Back to the Modern Epic Au but this time we've got M.E Athena!

M.E Athena has lightening scars on her face and arm from where Zeus struck her. So I'm just imagining Athena sitting with a little five year old Annabeth, watching The Secret of Nimh (It feels like a movie Athena would show her kids), when Annabeth crawls into her lap.

She looks up at her with big innocent eyes before very gently touching the and asking what happened. It takes Athena a bit to respond, "I angered my father, so he struck me with his master bolt".

"Does it still hurt?"

And Athena smiles very gently, hugging Annabeth and pressing her cheek on the top of her little head. "No dear, not anymore", though it does still hurt sometimes—occasionally her cheek will twitch with phantom pains—she doesn't want to worry the girl. And after a bit they go back to their movie.

Experimented AU: each of the group get nabbed differently. Chloe gets sold off to them. Adrien abducted after the baddies orchestrate a car crash; leaving his mother in a coma. Marinette is taken after the baddies make a pretense robbery of the bakery(their real goal was to take her the robbery was to throw off the investigation.) Nino went 'willingly' after baddie do a home invasion to keep them from looking for his younger brother hiding in the room. Alya was investigating rumors of suspicious activity and was caught by the baddies security. They went "hey free test subject!"

second impression of the prompt. Reminds me of the thing in 80s and 90s movies were escaped animals from secret research facilities would get ~mystirious~ powers. (Garfield's nine lives one life getting shape shifting, Rats of Nimh, Bagi, the Monster of Mighty Nature to name a few examples)

I think I might’ve made Cream a little too short, but I’m not sure if the artist intended her to be older or kept her the same age. In their AU, Cream and Cheese are siblings, which I adore wholeheartedly. I just love them so much!

Look at the designs they’ve created, aren't they absolutely stunning? Rouge’s design, in particular, is so classy and stylish. The whole art style feels like a blend of old-time Disney movies with a touch of modernity, but honestly, it reminds me even more of *The Secret of NIMH,* directed by Don Bluth. That movie's art and animation were incredible. (The sequel doesn't exist...)

So once again, PLEASE check out Eeriemauss! They’re so talented, crafting not only amazing redesigns but also incredible stories. They’re on a break right now, which is totally fair! Masterpieces take time!

Established connection that was never utilized:

These two dueled one another for up to one thousand days, fought each other for the Numeron Code, and was the whole reason Astral was created in the very first place. 

Despite that, the show never went into anything with their cosmic dynamic. Or even acknowledged it much.

But think of all the missing scenes, or even canon compliant Added scenes, in fics you could produce by brainstorming even a little bit about them. 

There’s a variety of fun tropes to play with;

enemies-to-lovers, forbidden attraction, pure angel x fallen angel, garden of eden symbolisms, second chance, secret attraction, doomed yaoi, “was never meant to be, but became anyway”. 

To name just a potential few.

There’s a lot they could teach each other:

Astral’s arc through the series involved learning the slow acceptance of chaos, but a lot of it was surface level and from a very young / emotionally immature point of view. Don Thousand is the self proclaimed deity of chaos, its harbinger. Embracing it cost him his entire home. Think of the new emotions Astral could experience from learning about his early home world if he was forced to listen to Don Thousand’s perspective of it. Especially now that Astral has opened that connection to chaos again in their world . . .

On the other side, think of how Don Thousand might be affected by being forced to understand Astral’s innocent but earnest perspective. Astral represents everything Don Thousand lost when he was cast out and banished. To then have this same being allow your side to be told, for once, and defy its programming to do so . . . 

Make Shit Up. No one can stop you.

The ship doesn’t exist right now. You have the power to forge their dynamic using all the creative liberties you desire.

And again, it’s not like there’s nothing in-canon tying them together. There’s actually a lot. So you can either have a fun blast digging for it, or just make up your own stuff from scratch. 

Creatively, its an untapped well.

2. What’s your most recent fic and how far do you think you’ve come?

This is a companion question to #1, about the first fic I ever wrote, which I discussed here. My most recent completed fic is Byzantine Perspective, part 3 of my Old Guard mer-person AU. Which is interesting because the first installment in that series, Negative Space, is the first thing I ever wrote for The Old Guard and is almost exactly like the fic discussed in #1, in that it is a collection of vignettes rather than a fully fleshed-out story. And even Byzantine Perspective is somewhat episodic. So I guess the answer would be... not all that far, but that's ok because I'm not dissatisfied with where I started. I am, at least, somewhat more disciplined about forcing myself to write the connective tissue instead of just the good bits.

10. Have you ever written for a fandom without reading other fanfic for it?

Well I have certainly not read, and have no inclination to read, any Secret of NIMH fanfic. But I don't know if that counts as "writing for a fandom." Similarly, I wrote an Old Guard/The Good Place crossover and have never read any Good Place fic (and have no inclination to read any), but I consider that written "for" TOG fandom with the Good Place bits just set dressing. (I don't think this particularly counts either, but I shared the news of my hamster's passing on Facebook by writing up a meeting between myself and the Death of Rats, which could be considered fanfic, and I've never read or wanted to read any Discworld fic.)
