., neglecting homemade foodies. Try to avoid these kinds of foods and make it a habit to eat healthy and nutritional food items. Add fruits, vegetables, dairy products, cereals, and whole grains to your diet to grow healthily.
8. Get enough sleep.
Everyone has an awful feeling when they feel sleepy. They usually don’t take an interest or show their caliber in completing the tasks when they don’t get enough sleep. Sometimes, people get annoyed or angry at themselves for not getting quality sleep. To avoid such things, one should get proper sleep, as it helps improve brain performance, health, and mood.
In conclusion
Undoubtedly, all the above-mentioned habits can unquestionably be readily adopted to promote a happy and healthy existence. To create these habits for a productive and positive day, try to set aside some time for yourself. You feel more content and proud when you participate in these activities more frequently.

Make Mental Health Your Priority
Without good mental health there is no health. Mental health is a critical aspect of our overall well-being and should be our biggest priority. Cancer is generally down to emotions and mental health. MacMillan estimate there are 3 million people living with cancer in the UK with that figure rising to 3.5 million by 2025, 4 million by 2030, and 5.3 million by 2040. (Source: McMillanorg)
Mental Health Disorders
Mental health disorders greatly impact an individual's day-to-day functioning, relationships and overall quality of life. We're still living in a pandemic and if it teaches us one thing, it's that we should all be doing more to look after and deal with our mental health.
Mental Health needs a multifaceted approach
Addressing and dealing with mental health requires a multifaceted approach. It is crucial to recognise and acknowledge mental health, which should be addressed like we would address physical health. Just like any other illness, a mental health disorder can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. It is important to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Deal with Your Mental Health
Once the presence of a mental health concern is recognised, seeking professional help is essential. Mental health professionals, such as psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists, play a vital role in diagnosis, treatment and being able to help the wider population get on top of mental health.
Self-care practices
Self-care practices help us to manage our mental health. These include regular exercise, engaging in hobbies, relaxation techniques (such as deep breathing or meditation), maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and building a supportive network of friends and family. Self-care practices differ for everyone, so it's important to explore what works best for you.
Mental Health: Creating awareness
Creating and cultivating an awareness on mental health is equally important. This is where mental health starts. By fostering a culture that promotes mental well-being, individuals are more likely to seek help and access the necessary support networks.
Mental health is an on-going journey
It is important to remember that mental health is an ongoing journey and progress can take time. It is important to start dealing with mental health. It requires continuous effort from each of us to learn, grow and adapt as we continue to navigate mental health.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, it is important to get help, to reach out for support. Many helplines and resources are available, who are happy to offer assistance and guidance.
