Note
do you trust American police to enforce gun laws without using a gun ban that makes millions of people who own guns of that type targets for police brutality? do you think making millions of people criminals for a crime they didn’t commit is going to make anyone safer? there are hundreds of millions of guns in the US and likely at least 20 million AK/AR owners, do you think it is ethical to make that many people criminals?
Everything your proposing is based upon fear based hypotheticals.
You have not given any evidence to support these fears.
More over, you have missed the point of this topic; Gun violence.
Those who desire to own guns have a responsibility.
If a gun is a symbol of protection and saftey,If freedom of "keeping your gun" is what you think will ensue saftey of those like you, then saftey of others who get caught in the literal crossfire, should be valued as well.
Not every human should have to own a gun to ensure their saftey. "Guns stop guns" is a comforting thought, I'm sure.
But it's batshit insane.
Every single person having to make sure they take their gun to campus, to grocery shopping, to the movie theater, to church, to the park, out at a bar on a Saturday night?
This isn't about disarming people like you, just to take away your "protection". To target you. If you want to keep your gun, own up to the responsibility that should come with owning such a weapon.
If you'd ask me to care for gun owners saftey against the goverment, then I should be able to ask of you the same for those hurt by guns is mass numbers....Unless you don't care enough to do not' more than hammer against others on the internet rather than enacting actual change?
Protect, not with your gun. But change you can make.
And don't spew that it's bullshit unless you have actually tried to go improve things within your community in terms of gun saftey and gun violence.
Remember your hypothetical anxieties are just that,Hypothetical.
You disrespect the lives and communities that have actually been hurt when you dismiss the violence, trauma, and loss to protect your own self interest.
A reality you're clearly not comprehending.
"People could die by police brutality if those with guns are all determined criminals."
People. Are. Already. Dead.
All their deaths, by guns obtained legally, enabling killers.
The problem is the weapon and the culture it has created.
Now, to help bridge some divides, appeal to your likely background,
I grew up around guns. Hunting family. Republican family. My dad was a pastor *gasp*. I had my first around 10 years old. (My OWN. Was allowed to use my brother's bb gun before then).
Three in total. (Excellent shot). Also had a bow, multiple fishing poles (won a tournament in Arkansas against grown men around 11).
Point being, in terms of the conservative and sportsman culture most with guns try to adhere to justify continuing to own guns,
I get it.
(If you came thinking I was a snowflake who had nothing more than "guns are bad!" You are mistaken. Nooo, I am a liberal forged from the firey hell that is the extremely conservative right. And I'll have you know my freshmen year of college I was voted to leader in the event of a zombie apocalypse, in part due to being a great shot. Sure, I'm disabled now. But bet your ass I'd rather be on my own than with any of the many gun-lovers I grew up with, or those in the military, in the event of a zombie apocalypse or authoritarian government).
But that's all fictional scenarios.
The reality is, we *all* have to aknowledged the cost gun violence, deregulation, and it's culture takes on families and communities.
It is senseless, irresponsible, horrific, in short, not worth this.
To protect, truely, means having a deep regaurd and respect for others and the ability to step away from your personal interest.
To aknowledge the very real ways in which they are being hurt. Right now.
Now, get your butt away from your screen and go put your energy into improving the lives of the people around you.
