thinking bout spooktober

its funny how about this time last year i was in rehab and during my stint in the "Detox" rooms with a rommate dude was like "yeah i love horror shit"

so, as i sweated out tons of fucking opioids, amphetamines benzos and other shit i just binge watched shit like the mandella catalogue and gemini home entertainment and dudes idea of horror was like the popes excorcist which i fucking nodded out too (sober and withdrawling) yet the fucking weird ass screaming in my analoge horror videos was keeping my rooomate awake and sweating while i cozied the fuck up and slept thru in the best way (+3rd viewing of each series)

i just find it funny how theres different level of horror enthusiasts like people who are usually the ones with the michael myers shirts and socks cant handle anything truly fucking creepy and menancing and existentially dreadful; that shit is usually like too much for even some yet i find it way too cozey.

Does it pass the Bechdel test? Yes

Basic Plot:

An adaption of renowned Catholic excorcist Gabriel Amorth’s memoirs.

Overall Thoughts:

The Pope’s Exorcist is an average horror film that stretches belief. Although this film is based on Father Gabriel Amorth’s experiences, the supernatural elements in the story are greatly exaggerated. The acting, special effects and costuming are the best parts of the film. However, the biggest problem of The Pope’s exorcist is that it whitewashes some of the Catholic Church’s greatest crimes against humanity (minor spoilers ahead). The film claims that a demon-possessed priest was responsible for orchestrating the Spanish Inquisition, where many people considered heretics by the Catholic Church were tortured, executed or expelled from Spain. This claim about the Spanish Inquisition is problematic since it tries to absolve the Catholic Church and the Spanish Monarchy from accountability. Overall, The Pope’s Exorcist is mid-level thrill.

Overall rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

1. What is your favourite movie?

Hard to choose. really. The one I keep coming back to is Pride (2014), and there are the fandom movies, obviously. Lotr, Inception, Les Mis, Silence of the Lambs... Edgar Wright is also always amazing to watch.

2. What was the last thing you read?

A Treasury of Irish Fairy and Folk Tales. I mostly bought the book because it’s sooo pretty, but I’m really enjoying it! 

3. If you could go to one place in the world, where would it be? Why?

I’d love to see fireworks from above (maybe a tall mountain, or a space station, I’m not picky) on a clear night! 

4. What’s your favourite outfit?

Pretty much this, really. My poncho is grey-black, though

5. Best quote you’ve ever heard/read/or whatever.

Changes regularly, but everything Combeferre says in Les Mis, ever, is a good bet. 

6. Playstation, Xbox, PC, or something else?

I’m not really a gamer? *ducks head* I’ve stayed away on purpose, because I don’t need another thing I can obsess over. But probably PC. 

7. What’s your favourite season (Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring)? Why?

Spring, despite my allergies. Watching the nature wake up and start to bloom is something I’ll never get sick of watching. The first time you’re outside and the sun shines on your face and you’re feeling warm is so so lovely. 

8. What’s a tv series you’d recommend everyone should watch?

Hannibal will forever have a special place in my heart, it’s so fantastic. But right now, I’d say The Excorcist. It’s amazing, got gay priests and some really good representation. It’s great! 

9. Have you ever done something crazy to your hair?

No, the most I’ve done with it is highlights. I’m boring that way

10. Do you have tattoos?

Also, no! But I do plan to get a Fibonacci spiral somewhere on my back. 

11. Who is someone you admire? Why?

It might sound terribly cheesy, but my great-grandmother! She had such a hard life, you could say she had a super-villain backstory, but she was such a good, gentle and cheerful woman. One time she travelled to Rome, and blessed the fucking pope, because the guards were too slow to stop her. There might be a book about her in works, I spoke to an American writer at her funeral. She deserves it! And so much more.
