oooooh okay i don't normally do genderbends but i'm into it!!!!!

genderbends would be terrific if they weren't all so fucking heteronormative and if they actually had a reason for making one character male/female that wasn't just "this is a straight ship now. I am going to talk about this now-female character's legs". there has to be a REASON that there's a genderbend. what would be different? how would it affect the character(s)? what would be the same? what wouldn't be the same? what does the canon character have that the genderbent character doesn't have and should have? what advantages does this character now have? what does the character still have but is seen/nuanced differently? what is the PURPOSE OF THE FIC OTHER THAN MAKING THE SHIP STRAIGHT

#and I'm gonna put answers to the questions from a femtony perspective in the tags #what would be different? sexism obviously but going deeper than that- she would have a stronger need to prove herself. she would be LESS #insecure imo and more hellbent on being taken seriously just bc she doesn't have the time to be insecure. which sounds kinda bad. but yeah #how would it affect her- people don't take her seriously as much; the fics that mention that tony is short? femtony is shorter. imo.#SHE WOULD BE MORE SERIOUS. tony flirts all the time it's a part of him and it's great and femtony absolutely wouldn't flirt with like. steve #bc a lot of the time his flirting is seen as something that he does to throw people off and femtony wouldn't have that Advantage not really #what would be the same- her personality when she isn't on guard. her relationships with the team other than steve not in a relationship #sense but in a He's The Boss&He's A Man& Large& Tony Shouldn't Be So Scared Of Him But She Is sense bc that's just how it is bein afab babey #and Just Like (Most) Other Fics they would be rivals to lovers. just with another issue for tony to get over (which is helped by the fact #that even when steves mad at his teammates he doesn't get physically aggressive. he doesn't intimidate. that's important to show #but they still argue and fight and shit. steve doesn't get that tony is being (even more than usual) difficult bc she's trying to keep #him from thinking that he has any sort of control over her which is difficult to do when he's the leader of the avengers. it would be a mess #what wouldn't be the same- imo she'd have better self esteem in the sense that she doesn't think she's The Worst but she would go over the #top to prove herself. it would take longer for her and steve to grow close. oh she and pepper would have been good friends way sooner #their relationship didn't work out for the same reasons as canon though #what doesn't and should she have that canon tony has- more respect towards her. but really?? I don't think it would be very different #she should have the ability to feel safe around certain people aka steve but also.. tony in general knows that he's a target so they're even #the same there it's just worse for femtony #advantages- she's capable of flirting to get things but hmm she doesn't like to. she has smaller hands so precision work is easier.#closer friendship with pepper and probably with maria and natasha. slightly off topic yknow what I hate.
