I think one of my favorite DnD Things is when random rolls become retroactive Lore/Quirks for the character. Not even as a DM ruling, I mean something the whole table adopts organically, whether seriously or as a running joke.

A paladin I DMd for failing every single perception roll turned into him canonically needing glasses and not realizing it.

A combination of failed perception checks and concentration saves becoming a character having ADHD and that getting worked into the acting.

My gnome barbarian with low intimidation rolls despite doing/saying some actually terrifying things suddenly having a voice that cracks like the "WHEN WILL YOU LEARN?! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN?! THAT YOUR ACTIONS!! HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!" kid when he shouts.

Or my favorite, my tabaxi artificer, Gus, comedically failing every religion check when it comes to praying so now it's a whole plot point that gods literally do not perceive him.

Why I Dislike Fanon Oikawa

Ok, soooooooo

I have only been in the Haikyuu fandom since...late July, after the manga ended. I’m a bit of a late bloomer. Anyways...

Ever since Oikawa crosses my screen, I was ENAMORED with him. Like, what a beautiful boy!! And his dub voice just does things to me. And his attitude is spectacular. How could anyone hate him? And as the show went on, I love him even more. He was a pretty boy with a lot of baggage, and who doesn’t love that?

I never understood the hate about him, because come on, I’m pretty sure most of us have been worse than him, and honestly, people need to grow up, but THAT’S FOR ANOTHER TIME.

So, after watching Haikyuu, I did the typical fan things: rewatched the show, rewatched the show, made other people watch and love the show, got others into the Yagami Yato because of the show, although for me it was the other way around oops.

I managed to reach Haikyuu Tok, which was fantastic! The edits, the funny skits, the fanart, everything was MWAH CHEF’S KISS.

And at first I thought a few of the Oikawa jokes were funny -- the flat ass (which now he’s thicc so shut up about that lol, fucking Tendou’s ass caves in, I don’t want to hear it), the “Iwa-chan” obsession (which I mean, yeah, but hold this thought).

Then I got slightly annoyed by other things that were attached to Oikawa. And then my friends kind of hopped on to these, because they don’t like Oikawa, even though I have tried oh so hard to convince them that he’s not that bad of a person, like his personality and words are OBVIOUSLY -- no, no, that’s for another time. @oikawa-obvs�� also has a great analysis on why you should grow up and not hate Oikawa so there.

No, what really bothered me is what the fandom did to Oikawa. Fanon Oikawa started to bug me, for several reasons. And I will list and explain some of the things that bug me that people seem to take seriously about fanon Oikawa and apply it to canon Oikawa.

1. Oikawa the Crybaby

So like, the fandom makes Oikawa out to be a big whiny crybaby who can’t do anything without Iwaizumi. I’ll be addressing the first half here, because I want to save my Iwaizumi topic for a little later. 

So, we see Oikawa cry several times in the show, and we see him have his most heartbreaking cry in the 3rd movie, one that makes me cry everytime.

But I don’t see why this makes him a crybaby. Like, other characters have cried, yet we don’t think of them as crybabies. 

His emotions were too much for him, as it can be for a lot of us. I wish people would realize that him expressing his emotions in a physical way is not a bad thing. 

And this leads to my next point...

2. Oikawa’s Weak (kind of hard to explain, keep reading)

I don’t mean physically weak (I mean his fucking serves are so hot--I MEAN HARD *cough*).

This is also kind of hard to explain. People pick on his character for his personality.

When we first meet Oikawa, his personality is loud, smug, a bit childish, etc. (Honestly, I kind of liked that, for some reason it was super interesting to me)

But I just want to draw your attention to the fact that a weak person would not:

- be able to lead a team so cohesively as he does

- be a strong presence on the team 

- take responsibility for the team

- stay true to his goals

- be able to be loyal to his friends

I could go on. 

3. Oikawa is clingy (to Iwaizumi)

 Iwaizumi and Oikawa are really close best friends, and have been since elementary school. Naturally, the two are pretty much in sync and know each other really well.

However, Oikawa is not solely dependent on Iwaizumi. I have seen posts where people would joke and say “Oh, Oikawa would have gone to Shiratorizawa if Iwaizumi went.” One of my friends sent me a meme like that and said “SO TRUE” and I was like “MMMMMM BUT NO YOU’RE WRONG.”

I don’t know if it is just me and my absolute need to be independent being projected onto my favorite characters, but Oikawa is not tied to Iwaizumi. Oikawa is definitely loyal, and so is Iwaizumi. They do see each other as partners, but even they realize that their paths are not meant to be joined forever. 

I am really close with my best friend/s, and they mean the world to me. We joke and talk and we have each others’ backs, even when separated doing our own thing. We will be pretend clingy, but that’s just what friends do.

I guess this is a subset to the Oikawa is weak, but I feel like this needed its own explanation and analysis (sorry, it kind of sucks so far).

4. Oikawa is a playboy

Ok, so my main source for Oikawa’s character is the anime. I haven’t gotten far in the manga to know more.

But honestly, from my multiple viewings of the anime, Oikawa is very kind and considerate to his fangirls, but he doesn’t seem flirty.

Oikawa had a girlfriend (who somehow broke up with him because of volleyball. I sympathize and don’t at the same time, but that’s for a different topic?).

I know that there is a story where he kind of tries to flirt with some girls when he gets his glasses, but he kind of goofed on that. And yes, he knows he’s good looking, but he hasn’t really used his good looks to take advantage of people, especially his fangirls. 

I also find it hard to believe that Oikawa, who has a much older sister, would dare to toy with women’s hearts without getting his shit rocked by said older sister. Also, I feel like Oikawa cares about setting a good example to his nephew Takeru, and being a playboy isn’t what Oikawa would want to project on his nephew.

I think Oikawa gets judged to be a playboy because he is attractive (which how can anyone not find him attractive. Furudate made a powerful character when even the Oikawa haters find him attractive.)

I just want people to recognize that canon Oikawa is actually a deeply loyal, nuanced character, and he’s not what fanon Oikawa appears to be. He is one of, if not, the most hard-working individuals. He is driven, ambitious, independent, focused, and extremely insightful. 

He was a kid who loved volleyball, then became absolutely in love with the sport when he sees his idol, Jose Blanco, and decided that he wanted to be the best setter. That comes with an immense pressure from within, which can cause a lot of stress on a young individual. He practiced and perfected the craft, doing what he can to measure up to the talented and the genius players of his age. He just happened to be given “The Curse of the Ordinary.”

It’s amazing that he has managed to become one of the best players that is feared and revered by peers. He is special, not due to his talent, but due to his perseverance and dedication. 

And I don’t think people should lose that in the fanon. I get it as a joke, but some people seem to confused the fanon with the canon.

so a friend of mine just started on the mcyt fandom and isn’t that familiar with the lore and i’ve been helping him catch up and we both watched sad-ist’s newest animation and he didn’t understand but still loved it nontheless and i procastinated and didn’t want to do my school work so i made him like timestamps for the animation explaining what’s happening and what’s the context in each scene it’s under the cut and if there are any mistakes pls tell me so i can change it to the correct information pr any info that can be added/any that i missed (also he already knows the charas and a few bits of lore so there’s no explanation on who’s who)

has so much shit 1:21 -1:30 is the bunker with the stuff needed in a fight, each chest is filled with stacks of one item ex. one chest is full with strength pots and the other with flaming arrows 1:30-1:31 shows techno saying the most iconic line, and also shows how his chara is an anarchist (someone who doesnt like any form of government) sadist seems to like remind people that hes basically chaotic in this scene 1:31-1:32 shows pogtopia getting the loot with an easter egg of tubbo taking all the emeralds of a chest (he actually did this on stream so kudos to sadist for that little detail) 1:37 techno actually gives a powerful enchanted sword to tommy personally and then the awesomme af transition of to tommy leading the pogtopia to kill schlatt 1:42 shows dream preparing 1:43-1:47 shows the all three parties, the first is lmanburg (maburg) party with schlatt and dream takig charge, second being the pogtopia party and if u noticed wilbur is the only one not happy and the only one without armor because at this point he became insane and want to blow up lmanburg but people do not know, the lastly the neutral party which showcases badboyhalo talking about that it doesnt really matter with flames in the bg (i think this references to the egg which is seen later in the future but at this point in time the weird egg is just starting to grow with bbh tending to it which made him go crazy up until the whole skeppy thing (skepp is bbh's best friend so yea)) 1:48 is the buttonn to blow up lmanburg but wilbur hasnt pushed it yet cuz he is still trying to figjt the urge to push it 1:49-1:53 wilbur is losing his mind and is on the verge of destroying everything with his black wings showing to represent his dad which shows up on the next scene 1:54-1:55 phil shows up and wibur doesnt know what to with his dad confronting him and knowing that phil wouldnt approve and would try to stop him 1:57 shows the bridge where pogtopia is running through to get to schlatt and it's iconic due to the fact of the coinicidence it being a sunset 2:00 is the start of the fight with an explosion then the fight sequence between pogtopia and lmanburg happen to get to to schlatt 2:10 happens and u see schlatt on the ground at this point in time hes an alcholic and hes drunk and surroounded by once friends turned enemy due to his tyranny 2:18 fundy explains why he joined pogtopia to schlatt 2:22 schlatt dies losing his last canon life due to a heart attack, tbh im suprised on how sad-ist made this so serious but in teh streams he dies while saying to quackity that his ass his flat or i quote "flatty patty" 2:23 tubbo is made the new president by wilbur 2:24 everyone rejoices but technoblade cuz he joined and helped pogtopia becauase he thought that after they won there would be no more governemnt 2:25-2:45 the act of terrorism of technoblade starts with him explaining his beliefs as an anarchist, he threatens tubbo which is serious because tubbo has only one last canon life left and tommy goes to fight him to save tubbo 2:45 pogtopia fights technoblade 2:47 we go back to wilbur where the button is that will start all the tnt hidden underneath lmanburg 2:48 the fight is still going on outside and people are unaware of what wilbur is going to do 2:51 wilbur quotes the first ever traitor: eret saying "it was never meant to be" and phil is shocked and doesnt do anything to stop wilbur from hitting the button 3:02 he couldnt stop wilbur pressing the button which in turn explodes everything even half the room but phil was able to protect wilbur from the blast 3:04-3:05 teh explosion happens and disrupts the fight between techno and pogtopia 3:06 tommy's closup to his reaction of seeing the land he fought for blowing up 3:07-3:09 wilbur hands philza his sword and says to kill him but phil refuses saying that he cant kill his own son 3:11 the other;s reaction seeing phil and wilbur in the room after the explosion dies down 3:12 tubbo is in shock 3:13  dream is watching in triumph as he sees wilbur blow everything up 3:15 techno prepares the withers //also fun fact when phil killed will he finds out techno is the traitor they were warned about who will bring destruction and chaos during the earlier stages of the revolution, it isnt wilbur as he exploded everything on his own volition rather than teaming up with dream like what techno did 3:16 techno's speech starts alluding to a previous conversation he had with tommy where he warns tommy that being a hero will result in a gruesome death 3:18-3:20 different scenes pop up, the first being tommy's discs being held by someone with armor (i think its dream due to the fact he has the discs later in the timeline to threaten tommy and lmanburg), the second being someone in a lmanburg uniform (not sure if its tommy or tubbo but if its tommy it seems like it'sthe exile), 3rd is the throne room with george on the throne and dream and callahan at his side , then last is the scene of the newest members, captain puffy, connor, and ranboo joining with emphasis on ranboo as he is  important to the plot later on the sequence also shows phil holding a now deceased wilbur crying and then techno realeses the withers on everyone (withers are very difficult to kill and cause so mch chaos even if its alone and its hard to summon it as you have to farm for wither skulls which is also hard so the fact techno has enough to make two is a big deal) 3:27  shows the lmanburg tree, it is a tree that represents lmanburg and has been there for both wars and is extremely important to the history of the nation and thats that :3

This place is dead.” Red groaned as he started to shine the glasses behind the bar for the third time, “You don’t really need me here, yeah?” Zen sighed loudly, “I honestly would let you, but since it is an easy night, I need to try to catch up on some paperwork. Keep an eye out while I’m in the office?”

Red mumbled an ‘okay’ and walked out from behind the bar, deciding to go chat with a few customers at the tables.

Duckie looked up from the books and papers that he had sprawled in front of him, waving to Zen, “Hey, could I get a beer before you leave?” “Sure thing, bud. Why are you studying here anyway?” Zen asked as he poured the drink, “Wouldn’t you be able to focus more at home?” “Well, I have a test tomorrow and I don’t want to get distracted by my games. Plus, it’s pretty quiet here so I can study just fine!” Zen furrowed his brow as he slid the glass towards the blonde, “Everyone keeps reminding me that it’s slow today. It will pick up in a few hours! The night is still young.” “Let’s hope so. I could be working on an essay right now,” Sunny yawned as she had set herself the task to neatly fold all the napkins, “I hate boring nights like these.”

Jingle~! “Good evening, everyone.”

“Sugar!” He raised a brow, looking around at the nearly empty space, “One of those nights?”

“Gahh!” Zen exclaimed, throwing his towel into the air, “I’ll be in the office.” Sugar sat at the bar, watching Zen storm off, “And why is he in a mood?” “He’s being sensitive about the lack of customers. Maybe he’s just getting the itch, eh? I read that people going through recovery can have anxious moments.” Red replied as he came back around to serve Sugar wine, “He’ll be fine.” They both turned when they heard Zen yell something intangible, a sleepy looking Cannon being pushed out the door. He rubbed his eyes, making his way towards the bar top, “Man, he can really kill a good nap.” “Perhaps you shouldn’t be sleeping while on the clock.” Sugar said flatly, sipping at his wine, “I wouldn’t be so thrilled either.” “It’s not like I’m needed out here. Sunny can handle two tables.” Cannon sneered. “And me!” Duckie said excitedly, “I’m here too!”

“You don’t count, dumb ass. You could probably just fill your own glass of beer.” Cannon rolled his eyes, “I meant real customers.”

“Hey, he is a real customer! Don’t give Duckie a hard time!” Sunny chimed in, frowning as she put her arm around Duckie’s shoulders, “Cut him some slack, eh?” Cannon pursed his lips, shrugging, “Whatever.”

Sugar chuckled, “My my...aren’t we submissive today?”

“Shut up! What’s the point in arguing with her, anyway? She’s usually right!” Cannon retorted, crossing his arms. Sunny’s eyes lit up, “You think so? That’s so sweet of you to say!” She moved towards him and put a hand on his shoulder, “See how easy it is to be nice?” “It’s easy to be nice to you…” Cannon muttered under his breath. Sugar’s eyes snapped towards him, smirking as he finally understood what was going on, “Hmm...anyways, I wonder where Clicks is. We were suppose to go to a gallery opening tonight. It’s not like him to be late.” “With Goldie being on a rampage? I would guess he got caught trying to pry her off of him.” Red said, refilling Sugar’s glass, “Of all people, you know how she gets.” Sugar rubbed at his temples as a slight irritation started to cross him, “Don’t remind me. I want to have a relaxing night tonight.” Duckie cleared his throat, frowning at both of them, “Hey, I’m right here, you know.” “I am aware, Duckie. I would assume you would recognize that she acts inappropriately with Clicks. There is no excuse for how she treats him at times.” Duckie let out a sigh, “I know she can do weird things when she’s stressed, but it doesn’t mean that I like when you guys talk so badly about her. She’s my cousin, after all. And she’s done a lot for me! It’s okay if you don’t like her, but could you guys could not be so mean when I’m around?”

“Let’s talk about something else, then!” Sunny clapped her hands, “We could play a game! How about charades? That's a fun one!”

Cannon rolled his eyes once more, “That is the dumbest game. Why do you just want to look like a fool in front of everyone?”

Sunny swatted Cannon away, “Oh shush. Okay, I'll go first!” she stepped back, facing Duckie. She held up three fingers.

“Three words!” Duckie exclaimed excitedly as he played along with her.

She nodded, holding her hand out flat. With her other hand she began making a scooping motion.

“Digging? Rowing? You're rowing a boat?”

She shook her head, then making the scooping motion towards her mouth. Her lips opened wide to accentuate the chewing process, her head bobbing up and down.

“Uhh, dancing? Head bobbing to a beat?”

She let out a frustrated sigh and shook her head once more. She held up two fingers, pointing to them.

“Second word?”

She nodded happily, wrapping her arms around her chest. Rubbing her arms up and down her biceps, she shivered violently.

“You're having a seizure.” Sugar scoffed as he interjected. Sunny turned towards him and frowned, “No!” whirling back towards Duckie, she started shivering again.

“Cold? Freezing?”

She nodded, moving her hands for him to continue with that train of thought.

“Mmm...ice? Snow?”

“Yes!” She shouted, but pursed her lips as she was supposed to be silent. She held up three fingers then.

“Third word!”

Sunny held her arms out, curling her hands into a cylindrical shape. She pretended to squeeze a bit, using one hand to motion something coming out and spraying into her face.

Zen had come out of his office then to witness this, freezing in place as he saw her gestures. Cannon had a hand covering as much of his flushed face as possible.

“A water hose spraying you in the face…?” Duckie guessed.

“That's what some would call it, I suppose.” Sugar mused as he took great enjoyment at how the rest of them were interpreting her.

“Ugh!” Sunny dropped her hands, thinking of how else she could do it. She perked, holding her hand out once more as if she were gripping something. She licked the air, eyes lighting up as if she were enjoying a treat. She faked a frown, making gestures as if something were dripping. Dropping her head, she again licked the air as if she were lapping up whatever was falling.

“Sunny!” Zen exclaimed, his own cheeks starting to turn bright pink.

“What?” She asked when she turned to him, “We’re playing charades!”

“What were you acting out?” Cannon squeaked, the color of his face almost matching his hair color.

Sugar cleared his throat, “Eating ice cream.”

“Yeah!” Sunny cheered, “He got it!”

“That's one lucky ice cream…” Zen muttered under his breath.

“Huh?” She wanted to question him more but noticed a table of hers waving he over, “Oh, I'll be right back! You guys decide who's next!”

Once she walked off, Cannon squirmed and quickly made his way out from the bar, “I need to use the bathroom.”

“Shit, I might have to as well.” Zen replied, rubbing the back of his neck, “How clueless can she be?”

“Perhaps you are just too perverted? It was obvious what she was doing and knowing how innocent she is, you shouldn't have let your mind fall to the gutter,” Sugar responded as he pushed his empty glass towards the edge.

Zen went to refill the glass but Sugar refused, “I won't be here for long. Clicks should be here any moment. You haven't heard from him, have you?”

“Not today. I know you two had a date tonight but you're old enough to not need a chaperone on your ass.” Zen replied as he took the glass to the sink, “Where are you guys going again?”

“A friend of his is debuting their art in a gallery tonight and he asked me to join him. You're still invited if you'd like to come. A three way date would be more fun than this place tonight.”

Zen scrunched his nose in distaste, “No thanks. That's not my thing. A lot of people talking about subjects I don't know and being expected to act high class. There's a reason why I own a bar,” He held his arms out to the tables, “This is my crowd.”

“It's a small crowd you surround yourself with,” Sugar joked, “Anyhow, the offer is still open. If he ever shows up, that is.” He checked his wristwatch before glancing at his phone, “If he is being held up by that blasted woman, it won't be a pleasant night from him.”

Sunny came back around, pointing to Duckie, “since you lost you have to act! Watch out, I'm really good at guessing!”

Duckie let out a sigh and stood up, “Okay, but I'm not that great. I'll give it a try!”

A few hours passed and Sunny had managed to get everyone in on the game, yet all Sugar could do was constantly look at his phone. He slowly became more angry as the time went by, fully convinced that he was stood up due to Goldie.

“The nerve of him!” Sugar exclaimed loudly, the entire staff jumping at his voice, “I am this close to going to his apartment and dragging him out to the street by his neck!”

“Calm down, Sugar. He probably has a good excuse. Or at least...a reason.” Zen chirped as he filled a glass of wine and handed it over, “Just relax!”

“How can I relax when-” Sugar was cut off as his phone rang. Seeing Clicks’ name on the screen he picked it up promptly, “Where the hell are you? I've been waiting at Eros for hours.” He answered sternly. His eyebrow twitched as the familiar female voice spoke on the other line. “What? You have to make his phone calls for him now as well?”

All color drained from the man’s face as Goldie hysterically spoke. “An accident? How...what hospital did they take him to? I’ll be there soon.”

At the mention of hospitals, Zen immediately slid over towards Sugar, “What's going on?”

Sugar downed the entire glass of wine that Zen had previously set in front of him, “I don't know the details but Clicks was rushed to the hospital. I need to go.”

Zen ripped his apron off, “I’m coming too. Close up for me tonight, would yah?” He asked as he waved to Red.

Red nodded, “Sure thing boss. Everything okay?”

“I hope so,” Sugar answered, “Let’s go, Zen. I don’t want to waste anymore time.”

Once they were in Jumin’s car, Zen looked over at him, “Things will be okay, you know.”

Jumin massaged at his temples, “I was so filled with rage, I didn't even think that anything bad would have happened.”

“It’s a natural reaction. Rika has been worse these past few weeks so of course you think she was the reason for him to be late. Don't beat yourself up, okay? At least she had the decency to call you. Maybe she does recognize that you are important in his life?”

“Mmmm. Perhaps. Remind me to thank her when we get there.”

Zen laughed, “You? Thank her? That will be a sight to see. Would you like me to record it as well? When you're old and gray, you'll want to remember when you showed mercy to an otherwise terrible human being.”

Jumin turned to glare at Zen, “Don’t push your luck. I'm not in the mood.”

“There’s my princess, in all of her glory. Just keeping you on your toes.”

“Tch.” Jumin looked out the window of the car, every worry now clouding his mind as they made their way to the hospital.
