Mouthwashing really nails the dysfunction in every single dynamic between the characters, especially when it comes to Jimmy-- our most problematic guy. His relationships with Curly and Anya are the cornerstone of the story and are therefore the ones we focus on more (to varying degrees of faithfulness to the characters *cough*). However, I feel like despite its significance for the story and the further context and characterisation it provides, his relationship with Daisuke feels very, very underrated in comparison to the rest.

#mouthwashing #mouthwashing game #jimmy mouthwashing #daisuke mouthwashing #the most under acknowledged part of their dynamic is the fact that they're lowkey friends #and that jimmy actually LIKES daisuke and is shown to look out for him multiple times throughout the game #you'd think that'd be explored more but i mostly see people reducing jimmy's feelings to just hating him and seeing him as a spoiled kid #when like. no he doesn’t?? jimmy thinks better of daisuke post crash than swansea and anya (and i'm not touching on curly rip)#and he's the only one where jimmy consistently checks on to make sure he's ok?? the only one where jimmy actually tries to interact better?#the only person where he tries to keep his spirits up and reassure him that it'll be alright despite not believing it himself??? Y'ALL????#the feelings are reciprocated too. daisuke clearly trusts and respects jimmy and is as desperate for his validation as he is for swansea's #and that's sooo important cuz it gives another reason why anya never told him about what jimmy had done to her and went to swansea instead #and while daisuke isn't stupid he's a lot blinder to jimmy's more shitty behaviour as a result of their more positive relationship #remember how he thought anya would feel relieved after he said he brought jimmy to save her? it's not at all malicious but it's ignorant #and it shows why jimmy could get away with what he had done as easily as he did #because jimmy is generally a pretty normal guy. he's kinda grouchy but he's shown to be more or less mundane pre crash #he's able to help curly put his struggle into words. he helps set up and participates in silly things for curly's birthdays--#and expresses that he actually looks forward to throwing these corny parties. he banters with and humours his crewmates just because #and post crash we see him capable of concern and consideration and regret when it comes to daisuke in the midst of all his horribleness #jimmy CAN be a good guy with no strings attached to the men around him and that's what allows him the benefit of a doubt in their eyes #jimmy's so much more than just a monster. he can be a good friend capable of consideration and affection and understanding and intimacy #curly and jimmy are best friends for a reason. it's why curly loved him enough to abuse his position and cover for him at anya's expense #and it's why daisuke likely wouldn't be able to truly process him being a rapist and a bad person due to all the good he's shown him #his and daisuke's relationship really drives home those important components of the story in a way i don't see discussed enough #this has been itching at me for months now they're dynamic means so much to me #it is CRIMINALLY underrated and i know that it's because of jimmy character assassination but man it's a bloody shame #also i need to stop making the tags longer than the actual post lmao #momento rambles
