Can i ask what your brush settings are? The way you color & paint digitally is so nice!! *0*
if you were expecting a clear cut answer then im sorry. because im a mess
i don’t quite have brushes that are set in stone and designated for certain things, it’s more like. i have some that have vague purpose but i edit the brushes themselves to suit my needs for individual drawings. but i’ll do my best
here are the ones i use most commonly (for paint tool sai)
this is one i call soft sketch. there’s nothing really special about it. i’ve had it for a longgg time, but it’s more of a concept than a For Real Brush because i constantly alter the dilution to suit my needs, even mid-drawing. despite its name, i use it mainly for lineart and flat colors. except more often than not, lineart is this weird process where i draw this big messy sketch and then clean it up with a somewhat diluted, transparent version of the brush. it creates this crisp/kinda painterly look.
*i don’t use this brush for all lineart though! sometimes i’ll line something traditionally, take a picture with this app called camscanner, and then clean THAT up with the brush. some of my drawings with rougher edges were most likely cases where i did that
this is one i use for sketches. i named it SCRONG i guess. i got it from somewhere but it’s long been bastardized since then. again, i mess with the dilution depending on the drawing. there’s not much to this one
i can’t remember where i got this one either. i may have made it myself but who knows. sometimes i use this one for lineart/color laydown/shading/highlights and it’s reallllly nice… it’s got a nice chalky feel to it…. i screw with the blending/dilution pretty frequently so those stats aren’t set in stone here. it’s a lot of fun
this one i DO remember where i got it from. i don’t use it all the time but it’s really nice if youre going for a painterly kinda look. not much to say here
the bottom line is that my process is hardly consistent. i use these interchangeably in drawings, my strategy is slightly different each time, and i edit them constantly. good luck though
#4got to mention i'll also sometimes use soft sketch or a basic watercolor brush for painting#the key for dilution settings though is if it's all the way down itll be perfectly crisp but if it's too far up it looks airbrushed#i have it in this sweet spot where it's in the lowest quarter. i mean it's wibbly but youll want it soft but not Too soft....#it wholly depends on what your style is and what youre going for though
