Robin!Jason Todd tried secretly listening to an audiobook one night because crime was super slow and there was a stakeout and he had to keep an eye on everything, but it’s boring.

It worked out well, so he starts doing it more often.

Sometimes he doesn’t get the chance to turn it off or tune it out during a fight, so he then sometimes ends up reacting to the book out loud involuntarily, like saying “what?!” and “no!” in front of bad guys.

It still goes on for another couple weeks until Batman figured out what’s been going on and bans audiobooks on patrols.

Lunar Chronicles headcannon:

Thorne got a fake ID to gamble and drink when he was a teenager, and ended up joining the military with it. By the time he's a fugitive with Cinder, he forgets he told everyone the wrong age. So he's actually like 18 instead of 20 the whole time, making all of the character dynamics on the Rampion make a lot more sense (including his relationship with 16 year old Cress)

You know the line in Cress where it mentions the rumour that Cinder "seduced Emperor Kaito and was now pregnant with a Lunar-Earthen-cyborg thing"?

Imagine if Kai was just a little more unhinged. He doesn't want Cinder to get captured and killed, so at a press conference he practically pulls the Peeta Mellark 'If it weren't for the baby' line. A journalist asks, "what of the rumour that the fugitive is carrying your child?"

And Kai, with a solemn expression, says cryptically, "these are hard times for all, for a number of reasons. Even for myself."

The world explodes. The EC military are freaking out because they can't risk harming the future heir, so the worldwide hunt for Linh Cinder is thrown in for a loop. Alas, Kai doesn't know that Cinder is Selene, so by implying that she is pregnant, Levana is even more determined to kill the two heirs to the Lunar throne and hunts Cinder even more viciously.

Meanwhile Cinder is furious and mortified. Thorne teases her endlessly about it ("I am NOT pregnant! We haven't even hugged!" "You were smooching him at the ball!" "That's different!!"). When Jacin says the line, "one more fling with your toy before he becomes Levana's property", she punches him twice.

Then when they kidnap Kai, she rips into him. "You made me out to be a teen mother! Do you know embarrassing that is?!" He rebuts, "I was trying to help you!"

One successful revolution later, the public are confused why there's no mention of this 'baby'. So in an interview, Kai is asked, "so, is Queen Selene pregnant with your child or not?"

Kai bursts out laughing. "Pregnant? Wherever did you get that idea?"

"...you confirmed it in a press conference."

"I never said she was pregnant."

He straight up gaslights them into believing he never said a thing. It's hilarious. And then when Cinder and Kai are eventually married and actually pregnant, the world is scared to believe it and be tricked again.

The fact that Levana knew to glamour herself as Cinder for Kai just goes to prove what an icon Cinder really is. On top of that, Kai admitting to her face that he prefers it that way and that Cinder’s more beautiful than she could ever be. CLOCKED

LUNAR CHRONICLES BUT ON THEIR EQUIVALENT OF HOT ONES

Cinder does pretty well, excluding the creative string of swear words she comes up with. Finishes all ten wings.

Kai almost quits at 5. The only thing keeping him going is that Thorne quit at six and Kai knew that if he quit at 5 he would never hear the end of it. Gets to da bomb and then is like, Well I mine as well finish this.

Scarlet managed to finish all ten wings but is like beet red in the face. Has significant trouble answering questions

Fun fact, canines can't taste spice and neither can Wolf. Cleans his plate and drinks from da bomb bottle (cause Scarlet is watching) gives himself a stomach ache

Cress. Poor sweet cress. She ate all ten wings, crying, but she did it

Unlike Cress Thorne only got to 6. Talked some big game before hand. Will never live it down.

Winter just straight up doesn't mind the heat. Like this girl ate da bomb with a smile on her pretty little face. Bought a bottle to take with her

Jacin was stoic. So very very stoic. I mean he had the discipline to do it but he also answered in 1 to 3 word answers, also his ears turned red. Told everyone it wasn't that spicy.

Rereading the lunar chronicles has got me sad again. Jacin cut off contact with his parents just so Levana wouldn’t use them against him. He also practically cut off contact with the girl he loved and even HIS OWN EMOTIONS just so he could survive.

That being said, I need a scene Jacin reconnects with his parents and maybe even finds out he has (a) younger sibling(s). He would make the best big brother 😌.

• kai loves to surprise cinder. with coffee in bed, or with broken shit (like a med-droid) for her to fix

• cinder calls kai affectionately, “my husband and my love,” but only when they are alone

• kai loves to call her his wife constantly or his empress

• cinder still works as a mechanic while being empress

• cinder loves to wear kai’s clothes and kai always smiles when he sees her wearing them

• cinder doesn’t wear dresses to balls. i will die on this hill. cinder does not wear dresses ever. it is shown so many times that she is not comfortable in dresses and prefers pants like at the end of winter it’s stated explicitly, “do i have to wear a dress? i don't care if you wear military boots and cargo pants. i just might. good.” i feel like kai and iko would help design cinder outfits that she would be comfortable in and most of her clothes would be in the eastern commonwealth style. she'd look hot as hell

• after long days being the emperor and empress of the eastern commonwealth, they love to sit on the floor and talk

• kai loves to rub cinders feet and cinder rubs his shoulders after long days

• they are almost always touching each other and they have a quiet intimacy that is so fucking beautiful

• cinder loves to be kissed on the neck, and kai always obliges this want. often. whenever he can, he presses his lips to her neck

• they give each other love bites quite often, and the morning after they shower, they apply foundation and there is even more kissing. but they try to do it in less noticeable places

• they are always side by side when in meetings, and they treat each others as equals

• kai is very defensive when people begin asking about heirs. he literally loses his shit with the paparazzi. he waits until cinder is ready and tells her that they don’t have to have a child if she doesn’t want to

• kai loves to kiss cinder (and vice versa) whenever and wherever. in their room, the throne room, or against walls. always making sure it is okay with her first. they are really fucking in love and they kiss often, not caring who is watching.

• they always ask for consent before they kiss or have sex or before touching one another. i don’t care how long they’ve been married or together, they always ask for consent before doing anything and they wait for the other to say yes before they do it

• when they take showers together, kai loves to run his fingers in cinders hair help her with shampoo and conditioner. they almost always end up kissing while they’re together and cinder loves to kiss his collarbone and neck, it leaves kai breathless

• kai always kisses her control panel on her neck, it’s the first thing he does when he sees it for the first time

• cinder always loses her breath when she sees kai shirtless. like every. fucking. time.

• kai loves to place his hand on cinders waist and cinder loves the feel of his body against her while in bed

• whenever they don’t have morning meetings, they make good use of the time

• kai is always physically present with cinder, always a hand at her back or waist. or the brush a of a knee under the table, his fingers on her thigh. a brush of his lips on her neck or shoulder while she dresses, or a long kiss in bed when they first wake up. his brow rested on hers. he knows the neglect that she endured at hands of adri and that she never received love or comfort, so he makes sure that she is constantly being looked after including making she she’s had food

• sleepy kai is cinders favorite but thinks he is hot as hell when he is dressed in traditional eastern commonwealth clothes

• they say ‘i love you’ and kiss each other until they are breathless often

• years down the line, their love is still as strong as when they first met

• whenever one of them has to leave the palace, the bed always feels empty without them in it

Thorne knows his full name here, which means he could track down his birth records and thus parents- if he wasn't convinced there was no point, as they voluntarily submitted him to die. so.

He braids his hair in much the same way that cress wraps hers around her wrists as stress relief. I didn't find a good way to draw it, but its there.

Thorne is more unsure than in canon in this au, but he is very interested in making cool romantic moments (as opposed to Cress, who was very interested in having them but rarely tried to make them.)

he has a little Thorne! just as eager and cheerful as little cress, but a bit more utility-focused. He quickly got bored of the background work slog, even as a child, and thus programmed little thorne to take over lots of the early searching, filtering, and sourcing of the research Sybil often asks for.

the haircut cress gives him post-satellite is, admittedly, rather good for a newly blind woman.

However, if you have functioning eyes, you can probably tell that it is godawful.

Fortunately, Cress also manages to pick up an escort body for Nansi, who delights in fixing it for him.

(on that note, I think I might change up her look from Iko's even though it doesn't really make a ton of sense? mostly because I want to. Talk me out of it in the tags)

Thorne gives Cress her eyedrops and is very extra special careful about it because he doesn't wanna mess up this thing he's got going on in her direction. He's worried about her!

I made a pass at a butterfly outfit here- I confess, I'm very excited for the blue "dress"

(I may or may not let it be a dress, I think that futuristic sci fi can accommodate a man in a dress so it's really just whatever I wanna draw that day and whatever i think he looks good in)

either way, i let the butterfly sleeves instead take on a capeish feel, as I don't think the draping feel works as well on this kind of jacket. Future changes may occur!

His satellite outfit was kind of meant to give this yucky hospital gown feel, as I imagine Sybil to be rather,,,,, uninterested in the fashion of her little tool.

Here's one:

A few years after the revolution, Jacin starts medical school on Earth. That means a lot of time away from Winter, which he doesn't like, but he still has time to comm her during class and see her during the day. She stays local to his university, working with the Lunar embassy there in public relations.

They're both happy over that time. Jacin finally, finally starts to lose a bit of his grumpiness, his performative apathy, returning to the more openly emotional man she knew before he became a guard. Even their friends are surprised at this less abrasive version of him, but he still remains pleasantly snarky.

They want to get married, of course. Except he's being flogged by exams, and planning a wedding would take a lot of time and energy and he wants to give Winter the full attention and support she deserves. They agree to wait until there's a lull in his studies before that.

Then he starts his residency. He's working 12 hour shifts, with a 5 hour window for sleep, while still being on call. He gets breaks, sure, but he is flat out (Australian for busy). He sees Winter occasionally. Well, every day, but it's 5 minutes of a rushed meal and chatter and then he's off again. He hates it. She is generally frustrated by it. Still they both know it's where he should be right now, and he loves finally knowing how to help people, rather than just wishing he knew.

Six months in, Winter gets a comm while he's on a break:

Jacin: Winter, im sorry that im making you put up with this. you deserve to have the wedding that you dream of and a person who will be there for you always like i promised i would be. i dont deserve you.

Now another thing Jacin doesn't like--he isn't around to protect Winter. Sure, years have passed and she's more in control of her trauma and fears, but his peace of mind is never settled if she's not right next to him. So this residency period is hell for him. She spends a lot of time with their friends, sending him pics to assure him that she's with good company, regularly updating him on her wellbeing in what she calls 'sanity checks', a term he dislikes--"You're not insane."

So one day he's doing his final shift for the week when he receives this comm:

Winter: My darling Jacin. You mean everything to me. I need nothing more in life so long as you are in my arms, physically or in spirit. The walls bleed with you, my love, bleed water and diamonds and joy...

Walls. Bleeding?!

Jacin sprints out of the hospital. He tracks Winter's port, finding her just in the park on the next block. He's panting and stumbling when he finds her by the lake. She's donning a summery white dress, which on her rivals any vogue bride, and is holding a flower crown in her hands. She's decidedly not screaming or sobbing like the last time he saw her mention bleeding walls.

"Love?" he garbles out, racing up to her.

Winter gestures for him to slow down. Once in arm's reach, she plops the crown on his greasy, unbrushed hair and steadies his shoulders with her grip. "My darling Jacin. You mean everything to me. I need nothing more in life so long as you are in my arms, physically or in spirit," she repeats, in what is evidently a rehearsed speech.

"Bleeding walls?" he interrupts harshly.

"Hush." She pulls him into her arms. "Jacin, you are everything I deserve. I never want you to question that for a moment. Never let those clinical lights and smell of antiseptic confuse your senses into believing that I wouldn't want you, just the way you are."

There's more words spoken, from him and her, and his bewilderment and worry is still not supplanted with relief. Yes, she might assure him of this now, but he'll be back to endless shifts, and her patience will run out.

"I don't want to wait until things are calmer," she confesses, "because I love you with how things are now as much as I would at any other time." She pulls away and reaches up, adjusting his crown. "The crown has a purpose, you know. I bet you just thought I brought it because I'm crazy."

"You're not crazy."

She closes an eye. "You thought my message was crazy."

He's silent, because yes, he did.

"Once upon a time, I was a princess. So if I marry a boy, he becomes a prince. We aren't married yet, but I declare that we should make a promise first." She leans up and kisses him quickly. "There. That will suffice until the wedding. And this"--she gestures to the crown--"gives you your title."

"Title?"

"My prince. My knight and best friend. Until I change that to something else."

"Fiancé?"

"I was thinking husband."

He kisses her. Then he spends the next month in comms with his supervisor. He wrangles a 5-month break out of them, but he has to work 6 months first. During that time of work, he proposes, and now that he's more established in his residency, his hours drop. He does have time for wedding planning, and they wed the first week of that break. It's a busy few newlywed years, but it quiets down once he's out of his residency. He's still protective, yes, but he doesn't need to be by her side constantly anymore to be calm. He does not want to be known as a prince, even when Cinder and Kai joke that they'll make him one against his will.

He never protests when Winter calls him her prince.

Are we going to ignore how when Cinder got stabbed and had to undergo surgery, Kai made sure to have the best cybernetic surgeon flown to Luna to help her? I love how Kai uses his immense power and wealth for good. That’s a gentleman right there

It makes me so sad that Solstice hayles things likely didn't survive Levana. Imagine Winter finding a chest full of her mother's work. Dresses covered in trailing embroidery, exquisitely beaded and perfectly tailored. I think especially if she could fit it, that would bring her so much closure and make it feel like her mother, her real mother was still around.
