thinking abt various possibilities for hickey-centric fix-it rescue scenarios and am realizing that if you set the divergent point for them getting saved far enough into the show he would just. Not want to leave. at all. i can see him getting rescued and brought to safer land/waters/wherever with the rest of whoever is still alive and just. running away. going back. craving the mind numbing expanse of arctic wastelands, too deep in manic psychosis to process anything other than the connection he believes he has with the tuunbaq. obviously the ending they get in the show is for many of the characters the only possible ending that would ever make thematic sense, but for hickey especially he just Could Not do Anything that Wasn't staying in the arctic and dying there. he would never survive in the arctic and he would never survive anywhere else. he can't leave he can't stay all he can do is die there and face how much he does not belong anywhere
#trying to plot my own fix it rescue au in my head and am thinking through everyone's arcs and where they need to end up#for thematic closure#and there is just nowhere hickey could get the significance he wants from life Other than the arcti#c#yet he could never survive there because he doesn't belong there#the primary tragedy of his character is that he doesn't belong anywhere#he will never feel the recognition or belonging or fullfillment he so badly wants from the world#this all depends on his mindset post ep 5ish i'd say but#he could probably still be saved as late as ep 6 pre-carnivale#i really think killing dr macdonald at carnivale was kinda the point of no return for him#but idk. much to think about#the terror#terrorposting#cornelius hickey
