I just wished the Muslim community would acknowledge the nasty way it treats its converts like the minute we convert we're expected to know everything. Muslim converts especially if they're Afro diasporic are held at such a high standard like the MINUTE we mess up its seen as if we're less than. And i know this because I've met white and Asian converts and neither of those groups get judged as harshly. My mothers been in veil since she was at least 19, she's studied Quran but because she's not fluent in Arabic, because she's not from an "acceptable group" she's seen as lower. Because of her light skin you can tolerate her but the minute you ask what country she's from...the minute you find out she's a convert...she disgusts you? Like we're....being killed off and this is the shit our community sees as important; where you're from, how long is your Muslim lineage, and how much Arab do you have in your blood.
I literally hated being black and Muslim growing up because....neither group supported me but the older I get...the more I learn that it wasn't the black community that wronged the Muslim community but the other way around. Like I've been a hijabi my entire life and I guess that's the ONLY thing that makes nonblack Muslims respect me which amazes me because as a Muslim I know MOST Muslim women aren't in veil like but just to get....a semblance of respect I have to act a certain way, dress a certain way and speak it to own a right that I should already have as person because as a Muslim that's what you're /supposed/ to do. The more I think about this community the angerier I get.
