15. struggling to get ready for bed together while tipsy | moodboard

“C’mon, at least put on some moisturiser. Or you’re gonna complain about the dry patch between your eyebrows in the morning–”

“I don’t have a dry patch between my eyebrows!”

“Oh yeah? What’s this then?” Touya jabs an accusatory finger at the aforementioned spot, literally rubbing it in for good measure. A mischievous half-smile blooms across his face at the way you scowl back at him angrily, pushing his wrist away from you.

“You’re terrible,” you mutter under your breath.

“I am.”

“I hate you.”

“Sure you do.”

“Go away!” you whine, but swipe at the little orange tube of cream sitting on your sink anyway (twice – because your vision blurred and you missed the first time). While unscrewing the cap clumsily, you don’t fail to see the way your boyfriend sniggers at you from behind his hand.

It’s been a long night. What started out as a bit of light drinking during dinner soon turned into a drinking competition while you and Touya marathoned a trashy dating game show that was strangely addictive to watch.

The conversation that happened between the both of you before starting the show didn’t even make sense, and the two of you were still blisteringly sober at that point in time – which says a lot about how bored you two were on this Saturday night.

“This show is the epitome of trashy reality TV, so we gotta drink while watching it,” Touya had explained while ferrying the unfinished wine bottle over to the couch after dinner. 

“Why are we watching it if it’s bad?” you frowned.

“We’re watching it because it’s bad. Now get over here.” 

So here you are, eight episodes and a lot of wine later, struggling with your skincare routine that was a lot longer than Touya’s (whose routine consists of washing his face and pretty much nothing else), while he flitters around you unhelpfully.

You dab the translucent gel onto your face, nearly getting some in your eye while aiming for your left cheek. Meanwhile, your boyfriend has manoeuvred himself behind you to wrap you in a tired hug. He’s swaying unstably on his feet – the aftereffects of alcohol and staying up late hitting him hard now – but his grip is tight, almost koala-like, and you delight in his quiet affection that he otherwise doesn’t show freely.

Turns out, putting on moisturiser took much more effort than you expected, having used up the last of your strength in squeezing whatever you could from the tube (looks like a visit to the drugstore was long overdue), and having Touya put his entire body weight on you really didn’t help your tired arms. You huff, arms dropping to your sides as if they were filled with lead, and seriously contemplated just going to bed like this, with moisturiser streaked across your skin carelessly. Behind you, Touya perks up ever so slightly.

“Tired?” he mumbles into your neck, lips tickling the sensitive skin there.

“Yeah.”

“C’mere.”

He spins you around ungracefully. If not for his hands pinning your hips to the cold marble counter, you would’ve lost your balance by now. But you didn’t, and Touya reaches for the tube once more, piping the tiniest bead of cream onto his fingertip and massaging it into the skin between your eyebrows. Then he traces his finger down to your nose, the gesture inciting a wave of sleepiness that crashes over you smoothly. 

He’s a little rough, pressing hard on your nose bridge while his free hand cups your chin to keep you still. But you know it’s not on purpose. Touya just doesn’t know his strength. The way he pats the product into your skin – slow and clumsy, but focused and tenderhearted – is just like how he shows his affection towards you, and that realisation makes you smile.

Even with your eyes half-closed, teetering on the precipice of sleep now, you don’t miss the way he mirrors your smile fondly. And you think there’s no other place you’d rather be than here: dozing off against your bathroom sink while your equally tired and equally drunk boyfriend rubs lemon-scented moisturiser onto your cheeks.

He pats your face after he’s done and the gesture wakes you up. Heavy with exhaustion from the long night you’ve had so far, your eyelids flutter open fully to zero in on Touya’s bright blue eyes – rimmed with fatigue like yours, but dripping with utter adoration that makes your heart quiver.

“Look at 'chu,” he whispers, thumbs sweeping over your cheekbones delicately. “So pretty when you’re not behaving like a little gremlin.”  You catch the sight of a faint blush dusting his nose bridge before he breaks the moment to squish your cheeks together unceremoniously. “Alright. Bedtime.”

“Thanks, Touya,” you mumble, far too gone to fight back on his backhanded compliment, and let him lead you out of the bathroom.

The pair of you collapse into bed. The past eight hours of fun – sharing wine from the bottle and cuddling up to Touya, making fun of D-list influencers, bantering in the bathroom – all quietened down to this tender moment that sits between song and sleep. 

You curl yourself into him, relishing in the warmth of his chest and the steady hum of his heartbeat. “Thanks for taking care of me, Touya.”

Silence. He must have fallen asleep. So you shut your eyes and follow suit.

1. This bitch Fuyumi I cannot stand. I’ll go back to wearing khakis and blue shoes if that mean I get to beat this bitch ass, abuse enabler ass bitch lace up your shoes PERIOD!!

2. Idc ima say this… low-key hated reader-chan for fucking Touya right after he ODed, it jus kinda felt a lil räpëy considering the whole situation but that might just be how I see it, idk.

1. fair, and i understand where your feelings stem from. my version of fuyumi in this pulls heavily from canon fuyumi and her extreme desperation to try and rebuild or repair her family. in the manga/anime, she is by far the one who tries the most to readily forgive enji for his actions once he attempts to atone for them. (personally, i think canon!shouto's attitude towards him raises some interesting questions/points in the sense that: in canon it's really difficult to tell if enji's only now decided to try and atone for his sins because he's finally gotten what HE wants (to be #1) and either now has more time to care about what he's done to his family (like oh, now that i've gotten what *i* want i can focus on what i did to you) and/or only wishes to patch things up to preserve his own image OR if he's actually realizing just how fucking terrible of a human being he has been for 16+ years to his ENTIRE FAMILY and feels legitimate guilt and wants to atone not to make himself feel better or look better but because it is the ACTUAL right thing to do. irregardless of any of this, though, i harbor an extremely strong dislike for enji as a character for personal reasons lmao). fuyumi in my piece was definitely supposed to make you feel strongly, though, since we (as the real readers) are on touya's side and are always seeing things through his pov/reader's pov. i wanted my readers to feel and experience the emotion he was experiencing in that instance; all of the fear and anger and panic and sadness, all at once, all very overwhelmingly.

2. also fair! it wasn't exactly meant to feel rapey but it was meant to feel extremely selfish, because she is, and they are, and sex/physical affection is their primary means of communicating and calming each other down during moments of extremely intense emotion (especially since touya doesn't know HOW to communicate in any other way, especially when he's feeling vulnerable). if it makes you feel any better, though, touya could've said no, and would have said no had he not felt up to it, and reader would've instantly respected him, because all she ever ever ever wants to be is his good little girl who serves him, submits to him, and never ever disobeys him. for touya in this scene, he doesn't really know what to say or how to say it, and even after he clears his mind with sex he still struggles to express himself, too. BUT YEAH that second sex scene was supposed to make you go dude, what the fuck because it is really messed up and twisted; because they are really messed up and twisted, and (like literally all of my work) it was purposefully romanticized to enable you as the real reader to view it through the characters' distorted rose coloured lens full of sick 'love' (obsession, infatuation, idolization) and extreme dependency, in addition to your ability to take a step back and view the situation objectively from the outside; twofold!!
