Dr Romantic 2 #1-2
Dr Romantic 2: Just want to say that I’ve not watched the first season and don’t care to. But I’ve got a soft spot for Lee Sung-Kyung, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about what (to me) looks like yet another goofy medical drama. I liked how our romantic leads already have a history before meeting each other in the present - that makes things so much easier imo. They’re not likeable but I think that will come with time. I’m starting to get tired of people getting beat up by bullies/loan sharks/gangsters/corporate overlords etc. though. These are probably serious issues in Korea, but sometimes I think writers fall back on these tropes because it’s the quickest way to generate sympathy for characters. It’s starting to feel really cheap though. When the gangsters/loan sharks showed up to beat Woo-jin, I literally rolled my eyes. Like, of course he’s being beat up by loan sharks. What else was he gonna do? I think there have to be more enterprising ways of generating conflict for your characters.
That said, where they’re taking it is pretty interesting - there’s an interesting conversation going on about the ethics of being a doctor for money. Dr Kim seems like Mr Selfless and he’s disappointed by Woo-jin’s obsession with money. I get that in a privatised institution where a lot of people pile into to make money and can get away with malpractice, an altruistic, fair doctor should be lauded. But working for money =/= giving poor service. A lot of people want money, but a lot of people also have pride in doing good work. The two are not mutually exclusive. I also don’t know how Dr Kim can look at a boy with bruises on his face, practically begging for money, and tell him to piss off for not taking the moral high ground. Idk, maybe I missed something, but it just makes me uncomfortable. I like Dr Kim though. I like his sternness - I was afraid that the show was gonna make him some hippy eccentric, but his character exudes stability more than anything. Him telling Woo-jin that his <insert surgery lingo here> was not a reckless panic decision hints at an experience and skill that goes deeper than any of the newer characters can imagine. He’s clearly going to mentor them, which is good because they’re both so immature.
In other news, I like Doldam. I like the other doctors, I like the soft autumnal vibe. I can’t wait for the show to really get going so I can spend time with these characters. Casting So Ju-yeon as a doctor is pretty appropriate, since with those dimples, I’m sure she could cure cancer or smth...sorry, that line was cringe but I had to get it out 😅. Ahn Hyo-seop is giving a better performance than I expected - he’s closed off, but his eyes communicate the chararacter’s vulnerability, which I appreciate. The show’s intense moments can sometimes be more funny than tense (like that car crash in episode 2), but it’s gripping where it counts - I was genuinely absorbed by the surgery on the minister of defense, despite the man’s body being so fake 😂. That’s pretty much all I have to say on the show for now. Looking forward to it!

Prince!Ren AU
this was such a GOOD look for ren please bring this back amen thank u
Genre;; royal!au ++prince!au fluff uhhhh aka my fave
Warnings;; none,, i mean not that i know of??? It’s pure fluff?? maybe a tiny bit angsty idk but if u dont like boys who can’t cook dont read??
Pairing;; Choi Minki/Ren x reader
Requested;; yes (by anon)
Summary;; Ren is a prince who has moved to your country to study to be a King, and he happens to be your neighbour. Things don’t go too smoothly when you find out his identity...
Style;; bullet point + stuff
Word Count; 2530
AHHH i love royal aus so expect this to be;; long and detailed;; because i also stan minki,,, and he is already a prince,, coming up with a plot for this wasnt hard lmfaoooo;; i got my big ass 2litre bottle of water ready its 1am and its WRITING TIME
Ren was born into the royal family of a small country in East Asia
He was originally second in line until his brother Minseok gave up his right to the throne so he achieve his dream (that didn't involve being king lmao;;)
So little 8 year-old Minki is now thrust into the spotlight
Up until this point he’s had like;; no training on how to be a King
So he decides when he gets to his twenties he’ll go abroad to study politics and languages and stuff
So he can still be a good king when the time comes;;
But he doesn’t want to be treated like a prince wherever he goes so,, he instead decided to go by his real name rather than his royal name when he’s abroad (which less people know)
(okay it is a thing like prince harry’s name is actually henry FUN FACT)
But he’s super talented like;; he has a way with words and he’s really popular in his country
Because not only is he really beautiful but he’s also amazingly funny with a great personality
Like I mean it when I say he could probably make friends with a brick wall
He’s a little;; weird;; but it just makes him even more loveable sdjhfgjsd
He’s honestly treasured by his country because he just seems like a normal human he doesn’t try to act better than anyone else uh BLESS how kIND
ANYWAY
So the time comes for him to go;; and he chooses on going to your country!! (and your university what a coincidence am i right)
Now you’re just a lowly university student living in a block of flats not far from the campus
And it’s a nice block of flats but you’re on the 8th floor and the lift doesn’t work;; yikes
I mean at least you’re not on the 10th floor right??
So when you see someone moving into the flat next to your with boxes and boxes of stuff you are overcome with pity like;;; yeah you did that once before too
And you muster up the courage to go and help out this guy who is reALLY struggling with his suitcases
He nods a thank you as you pick up one of the suitcases and carry it up the last flight of stairs,, too tired to even speak (i feel u bro)
When you both reach the top he points out which room to take his bags to and guess what
He’s your new neighbour! (yay)
You help him put all the bags in his room and after about 3 minutes of trying to get all his breath back he manages to whisper a ‘thank you’ and offers you some tea
Obviously you take him up on the offer I mean you’re a uni student free sustenance is v good
BUT you have to go back to your room because;; well;; a welcome gift??
All you have in your room that's suitable are like candles and stuff but… don’t get me wrong but this guy doesn’t seem like the biggest fan of candles especially after walking up 8 flights of stairs
So you decide on giving him some of your sweet potatoes and a cute little keyring that your friend gave you that you’ve never used
It’s a little rabbit with a tiara on how ;; cute ;;
When you return to his apartment suddenly the shaggy looking guy who you helped carry his stuff up the stairs is now;; this beautiful man;;
Hes mid-way through making the tea when he notices you’ve returned
And he looks up and flashes you the cutest lil eye smile lol
Oh my god are they the same people even
He finishes making the tea and walks over to shake your hand
‘It's a pleasure to meet you!! I’m Choi Minki~’ he smiles, taking your hand in his
Shfsdhfjgshdjfh his hands are soft what (listen my fave hc is that minki has super super soft hands @ me on this gn)
‘Ahhh hi yes,, i’m y/n and i’m your neighbour!! I got you a present’
His face lights up when he sees the present sdfhdjhf
‘How did you know i love bunnies??’
You both sit down on the sofa in the middle of his flat surrounded by boxes
Drinking your tea and talking about life
You discover he’s attending the same university as you;; studying politics and modern languages
He’s like;; super smart but he doesn’t show it off at all??
But there’s something about his face that seems really familiar
Like as though you’ve seen him before but you don’t know where
So you just assume he reminds you of an old friend or something
As time passes you get really close
You walk with each other everyday to campus and back, you tell each other absolutely everything and you even cook for one another on alternate nights
One night when it was Minki’s turn to cook he was making some food from his home country;; cold spicy noodles (i love those pls omg)
And ahh he is not at all good at cooking but he tries hard so;; let’s let him off yeah
But he concentrates so hard but he genuinely just;; burns everything like idek how he does it don’t let minki cook;;
In the end he just;; gives up so you cook together!!
And as you’re quickly making a batch of pancakes together he decides yeah good time for a food fight
Proceeds to chuck flour all over you
And as he’s laughing at your pain you realise wow okay yeah his laugh is cute oh nOOOO you got a crush on your weird neighbour????
Obviously you ;; don’t make this known and eat your damn pancakes in peace
After chucking flour right back at Minki of course
Over the next few days he just suddenly stops coming into uni because;; he’s in a couple classes with you let’s just say you’re a politics student lol
You try knocking on his apartment door a couple times and nobody replies even when you call his name
You basically put 2 and 2 together
And make 5
And assume that he’s deliberately avoiding you because he realised your crush
In reality there’s been a minor problem in his country;; a law is being passed through government that’s quite controversial to do with like;; minority rights and stuff;; so he’s had to return to fight to get it passed and he didn’t really want to leave without saying anything but;; he also didn’t want to reveal who he was to the whole world
It’s a constitutional monarchy and democracy thing okay pls; i can’t explain political systems;
One night about a week after Minki’s sudden disappearance
You decide to turn on your tv because damn life is boring when you can’t go to Minki’s house and play snap lol
And on the news they’re talking about minki’s country bless where the spicy noodles come from
But the news report tells the story of this brave prince who is attempting to pass a law to protect the rights of the people of his country and wow this prince is a nice guy
And they show a clip of a press conference he held earlier on in the day
And
Wow
Okay
That prince looks suspiciously like your neighbour Minki???
Wait
THAT IS MINKI??!!
Minki = Prince Ren what the ??
Not long after this the law is passed and Minki returns back to his apartment next to yours and oh my god
You see him walking up to the entrance and you freak out again because
You have a crush on a prince???
He didn’t even tell you he was a prince???
What??? Is???? Going????? On??????
He comes and knocks on your door like usual and as you swing open the door he quickly pulls you into a hug
‘y/n!!! I missed you so much!!! I’m sorry for disappearing i had family stuff but I’m back now!!!’
And you just tense up a little because oh god this is a prince who basically lied to you for your friendship so far
‘Hello, Ren.’
Uh oh
You can feel Minki just tense up slightly and pull away from the tight hug
And he kind of just stands there awkwardly looking at the floor wondering what to say next because oh my god how did you find out
‘Y/n, please don’t treat me differently now you know who I am… I wanted to tell you I really did… How did you even find out?’
He looks into your eyes like he’s searching for something because uh oh the girl he’s liked for a while and the only girl who treats him like a normal human being is reallllllly pissed off with him and he,, doesn’t have any idea how to fix it
‘You were on the news, Minki. How long were you going to keep it from me? Were you even planning to tell me at all?’
‘Listen, I was going to but there was never a good time and honestly, I thought you wouldn’t want to be friends with a Prince?’
You just sigh heavily at his answer and go to slam the door in his face but he stops it with his foot and holds on to your wrist tightly
‘Please, y/n, can we talk properly?? I’ll make food.’
You take your hand off the door and stand back to let him into your flat and he immediately heads to the kitchen and pulls out a ramen packet
He starts to cook it all while you sit at the kitchen counter, watching him as he tries desperately to not burn everything sdjhfgsjdgh poor minki
He manages to,, kind of make it (well done minki)
And he places the bowl in front of you and sits down next to you in complete silence like ok this is getting a little awkward
So perk up the mood he just managed to cook without burning the whole block of apartments down
‘So, the prince can cook ramen but nothing else hm?’
He giggles slightly at your comment and nods
‘Yeah my parents always tease me about it too, especially since my brother is amazing at cooking’
He laughs again and picks up his chopsticks to shove in a whole load of ramen
So you finally turn to look at him and you notice his eyes are red and oh my god you made him cry??
Part of you is like yeah but listen he deserves it he lied to you for like 6 months
But then again;; it is understandable that he wouldn’t want everyone knowing he’s a prince
And it doessssss make you feel a little special that he didn’t want your relationship to change at all
So
You do what your heart tells you to do
And you pat his head and ruffle his hair a little
He looks comPLETELY BAFFLED LIKE,,, WHERE DID THIS COME FROM
But he smiles really wide and giggles again
‘Is this how you show your forgiveness?’
‘No way Minki, I want at least 5 more meals cooked by you before I can get over this’
And omg
He doesn’t get that you’re joking at first
And you just see this look of absolute terror go across his face like
Ohhhh no if he even tries to cook another meal the whole building is going up in flames like
Ramen was hard enough he had to keep checking the packaging every 5 seconds to make sure he was doing it right
Then he realises you’re joking
And he laughs because oh my god
What kind of gullible-
Sooo as time passes from here you get even closer
Some people suspect his identity but you vouch for him and say that ahh no he’s no prince lol i know he’s beautiful but nooo you’re mistaken
And minki is sooo thankful for you and you both just fall in love with each other even more compLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO EACH OTHER’S FEELINGS (idiots)
That is until one evening Minki announces out of the blue that he’s going back to his country
And he wants you to come with him
And you’re leaving tomorrow
He leaves you with a ‘pack quickly~~’
Like wow thanks for the suddenness of this i hAVE TO PACK EVERYTHING IN LIKE 3 HOURS
But you manage;; somehow
And you get on the flight and Minki is so damn nervous for some reason
Like is he scared of flying??
What??
So you hold his hand during the take off and landing just in case lol
Minki would never admit it but that made his heart race even more
As soon as you land he takes you straight to the palace and walks you into this big ballroom and asks the servants to call for his parents
And you just assume like ok yeah
He’s just introducing me to them as his friend from abroad thats cool
But when they turn up Minki suddenly stands up all stiff and proper which is like
Woah okay
And he kneels down before his mum and dad and starts to say something which is almost inaudible
‘Mother, Father, I have brought before you today the person I told you about, the one I am in love with. I intend to marry this person once the time is right but I thought you should meet them in person first. I am very sorry for rejecting the many royals you previously brought before me, but it is because of them that I felt I had to turn them down.’
Yo yo
Hold up a second
Minki??? Told his parents about you??
He is in love with you too okay what???
He turned down other royals because he liked you?? Okay wow
Shooketh
‘Please, let me introduce the light of my life, y/n’
Woah okay
You step forward to stand next to minki and oh my god his face is like a bright red it’s so cute
‘Your Majesties, it is a pleasure to meet you.’
You bow, curtsey whatever idk I’m not a royal person idk how this works
They smile and just say
‘Ahh, Minki you didn’t have to go to so much trouble!! We would’ve accepted pretty much anyone as long as you were happy!!’
And this look of relief washes over his face and he turns to you and grabs your hand, dragging you out of the room
You reach the palace gardens and you’re surrounded by cherry blossoms and roses
And he doesn’t let go of your hand but instead brings it to his lips and kisses it gently
‘I should’ve confessed to you first but I wanted to get this out of the way… In case you didn’t catch that, I am in love with you, y/n’
Ahhhhhhhhh
Heartbeat rises
‘You could’ve at least given me a hint! I almost had a heart attack!! But… yeah… uh… me too’
He giggles lightly and leans in to press his lips against yours
It’s a little cheesy but
It’s Minki what do you expect
And you couldn’t ask for anything better
DHSGJFHGSJDH I CANT DO A PROPER ENDING BECAUSE I’LL START BLUSHING SORRY;; i hope this is good lol ++ that yall enjoy it but it’s like time to sleep now here so goodnight!! other requests will be posted as soon as possible but i’m a little busy still so;;

Review: The Waking Land by Callie Bates
2.5 or 3 stars I am a lying liar from Liar Town who totally forgot she hadn't posted a review. Sorry! (I do this every time I read something way before my approved time to post reviews...) Despite being initially kidnapped by him at gun point to be used as political leverage, Elanna has come to view the king as a surrogate father, and is understandably upset when he is assassinated. Things continue to get worse for her when she is framed for his murder, and she must flee the county. She winds up in her homeland, where she must come to terms with her feelings for it, her birth father, and the powers she has tried to keep hidden from her captors for more than a decade.
I’m really glad I wrote the bulk of my review back in April, because I can barely remember anything about this book. I can't remember what I had for breakfast sometimes, so I guess this isn't surprising, but definitely proof that it didn't make much of an impact all the same. Anyway, here's what I wrote right after finishing the book in April (surprisingly coherent for being written at like 5 AM, and complete with bullet points, because I love bullet points):
I’m having a hard time articulating my feelings about this book, largely because they are very lukewarm. It’s not a BAD book by any means, but it’s not great either. It’s okay. I don’t regret reading it, but I don’t think that I would have picked it up had I been able to look at more readers’ reviews.
Let’s start with what I didn’t like, I guess: • “In the lush and magical tradition of Naomi Novik s award-winning Uprooted…” what does that even MEAN? This book is nothing like Uprooted, which, full disclosure, is one of my absolute favorite books, and the comparison to which finalized my decision to click the “Request” button. I mean…they both have trees?? And cram a lot of story into one book? And..magic?? I don’t know, that’s all I got. They are completely different books, and the juxtaposition with what is – at least, in my opinion- a much better-written book does this one no favors. (Edit from the Future: Huh, that's no longer part of the Goodreads blurb? It's still on the book's Amazon and Barnes & Noble pages, though, so I'm sticking to my grumbling here.) • Ok, so you know that old writing adage “show, don’t tell?” There is a LOT of telling. Constantly. We get what is largely a play-by-play of Elanna’s thoughts and feelings, and it drove me up the wall. Also, we are TOLD that she is very much into botany and wants to make a career out of it, but not until maybe… the last third, I guess, do we actually get to see her nerd out about plants. I want to SEE her get excited about plants like I (a library person) get excited about books. I know I’m working with a rougher draft than most of you will be reading, but still. • Building off of the last gripe, there is a lot of repetition in the telling. We are frequently reminded that: o Her loyalties are very divided and she is conflicted o Her birth culture is BARBAROUS…until she suddenly does a 180 on this, idk (would like to have seen this change of view develop more naturally, but okay) o X is new and conflicts with information she was previously taught?? Which piece of information is true???? o Loyce is the Worst (in all fairness, she is) o Elanna is PISSED o The ever-expanding litany of people who have sacrificed themselves for the greater good and/or Elanna o Love interest #1 has a Specific Love Interest Smell. Love interest #1 is LOOKING at her! Love Interest #1 is touching her omg. I feel like I could probably go on, but those are what stuck stuck out in the most in my mind. I just remember frequently thinking “Yes, I KNOW. You told me this already. Get on with it.” There was actual sighing and eye-rolling , you guys. • SPEAKING OF LOVE INTERESTS: the romance did not work for me. It happened too quickly, and felt like it was there just because it NEEDED to be. I was frankly surprised when the MC’s feelings were reciprocated; I was getting nothing from SPOILER Love Interest #1 END SPOILER. The same more or less goes for the other participant in the half-hearted love triangle (which I was glad to see quickly resolved, honestly; love triangles make me want to punch myself in the face). THESE ARE NOT REQUIREMENTS. You do not have to shoehorn romantic angst into your story for it to sell. • Do you know how done I am with first person present tense narration? It happens so much in YA genre fiction, and this one is no exception. Thanks, Hunger Games. (Or Twilight. I don’t actually know whose fault it is.) • As with her story, I had lukewarm feelings at best for Elanna. She seems to be a lot younger than her age (19), and repeatedly made some really bad decisions that hurt other people early on in the story, which I found to be frustrating. She also just sort of felt…flat to me? She didn’t inspire any feelings in me beyond annoyance, and I actually found myself forgetting her name on a few different occasions (Edit from the Future: I couldn't remember her name until I looked at my review just now...actually, I couldn't remember anyone's name, WHOOPS). She’s not terrible, as MCs go, but I didn’t love her. • I am still super confused about what “wedding the land” means?? Do you just have to have sex? Do you have to do the do in the woods?? Does it even require the do to be did??? No matter what it means, the implications of sex as a rite of passage for a young woman made me really uncomfortable. • SPOILER: We are told that a particular character is Destined to Die and…he does?? Don’t do that???END SPOILER (Edit from the Future: I MEAN, ok usually when this we are told A is going to happen, it doesn't, or B happens instead, so MAYBE this is a good thing but...probably not.) I did like some things, though: • One character whom other authors probably would have given a redemption-by-death arc (I SEE YOU, ROWLING), did not get that. That is such a lazy thing to do, and we did not get that here. Bates twisted it up, and I appreciate that immensely. • There are no bad Scottish accents from the Scottish-equivalent characters, and I appreciate that, too. • Rhia is my grumpy, buff child and I love her. • Victoire was great too, and would have liked to have seen more of her. (As a side note, I kind of ship her with Rhia? Idk.) • I don’t remember any girlhate, which is always a good thing. • How gorgeous is that cover?? • The last 1/3 or so was much more readable, so maybe that’s where most of the editing energy had been focused? It gave me hope that the final draft will be better, but I doubt enough will have changed to make me genuinely like this book. In any case, I’m not curious enough to check when the book comes out. Edit from the Future: Still not interested in a reread, but I will probably look at other readers' reviews, now that mine is being published. The long and short of it: the concept was GOOD, but the execution lacking. It and the protagonist managed to be both annoying and forgettable at times (somehow??), but were generally just…okay. The romance was predictable and kind of forced. The writing drove me up a wall some of the time, but SOME of that MIGHT be rectified in the final draft. I don’t recommend this book, but I also don’t NOT recommend it. Give it a shot if the concept sounds good to you. It’s not a bad way to spend your time, and you may like it more than I did. Edit from the Future: Looks like there's going to be a sequel. I doubt I'll read it, but I thought you might like to know. A big "thank you" to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read it early in exchange for an honest review! (Originally published on Goodreads)

part 5
Will POV
Will is sitting down to eat breakfast with Guy. He's got the usual of toast and juice, not feeling confident venturing into the local delicacies this morning, and Guy is making do with a large black coffee. They hadn't really talked much, as Guy seemed to be engrossed in reading some book on mechanical stuff, but as Jonny shakily slipped into the seat next to Guy the two look at each other worriedly. Jonny is staring into the distance and alternates between shuddering and a horrified expression.
"Jon, are you OK?" Will starts.
"Yep. Sure. Great... I'm great." Jonny doesn't look great. There's no colour in his cheeks but green and Will can see this heighten as he glances at the food on the table. Will is about to say something else when Jonny makes a low sound of disgust and folds his arms across the table, resting his face on top staring directly downward the "eugghhh" sounds emaninating almost like sobbing. Guy tries to lighten the mood.
"So, did you fix your guitar yet?" The noises get louder and higher pitched. Guy just rolls his eyes, chugs the remainder of his coffee and stalks off to his room. Will is awkwardly patting Jonny on the back from across the table.
"Why don't you go and see where Y/N is at, that'll cheer you up." Jonny's red-flushed face springs up instantly.
"I'd rather not thanks!" With this it instantly descends back onto his arms. Will frowns, not quite knowing what to do.
"Look Jon, just tell me what's bothering you so much." His voice hardens. "Is it Chris?" Jonny says something but all Will hears is a mumble through arms and table. "Try that again?"
"I said, yes - if you must know." Wills eyes narrow.
"Has he done something to Y/N?" A ruby blush forms on Jonny's cheeks and the guitarists face contorts in almost pain.
"I guess you could say that." Wills heart drops, it better not be what it sounds like.
"Does... Did Chris book Y/N her own room?" Jonny hesitates and then shakes his head.
"It...um... Didn't look like it" Will looks entirely unimpressed, bordering on angry and Jonny gives up holding back and lets it all spill out. "OhgodWillitwassohorrible... I mean he's my best friend and I DID NOT NEED TO...Eugh it just feels so wrong and Y/N
..." His head half slams against the table as he whines into it. "I never needed to see that, I've seen enough of that girl... Oh god it feels illegal and I ... I" Will calmly let's Jonny finish his outburst and as he sags, deflated, into his chair let's his expression rest into that of cold calm calculation. Jonny clocks it. "Are..um.. are you OK Will?" Will doesn't respond, simply places down the piece of toast he was eating and takes a deep breath inward, nostrils flaring. Jonny looks more and more concerned the more seconds pass without Will moving. Suddenly the reason for Will’s emotional state dawns on him and he swallows, hard. Will is silently cursing himself for trusting his front man and supposed friend. He has to work hard to suppress all the emotions that come to mind when he considers him... Doing that. Will wants you protected, Will wants you safe, Will does not want Chris' hands all over you. That man needs to be forced to control himself if he can't manage it himself, he thinks darkly and his expression turns slightly sinister, whatever it takes.
**
"Right before we finish up, has anyone got anything else to add?" Just as Will asks Chris stumbles through the door, a red slap mark visible on his cheek. He falls into one of the empty chairs and Will stares daggers at him across the table. Jonny rolls his eyes and gets up to leave.
"Aren't we meant to be doing the set list?" Chris asks. Will scoffs and also leaves his chair.
"Yeah, two hours ago. I don't have time to wait, Guy can fill you in." With that and a tell tale nostril flare, the drummer leaves the room - with Jonny hot on his heels. Guy looks with curiosity at Chris' injury.
"Who'd you piss off this time?" Chris winces at the memory.
"Well I thought one of the girls from catering was into me." He grimaces. "She was not into me." Guy laughs at this, raising his eyebrows at his friend.
"Dude I swear you have no game." Chris' eyes glint dangerously.
" 'S not what that girl from the party would say. What was her name again... Monica? Was it Monica? Something like that." Guy's smile has been wiped entirely off his face at the memory of Chris swooping in on a girl he'd had a crush on for months and collecting a token one night stand to add to his collection. He tried to not let Chris see how much the comment affected him and attempts a jibe back.
"She was pissed and a slag Chris, not exactly an achievement. Just accept it, girls don't just fall at your feet anymore. You've lost it." Chris squares his jaw challengingly.
"Pick me out any sober, normal girl you like and I'll prove you wrong Berryman." Guy smirks back.
"I think I'll take you up on that"
"Left hand side, about 15 people along - the one by herself with the eyes"
Chris had half a plan. He'd make sure to pay special attention to the girl during the concert, then he'd either try and catch her as she left, or try and get her backstage somehow - he hadn't quite decided. Guy had been as difficult as possible in choosing a girl pretty far into the show so he'd have to work fast. He moved quickly toward the left-hand side of the stage, trying to look casual. His eyes contacted hers as he sang and moments later he saw her collapse directly onto the ground. Oh.
**
Give me one, cause one is best
In confusion, confidence
Give me strength, reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul.
~~An extract from Politik by Coldplay
You had known fully well that by not taking clothes into the bathroom you'd have to walk across half your hotel room in only a towel, and yet you did it anyway. You tried to ignore the way Chris' eyes darkened as you slid from behind the door and instead focused on making it to your suitcase. As you went to bend down to open it you felt a very warm, very male, body behind you. Chris wraps his arms around you from behind and hums happily into your ear, sending shivers down your spine. You try to restrain yourself and catch a glance of the clock, reading 9:57.
"Um Chris?" You squeak and he hums again in response. "Don't you have a band meeting at 10?" You feel his arms tense slightly before relaxing once again.
"I can think of things I'd rather do." His words so close to your ear are almost unbearable but you don't want him to fall out with his friends and have to fight your urges.
"They'll be pissed.” You remind him and he doesn't respond. "Chris, I promise I'll make it up to you." You lean your head back to rest on his chest. "Later." You see the deliberation in his eyes and as you look up at him he heavily brings his mouth down on yours for a quick, hard kiss.
"mmm…You better." With that he gently releases you and begins to pull on clothes.
*****
You take so long dressing you miss breakfast, which disappoints you greatly. Chris and the band have already taken off to prepare the stage for tonight and as Chris promised to send a car for you this evening you find yourself with not much to do to fill your time. You try and write something in the diary you've been failing to keep for years but can't really think of anything good - and you keep getting interrupted by texts from Chris.
SEXY: don't think I'll forget about ur promise darling xx
YOU: wouldn't dream of it :-p xx
SEXY: this sound check is so boring xx
SEXY: will is driving me up the wall xx
YOU: play nice and u might get rewarded ;-) xx

You sigh. If you didn't change the subject soon you'd lose all control you had left.

YOU: b extra nice. xx
SEXY: I'll tryyy xx
Will was so kind and lovely to you, you couldn't understand why he and Chris had so many altercations. You'd never seen any in the flesh, but Chris always seemed to be moaning about Will doing something or another - though mostly just in passing. He didn't really talk about his friends much in the present tense, at least not to you. He told you old tour stories and tales from his university days, but nothing recent. Nothing even slightly recent. You guessed that maybe they'd all got a bit more responsible on this tour, and so hadn't done much worth telling and so hadn't really been bothered by it. You did find it sometimes hit you that Chris was 29, compared to your 19. He sometimes made references for things before you were born and you worried that he would easily bore of you and your immature ways. To you he seems so sophisticated and organised, he knows what he wants to do in his life and is right in the middle of doing it. He knows all about fine wine, fancy dining, can speak multiple languages - he's just so grown up. The last boy who had been interested in you tried to win your favour with a game of beer pong, so this was certainly a step up. You hold Chris in the highest esteem, he is measured, controlled, kind and yet so fun and spontaneous at the same time. He is just as perfect as you always thought he would be and it is like a dream to be with him.
SEXY: do you have the dress on you? Xx
Shit. Totally forgot about that.
YOU: how bad would it be for me to say no? xx
SEXY: a problem easily solved babe xx
SEXY: a lady can't wear the same dress twice anyway xx
Oh god, what was he going to do.
YOU: I got some stuff to wear dw xx
SEXY: leave it with me xx
YOU: Chris I can dress myself :-P xx
SEXY: ur job is to put the clothes on xx
SEXY: I endeavour to undo ur hard work xx
SEXY: so I may as well provide the clothes ;-) xx
Well you can’t say no to that.
You leave Chris' hotel room and catch a glance at yourself in the mirror as you do. The fuchsia silk, box pleat dress barely grazes your knees and your white ankle strap heels give you an extra inch of height you're not used to. You had been slightly worried when the concierge had arrived with the fancy "Nanushka" box - a store you had seen the outside out from your taxi ride and resolved that you'd never have enough money to enter - but the dress was beautiful and you had text Chris to try and thank him. Sure, he hadn't replied yet, but the car would be here soon so you had to get a move on. You had discovered the pockets seen into the sides of your dress, and so slipped your still silent phone inside as you let the door lock shut behind you. Your hair is gently flowing in a sheet behind you, with two small plaits emerging by your temples and meeting at the back of your head to hold it back. You had managed to remember your makeup when you packed, so your eyelids are dusted with white and silver and your lips darkened slightly. You have never been amazing at full makeup transformations, but you liked what you could do and you feel as if you've done a good job. You seem to fit in among the regular clientele of the hotel as you make your way towards where Chris had told you the car would wait. As you step outside you take the sunglasses from your hand and slip them over your eyes. It's not that late yet, and the Hungarian sun is still viscous. Luckily for you, your car seems to have just pulled up at the valet entrance. You had made Chris describe the exact male and model, so you didn't accidentally get into someone else’s, and you are 99% sure this matches up. The driver hurries out.
"Madám YL/N?" He questions hesitantly,
To avoid the language barrier you nod, and he opens the back door - looking quickly and resolutely at the floor. You brush it off as some sort of cultural difference and settle in the soft leather of the back seats. You check your phone again. Nothing. Not even a single text. You try to hold down the disappointment. Ever since you and Chris had been talking you were convinced it was a joke and the doubts still longer slightly in your mind. You can't comprehend why he would ever want you. He could have pretty much anyone he wanted, and yet here you were in a car paid for by him, going to his concert, in a dress he bought you. Thinking about that again makes you frown. Although the concierge had tried to hide it you had caught a glance at the bill in the bottom of the bag. Doing the math in your head the 126 thousand Hungarian Forint was over three thousand pounds. Three thousand pounds! That didn't even count the heels, or the concierge fee. Part of you was desperately excited at Chris' habit of eccentric spending on you, but most of you felt mildly uncomfortable. There's no way you could do anything like that for him, you've barely seen three thousand pounds let alone spent it on a gift. You are simply petrified he's going to get bored of you; you have a perfect, kind, loving boyfriend and you feel like any second you could lose him.
The car pulls up to a side entrance to a huge stadium. Your door is opened and you slip out, thanking the driver. Two men are standing in front of the door. One looks up and you recognise him to be Matt. He looks taken aback for a second and the man next to him is alerted to your presence, growing as he looks you up and down. His eyes linger slightly before elbows him hard before smiling rather unnervingly at you.
"Hey, nice to see you again." His eyes are fixed onto your own and you attempt a smile back. He notices your tension and hurries to move his Hungarian co-worker out of the way to open the door. "I got stuck on ID today, so lucky for you I can let you in." The smile is back and it's really starting to worry you. You open your mouth to thank him but you are interrupted. "Oh! I've been told to direct you to Chris' dressing room. You're a bit early so you might have to wait for a bit, I have no idea where he's at." You nod and he seems too eager to personally show you the way. You are left, sat on a chair in a pretty small, yet we lit dressing room, awaiting Chris.
**
As you sit, your mind wanders. Your hands toy absentmindedly with the neckline of you dress, wishing it was an inch or two higher. It's not that you don't like it. Not at all. You just aren't really used to wearing such... Out there... Clothing. Greys and pastels were your usually colours of choice and the reddish pink that currently encapsulates you is a step out of your comfort zone. Not that you've been anywhere near your comfort zone for weeks. You still felt partially like you were in a dream that was going to end any second now, and your whole body is shaking with nerves. The texts you have been getting from Chris today have been extremely... Well... Suggestive doesn't really cover it. You are torn between thinking it's his idea of a funny joke and taking him seriously. Either way it's made the reality of the entire situation much more doubtful to you. The romantic side of your mind tries to convince you that it all makes sense, he was drawn to you in that crowd and somehow had decided he likes you enough to keep you around, but you just can't fully make it all click in your head. You get tired of sitting and stand to inspect a rather abstract painting hanging on the far wall of the room.
You are midway through deciphering one of the splodges when you hear the door open. A quick check over your shoulder confirms it's Chris. His expression changes to one of smug desire so quickly that you don't really register the sour scowl present before. His smile gave you butterflies and you suddenly remember how nervous you are and try to hide the shaking that threatens to overtake you. Chris doesn't seem to notice and steps into the room, firmly clicking the door shut behind him.
"Hey there beautiful." Your eyes are drawn to his lips as he speaks and you attempt a reply, feeling as faint as the day you met.
"Hey there yourself" You smile gently, eyes widening the closer he gets to you. "How was sound check in the end?'
"Boring, as usual with added bonus boring." He replies as if his eyes aren't admiring the handiwork of his fashion sense. You laugh softly and his eyes rise to meet yours again. You are still stunned by just how blue they are in person. You'd seen Chris' eyes in many a situation and you are enthralled with how different they can look. Sometimes you see stormy seas, sometimes soft, calm ponds, but today you see mesmerising whirlpools. You just can't look away and don't even hear as he asks you a question. Eventually he notices your predicament and slowly moves closer to you, a smirk growing on his face. He brings one finger up to softly poke you between the eyes.
"You know I never found out if you set me as your screensaver again on your new phone." A quick blush from you answers that question and the dark smirk grows further. You blush further at being caught lost in his eyes, but Chris seems to find this endearing and laughs at you. He gently places his arms around your hips. "You know I really missed you today." You blink in surprise. He leans down to whisper in your ear. "Really missed you." You pull back to check for truthfulness in his face, but he seems genuine. A hesitant smile blossoms back at him.
"I missed you too." You say and his eyes dilate at your words before roaming your outfit again for a while, while your heart rate increases by the second.
"Did I mention how good that dress looks on you?" His voice is low and gives away a portion of the desire he feels. His face moves tantalising close to yours, studying your features intently before continuing. "I vote we see if it looks even better off." The enthusiastic nod seems to be automatic, you made up your mind a while ago. You are, however, taken aback by the directness of his offer, but bring your hands into Chris' hair as he begins to kiss you. Your mind feels frozen but your body is driving itself, reacting perfectly in time with the man trying to manoeuvre you toward a wall. Once he manages this, he takes his time in making his way across your face and neck until he gets inpatient and begins to wrestle with the zip on your back. By this point you are entirely beyond rational thought and hook your hands under his shirt in return. When your cold hands reach his skin he growls and practically throws you onto the corner sofa.
***
Checking the time hadn't been Chris' first priority. You are biting gently on his lips, sat on his stomach with your hands in his hair. The next thing you know he has let out a shout and has slipped out from under you, manically throwing on clothes from a rail that you had previously knocked over. He doesn't say a word, just leaves with your lipstick still covering him and his hair directly giving away his previous activities.
"Chris!" You shout after him as the door slams behind him, the feeling of the lazy kisses from just moments before a ghost on your lips. You look around the dressing room, your clothes are scattered across the floor along with his. You're alone.
You sigh as you get up and make yourself decent again. You note that the zip is slightly torn thanks to Chris's rough treatment in his impatience. Despite how truly amazing the last fifteen minutes of your life was you feel somewhat used and dejected. What if you weren't good? What if you were bad? You don’t want to leave the room and watch the show, instead your mind takes you into a spiral of worry for hours until the door clicks open and Chris walks in looking guilty... and sweaty.
"Y/N I'm so sorry!!" He rushes over but stops short of where you're sitting, as if he doesn't know how to handle this. You get up to aid the poor man. The look on his face dispels any doubts you hold for now.
"It's okay, Chris." You smile, putting your arms around him and looking up. "It wasn't your fault." You murmur quietly as he brings his mouth down onto yours as if picking up where he left off. He pushes you back against the wall and you nibble his lip like you were before he left. You barely hear the footsteps getting closer. His hands move from your shoulders to your back, from your back to your waist and from your waist they move downwards agonisingly slowly, sending your delirious mind into a frenzy, your hands gripping his golden curls just a little tighter by the second. Footsteps draw closer and you're dangerously close to being undressed again when a knock on the door stops Chris in his tracks.
"Chris c'mon we've gotta go!" Guy's voice sounds from behind the wall, "Will's gettin' pissy enough as it is!"
"I'll be right out." Chris calls back and you hear the footsteps begin to fade.
"You know, I haven't seen Guy since I got back." You smile and move towards the door, figuring you should probably thank him for the bass lessons - even if you are terrible.
"Where're you going?" Chris's eyes widen in panic and he quickly moved in front of you to block the door.
"To say hi?" You shrug as if it's obvious.
"You can't right now." He demands childishly.
"Why?"
Realising his mistake his face changes to the lustful smirk he had on before. "Because I want you all to myself." He purrs, moving towards you and positioning his hands hands low on your hips. You roll your eyes and kiss him quickly and deeply before pushing him gently away.
"Chris we need to be more careful." You murmur, not really wanting to stop what you're doing but knowing that if Guy had walked in it would've caused all sorts of mess for everyone.
"I know, baby we will. Let's get back to the hotel, yeah?"
