'A Fresh Start 𓏲*ੈ✩‧₊˚🎐[part ii]
When the mysterious new girl in town makes a lasting first impression, you make it your goal to befriend and welcome her to the town. [Part i] playlist!!!
self deprecating stalker jinx ill luv u 4eva & eva & eva...
"Hey."
"Hi!"
“. . .”
“. . . ?”
“. . .”
“. . . ???”
You blinked, waiting for her to say literally anything else, but nope. Just “hey.” and now she was standing there, looking like she was on the verge of shitting her pants while you wondered if this was how all her conversations went.
Surprisingly you didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable, more so confused. Looking around, your eyes landed on your old neighbor who’s own eyes were on the girl in front of you. He was giving her this look of judgment. It wasn’t obvious or harsh but it was still there. And then it clicked.
This was her.
The newcomer who moved into that old cottage on the outskirts of town. The one Mrs. Van Dee Kamp couldn’t stop speculating about, the one Mr. Gallagher said “looked like trouble”, and the same one you were so curious about.
It wasn’t long before your group started to shuffle awkwardly, clearly ready to move on. They glanced at her, the kind of quick, hesitant looks people gave when they didn’t want to seem rude but also didn’t want to linger. One by one, they made their excuses, mumbling something about needing to get back to their stalls. They took a couple of steps away, looking back once they realized you weren’t following.
“I’ll catch up with you guys later!” you called, waving them off.
Turning back, you realized she was already staring at you, her wide pink eyes locked onto yours like you’d just caught her doing something she wasn’t supposed to.
“Hi!” you started... for the second time now.
“Uh… yeah.” she said, her voice flat as if responding to a completely different conversation.
Not exactly the warmest start, but you continued. “You’re new in town right? People have been talking, but you know, nothing bad! They’re just curious.”
Her eyes glanced left then right as you were talking, like she was scanning for an exit. “Yeah. New.”
You tilted your head. “Well, welcome. I’m–”
“Okay.” she cut you off, her tone abrupt.
“...Okay?” you repeated, blinking.
“Yeah. Thanks. Bye.”
Before you could say another word, she spun on her heel and started walking… no, speed-walking, towards the dirt path that lead into the forest.
You stood there, frozen, your brain scrambling to process what had just happened. Did she seriously just… run away? Mid-conversation?
It took you a solid few seconds to realize your jaw was hanging open. Shutting it quickly, you looked around, half expecting someone to jump out with a camera and tell you that you that it was a prank.
But no. The mysterious girl who had everyone talking had just bolted, leaving you standing there like an idiot.
And for some reason, instead of being offended, you couldn’t help but laugh.
Who was she? And what kind of person walked away from a perfectly normal greeting? Mind you, a greeting she had started. You didn’t know why, but suddenly, you were dying to find out.
. . .
This feeling wasn’t technically new.
For weeks, you’d felt it, that weird sensation on the back of your neck, like someone was watching you. At first, it had been easy to ignore. You told yourself it was just your brain playing tricks. It was harmless. Whatever.
But now? Not so much.
The feeling wasn’t just there when you stood still like it was before, it followed you now. Around the market, down quiet streets, even when you stopped to chat with neighbors. You’d catch glimpses, a blur of blue hair disappearing behind a corner, the faintest sound of boots on the gravel.
More than once, you were so sure you’d catch them. You’d spin around at the sound of a shuffle or a shadow that felt too close. But by the time you looked? Nothing. Just an empty alley or a completely innocent looking street lamp.
It was driving you nuts.
You didn’t have to guess who it was either. You knew it was her. The girl from the square, Powder, or whatever her name really was. The way she’d bolted last time you tried to talk to her? That had to mean something.
Now it wasn’t just about being watched. It was about her. What was her deal? Why was she sneaking around? Why couldn’t she just talk to you?
You're own feelings about the situation were confusing you. You didn't necessarily... mind it. Unlike the other townsfolk, you didn't see her as a threat. She didn't seem like the type who would go out of her way to harm you. So 'why' was the question, and you were determined to figure it out.
Every time you caught a glimpse of her, something tugged at you. It wasn’t just the mystery of it all, though that was definitely part of it. There was something about her, it's like she didn't want to be seen yet wanted all of your attention.
And you wanted to know why. Why so secluded? Why so interested in your mundane countryside life?
It wasn’t like the townsfolk were any help either. They whispered about her, sure, 'the new girl with the blue hair and the weird vibes' but that’s all they did. Whispers. Speculation. None of them had actually tried to get to know her as far as you could tell.
Which left it to you.
The more you thought about it, the more determined you got. You didn’t want to believe she was some big, bad menace just because she didn’t fit into their little box of what people here were 'supposed' to be like. She was human, and just as deserving of a community as anyone else. So, yeah, you had questions.
And, apparently, she had no intention of giving you any answers.
It was almost funny how good she was at avoiding you. You’d be walking down the street, sure you'd spotted her near the bakery, and then poof. Gone. Like she had been a figment of your imagination. It was starting to feel like a game, except you knew something she didn't. How to cheat.
. . .
“Alright, I know you’re in there!” you yelled, leaning closer to the door as your fist continued to bang on the wood. “You can’t hide forever!”
Silence.
You squinted at the cottage, the place looked... interesting. It was still that run down creepy cottage you remembered always seeing whenever you passed by, but it was strangely... lively. Big scraps of metal and parts outside, colorful flowers (although wilted), and colorful graffiti that seemed to cover every side.
Snapping yourself out of your thoughts, you knocked again harder, this time raising your voice. “I’m not leaving until you open this door!”
Still nothing.
“Powder! Or... whatever your name is!” you shouted, hoping the use of her name might get a reaction.
From inside, you swore you heard a faint creak. A floorboard, maybe? It was hard to tell over the sound of your heart hammering in your ears. You leaned forward, pressing your ear to the door.
“I can hear you in there, you know.” you tried, softening your tone just a bit, stepping back from the door. “I’m not mad or anything. I just want to talk! That’s all.”
The silence that followed felt even more deafening than before. For a second, you wondered if you’d imagined the sound altogether.
And then, just as you were about to knock again, the door creaked open.
Barely.
A narrow space, enough for one pink eye to peek through.
“What do you want?” came a voice.
It wasn’t hostile exactly, but it wasn’t friendly either. Cautious. Suspicious.
You blinked, caught off guard by just how intense her gaze was up close.
“Uh, hi?” you started, scrambling for words that didn’t sound totally ridiculous. “We’ve been running into each other a lot lately- well, okay, more like you’ve been running away- but I just wanted to…” You trailed off, realizing you hadn’t actually planned this far ahead.
Her eye narrowed slightly, not moving to open the door any wider.
“...check in?” you finally finished, wincing at your own words.
The door inched shut a little more.
“Wait, wait!” you said frantically as you held up your hands.
“I mean it! No tricks, no weird town gossip or whatever. I just… I think we got off on the wrong foot. Can we maybe start over? I'd love to be friends.”
Her eye flicked to your hands, then back to your face. For a moment, you thought she was actually gonna let you in.
Instead, she sighed. “You shouldn’t have come here.”
Her voice was quieter now, laced with something you couldn’t quite place. Regret? Fear?
“Why not?” you asked gently, lowering your hands.
But she didn’t answer, instead she gave you this long silent look. And just as you were about to speak up again, the door shut and the bolt slid into place.
“Well, okay then.”
. . .
when i talk abt the town pls imagine a Minecraft village or something of the sort ...

WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND 𖥔 M.R X READER
in which you spend christmas with mattheo and his friends (part two to lovesick!mattheo)
pairing: lovesick!mattheo riddle x reader tags: lovesick mattheo, fem reader, early christmas post i think? word count: 1.8k warnings: just fluff!
author's note: THIS IS PART TWO TO LOVESICK MATTHEO, if you want to read part one click here - now listen people, i know it’s not really christmas time BUT a lot of you guys really liked my first mattheo post, and i really really wanna write about him again. and what better way to be in love then cuddles at the fireplace??? therefore, the obvious solution is to have a christmas special!
WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND | M.R X READER
It had been a long while since you and Mattheo had gotten together, a relationship full of notes and songs dedicated to you. You tried to keep everything you could in a small box, the widest smile on Mattheo’s face coming out when he saw the box for the first time.
Suffice to say that his appreciative kisses and cuddles kept you rather warm that night.
Over the course of your relationship, you had met Mattheo’s friends as well. It started indirectly, whenever they would barge into his dorm room and find you both cuddling.
Theodore was the one you talked to the most. He was Mattheo’s best friend, and often teased him quite a bit about how much he loved you. Theo was the one who told you about the love letters that Mattheo made in the first place, which you shall forever be grateful for.
Blaise and Draco were the friends that you often went to if you wanted to get on a cruise ship the next week, or whenever you wanted the best wine seller for a Slytherin party that weekend. And Enzo or Pansy were the friends you’d go to if you wanted all of that done illegally.
All in all, a rather good friend group.
Which led you to where you were going right now. A legal holiday adventure hosted by Draco at one of his vacation houses somewhere in the world. Mattheo and you decided to spend some time together driving to the place, which eventually led to Theo coming along. Theo invited Blaise to smoke with him. Blaise invited Draco to pay for road trip snacks. Draco invited Pansy because they were dating. And Pansy invited Enzo for reasons you still hadn’t been told yet.
That meant you had to take your family van.
You and Mattheo sat in the front, with Theo, Ezo and Blaise in the middle. Pansy and Draco sat in the backseats, dining in on the couple time that you and Mattheo had been robbed of. Still, you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Are we there yet?” Enzo whined, head leaning forward.
Maybe one change or two.
“No, we’re not.” Mattheo said, sighing softly as he continued driving forward. “I told you this five minutes ago.”
“Maybe the path changed within five minutes!” Enzo said to him.
“Yeah, five minutes closer. Not an hour!” you said, chuckling softly as you squeezed Mattheo’s hand.
“You two are mean.” Enzo pouted, turning to look at Blaise. “Right Blaise?”
“It’s deserved.” he said, flipping through the pages of his book. He recently got reading glasses that Draco and Enzo had teased him endlessly for. “Ow!”
“No kicking!” Pansy said, swatting Enzo’s head from the backseat.
“I say go full-in.” Theo said, which ensued an argument about the ethics of kicking someone whenever they don’t agree with your opinion. You and Mattheo turned to look at each other with soft sighs, similar to parents dealing with toddlers going to Disneyland.
“Can you all hush back there?” you said, the tiniest smirk present on your face as you started at Mattheo. “Your father is trying to drive, hey don’t hit me!”
“Hush.” he said, gently booping your nose.
“Are we there now?” Enzo asked as Mattheo pulled into the parking lot, gasping loudly at the sight of the cabin. “Woah.”
It was decorated to the most Christmas extent you could think of. Bushes covered in lights, icicle lights hanging from the roof, wreaths placed all over the place. There were bells on top of the mailbox that chimed when you passed by it, and a large and bright star at the tippy top of the roof. If you didn’t know where you were, you’d think you walked into a Christmas market hosted by Santa.
The seven of you walked out of the car, Draco walking through first as he inspected the house.
“My mother has a knack for Christmas,” he muttered, his feet making a rather large imprint in the snow. “I didn't think it was this big though.”
“I bet the Christmas tree is so pretty.” Pansy squealed, running to the front door. “Open it!”
“Give me a moment, Pans!” he said, trying to figure out which key opened the front door from the ring his mother had given him. You and Mattheo stayed behind while the rest of them rushed forward, watching them rush inside once Draco got it open.
“It looks rather magical.” you whispered, giggling as a small snowflake fell on your nose.
“It really does.” Mattheo whispered softly, his eyes glued on you as he spoke. “The most magical thing I’ve ever seen.”
“You’re so sappy.” you smiled.
Mattheo chuckled softly, his arms wrapping around you. There were two puffer jackets separating your skin from his, but you wouldn’t trade this moment for the world. “We should go on a walk.”
“We should!” you said, your boots making an indent on the snow as you both walked down the path.
The path was even more magical than the house itself, you noticed, with Christmas trees lining the whole way down. It seemed that all of the trees within the field were swaddled in Christmas lights. Some were regular, some were colored, and others had ornaments or lights at the tip of them.
“This really is beautiful.” you whispered, gasping at the string lights and small candles that gently flew between the trees. How they didn’t get put out by the snow, you had no idea. “Wow.”
“You’re beautiful.” he whispered, chuckling softly as he kissed your forehead. “I haven’t been able to keep my eyes off you this whole time.”
“Well, you better start.” you pouted, turning to him. “The trees are really pretty.”
Mattheo nodded, laughing as you grabbed his chin to direct him where to look. His eyes took in the snowed over area first, the lights on the trees after that. There was red, green, and blue lights bouncing together, along with the regularly colored lights that shined bright on the glittery ornaments.
“They are rather pretty, yes.” he whispered. “Though I feel like it’s quite a lot of color rather than just one.”
“What really is Christmas if not to turn you blind with bright lights?” you asked, smiling as the both of you walked further down the path.
“Okay everyone, gather around!” Mattheo said, a bass guitar in hand. The night was rising as the sun was setting, the firepit that Blaise and Enzo had made cracking through the burning wood.
“What are we doing?” Pansy asked, sitting down on one of the wooden logs. Mattheo sat down next to you as Draco sat down next to Pansy. Theo sat next to Mattheo purely to annoy him, while Blaise and Enzo sat on the other log.
“We’re going to sing the Jingle Bell Rock.” Mattheo said, setting the bass guitar on his knees as he began testing it. “Found this in the attic.”
“What on Earth are you doing in my attic?” Draco asked, a cup of wine in his hands.
“Hey, it was open!” Theo said, having assisted with the raid of the Christmas attic. “And we found a bunch of very interesting things.”
“Like what?” Enzo leaned forward with a smirk, before Blaise whacked him in the head. “Ow!”
“They’re just messing with Draco.” Blaise said. “There was only old cobwebs and his parents’ Hogwarts uniforms, nothing scandalous.”
“A shame though.” Theo muttered, lighting a joint before turning to Mattheo. “You gonna play?”
“Yup.” Mattheo said, his fingers running against the strings as he played the opening to the Jingle Bell Rock.
You and Pansy giggled as the boys all joined together to sing the song, all completely out of tune. Pansy shared a glance with you as you both began to sing the back up vocals, all of you swaying in tune with the music.
You went from the Jingle Bell Rock to Rockin Around the Christmas Tree. Mattheo and you sang Baby it’s Cold Outside while Theo and Enzo gagged, and Draco dramatically sang Frosty the Snowman with tears in his eyes. Enzo stood up dramatically, pausing the guitar as he began to sing a song about a grandma being run over by a reindeer.
“Okay, that’s enough weed for you,” Draco said, sitting Enzo back down. “We are not running grandmas over with reindeer.”
“Says you!” Theo cackled, crossing his legs. “I for one find the idea rather pleasant.”
“Pleasant?” Pansy asked incredulously, shaking her head as she very quickly snatched Theo’s joint out of his hand. “That’s it, we’re cutting you off too.”
“My joint!” Theo yipped.
“Mattheo?” you called out, poking your head out of the door as you saw him sitting by the firepit.
“Yeah?” he asked, head lifting at the sound of your voice. You felt your face heating up at the smile that spread on his face, feeling it enough to heat you better than any fire could. “Hi there my love.”
“Everyone’s inside making hot chocolate before they go to bed.” you whispered, walking closer to him. Your hands found their way to the sides of his face, kissing the tip of his nose before you sat down next to him on the log. “Do you want some?”
“No, I’m good.” he whispered, kissing your forehead before wrapping his arm around you.
“You sure?” you whispered, wrapping both of your arms around his waist. “You feel rather cold out here. Your face is all red.”
“That’s because I’m staring at a really pretty girl.” he chuckled softly, kissing your lips ever so gently.
You giggled softly, placing your head on his shoulder as you looked up at him with the cutest expression he could ever think of. For him, you felt like epitome of Christmas. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” you said, nuzzling your nose against his playfully.
“No, I love you more.” he smiled softly at you.
“Not true.” you pouted, kissing his nose. “Because I love you so much more.”
“Oh yeah?” he asked, chuckling softly. “Well I wrote you songs. So obviously, I love you more.”
“Yeah, well I saved them!” you pouted.
“You did save them.” he reasoned, nodding his head as he looked at the firepit. He put on a serious expression, pretending to truly ponder whether you loved him more or he loved you more. “Still think I love you more though.”
“That’s not fair.” you grumbled, burying your face against the crook of his neck. “It’s cold.”
“Why don’t we go inside then?” he asked gently, his fingertips caressing your shoulder. “You didn’t come out with your jacket, you must be freezing.”
“I am.” you whispered, standing up as he did. “Hot chocolate?”
Mattheo chuckled softly at your insistence, kissing your forehead once more before putting out the fire. “Anything for you.”

the forgotten girl (2)
posted originally on my old account. will be posting twice weekly :)
Amelia Scott-Higgins was a person a lot of people looked up too. The winner of the 2019 Ballon d’Or who was just 21 at the time. She was an inspiration on and off the field, so you can imagine everyone’s shock when she disappeared. Only a few know the gruesome details of her injuries, and those happen to be Barcelona players Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh. Alexia Putellas had always admired her, as a person and a player.
“Do you think we could convince her to join us? We need a striker and she is the best!” Jana excitedly said to Alexia, Mapi and Ingrid as they walked into the locker room.
“No, she was the best. Past tense.” Ingrid said.
“Ale you could totally convince her! You guys were friends no?” Jana’s words were loud through the quiet locker room.
“Who are you convincing?” The English accent through the Spanish was still very clear to this day and unmistakably came from Lucy.
“Amelia Scott-Higgins! She’s living in Barcelona and Ale used to be her friend! We need her Luce!”
“No. Understand what I am about to say. No one here is to contact Milly and ask her to play. No one is to ask her to come to a game or to hang out. She has been through enough and you will all leave her the hell alone.” Keira spoke extremely firmly. No one has heard her talk like that before.
“Kei, come on they don’t know.”
“That’s exactly right Lucy. They don’t know. You all think she’s this amazing footballer and want her to play, but she went through some fucked up shit. She doesn’t want to play, she doesn’t want to watch. She wants to be left alone so that’s exactly what everyone is going to do: leave her alone.” The locker door slammed as Keira left. She would protect Amelia now, since she couldn’t before.
Before it all happened, Keira, Leah and Amelia were inseparable. The group was formed at a football event the first year Amelia moved over to the UK, in 2014, at just 16 years old. Emily played with Man City, alongside Keira, Lucy and Georgia. Despite playing at different clubs, they always made time for each other. The unlikely friendship with Alexia Putellas started in 2017, after both signing with Nike and having to do a campaign. Both girls were socially awkward, they sat in silence for most the day until Alexia invited Amelia to dinner. From there on out, they were very close friends.
Alexia struggled with the fame, Amelia did not. She was able to offer advice to Alexia, sharing ways to keep relationships private, or how to compartmentalise. Alexia didn’t even get a text off of Amelia when it all happened. She had flown to England to attend the funeral. A numb, bruised and bandaged shell of a friend stood before them all.
“You knew Amelia?” Olga asked quietly over dinner the night after their run in.
“Yeah. I knew both Amelia and Emily.” The sadness evident in Alexia’s voice.
“Why’d she quit? I googled her. She won the Ballon d’Or and UEFAs best player. What happened?”
“Her wife was murdered and she was hurt. I don’t even think I can begin to explain the type of player she was. She was easily the best player the world has ever seen. No matter what, she worked hard. She cared, if a person got hurt you’d know because Amelia was there first. After her opponents lost, she wouldn’t celebrate her win, she’d go around and tell them everything they did well, hug them and let them cry. I went to the funeral, she was just a shell. Covered in bruises and bandages, in a wheelchair. Then she just vanished. On the first anniversary of Emily’s death, she deleted every single social media she had, changed her number and quit football. I hadnt seen her since, apparently Keira and Lucy hadn’t either.”
“that’s a lot for one person to go through. Where are her parents?”
“Doesn’t have any. They died when she was little, from what she shared she was in foster care in Australia until they let her come to the UK”
“Maybe you should invite her for dinner? She could use a friend.”
“No. YOU should invite her. You’re someone who she doesn’t know and you two seemed to hit it off.”
Olga didn’t tell Alexia, or anyone for that matter, but Amelia had followed her on instagram that night after they met. Seemingly on a private, almost anonymous account. Olga had no plans to force Amelia back into football or back into Alexia’s life, but the more she learnt the more she wanted to ensure she wasn’t alone in this world.
Every morning, Alexia would run along the beach. It was usually quiet and calm since Spain generally didn’t wake up until later in the morning. Every morning, she would watch the same surfer. Scars scattered on her legs, one long scar from the back of her hip, across her torso. Alexia knew it was Amelia, but she never stopped to say hello, not until that morning.
The morning that would change things.

Reminder that this is how bummys talk about Oliver and worse. Let's not forget some of them also made a 4hr podcast months ago saying awful stuff about him, all because he was posting about hanging out with Ryan and not Lou. They've also been repeatedly calling him biphobic/homophobic because he said Buck should get to explore his sexuality more and have sex.
Some of these people used to be Buddie shippers but the truth is they never really cared about Oliver or Buck. They have the nerve to call us fetishists when a lot of us have been shipping two best friends for years who we just want to see take their relationship to the next level. The main draw for them with b/t is wanting to see two guys they think are hot together because it certainly wasn't about Buck and his happiness. They weren't ever looking at his scenes with Tommy thinking is this really the best relationship for Buck? They've always been more concerned with Tommy and wanting him to be a permanent fixture on the show. Almost immediately after 704 some of them were calling him Buck's endgame. Even though we were shown time and time again how much Tommy was never the right person for Buck.
Now that their ship is over they've inevitably turned on Oliver and are blaming him for it even though at the end of the day the person who made that decision was Tim.
Also and this is something I really really wish bummy stans would get through their heads, actors are allowed to have personal opinions about the media they act in. Oliver has said he's a fan of 911 so I'm sure he watches the show. It's clear from many things he's said that he genuinely cares about Buck every bit as much as we do. So acting like he's not allowed to have preferences for the show and for Buck just makes no sense. He's connected to Buck in a way none of us are so if anyone should get to have thoughts on Buck's story it should be him. He's allowed to like or dislike a ship or a storyline. I know it sucks if an actor that's part of a ship you like doesn't support that ship but it does happen.
Oliver has supported Buddie for years and been very transparent that he wants to see it happen. He was never going to become the captain of the b/t ship. He's never really been super supportive of any of Buck's other ships nor does he have to be. Oliver has always been respectful towards his co-stars and fans and always given respectful answers about Buck's past ships in interviews and that's all he's really required to do.
It's honestly baffling how bummy stans continue to play the victim and continue to try and come up with all these reasons for why they think Oliver is a bad person for not supporting their ship and Lou. The reality is b/t was never meant to last. Oliver knew this and didn't want to lead anyone on. It's also very likely that Lou didn't get along with the cast especially given how they went out of their way to say goodbye to Callum and there was nothing for Lou. Not to mention Oliver very deliberately leaving Lou out of his photography spoke volumes.
I also think Oliver saw at least some of the drama online this year both from b/t stans and from Lou and it made him less likely to engage with that part of fandom. Bummy fans spent a not insignificant amount of time this year saying terrible sometimes racist things about Ryan and Eddie (like telling Ryan he should have finished the job when he talked about his s*icide attempt). Ryan is clearly someone that Oliver cares a lot about so if he saw any of this I'm sure it didn't endear him to those fans. On top of that they continually pushed for a guest character, who was never meant to be anything more than a plot device in Buck's story to be a main character and have his own Begins episode.
I'm just really sad and angry that this is the kind of stuff Oliver is having to deal with. Buck's bisexual journey should be this amazing positive thing and bummy stans have repeatedly tried to warp it to be their way or no way. I just really hope that Oliver knows there are so so many of us who love him and appreciate all the work he's done.

pairing: spencer reid x reader
description: in which you and spencer decorate your apartment for christmas.
tags: fluff, roommate!spencer, gn!reader, idiots in love, pinning, decorating!, spencer lifts reader up super quick, reader teases spencer bcs its fun, a little singing.
a/n: woahhh first christmas fic. MY BAD i listened to our love by curtis harding when i wrote majority of this so it just became what it did (not rlly sure what that is). you'd think a reader fond of christmas would only be playing christmas songs (esp when decorating), but she doesn't even?? idk guys. also i gave a hack making a header for this one, might continue making them. anyway lmk what you think, happy reading :))
wc: 1.7k
“tacky, tacky, tacky...” you drone, fingers skimming over the themed trinkets and signs on the shelves. you’re christmas decor shopping with spencer. it's almost the end of november, which you personally think is too late (being a strict ‘christmas starts on november 1st’ believer), but you had no choice in the matter, wanting to wait for spencer's schedule to free up so you could go together.
“oh cute!” you chirp, picking up a porcelain snoopy with a santa hat on. you show it to spencer, who trails behind you with a sparsely filled cart. “beside the-”
“tv,” he finishes for you, nodding in agreement. you place it in the cart and continue walking down the aisle.
“i hope you’re checking the price tags,” he muses from behind you, scanning over all the items. you shoot him a look paired with an unconvincing “yeah.”
“be serious,” he says, though a little amused.
“i am,” you step closer to him, meeting his somewhat challenging gaze. you try to hold your ground but something about the way his eyes crinkle at the corners as he squints at you makes you want to look away. “fine, i'll look over everything before check out. deal?”
he smiles, victorious. “deal.” he holds out his hand and you give it a firm shake before continuing your perusing.
you spend the next 2 hours like that, complaining about the abundance of generic things and squealing when you do find something nice. in the end, settling on an assortment of baubles, to add on to the ones you already had from last year, a new green blanket, a mulled-wine scented candle (that took you way too long to pick), the snoopy ornament, and 2 matching mugs which you had to sweet talk spencer into buying. you can never have too many mugs.
˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
you light the new candle and set it on the dining table, briefly glancing at the flame. the warmth on your face feels nice but you pull away quickly, knowing that if spencer catches you that close to the candle, he’ll chastise you about the fumes.
he's digging through the closet for last year's decorations. the tree is already up–7ft something–tucked in the corner of the living room, bare and in dire need of some personality. he finds the box, and you pull out the fairy lights, starting to swirl the wire from the top down, spencer opposite you to help.
music faintly plays from your speaker, so you turn it up, landslide by fleetwood mac.
you circle around the tree with a handful of baubles, a collection of reds and whites, hanging them up where they felt right. spencer nudges you for approval on a few placements and you give him a reassuring smile. the two of you move in sync, on either end. he places a custom ornament of his team somewhere to the front of the tree. when you put up the last of the new ones, you take a step back and give it a good look. happy, spencer hands you the star. he hovers two tentative hands under your arms, over your rib cage, to lift you. there’s a stool near you that would’ve been perfectly fine, but you wiggle in his grasp anyway, telling him he can. despite his lanky frame, he picks you up with ease. you place the gold topper on firmly. when he puts you down you lean back into him, swaying. you hum quietly to the music. he presses his lips into your hair, lingering, before pulling away. you instantly miss his warmth, but you don't dwell on it, why should you?
the click of the kettle sounds from the kitchen, he's probably making tea. you think to tell him to use the new mugs, but he already knows. you're still swaying, head dipping up and down as you move across the room. you look through the box for more things to decorate with when your eyes land on a sprig of artificial leaves held together with a red bow.
“hey, when did we get mistletoe?” you call out, hoping your voice carries to the adjoining room.
“hmm?” he pokes his head through the door, looking at the item in your hand. “oh... penny got it for us last year, didn't put it up though.” he explains before returning to the tea, you put it in your pocket for later. you were well aware of what his teammates thought of you, or rather you and him. over the course of the 2 years you lived with spencer, you’d been taken to their family dinners and get-togethers as his plus one, never a girlfriend or a date, you. they ceased their relentless teasing for your benefit, but you knew spencer got the brunt of it when you weren't around. they mean well, they’re just annoying, he told you after you met them for the first time.
you saunter over, ready to tease him. you can't help but want to, he's just so easy. plus, you think it's endearing when he's flustered. “you wanna put it up?” you ask with a smirk, leaning against the kitchen counter.
“what! oh- i don't know, no- uhm- well i don't mean no like it would be bad a bad thing- i just mean–” he stammers nervously, eyes wide and slightly panicked, before you cut him off with a laugh.
“calm down, pretty. i'm just joshin’ ya.”
he lets out a sigh of relief, though it's laced in hidden disappointment. he wouldn't mind if you put it up, wouldn't mind at all. he hands you your mug, navy with little yellow speckles that resembled stars. with his own in hand, he leads you out of the kitchen.
you settle on the couch beside each other. your shoulder lightly bumps against his in steady beats because you're still swaying, as you blow at your drink. worried about you spilling he peels it from you and sets it down on the arm rest to cool on its own. your knee is bouncing now as the next song starts playing, our love.
“there's a girl in town and words gone around she's just fine,” you sing quietly, head dropping onto his shoulder. “so i don't worry my head cause i know her heart is tied to mine.” you tip back onto the cushions, and you raise a dramatic hand to your chest, over your heart. “the life that we live and the love that i give to her. each day it grows more and more i'm sure, it shows. well,” you shift to face him, leaning closer.
“our love, is a bubblin' fountain. our love, that flows into a sea. our love, deeper than any ocean. our love, for eternity.”
you quiet as the second verse starts playing, switching to mouthing the lyrics instead. you look at him with a reverie, head tilted in observation, that makes him nervous. “…he holds me down for sure.” in diligent self-sabotage, he combats this by starting to sing along with you, putting his mug down beside yours, effectively ending the moment as you spring in recognition.
your eyebrows furrow in amusement as you follow suit, planting your hands on his shoulders to move his in tow with yours. the angle is awkward, and he looks a little silly as he does it but it's fine. the chorus plays through and you tire, dipping your head back into his shoulder as he returns your mug to you, albeit still quietly mumbling the lyrics.
you practically chug the tea, having reached an ideal temperature. spencer sits sipping slowly, a serial sipper. you curl into his side in the meantime, arm looped through his. after several minutes, he finishes and you take both mugs to the sink, rinsing them swiftly.
you slowly but surely continue decorating. two stockings adorned with your initials hang from the key rack in the hallway. handmade paper snowflakes are stuck to the window, snowflakes that had you and spencer hunched over in concentration on the floor a few nights ago, tediously cutting away. you go back and forth on whether the tinsel would go well with the tree, realising all it missed was something sparkly, you wrap it around. spencer nails a simple wreath on the front door, there's a little purple bow on it. snoopy is placed in the midst of the trinkets that sat at your tv table–good choice, you think. you change out the pillowcases on the couch for ones with a red flannel pattern and throw the new blanket across the back.
the space is perfect, standing in the middle of the room you take a deep breath. waxy candle scented greatness fills your senses, and somehow pine? from the wreath you assume. it's dimly lit, and the low light reflects off the sparkles on the tree gracefully. you wish you had a fireplace during times like this, you take a picture to preserve it anyway.
you leave to change into your pyjamas, quickly so the cold doesn't linger on your skin. when you return to the living room you find spencer on the couch, a book perched in his lap. you come up to the back, mistletoe that you fished out of your pocket in hand. you crouch behind him, a little to his right, with the leaves dangling over his head. you graze it lightly on his hair and he looks up. his eyes widen slightly in realisation, but he doesn't try to move, he's intently still. with an amused huff, you lean in and kiss his cheek softly. he's still frozen in place, so as to prolong whatever's happening, a flush spreading across his face. you lean back and drop the sprig into the seat beside him.
“goodnight spencer,” you whisper, suddenly timid. he touches his fingers to the area as you walk away.
˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
a few hours later, he walks into your room, quietly padding across the floor, to your side of the bed. he made the mistake of drinking a cup of coffee a few minutes after you left and now, he can't sleep, naturally. he bends and presses a kiss to your forehead, in some kind of implied reciprocation. you don't feel it, you don't even stir, but for now, that's alright with him.
he’ll put the mistletoe up, maybe in the doorway to the kitchen. and hope to god you both find yourselves under it at the same time.

𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 [𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄] — 𝐒𝐊𝐘𝐄 𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐘
one / two / masterlist / wattpad
summary: when someone asks you out, things get tense between you and Skye and you aren’t sure how to deal with it.
warning/s: the usual warnings that have come with this fic lol.
author's note: and here's the last part! this was a fun one to write, and it's always fun to write for naomi since there aren't many characters of hers i can write for!! (still salty terra nova was cancelled 😭). So yeah, hope you guys like it 🥰
Skye was recording some bits at a studio in the city and we were supposed to hang out after, but I didn't have much else to do and ended up arriving early. As she finished up, I hung around to let her finish, snooping around the building and chatting with some of the staff there.
As I was, I ended up getting caught in some conversation with one of the production assistants, Anna. It was always nice to get to know new people, but I didn't realise it was more than that until she started to flirt with me. Maybe she always was and I was too dumb to notice, but I was awkwardly flattered.
Still, she was interesting and we seemed to get on, getting lost in conversation for about ten minutes. Only when Skye finally finished in the studio and left to find me did the conversation end.
"There you are," she said with a smile when she saw me, before noticing Anna. "Oh, hello."
"You're Skye Riley," Anna noticed with an amazed smile, before glancing at me. "You know, I thought you were playing me when you said she was your friend."
I exhaled with amusement, shaking my head. "Not playing."
She gave me a surprised look before looking to Skye politely. "Sorry, how rude of me. I'm Anna. I work here. Big fan of your music."
"Nice to meet you, Anna," Skye greeted with an easygoing smile.
"You done?" I asked Skye, referring to her work.
"Done," she confirmed.
I nodded, before offering a friendly nod to Anna. "It was great meeting you, Anna. I should go. Skye and I have plans."
Anna nodded. "Of course, yeah, you mentioned..." She paused, hesitating as she glanced shyly at Skye before meeting my gaze. "Did you wanna, maybe, hang out some time?"
I raised an eyebrow, hoping my surprise wasn't too obvious. Skye swallowed awkwardly when she realised what was happening.
"Sorry, I'll give you guys a moment," she mumbled before leaving to wait down the hall.
I didn't know what to think as I looked back to Anna, seeing her waiting hopefully. "I– sure."
Anna breathed out, relieved, as she pulled out her phone. "Great. You wanna put your number in here and I'll text you so you have mine?"
I nodded, body working on autopilot as we exchanged numbers. It wasn't that she wasn't lovely – she really was – but I wasn't used to someone actually outright flirting with me like she had been. Plus, I was always awkward when it came to pretty girls.
"Got it," I said when my phone dinged with a text from her.
"Awesome," she said with a bright smile. "I'm expecting a message," she added jokingly.
"Sure," I said with a nervous smile.
She chuckled before straightening up. "Right, I'll let you go. See you soon, Y/N. Hopefully."
"See you," I said as I watched her leave, still surprised at how someone as pretty as her actually wanted a date with me. And so confidently too.
Shaking my head, I rejoined Skye who was lurking at the end of the hallway, watching the whole encounter as much as she tried to pretend she wasn't.
"Hey," she said when I stopped by her side. "Ready?"
I hummed as I fell onto step with her, the two of us going to the lift.
"So, who was that?" she asked whilst we waited inside. "You got a date?"
I shrugged, still replaying the encounter in my mind. "We just got to talking and I wasn't expecting her to be interested in me, but... yeah. She gave me her number."
Skye nodded, eyebrows raised slightly. "Cool... so are you interested?"
I glanced at her, unsure. "I don't know. I just wasn't expecting it. You know I get talking to people when I'm bored."
She smiled slightly. "Yeah, I do. It's so annoying how social you are sometimes."
I rolled my eyes playfully and continued, "I'm not sure if I'll text her."
She hummed, looking to the lift doors as they opened, and stepped out. Her lack of advice was disorienting me.
"Do you think I should?" I asked, falling back into step with her.
"What?" she asked, glancing over at me with an unreadable expression.
I quirked a brow, wondering if she was even listening. "Text her back?"
She nodded slowly. "Well, do you want to?"
I felt my cheeks grow warm as I looked away, smiling nervously. "I don't know."
"It can't hurt, can it? It might be nice."
I chewed on my lip, pondering her words. I wasn't even sure why I was overthinking it. It was just a date.
"Just take it easy though," she said nonchalantly as we walked out the building and down the street. "You don't wanna lead her on or anything."
"True," I agreed. "Might be worth a shot though. We did get on. The spark was there."
"Just don't get attached," she warned, glancing sideways at me. "You tend to do that."
It took a moment for her words to digest, and when they did, I grew offended. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"What? You do," she said lightheartedly, but it did nothing to put me at ease. Probably noticing my expression, she tried to amend her words. "Sorry, what I meant was– you go all in, y'know? I just don't want to see you get hurt."
I blinked, looking ahead. "Wow. Thanks."
"No, I didn't mean it as an insult," she said quickly, hand wrapping around my arm as if to get my attention. "I'm just looking out for you, Y/N."
I didn't know why her words stung, but they did. Was that seriously how she viewed me? As someone who got overly attached?
It made sense, in some way, especially after everything that happened with us. But it still hurt coming from her, probably because deep down I knew she was right. Except, the only person I'd ever gotten attached to was her. My mistake, I was well aware.
Suddenly, she stopped in front of me, facing me with a guilty frown on her lips. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. It wasn't nice of me to say."
I looked down. "Doesn't matter."
"It does," she said firmly, squeezing my arm. "Really. I'm so sorry."
A little embarrassed, the familiarity of the situation creeping in, I shook my head. "It's fine. Let's just go find somewhere to eat."
To my relief, she gave in and we both continued walking to find somewhere. Admittedly, the tension was still present on my side, my feelings stewing with each step. It was disheartening, knowing she thought of me like that, joke or not.
We ate in an awkward silence, and Skye made attempts at conversation but I couldn't force myself to entertain them.
"How's your burger?" she asked, nodding to my plate. "Food here's nice, isn't it?"
I hummed halfheartedly, picking at my fries.
She sighed softly, losing her smile. "Y/N, I didn't mean what I said before."
"It's fine," I told her once more.
Her eyes flickered between mine knowingly. "You're upset."
I merely shrugged, looking down to my plate, only making her sigh again.
"You should go out with her," she said, as if that was what I wanted to hear and would make up for what she'd said. It only made me feel worse.
I ignored her, instead responding, "Let's just talk about something else. How's your tour prep going?"
She frowned slightly, clearing her throat. "Erm, fine, I suppose... Not long left now. I'm just finalising outfits and..."
As she talked a little about it, my previous anger and hurt had long faded into disheartenment. It was frustrating to admit to myself, but Skye's reaction wasn't one I'd hoped for. I wanted her to tell me not to go out with Anna, that she didn't like the idea. And that's when I knew I was delusional.
And definitely not over my best friend.
After paying for our food, Skye and I left the restaurant, awkwardly lingering outside.
"I should go," I spoke before she could. "I've got some work to do."
She nodded, sensing my mood and not saying anything else. I hesitated, noticing the discomfort in her expression, before pulling her in for a hug. It wasnt her fault I was so conflicted – she couldn't have known anything about where my head was at and taking it out on her wasn't fair.
She returned my hug, relieved. "Talk later?"
I nodded as I pulled back, offering her a small smile, hopefully letting her know that I wasn't upset. At least, not at her.
She returned it, grateful, before squeezing my arm gently and letting me go. Meanwhile, I knew I needed to fix whatever was wrong with me before it got worse.
—
I did end up texting Anna back and we'd arranged a date a week later. Part of me thought it could be good to put myself back out there with someone lovely like Anna, but the other part of me also used it as a fast track to get over whatever feelings I had for Skye.
Despite our brief argument, Skye was supportive when I told her, being a typical best friend who wanted to know all the details when she could. I believed that if I played the part hard enough, it would feel real and I'd get over her. But no matter how much I tried, I just couldn't.
The date was great. Not a thing I could fault and yet I still returned home feeling deflated and hollow. Anna was the perfect date and we had a lovely time bowling, but all I could think about was Skye and how much I wanted it to be her. It was awful, from that perspective, and definitely made my scrambled head worse.
As I took a moment to collect myself on the couch as soon as I entered my apartment, my phone rang. Speaking of the devil...
"Hey, Skye," I answered tiredly.
"Is your date done? I wanna know everything!" she said excitedly.
I sighed, massaging my head. "Yes, but–"
"Awesome! I just finished some boring photo shoot and am on my way back, but I thought I may as well stop by yours, that cool?"
I scrunched my face up in disagreement, her face being the last I needed to see right now. "I'm actually kind of tired, Skye."
She laughed, sending shivers down my spine. "Oh, grow up, baby. See you soon!"
Before I could protest, she'd hung up, leaving me to drag out a long groan as I leaned back in irritation. So much for self-deprecating for the rest of the evening.
By the time I'd gotten into my pyjamas and freshened up, there was a knock at my door. Reluctantly, I went to answer it, seeing Skye on the other side.
Her smile faded when she noticed my expression. "Oh, no, how did it go?"
I turned around, flopping down on the couch, face-first. "Average."
The door closed and she approached the couch. "No wow factor?"
I shook my head as she took a seat beside my head, resting her hand in my hair and stroking it gently which did nothing to help with my racing heart.
"It's okay," she said softly. "At least you tried."
I exhaled into the couch cushion before sitting up, facing her as I leaned against the back.
"What wasn't great?" she asked sympathetically, leaning her elbow on the back cushion and watching me carefully.
I shook my head, unable to hold her gaze and instead focusing on the loose thread from the cushion. "It was fine. Anna was lovely. But I just... yeah."
She hummed in understanding. "Sorry."
All I could do was shrug.
After a moment, she lifted her arm out, extending it. "Come here."
I hesitated, unsure if this was the best next move. But I felt like crap and Skye was my best friend first and foremost. So, I crawled over to her and let her pull me in for a hug against her chest. She stroked my hair again, kissing the top of my head and making me sigh with comfort.
"You wanna talk about it?" she asked, voice mumbled as her lips were still pressed to the top of my head.
I shook my head gently.
"Alright." She continued to stroke my hair soothingly. "Wanna get your mind off it? We could watch a movie."
I swallowed thickly, not in the mood for anything right now.
"Or I can leave and give you some space," she continued, seeming to notice my mood.
As much as I hadn't wanted her here, I now didn't want her to leave. Shaking my head, I sat upright. "No, you can stay. We'll watch something."
She searched my eyes with a hint of concern. "You sure?"
I nodded, rubbing my face with my hands. "Yeah. I just need to pee. Pick a film, I'll be back."
She nodded and I got up to go to the bathroom, using it as a chance to splash some cold water on my face too. I sighed deeply, pushing away my conflicted thoughts for the time being and returning to the couch.
As I took a seat, I noticed some snacks on the table, but the weirdest assortment of them. There were cookies, some carrot sticks, hummus and a bowl of nuts.
"Er... what is this?" I asked Skye with confusion, glancing over at her as she returned from the kitchen with two glasses of juice.
"It's all I could find," she answered, before shooting me a disapproving look. "You really need to go shopping."
I cracked a small smile as she set the glasses on the table and took a seat beside me.
"Hey, there's that smile!" she exclaimed with a satisfactory gun.
I rolled my eyes lightheartedly, stifling my smile, and instead distracted myself with eating some carrot sticks. She grabbed a handful of nuts and got comfortable, pulling her legs up on the couch.
"Thanks," I said softly, gratefully.
"You don't need to thank me," she retorted, glancing at me, but I couldn't look at her without feeling strange.
I leaned back and got comfortable, and Skye started up a film on the TV. It was easy enough to settle in and the film was a well-needed distraction from everything. But naturally, I was falling asleep halfway through it. It didn't help that it was late, I was already pretty tired and Skye was extremely comfortable.
By the time the film ended, I was half out of it, in that weird in between state of awake but asleep. My eyes were closed and I was barely paying attention until Skye sighed from beside me.
"That wasn't that bad, y'know," she decided. "I thought it would be worse given the ratings."
I hummed quietly, acknowledging her words but not really listening.
"You didn't even watch it, did you?"
"I did," I mumbled as convincingly as I could.
She chuckled, her shoulders moving and waking me up in the process. "Liar."
A yawn escaped my lips as I forced myself to sit upright, off her shoulder. She was watching me with amusement.
"Comfy?" she teased.
Too sleepy to care, I answered, "I'd apologise, but it's kind of expected if you let me lay on you."
She laughed wholeheartedly, brightening up the whole night for a moment. "You're lucky I find you comfy too."
I sighed tiredly, sitting on my side and leaning on my elbow, propped up against the back of the couch.
"You feel any better?" she asked, and I looked up at her through my eyelashes.
"A bit," I mumbled. "Thanks."
"Stop thanking me," she said with a soft smile, making me scrunch my face slightly.
"Sorry."
She rolled her eyes playfully, stifling a laugh, and I yawned again as I watched her. It could have been my fatigue-induced state, or the fact that I was hopelessly in love with my best friend, but I couldn't stop admiring how beautiful she looked before me. No makeup, messy hair, sparkling brown eyes, cute smile.
It was wrong of me to stare, wrong of my eyes to trace the arch of her brows, the slope of her nose, the curve of her lips... I'd imagined kissing her many times before, but I'd never wanted to actually do it as much as I did now.
She smiled, oblivious to my daydreams, and mimicked my pose, leaning on her elbow on the back of the couch, way too close to my expression. "Whatcha thinking, huh?" she asked playfully.
My breath hitched as my eyes lowered to her lips, only inches from mine. Time stood still. All it would take is a second, but could I?
No, I couldn't. I couldn't ruin everything because of a silly desire.
Swallowing thickly, I moved back and looked away, acting as nonchalant as I could. "Just tired."
She fell quiet as she sat up straight, and I wondered if she knew what I'd wanted to do. Maybe I'd messed it up anyway. It certainly hadn't helped with my conflicted thoughts.
"I should go," she realised. "You should sleep."
I nodded, unsure what to say, and then I saw her making a move to clear up the snacks on the coffee table.
"it's fine, I'll sort it," I said awkwardly, standing up.
She glanced at me. "You sure?"
I couldn't meet her eyes, too hot with shame. "Yeah."
"Okay," she said softly, before going to the door to pull on her shoes.
I lingered awkwardly until she opened the door, glancing at me briefly.
"Goodnight," she said.
"Night," I muttered.
She left and I closed the door behind her, releasing a deep breath. How had I messed things up so easily? All I could hope was I hadn't made her uncomfortable, but it was impossible. Even staring had overstepped, and it was just like she'd said to me a year ago – it was written all over my face. How utterly embarrassing.
—
That evening haunted me long after, it replaying in my mind over and over like a bad dream. So much that I couldn't bring it in myself to face Skye, not whilst my thoughts were a jumbled mess.
Two weeks passed and I kept our contact to the bare minimum whilst I tried to figure my feelings out. I wasn't sure if I could be her friend anymore, as much as I wanted to be. But it wasn't fair on her if I still had feelings for her.
She messaged me, but I kept my responses vague. My only relief was that she was leaving for her tour in a week, so maybe it would be easier not seeing her as much. Maybe it would've been easier to stop being her friend if I distanced myself long enough.
But it was stupid to think that, not when we'd just reconciled and I thought she wouldn't notice my absence.
I was at my apartment one afternoon when I got an unexpected visit from her. As soon as I opened the door, I raised my brows with surprise.
"Skye? What are you doing here?"
Her eyes met mine sternly. "You're avoiding me."
"What?"
She pushed past me gently to let herself in, leaving me no choice but to close the door after her and spin around.
"At first, I thought you were still upset because of your date with Anna," she started, making me wince, "but then you kept being distance and I just– I don't know what I've done!"
I sighed, feeling stupid for thinking I could get away with it. "You haven't–"
"Don't bullshit me," she snapped, fixing me with a glare. "I'm not stupid."
Her hurt expression forced me to look away, the guilt sinking in.
She took a deep breath before asking in a gentler tone, "What is it? Talk to me."
I tensed my jaw uncomfortably. "Nothing."
"Stop lying," she ordered, before taking my chin and turning my face towards her. Worried eyes found mine. "What is it?"
I pulled back in a knee-jerk reaction, feeling a lump form in my throat. "Don't."
She frowned, confused. "What? Did I do something wrong?"
I sighed deeply, avoiding her gaze. "I can't do this... I'm sorry."
"Do what?"
I swallowed thickly, struggling to find the courage but knowing it needed to be done. "I can't be friends with you anymore."
She paused, taken aback, and her voice broke my heart when she finally spoke. "What? What are you talking about?"
I shook my head, looking down at the floor.
"What?" she repeated, growing impatient, and it only made the whole situation worse.
"I can't..."
"Look at me."
I forced myself to look up, the guilt pressing on my chest when I saw her wounded expression.
"What the hell are you saying?" she asked carefully, searching my gaze. "Is this because of what happened the night of your date? The last time I was here?"
I grimaced at her bluntness, making her tense her jaw. So she'd noticed then.
"It is," she realised.
"You were fucking right, okay?" I spoke abruptly. "A year ago, when we argued and you– you said what you did."
"I was fucking high all the time," she interrupted angrily. "I didn't mean any of it."
"But you did," I retorted, frowning, forcing myself to hold her stare otherwise this was all for nothing. "Deep down, a part of you did and, fuck, it hurt so much because you were right, okay? I– I was fucking in love with you. And I know it was foolish of me, but it was true."
Her eyes widened slightly, stunned, but I couldn't seem to stop now that I'd started.
"It was horrible and it ruined everything and that's why I can't be friends with you. Because I thought I was over it but I'm fucking not, okay? And– and the other night, I didn't mean to make things weird. But my head is a mess and I don't know what to do because all I wanted to do was fucking kiss you, and I know that's wrong, it is. And I'm sorry, but I can't keep being friends with you and put you in this position again. Especially not now."
I was shaking by the time I'd finished, heart racing too fast for me to keep track of. After almost a decade, I'd finally told her the truth. And it didn't feel any more liberating than it should have.
She swallowed hard, looking down with furrowed brows as if trying to digest my admission. I'd been so focused on getting it out of me that I hadn't even had time to anticipate how she could react.
"You were in love with me?" she finally spoke, looking to me with questioning eyes. "You're in love with me?"
I almost scoffed, eyes watering. "Like you didn't know? You said it yourself, Skye..."
She frowned regretfully. "What I said to you that day was awful. It wasn't fair of me. And yes, maybe I did know, but it– I wasn't uncomfortable... I..." She hesitated, before admitting, "I was in love with you too. I just– you deserved better than me. You still do."
I blinked back my tears as I studied her closely, with confusion. There was no way that was true. How could she have thought such a thing?
She stepped forward, slowly lifting her hand to touch my face, gauging my reaction. When I didn't push her away or step back, she cupped my cheek, thumb stroking my cheekbone, and my whole body felt like it was on fire.
"I wanted you to kiss me," she said softly, eyes flickering between mine. "Last time, I– I thought you were going to."
I blinked, taken aback. "What?"
She frowned, looking down momentarily as she said, "I didn't want you to go on that fucking date. But I wasn't going to be selfish and stop you. I just– I care about you a lot, Y/N. You mean the world to me. You always have."
Rendered speechless, I didn't know what to think or say. She'd reacted in a way that I'd never anticipated – never dreamed of – nor thought was possible.
Her dark eyes found mine once more, too close to be anything but a blur of golden flecks.
"I don't want to be friends either," she murmured, before pressing her lips to mine.
My eyes widened with surprise and then she tugged me closer and I instinctively relaxed into her, eyes fluttering close. Her lips were warm and tasted like berries, moving against mine in a perfect rhythm. My hands fell to her hips, goosebumps dancing all over my skin, and I couldn't seem to remember a single thing prior to this.
When we pulled apart for air, every part of my body felt aflame. My lips were tingling and she was still so close, too close for me to find words.
"Maybe things would've been different if I'd been honest in the first place," she spoke softly, breath tickling my lips, only reminding me of the feeling of hers against them.
I didn't know what to say, too stunned by the truth of her feelings.
"I missed you," she admitted, hand lowering from my cheek and to my chest. "It was only two weeks, but I thought I'd ruined everything."
"I'm sorry," I managed to get out, not intending to hurt her.
She shook her head. "Don't be," she assured me, before hugging me tightly.
I let out a quiet breath and wrapped my arms around her, sinking into her embrace. It was still a lot to accept – that she'd loved me too. That she did, even now.
"You haven't said much," she noticed, pulling back with a stifled concern.
"It's just a surprise," I shared, not wanting her to second guess anything. "I really thought... I thought you only ever saw me as a friend. Still trying to process it."
She smiled a little, understanding. "Yeah... I wanted to tell you sooner. Years ago. I almost did. Many times. But everything got bad and it just..." She sighed regretfully. "I didn't want to pull you down with me. That version of me wasn't good enough for you."
I frowned, looking between her eyes. "That's not true."
"It is," she said knowingly. "But it's okay. I want to be better than that girl."
"You are," I said sincerely, taking her hand in mine and squeezing it gently.
Her eyes twinkled as she smiled hopefully. "I hope so. For your sake."
I couldn't help but smile too, touched by how much she cared.
"My tour kicks off at the end of the week, but I'd really like to take you out on a proper date before then," she said, taking my other hand in hers.
"It can wait," I reassured her, "I know it's full on for the next few days–"
"No, no, just one," she cut me off eagerly, squeezing my hands. "Before I have to go and won't see you for ages."
I stifled the urge to laugh. "Okay, but if it's too much, Skye, I can wait until–"
Before I could finish, she leaned forward and kissed me, surprising me for the second time. I was too taken aback to react, and then she pulled away and I felt my cheeks heating up with embarrassment.
"That's got to be my new favourite way of shutting you up," she said with a satisfied grin.
I groaned quietly, flustered, and she laughed at my dismay. I suppose there could have been worse ways.

Unwanted 5
Warnings: non/dubcon, bullying, insults, body insecurity, perversion, and other dark elements. Not all kinks or triggers are tagged. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Summary: You’re used to being unwanted, but a strange man might just convince you that’s a good thing.
Note: this is a sequel to Unsolicited/Unexpected, but with a different reader. This is Lloyd’s sequel. Peaches is flourishing somewhere else.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.
You run away from the uber and nearly crash into the front door. You scramble to get the keys in the lock as you refuse to look back at the car idling at the curb. You shake as you twist so hard your wrist throbs. You swing inside and just as quickly turn the lock.
You heave and turn your back to the door. You can't believe what just happened. What he did with you right there in the back seat. Your eyes tinge with hot tears and your nose tingles.
“What’s it this time?” Derrick scoffs as he appears in a pair of loose grey sweats and oversized hoodie. You can’t tell that he’s been sleeping all day. “You’re such a cry baby.”
“Nothing,” you turn and drop your bag on the side table. “It’s cold, that’s it.”
“Sure,” he peels open the bag of chips in his hands.
You shrug. He doesn’t care. He just likes an easy target.
You unzip your coat and hang it. You leave your boots on the mat and swipe up your bag. You tramp past him and up to your room.
You shut the door and throw your bag on the end of your bed. You’re restless. Unsettled by that strange man. Why is he bothering you? Of all people. How did he tack onto you. You’re nothing. You’re insignificant. Maybe that’s why. Just like Derrick, he knows you’re weak.
Your phone vibrates in your back pocket. You flinch. It’s probably your mom ready to bitch you out about the dishes or dinner. You slip the cell free and check it. Private number.
You answer, it could be your manager.
“Hello?” You quaver into the speaker.
“Mmm, there’s that caked-up cutie,” the gravely purr makes you shudder. “I was just thinking of you. Again.”
“No,” you exclaim and hang up. You throw your phone and pace around. Why? Oh, maybe it’s all your own fault.
You’re used to being unnoticed. Being the forgotten one. And for so long, you just wanted to be seen. You dreamed of some guy way out of your league picking you out of the crowd and telling you you’re special. But not like this. No, never this. That man is a creep.
But who are you to be picky?
No! No. Don’t do that. You’d rather be alone. The way he talks about you, the way he looks at you, even you can see that he’s no good. He’s just a pervert and you’ve seen enough Tiktoks to know better.
Your phone vibrates again. You ignore it. That’s your only option.
You leave your room and your cell. You go down and start on dinner. At least your mom won’t have anything to rant about, but you’re sure she’ll think of something.
You glaze the chicken breast and put it in the oven. You start on the potatoes, seasoning them and adding lemon wedges to the pan. You slide those on the middle rack and rinse asparagus. The front door opens and closes as you focus on the simple tasks over the complicated thoughts nipping at your ears.
“Smells good,” your father chimes as he enters, then clears his throat, “oh, your mother isn’t home?”
“Not yet,” you look at the time. You know she had her office holiday party but it is getting late.
“Hm, well, put some aside for her,” he says. “Is it almost done? I’m starving.”
“Yeah, twenty minutes,” you answer.
He doesn’t say anything else before he leaves. You hear him upstairs as he gets changed then comes back down to flip on the television. Your brother’s surround speakers blare through the other wall as he games on his PC.
The front door opens again. Your mother’s shrill voice carries through with a gust.
“Oh, that’s so wonderful,” she preens. “How sweet of you.”
You put the asparagus in the pan and pause. Who is she talking to? You turn with the spatula in hand and near the doorway. You peer down the hall and see a broad set of shoulders. Wait, you know the back of that head.
“I mean, much more considerate than my own daughter. She’s never mentioned you,” she touches his chest as you see the smirk on her face. You grimace.
“I think I spoiled the surprise,” Lloyd says. “We were just talking earlier and she told me to come for dinner.”
“She did? Well, isn’t that spontaneous. So unlike her,” your mom muses wryly. “Just like having a secret boyfriend. Older too.”
“What’s going on?” Your dad’s growl wafts through and you shrunk back behind the doorframe and listen with dread.
How are they not freaking out? This weirdo forty-year-old is just waltzing right into your house. This isn’t happening.
“Hello, sir,” Lloyd says before he gives his name, “I’m here to see your daughter.”
“That would explain the flowers.”
“Scotch for you and wine for the missus, of course,” Lloyd explains.
“Hm, that’s... top shelf,” you dad comments. Of course, he would care more about the fancy bottle than his own daughter. “Mitch,” he introduces himself.
Your mom hollers your name, “you have companyyyyyy.”
You cringe into yourself. How did he do it? How has he escalated everything so quickly? And why? Because you hung up on him? Because you closed your eyes when he--
Ew!
She calls you again. You put your head back and gather what little courage you have. You turn and step into the hallway.
“I’m just cooking dinner,” you say.
“Get over here,” your dad demands. You know better than to disobey.
“So when were you going to tell us?” Your mother prompts.
“Tell you what?” You look at Lloyd sheepishly as he spins to face you and grins.
“About us, sweetie,” he holds out a bouquet of pink roses, “oh, shoot, did I get the wrong day? I’m always forgetting these things, you know? I’m an executive and I have a pretty full calendar--”
“Executive?” Your father echoes.
Your mother hums, impressed.
“We didn’t...” you try to summon a lie but you’re speechless. “Ummmm.”
“I don’t know why you felt you had to hide us,” your mom challenges.
“I didn’t? What?”
“Well, it is about time, isn’t it, Enid?” Your dad intones.
You gape at Lloyd as he shoves the flowers towards you, “these will need some water, sweetie.”
You reach for them and look between your parents. You plead silently for help. Aren’t they supposed to protect you? Shouldn’t they be concerned that there’s an old man bringing you gifts?
“Oh, dear,” your mom says, “do put them in crystal. They are so pretty.”
“Just like her mother,” Lloyd adds.
“Eh,” your father grunts playfully, “you could at least pour me a drink before you start flirting with my wife.”

older boyfriend wade wilson headcanons || suggestion by anonymous
pairing: wade wilson (deadpool) x genderneutral!reader
author note: let me know if you guys want me to make this into an actual fic!! also would love to make more headcanons in the future featuring logan or wade so please feel free to drop me an ask!
wade’s protective streak is amplified by the age gap. he knows you’re young and still figuring life out, so he’s hyper-aware of anything or anyone that might cause you stress. whether it’s a professor being unfair or a creep at a party, wade’s ready to swoop in. “do you want me to talk to them? or, y’know, scare the crap out of them? either works.”
wade’s surprisingly good at helping you study—mostly because he makes it fun. he’ll quiz you with ridiculous impressions, draw crude diagrams that somehow make sense, or turn your flashcards into a card game. if you’re struggling with a tough class, he’s your biggest cheerleader, reminding you of how smart you are even when you doubt yourself.
wade can’t stand seeing you stressed about money, especially when you’re juggling work and school. he’ll casually slip extra cash into your wallet or “accidentally” order way too much takeout so you have leftovers for days. if you protest, he brushes it off. “relax, baby, i’m just investing in my future sugar parent.”
wade constantly jokes about the age gap, calling himself a “cradle robber” or making exaggerated comments about how “back in his day,” things were different. it’s all in good fun, though, and he loves how your younger energy keeps him on his toes. “you’re like my very own personal time machine, babe. you make me feel young again. except for my knees—those still hate me.”
despite his humor, wade sometimes wrestles with insecurity about the age difference. he worries he’s too damaged or experienced for you and questions whether he’s holding you back. he doesn’t voice it often, but it’s clear in the way he sometimes pulls away or gets quiet when he sees you thriving in your college world.
wade is your rock during stressful times. when finals season rolls around, he’s there to remind you to take breaks, eat, and sleep. he might even bribe you with snacks or cuddles to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. “you can’t ace that exam if you’re running on fumes, babe. now eat this chimichanga before i cry.”
wade loves whisking you away from the monotony of college life for spontaneous dates. whether it’s midnight runs to a 24-hour diner or an impromptu road trip, he makes sure you’re not missing out on fun just because you’re busy with school.
while wade doesn’t want to overstep, he occasionally drops bits of wisdom from his own life experiences. if you’re struggling with a decision or feeling lost, he’s there to listen and gently nudge you in the right direction. “look , i’ve made enough dumb choices for the both of us. let me save you some trouble, okay?”
wade tries not to let it show, but he sometimes feels a little insecure about your college friends, especially if they’re closer to your age. he won’t stop you from hanging out with them, but he might throw in a sarcastic comment or two. “sure, go hang with your study group. but if any of them so much as *looks* at you funny, i’m calling in reinforcements. and by reinforcements, i mean me.”
wade tries to keep you at arm’s length sometimes, convinced that you deserve someone less complicated, someone who hasn’t been through what he has. but the more he tries to push you away, the more he finds himself drawn back to you. you have a way of breaking down his walls, and it terrifies him—because he wants you, but he also wants to protect you from him.
wade makes an effort to understand your college life, even if it’s wildly different from his world. he’ll attend your events, help with projects, and even try to keep up with your academic lingo (though it usually ends in a joke). “So, gpa stands for ‘great partner award,’ right? because you definitely deserve that.”
wade is constantly hyping you up, especially when you feel overwhelmed or unsure of yourself. “you’re the smartest, most badass person i know, and i know me. you’ve got this, kiddo.”
when you graduate, wade is your loudest, proudest supporter. he makes a huge deal out of it, throwing an over-the-top celebration just for you. “you did it, smarty-pants! now, can we frame your degree and put it in the bathroom? best reading material ever.”
despite his doubts and insecurities, wade’s love for you is clear in everything he does. from the way he kisses your forehead when you’re stressed to the ridiculous lengths he’ll go to make you smile, he’s all in—even if he sometimes worries he doesn’t deserve to be.

Hello. I will call you Phoenix because that sounds very cool and you are cool and I platonically like you and enjoy your works.
Anyways I have come to request an all mercs + Pauling if you’re comfortable and want to write that. (If not maybe just Medic +whoever else you want to write for.) with a reader who has Schizophrenia? I’ve been going through some moments with it and the TF2 mercs are my comfort characters and your blog just feels nice.
If you aren’t comfortable with this feel free to block me or just ignore this ask entirely! Thank you very much!
A/n: GAHHH ILY PLATONICALLY TOO 🫶 ty for sending in a request, I’m so glad you enjoy my works! I try my best! I made sure I did some more extensive reasearch about schizophrenia/the real experience with it before I wrote this, please let me know if I should make some edits! (And other ppl reading this, also don’t be afraid to send an ask about making edits!)
Mercs + Pauling w/ reader w/ Schizophrenia (headcannons)
(Platonic or romantic!)
Pauling:
- will have some guilt about how she works all the time and can’t be there for you
- might send some gifts and call you in between jobs/travel, asking how you’ve been, asking if now was a good time or if you needed a distraction
- as soon as she gets the chance to come see you, she takes it
- asks over and over if you’re okay, because it’s been keeping her anxious on her jobs
- she’ll comfort you with sweet words over the phone if you call her for help
- reminds you to take your meds
Scout:
- absolutely clueless
- buys into stereotypes
- “the voices” type shit
- this guy is gonna need a thorough explanation as to how you feel all the time
- probably asks you how you’re feeling all the time too
- might be a little too quick to do his sneak-attack hugs
- likes hugging you a lot, so that could offer some grounding if you’re having delusions/hallucinations
- words of affirmation 10/10
- expect a lot of words…
- speaking of a lot of words, need an auditory distraction? The scout-o-matic is here! (Only $69.99)
Soldier:
- clueless prick
- thinks you’re some spy or something
- it might take the entirety of the team to convince him otherwise and try to explain it to him with your help
- might also buy into the stereotypes
- if you say you hear or see something that man is going to run around screaming with his shovel trying to chase them off for you (believes they’re real, but only you have magic powers to see them or something)
Medic:
- #1 meds administer
- does not buy into stereotypes, since he may know something about it
- (fw researching you heavy)
- dude is taking notes as you’re straight up not having it
- jk he goes to comfort you if he can after a bit
- you WILL be staying in the infirmary with him (sorry I don’t make the rules)
- will look into techniques to help you
Demo:
- you already know he’s offering alcohol to take the edge off/distract
- you have tried many times to tell him that that will not work
- if you had alcohol with your meds things would not end well
- offers himself as a napping space for being really exhausted (I’d take him up on that)
- he might already be passed out when you go to ask if you two can nap
- might wanna just scootch in there
Heavy:
- will protect you from the bad things (or at least try)
- if someone hurt pookie that’s no good it will not do
- offers protective bear hugs if you need something/somewhere/someone to cuddle up to and be distracted/grounded
Pyro:
- if you’re describing what you see to them, or have in the past, they might try to draw them with good old fashioned crayons and printer paper
- also schizophrenic 😭
- huge empathy from them
- but uhm they might also just straight up not know they’re schizophrenic, so bro could just be like “same”
- alright enough Gen z talk from me (there can never be enough)
- even if just hanging out with them makes you feel more comfortable
Sniper:
- probably feels bad for you
- opts to hang out indoors if hallucinations/delusions are not fun outside
- comforts you when you think you see or hear something
Spy:
- if he’s attempting to be subtle you might expect some noise cancelling headphones and other helpful tools show up at your door
- if you need a break from certain rooms he’s definitely gonna offer his smoking room
- gets you pill organizers for your meds if that’s something you struggle with
- offers lots of gentle comfort
- let’s be honest, this guy was clueless before you started talking to him about it and what it was
- now he just wants to offer help
Engie:
- probably pities you a bit
- gives you that Texan hospitality but may take a bit to understand you better
- will 10/10 make you something if there’s something he can make to help and if it’s possible
- gonna try everything in his power to make your life easier
————————
Hopefully I did okay 😭 ty for sending in your request!!

so angel told this guy what happened, that much was clear enough. he wondered how long the two of them had been together this morning, if it was long enough for angel to tell darius all that happened last night. he must have said something if darius was worried enough to say going back home wasn't smart. angel was free to tell anybody his own story but garam always tried his best to keep his private life private. knowing that there was a very strong chance that darius knew more than he should bothered garam. he watched as the other man took a hold of angel's arm, strange. did he really think garam was that bad of a person that he couldn't let the two of them be alone together? he was so focused on darius that he hadn't noticed angel taking a hold of his hand. he was quick to look down before looking back at darius and offering him a sort of mischievous smile, as if to say i won. that smile didn't stay for very long after angel began leading him back to his room. upon immediate entry of angel's bedroom, garam crossed his arms tightly over his chest. "he doesn't think you're safe with me." and maybe he wasn't. garam knew how persistent his ex was, he was sure the man would hang around until garam gave him a chance to speak face to face. but he was too afraid to talk to his ex in person. garam was so sure the man wouldn't lay a finger on him but he had. he wasn't sure what his ex was capable of anymore. he was quiet for a moment, just staring up to angel as he tried to figure out what to say next. he ultimately sighed. "fine, i'll stay with you but i don't want that guy in my apartment. if he's who you chose to help, he can stay outside." he stated before his eyes sort of lit up and he smirked. "he can be our little watch dog while i grab my things." garam thought he was being clever, not hiding the fact that he didn't like this guy. "i don't care who you talk about your feelings for me with," that was a given, garam couldn't do anything about that, "but i don't like when your friends talk shit about me behind my back. i don't like when anybody talks about me, he doesn't even know me." it really did upset him knowing that somebody he considered so close to him was talking about him but since this situation also involved angel, garam didn't expect him to keep quiet. "and if he's going to hang around here, i'll be in here or the guest room. he knows too much about me already, i feel weird." it was different with angel knowing the details of his relationship with his now-ex, he trusted angel but garam didn't know darius. there was no trust there.
Angel’s head snapped to the direction of what sounded like Garam’s voice. Shit. He thought his best friend was sound asleep. He stared at him for a moment wondering what all he heard. Angel opened his mouth to answer but Darius beat him to it, “We both know you can’t go home. Going to your parents would be smarter” Angel’s head snapped toward Darius as his eyebrows stitched together. “Do not speak for me!” Angel spat out anger in his voice. “Garam, I’m sorry you had to hear that. Can we go in the bedroom and talk?” Angel looked over to his best friend watching his body language closely. The last thing he wanted was for his best friend to leave. Especially, if his destination was back to his place where his ex was probably waiting for him. Angel quickly turned off the burners on the stove before taking a step toward Garam before he was stopped by a jerk of his arm. His eyebrows stitched together once more as he looked to his other house guest. They shared this long stare between them before Angel snatched his arm away. The stare down continued, “Maybe you are the one that should go.” Angel grumbled through clenched teeth. Darius gaze shifted to Garam glaring at him over Angel’s shoulder. “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again” Darius glared softened as he looked back toward the raven-haired man. Angel sighed and grabbed Garam’s hand leading him back into the bedroom. Pulling the man down the hallway Angel muttered profanities under his breath. Once inside he closed the door behind them letting out a sigh tussling his bedhead, “I’m sorry, his anger is toward your ex but he shouldn’t take it out on you. I’m going to speak with him.” Angel said calmly rubbing the back of his neck. He didn’t think Darius would be so forward with his feelings. “After…after everything happened that night I ended up at his place. Ever since then he’s been a little over protective. He just doesn’t know you. Don’t take his words to heart...” Angel rambled on hoping to fix the situation. “Please don’t leave Garam.” Angel couldn’t stand to lose Garam or Darius. Even with him angry at the other man he had been a great friend to him. He didn’t know where he’d be these past couple of weeks without him. On the other hand Garam was everything to him. He wasn’t prepared to have to choose. But deep down he knew who would win that battle. Angel stepped close to Garam, “I really want you to stay here. I need my best friend right now.” Angel smiled placing his hands on his friends shoulders. It was hard to read Garam sometimes. Angel was worried Darius had scared him off.

Fangirl
-> Akaashi Keiji x Reader
in which Y/n's energetic senior introduced her to a pretty setter to be his friend. ( but she's secretly a fangirl of that setter?!)
masterlist!(。•̀ᴗ-)✧
(a follow is very much appreciated 💙)
-> Akaashi Keiji wasn’t a sociable person. The only friends he had were his volleyball club members. Bokuto being the great friend he is, got worried for Keiji knowing that after he graduates, he would have no one to hang out with.
"I care about 'cha, Akaashi." The usually energetic ace rested his arms on the frame of the corridor window before turning back to his friend. "I mean it."
"Bokuto-san, I'll be fine. Besides, it's only one more year." Akaashi replied in his usual mundane tone.
Not wanting to give in, Bokuto swung his arm around his friend's shoulder. "Still, I don't feel easy..." The gray-haired senior thought for a moment then exclaimed, "One week! I'll find someone in one week! And if I don’t, I’ll take your word and accept the fact that you’re gonna be fine.”
So there he was, standing outside two classrooms away from his own. Akaashi sighed, “Bokuto-san, i hope you really didn’t gaslight anyone this time.”
“Hey! What kind of person do you think i am?!” Bokuto frowned, “plus, i really did find someone!” His gloomy expression turned cheerful in an instant. “Oh really?” Akaashi slurred his words sarcastically. It was hard to find someone who can actually handle Bokuto’s mood swings as good as him. “Stay here, Akaashi.” With that, the gray-haired senior entered the classroom with his usually greeting.
“HEY! HEY! HEY! Y/n-chan!” Were the only few words Akaashi could make it from their conversation. He leaned his back on the window glass and tilted his head up. Yet another exhausting sigh was let out from his lips. He had a perfect balance between schoolwork, training and sleep, so why does he feel so uncomfortable?
Just then, Akaashi heard a crowd of girls squealing. The setter had forced himself not to look towards their direction, knowing that it wasn’t his problem.
He lied
A brunette with two pigtails stepped forward from the crowd, the other girls cheering her on. She stopped in front of Akaashi, her eyes nervously shifted to the floor, “Akaashi, these are for you!” Her hands stretched out, shoving a bag of cookies and a letter which was all too familiar to him. “Please take it!” Akaashi felt a lump in his throat. He wanted to say ‘no thanks’ but the image of the girl bursting to tears made him flash a smile and muttered a thanks.
The brunette rushed back to the crowd of girls who showered her with questions.
“Akaashi’s really kind, right?”
“What did he say? What did he smell like?”
Slowly, they strolled away from Akaashi’s view. He hated the attention. He hated how guys from other classes would shoot daggers at him whenever he tried to interact with them. If Akaashi had been less noticeable, would he have no problem making friends of his own?
His thoughts were cut off when Bokuto came out of the classroom dragging a h/c-haired girl by her arm, “Akaashi, meet Y/n! Y/n, meet Akaashi!” He flashed a radiant smile. “Hope the both of you would get along yeah?” Y/n and Akaashi exchanged greetings and followed Bokuto around the school.
Akaashi couldn’t help but take small glances at her the whole time Bokuto was explaining things to her. He wondered if she was just like the group of girls earlier, a fangirl of his.
Could they ever be friends?
It wasn't until Bokuto left the pair to chat with his other friends for them to talk to each other. "Bokuto-senpai really is an extrovert, huh." The h/c-haired girl chuckled while the raven-haired boy simply nodded in response.
Her smile was just as bright as Bokuto's yet not noticeable by many. Her e/c eyes met his deep blue ones. They stared at each other till Y/n broke the silence, "So, you're in the volleyball club?"
Akaashi nodded
"what position?"
"setter."
"is it fun?"
"more or less."
Y/n shoots more simple questions which were quickly answered by short boring answers. "You know, Bokuto was actually my first friend in high school. I think it was... first-year? he came up to me when I was checking out the clubs." she reminisced, the corner of her lips curled upwards. "He wouldn't stop bugging me to join the boys volleyball team as thier manager. I was scared shitless by him and went to join the journalism club instead."
Akaashi's mouth formed and 'o'. he didn't know what to say. Y/n darted her eyes out the window, then turned back to look at him, "So for Bokuto's sake, I'm willing to open myself up to meet new people."
The raven-haired boy widened his eyes. After all, Bokuto really did look out for him — in one way or another.
"Hello, I'm Akaashi Keiji. Nice to meet you." Akaashi reintroduced himself, stretching his hand out.
Y/n flitched at the sudden warm gesture, her eyes softened. "L/n Y/n, likewise." her hand grasped his with bright smile plastered across her face as she shook it gently.
just like that, the school year ended.
Groups of students entered the classroom with their friends, laughers and chatters quickly filled their surroundings as they catch up with one another after the school break. It was finally Akaashi’s third-year in high school. Seeing the big smiles on everyone’s face, he sighed. Bokuto had graduated, leaving him alone at campus.
There was no one to talk to. No one to share his concerns for anymore. Akaashi had to admit, it was pretty boring without his loud, energetic, and cheerful senior to bug him around.
The raven-haired boy admired the view outside the classroom window. Just then, the image of the h/c-haired girl flashed across his eyes. It has been weeks? Months? Since Akaashi saw her. Yet her smile was still as radiant as the sun in his mind. Akaashi shook his head, there was no way Y/n would—
He was seconds away from finishing his thoughts when a girl stood in front of the classroom’s back door, panting. “Akaashi!” Y/n screamed at the top of her lungs.
His rounded eyes met hers
“Come on, lets each lunch together!” Swiftly, she grabbed his arm and dragged him out of his classroom. Students in the hallway were surprised by the new duo in sight.
Especially Y/n.
“Isn’t that Akaashi?”
“Huhhhh who’s that beside him?”
Despite that murmurs around them, Y/n continued to drag Akaashi down to the vending machine.
Akaashi cocked his head and raised an eyebrow. He finally asked, “What are you doing?”
The h/c-haired girl simply chuckled, “What do you think I’m doing?” Before Akaashi could respond to that rhetorical question, she continued, “I’m hanging out with a friend, duh!”
Hearing that response, Akaashi couldn’t help but frown. Her words ran through his mind for a moment.
“Friend.” She said.
And for once, there was a genuine smile on Akaashi’s face.
And for once, it wasn’t Bokuto or volleyball that made him feel that way.
“Don’t mind, don’t mind!” One of Fukurodani’s middle blocker assured the team.
They were having a practice match with a nearby school that wasn't as strong as Fukurodani, yet they were leading by 4 points.
“Hey Akaashi! get your head in the game!” Another second-year middle blocker called out.
Akaashi was trying to.
He was trying to block out the squeaky squeals from the group of girls above them. They were holding cutouts of words that said ‘Akaashi you can do it!’ And ‘Akaashi we love you!’ The cutouts weren’t an issue, but the screams they’d make whenever Akaashi was about to set the ball made him want to tear the whole place up.
And just like that, Fukurodani — a powerhouse school, had lost to a mere neighborhood school.
The blue-eyed setter left the school grounds in a hurry. He had promised his friend, Y/n, to walk home together but she was nowhere to be found.
Did she leave already? Did i take too long?
Akaashi didn’t know why there was a sharp pain in his heart.
Feeling dejected, he began his way to the bus stop. Usually he would head the opposite direction with the h/c-haired girl, walking her home almost everyday. Just as he was about to cross the street, Akaashi saw a familiar figure heading towards the convince store in front of him. It looked just like her.
The figure then looked out the glass wall, making eye contact with him. Her eyes widened and ran out of the building, “Akaashi!” She exclaimed, waving both her hands in the air. “I thought you went home already!” The blinking green man appeared on the pedestrian light, the setter let out a sigh of relief and smiled before crossing. He didn’t know why his cheeks turned red, It must’ve been the cold air right?
“Did you just got dismissed?”
“Yes, coach gave us an earful.” Akaashi lied. It wasn’t ‘us’ it was just him, His coach could tell that he was distracted the whole game by the way he would mess up his sets and serves. Y/n pulled him by the sleeves of his team jacket and went back into the convenience store. “It’s a pity that you lost… buy anything you want, my treat!”
After multiple insisting, they both sat down on the eating area with a cup of spicy instant noodles each. After one big slurp, Y/n hastily opened her bang and pulled out her wallet to buy herself a drink. Unknowingly, she had left her bag wide open.
As Y/n was choosing her drink, Akaashi couldn’t help but notice the bright pink words written on a piece of cardboard. It was way too familiar to him.
‘Akaashi we love you!’ It said.
He frowned. What was this doing inside her bag?
At first, Akaashi refused to believe it. He refused to believe that his closest friend would scream and kick her feet every time he interacts with her. Y/n knows how badly he hated his fangirls, so much till he wished that he could just be invisible. So why? Out of everyone, why must she be the one to have that pink sign that waves above him whenever he plays volleyball?
He didn’t know what to feel.
Betrayed? Sad? Furious?
Akaashi placed his pair of chopsticks down and stared into the horizon, eyes narrowing as a train of thoughts ran through his mind. Not long after, the said girl returned with a bottle of cola and the boy simply acted like nothing had happened.
“I didn’t expect it to be THIS spicy, you get what I’m saying?” She told him, eyes still on her red flaming noodles. Akaashi hummed in response, eyes glued to her instead of his own cup of noodles.
He observed each and every one of her actions. He was surprised as he found them… cute? But at the same time confused.
It was the same Y/n that he knew. Not some squealing girl asking him to accept chocolates.
ᯓᡣ𐭩
The pair slowly made their way to the bus stop, walking side by side. Y/n’s lips were swollen red due to the noodles that she ate. Akaashi wanted to break the silence but there was a lump in his throat, making him unable to do so.
The sky cackled and turned deep blue. It started with a light drizzle that soon turned into a downpour. The two quickly ran to the nearest shelter.
“Did you bring an umbrella?” Y/n asked as she stretched her right hand to feel the rain water.
The blue-eyed boy hesitated before shaking his head.
He didn’t know why. He clearly had one that was big enough for both of them if they squeezed together. So why didn’t he lie?
Without questioning, the girl smiled and stepped away from the shelter. Her hair and clothes were soon drenched within minutes. She simply couldn’t care less. There were puddles all over the floor as she spun around them, soaking her shoes and socks in the process. Akaashi’s lips curled up. He thought she looked pretty. Doesn't everyone think their friend is pretty?
“Y/n, your books will get wet.” Akaashi called out, his voice muffled by the sound of rain droplets hitting the ground.
Y/n seemed to get the hint and ran back to him, water dripping from her whole body. ”My bag’s waterproof, it should be fine! Come join me Akaashi, it’s fun!” As soon as those words left her mouth, the clouds above began to part and the rain eased off.
“Oh- Nevermind then…” the h/c-girl started to squeeze her uniform dry, “Let’s go, It’s starting to get late.” With that, Y/n and Akaashi returned to how they were before the rain had started. Side by side, they reached the bus stop.
Like always, Y/n started a conversation with the boy sitting beside her. She expected his replies to be as monotone as usual. However, Akaashi had asked a question in return. It was a first.
Before Y/n could answer his attempt to continue the conversation, her bus came. Y/n stood up and bid Akaashi goodbye.
When she was about to board the bus, she had a sudden feeling of warmth draped across her shoulders. It was the Fukurodani volleyball team jacket. Her cheeks went red with embarrassment as she turned to Akaashi. “T-Thank you..” She stuttered and rushed into the back of the bus.
The bus door shuts and the engine whirred. Akaashi’s eyes soften as he thought about her smile. His eyes were still glued on the moving bus.
He didn’t know what he was feeling.
But what he did know, for the first time ever, he was glad to have girls fawning over him if it meant that she was one of them.

Spirit World, Ride the Cyclone and Death. A weird comparative analysis
Gonna combine my musical nerd and cape comics fixation together for a rambling meta thought. I've been reflecting on how taboo the topic of death is in media after getting into Ride The Cyclone (highly recommend watching the slime tutorial and Waiting in the Wings' documentary on it) but also contrasting that musical with how Spirit World handled similar topics.
Both stories cover characters whose lives were cut short from a tragic circumstance, but while Cyclone directly talks frankly about how each character uniquely grieves over their lost life (and eventually accepts death)- Spirit World uses death as largely an aesthetic to a generic fantasy superhero adventure.
[spoilers for Ride the Cyclone and Spirit World]
Spirit World is about non-binary, half dead half living Envoy Xanthe Zhou, as they go into the Spirit World with John Constantine to rescue Cassandra Cain Batgirl. They eventually go toe to toe with the spirit of a bitter dead poet.
Ride the Cyclone is about 6 choir teenagers who die in a roller coaster accident in their small town. In the afterlife, they are given the chance to vote which one of them they believe should be resurrected.
For Spirit World, do we even know how Xanthe feels about being "half dead"? What does that even mean? They died as (what looks like) a 3 year old, and have clearly aged 15 more years since then. So they can age? Do they need to eat or drink (they're seen with a drink in a Pride comic)? Xanthe keeps mentioning they're half dead and half living, but the comic doesn't seem to want to discuss what that means. How would Xanthe feel that they were essentially given a job as an Envoy the minute they died as a very young child? Was this even a choice?
We've already covered the numerous plot holes in Xanthe Zhou's poorly thought out backstory so I won't go over that again. But honestly apart from the thematically loose "the dead shouldn't be forgotten" moral, a lot of how death is presented in Spirit World feels so superficial. When Xanthe is formally introduced as this cool character with a giant sword hanging around a gravesite, fighting all these hopping vampire creatures... this scene would play out the same if you swapped the setting with a forest and zombies as bad guys.
The Spirit World is less an afterlife for the spirits to move onto and more an MMORPG setting for our superheroes to travel across and fight generic evil beings and encounter eviler, bigger, boss battles at the end. Then there's the poet clout villain whose problems are just easily solved by Xanthe promising to remember her. I've already covered what a lost opportunity thematically this character was in my last Xanthe essay, but this time I want to contrast her with Ride the Cyclone's Jane Doe. I also want to compare Xanthe with Noel Gruber afterwards.
Ride the Cyclone's musical numbers follow each character performing a song reflecting their wishes, and musings on life (this sounds depressing but the musical handles all this with comedy and wit), hoping to prove themselves as worthy of a second chance at life. Of the characters, Jane Doe is the mysterious odd one out. The accident decapitated her, leaving her to enter the after life with no memories and the people of the living unable to identify her.
You might see where I'm going with this. So in Spirit World, Wan Yujing was this famous poet mourned by an entire empire. She only goes monster mode when a handwave-y "time erodes all" happens in the Spirit World and she is eventually forgotten- so she becomes desperate to demand to be reincarnated by the Jade Court. Because her clout ran out. Again, I already made the critique in my previous essay that this villain would better link to our protagonist if she was a queer poet whose poetry was being purposefully straight washed as an act of queer historical erasure. But I want to bring up how truly unsympathetic this villain is. She gets Shakespeare levels of clout but still demands more because she isn't getting reincarnated fast enough. Xanthe promises that as an immortal "half dead half living" person that they will remember Wan Yujing, so she too can be immortal in some way.
I think about all the Jane Doe-s in the Spirit World who don't get to be famous poets that have Empires remembering who they were. People who died anonymously without a past. In Cyclone, the main character chooses Jane Doe as the person who should be brought back to life. Our cast of teens come to terms with the fact that while it's tragic that their lives ended shortly, they conclude "to say that if one dies young, they die needlessly... that is to discount the years we had. We had a life, she didn't. That's my vote." Since Jane Doe has no memory of who she is, it's only fair that she is given that second chance.
I get that Spirit World is choosing these "larger than life" characters as villains, but it's at the expense of their own supposed themes. Of all the people to die and face off our hero as the villain, a character who's essentially an influencer but somehow has an entire empire forget about her anyway feels thematically hollow.
Modern Superhero comics are suffering from a specific problem right now; they're not really about anything. Characters don't feel like people with interior lives informed by the context of who they are. Class, race and bigotry are only touched upon as lightly as possible. Queer characters are now Pride ads with no personhood or flaws. They punch gentrified crime and fight for no one in particular. Even recent adapted media such as My Adventures with Superman and Caped Crusader follow this. Superman fights white-washed xenophobia, while Batman fights gentrified, white-washed classicism. It's why comics like Superman Smashes the Klan, Catwoman Lonely City and Alan Scott Green Lantern stand out so much. It's been a while since these characters talked about anything that matters. Don't get me wrong, slop that's about nothing exists in every industry. But when these characters and worlds historically used to have more bite- it's especially obvious.
If I could be playfully conspiracy theory-like for a second; I believe Xanthe Zhou was pitched so that DC Comics can buff out their Pride Anthology or AAPI anthology with a new younger character. The company will give this character one limited series, but that's it. Xanthe will appear in the larger DC universe whenever big magic plots happen, but that's it. Maybe they'll get a YA graphic novel. I would love to be proven wrong, but the problems with Xanthe are baked in the dough.
Because they don't feel like a person, Xanthe feels more like an industry planted Pride ad. They're designed to be the most palatable and marketable image of Asian androgyny. They literally have no flaws to grow out of, and their backstory makes no sense. They weren't built to be a sustainable solo character.
So I want to contrast Xanthe Zhou against Noel Gruber from Ride the Cyclone. Because they're both queer characters whose lives were cut short at a young age.
In a dramatic lament, Noel Gruber expresses how if he had a chance to live, he'd want to live the horrible cinematic messy life of a French sex worker woman in post-war France. He struggled as the only gay boy in a small town and never got to kiss a boy before he died. It's a look into a queer life that could've been lived, one with all the messy texture and self destruction Noel couldn't have but desires. We get to see how death and queerness intersect into rich, unflattering, gender-messy themes. "I want to be that fucked up girl." Noel sings.
But what's Xanthe's deal? They died as a 3 year old, got brought back, avoided their family at all costs for 15 years, and then had a transphobic confrontation with their family when they're invited to dinner way later. If Xanthe grew up in a transphobic household, how did they ever figure out they were non-binary when they were 3? Could they even verbalize it? Or did they instead figure out their queerness after they died? But how is that possible when they already held a level of familiar resentment towards their family's transphobia as if they've had several fights about it? It's hard to picture a 3 year old having multiple heated debates about gender with their parents for this level of resentment to make any sense.
Details aside, how does Xanthe's queerness intersect with themes of death and grief? Well, it just doesn't. This scene ends with Xanthe's sister telling them that she bothered remembering them even though their parents moved on from their death (which makes no sense since the parents wanted to have dinner with a random 18 year old they correctly assumed was their long dead "daughter" but whatever). Honestly, the only reason queerness exists in this family drama is so that Xanthe has a tense relationship with their family. The story would be exactly the same if Xanthe was a troublemaker that brought shame to their family. Who they are isn't specific to whatever grief exists in the comic.
When people give the critique that modern Superhero comics aren't about anything anymore, we usually think of these comics as "lacking political bite and commentary". We don't often think of something like Death to be political. And even though it is in many ways, it's also a social taboo to talk about. Death is an uncomfortable thing to confront, even in the safety of fiction. It's what made Ride the Cyclone such a difficult stage musical to market.
So how does a modern mainstream comic like Spirit World fit into that? It just sits there in this non-committal way. Yes, this is a story about a trans teenager who died, but only in a cool Superhero Origin Way, not in any way that would make readers uncomfortable. Bury Your Gays is a stereotype after all, so we can't talk about how queer people feel about death. We don't get to know how Xanthe feels about death as a non-binary Asian American. Especially if it's messy. It's the reason why Wan Yujing's character can never commentate on themes of historical queer erasure. God forbid superhero comics be about something.
I think about how, in the original Hellblazer run from the 80s, John Constantine had an elderly gay friend who was diagnosed with AIDS but was killed by a homophobic hate group. The comic openly talks about the sheer amount of gay people dying of the epidemic, a looming threat that informs John's queer life. It's such a culture shock, to contrast these early comics with how John Constantine is written in Spirit World. A character stripped of his own queer history and is at the mercy of incessant slutty bi jokes. Where is the desire to talk about how death informs a queer person's life? The mourning of a lost generation to the AIDS crisis? Something John lived through?
How about how any of this intersects with being an Asian American queer person? Queer people of color are often erased or purposefully excluded from queer history and communities. As a Queer Asian American, what does it mean to have identities that are often perceived to be in conflict with each other? Would your queer Asian ancestors even be remembered? Cultural differences with how you'd mourn your communities? But answering any of these questions means an uncomfortable conversation for Spirit World. For Xanthe. It threatens to be about something.
Which makes it all the more silly that, of the two stories, a musical about teenagers dying from a rollercoaster malfunction is more willing to have that uncomfortable conversation. You should ride the Cyclone.
#ramblings#jesncin dc meta#ride the cyclone#xanthe zhou#sorry I'm picking on Spirit World again but it's my right as the supposed target audience for the representation#anyway watch/listen to Ride the Cyclone! i adore it. so simple yet so profound

keep up! // ch. 1 // ch. 2 // ch. 3 // ch. 4 (coming soon)
─── ⋆⋅ ♰ ⋅⋆ ─── ─── ⋆⋅ ♰ ⋅⋆ ─── ─── ⋆⋅ ♰ ⋅⋆ ───
As the time has passed, things have been going smoothly at home. Satoru has been keeping his promises about controlling the drinking and his whore behavior and there was no drama in the house.
Although, after two months since the pregnancy, you’ve started to notice changes within your appearance as your belly is starting to show. Nobara claims you’ve got the ‘pregnancy glow’ even though, you would disagree as you haven’t fully gotten used to your new body.
[12:07pm] King Nobara: OMG!! we should totally go baby clothes shopping
Nobara’s texts appear in your shared groupchat with you, her and Yuji. Megumi was originally supposed to be in here as well but Nobara bullied him out after teasing him about his shared drunk kiss with Yuji.
[12:07pm] Yuji: can i come toooooo? it’s been so boring lately also it’s been a while since the gang has been together, i need to get fushiguro out the house, i’m afraid he will become emo!!
[12:08pm] King Nobara: he’s already emo :((
You roll your eyes at their teasing, a small smile leaving your lips as you feel comforted talking to them again. Hanging out with all of them again would be good for you, after all it’s been a while since you’ve talked to Megumi who still has refused to talk to you after you’ve moved out.
[12:10pm] You: Yeah, sounds good. How’s 2 sound?
[12:12pm] King Nobara: good for me, you in itadori?
[12:12pm] Yuji: yes Ma’am!!
You set your phone down as you think out your day before getting your thoughts interrupted by the sound of your maid coming in the room in a rush ready to clean up, she apologizes as she thought you would be up by now.
Taking notice of her stressed out behavior as she pants, you ask, “is everything alright? what’s the matter?”
“Well today is a big day, you know” She says offering you a kind smile at your concern for her.
“How so? it’s saturday” You ask, furrowing your eye brows trying to think if you’ve missed a holiday.
“You weren’t informed?! Oh my!! The Gojo’s will be arriving for dinner today so you two can break the news of your pregnancy, I apologize, I assumed Mr. Gojo had made you aware.”
“Oh I see” You nod in understanding as you get up from your place on the bed, matching your way towards the door.
Loud slippers make its way through the hall, passing by the living room in which Suguru sat on the couch sipping his coffee as he flicked through channels. As if he reads your anger, he mutters “uh oh” as he looks towards the situation before him amused as you violently knock on Satoru’s door.
You can hear what sounds like Satoru getting up from his bed followed by a muffled groan as if he is stretching before being approached by a shirtless Satoru in front of you, yawning without shame which seems to set you off.
He looks down and quickly reads your angry expression before a sly smirk appears on his lips, “ah and good morning to you too, baby mama”
“You shouldn’t call her that Satoru, it makes it sound like you knocked her up after a one night stand or something” He sarcastically teases followed up by Satoru grinning in front of you.
“My apologies, Now what do i owe the pleasure of being in the presence of my strong, beautiful, glorious, soon to be mother of my child” he says dramatically.
If you were cartoon characters, you’re sure smoke would be coming out your ears by now.
“Why am i now getting informed that we will be breaking the news to your parents tonight?” You cross your arms annoyed by how calm he is by all this.
“Relax, i just didn’t want to stress you out, not good for the baby.” He says nonchalantly making your blood boil. Not wanting to stress you out? Since when did he care about that. As if his whole existence didn’t stress you out.
“Well now i’m stressed out even more, i can’t even prepare and i have to rush to see if i can get a gift or something!”
“No need, we will have a little dinner at the house and that’s it, no need for gifts, they aren’t that formal” He brushes you off with a scratch to his head.
You stomp away in anger, not feeling the need to further speak with him as you might just strangle him right there.
“Those slippers are super cute on you by the way!” He shouts out playfully before you turn around to throw one at him before he retreats to his room.
You look towards Suguru who is encouraging Satoru to run and retreat before you aim the other slipper towards him causing Suguru to throw his hands up in defeat, “I surrender!”
You let out a small huff as you walk away.
“You’re breakfast is in the microwave!” he shouts out softly laughing as you walk away giving him a thumbs up of acknowledgement.
getting dressed to meet up with your friends ended up more stressful than you intended, feeling a weight in your chest knowing Megumi would be there.
I mean you always knew that he wasn’t the biggest fan of gojo but not talking to you because of it just seemed like a little much to you. you didn’t understand why he cared so much about you and gojo, i mean it was always playful banter, right? Megumi didn’t seriously hate gojo, could he.
either way you knew you would have to find a way to repair the friendship between you and megumi, you valued it a lot considering having growing up with him.
Gojo was always like an older brother figure to Megumi, I think apart of Satoru wanted to relieve the pain of Megumi losing his parents, budging his way into a brotherly role in his life.
When you were kids you would remember the car rides as Satoru would drop you both off at highschool as Satoru would make his way to college.
the nights you spent alone with megumi where you felt safe and loved at a time where you felt alone. In a way it felt like you found a familiar comfort in being with him. growing up with him felt so natural that it made you anxious at the thought of losing him over someone as stupid as Gojo.
Megumi felt like family, the family you never got to have.
after working up the courage to walk out your room, clutching your bag filled with junk and medications gojo prescribed you on.
“where are you heading?” a voice comes out from behind you, almost startling compared to the silence you were surrounded in moments ago.
you turn around to see gojo eying the sundress you’re wearing, helping you cover up the small baby bump that was barely beginning to form.
“I was going to meet up at the mall with some friends”
he nods, “hm okay, i assume megumi will be there as well?” he asks, a hint of concern in his voice.
“mhm” you hum. what was with the sudden interest in Megumi?
“do you mind if i come with? i’ve got some things i need to get from there before my parents come, and it would be nice to see megs ya know” he says, surprising abandoning his playful tone he usually has at the mention of megumi, instead now showing some guilt on his face.
you think for a moment, thinking if bringing Gojo was really the best idea. would megumi really be okay with that? he’s been so silent that it’s hard to read how he will react.
after moments of thinking, you finally nod. giving your approval as a soft smile appears on Satoru’s lips as you both head out the door.
“We’ll be back, Suguru!” Satoru shouts before closing the door.
The car way there was silent once again, you couldn’t quite read the mood between the both of you. Satoru was a big personality in front of people, yet with you, most times he would just stay silent, making you wonder what’s happening in his head. You would try not to overthink it too much.
arriving at the mall you see Nobara and Yuji sitting on the curb frantically waving as you get out the car like fangirls. while Megumi stands quietly by the light pole next to them, a blank expression on his face.
Gojo takes a few seconds before walking out of the car, letting you’re friends greet you with excitement before quietly walking out, closing the door. when he turns Nobara gives you a mouth open look of dramatic surprise as she nods her head in ‘hottie approval’.
You roll your eyes as you hug her tightly and seeing Yuji greet Gojo, “Hey doc! what are you doing here!” he goes in to give him a handshake as Gojo laughs returning a friendly greeting towards Yuji and Nobara.
You look to see megumi who is already facing you, turning away once you make eye contact, you look down feeling a guilt feeling in your stomach, you hated when he was upset with you. but you weren’t going to give up, you would make it your mission to make sure you can make up with Megumi today.
“There’s my little munchkin, hey megs! it’s been a hot minute since you’ve visited, holidays are coming up, come by sometime!” he says pulling Megumi forcefully into a hug as Megumi makes a salty face looking away, “Okay.”
You wave and walk towards him, “Hi” you say giving him a soft smile, Megumi turns his gaze towards you, he wanted to be upset but he knew you were pregnant and he couldn’t help how innocent you looked trying to make an effort to speak to him, “hey” he says back, his eyes softening for a moment as he looks down at your sundress hanging loosely around your body, noticing the small baby bump.
You guys walk around the mall, Gojo and Yuji disappearing off as they talk each others ears off as they wondered off to god knows where in the mall, leaving you, Nobara and Megumi left.
Nobara babbled about the third year medical students and something about how there’s a rumor of third year student Inumaki getting to work along side Nanami Kento as a gynecologist. Meanwhile Megumi stays silent trailing behind you both as he watched you eying the baby clothes.
as she speaks about the subject a voice pops out behind all of you, “Hey first years, what are you guys doing here? doing some last minute shopping?” Maki wraps an arm around Nobara’s shoulder watching Nobara’s eyes light up.
“Yeah, we’re doing some last minute christmas shopping since Yuji decided he would invite his asshole of an uncle over for christmas, we’re totally low on supplies. Oh by the way you guys are still coming right?” Nobara says looking towards you, Maki, Yuta, and Inumaki. They all nod as you stay silent, not knowing where you’re going for thanksgiving, did Satoru even want you there? you would assume he would have plans along with Geto.
“Uh Im not sure actually”
“Aw why nottttt! Gojo and Geto are coming! so is Shoko and Nanami!” She says pulling your arm like a child wanting their mom’s approval.
“They are?” you ask, surprised at the fact.
“Yeah! it’s at Megumi’s apartment so everyone’s meeting up there! you have to come, i won’t accept no!”
you finally nod giving your approval leaving Nobara satisfied.
The next hour at some point Nobara heads off with Maki and the others leaving Megumi alone with you as you walked around stores. A silence filled the void between you two before Megumi surprisingly broke the silence pulling you into a store, “come here”
you’re confused but you follow him into the store in which you soon realizes sells baby clothes and supplies.
you look and run your fingers through the small baby clothes along the racks, imagining ones you would like your baby to wear as he watches you fiddle with the small buttons along the baby coats.
He watches you carefully and silently as you do so, after several minutes finally breaking the silence.
“is it his?” he asks and you turn towards him startled by the question.
you try to play it off as confusion, “w-what?”
“Satoru, it’s his isn’t it. He dropped you off that night of the event, your carrying his child aren’t you?” he keeps his calm demeanor.
you look down, not wanting to answer the question. for moments it’s quiet before he lifts a hand on your shoulder, “it’s okay.”
you look up at him to see his face is filled with an expression you weren’t familiar with on his face, a look you hadn’t seen on him in a long time. A soft smile appears on his face.
You admire the sight, taking advantage of it while it lasts, burning the imagine in your mind.
“y-you aren’t mad…?” you ask turning your head slightly.
he shakes his head, “no. i know you’re smart enough to take care of yourself, I trust that you will.”
he says before taking the palm of his hand and putting it gently on your waist slightly caressing the bump on your stomach. “but if anything doesn’t work out, you can always come back home.”
you smile, in the moment it made you feel nostalgic, reminding you of the comfort you once felt in Megumi’s presence as kid. You’re home.
before leaving the store, Megumi purchased small white mittens and a small black snow hat, for the baby. He holds the bag as he walks with you out of the store finally finding Gojo standing alone at the food court making small talk with an old woman.
“Hey, where did everyone go? don’t tell me they left the old man to fend for himself” you tease as you walk towards him, a grin appearing on his lips.
“don’t tell me i’m getting wrinkles already! but yeah they went and found a bar somewhere across the street but i had to lead by example, you know, as their mentor and all” he brushes his shoulder dramatically finally realizing megumi was beside you. “Oh you’re still here! Oh Megumi you should come home with us, my family is coming in just a few hours, they would love to see you!” he says cheerfully,
Megumi shrugs, “Yeah whatever” He says nonchalantly looking at your eyes for a response,
“sounds like a plan”

A/N. This chapter is a little short but only because the family dinner with Satoru’s parents is most likely going to be long considering everything i have planned to happen for it. There’s going to be some flashbacks and drama next chapter for sure so I figured this chapter would be more of a calmer setting where reader and Megumi make up and we get some fun scenes.
let me know if you guys would like to be added to the tag list for ‘Shotgun Wedding’ updates!

Lots of good replies on this post but I got inspired by @sohrleas' mention of doomsday prepper Philza. So have a little AU idea!
Philza is a doomsday prepper. He believes the end of the world isn't only possible, it's inevitable and it's only a matter of a waiting game before it happens. And when it happens, he does not want to be caught unaware. His wife Kristin makes good money, so he has all the time in the world to devote himself to this eccentric 'hobby'.
Techno, a local college student, befriended Phil when he was looking for a community garden to plant potatoes in for a school project back in high school. He could not find any, but Phil has a lot of land around his house (safely held between fortified walls) and offered up his garden in exchange for some of the produce he could pickle and jar up. Techno thought it was a little sus but took him up on the offer.
Phil turned out to be a very chill guy, they have some interests in common (literature, history, etc), and Techno has a shitty family (no parents, lives with an uncle who is drunk or gone most of the time) so he ends up growing very close to Phil, and also Phil's son Wilbur who is a few years older than Techno, and Tommy, a younger boy who Wilbur views as a little sibling after they met through music camp (Wilbur is a camp counselor and Tommy had one summer of thinking he'd want to be a pianist. He's since abandoned the dream, but Tommy is growing up in a similar situation as Techno, so that's why he hangs out with Wilbur and Phil and sees them as his family).
Techno does think that Phil's conspiracy theories are a little out there but it's not like Phil is doing any harm with them, and Phil manages to be a very nice individual when he's not talking about the coming doomsday, so Techno mostly ignores that whole thing.
Until one day, he goes over to Phil's place for tea and a chat, and ends up feeling very groggy after only a few minutes. Techno has just enough time to realize Phil drugged him before he passes out.
He wakes up a little while later with his right leg chained to a bed.
The bed is in a very nice room, a fully fitted bedroom with living space, bathroom, and everything. And the chain does allow Techno a decent range of motion. But that doesn't change that he's chained up, and there are no windows, and the door is made of steel, bolted from the outside.
Tommy is also in the room, not chained to a bed.
Phil and Wilbur come down after a little bit, and apologize for the circumstances. See, the world has ended, much like they expected it to. And thus, outside isn't safe anymore. Techno asks what the heck that has to do with them being kidnapped and locked up. Phil explains ever so patiently that they've not been kidnapped, they've been saved. Techno and Tommy are part of the family, no way are Wilbur and Phil going to let them die. They're locked up as a precaution, since neither of them has the survival training the other two do, so staying in the room is safer for now. The chain is because Phil has a fair idea of how stubborn Techno can be.
(Techno does instantly prove him right by trying to throttle him.)
Phil also explains that they shouldn't worry. The house is set up to be defendable and loaded with enough supplies to keep them going for at least a few years, not to mention it being completely off the grid in terms of electricity and water. Kristin will be home soon. It will be a while before they even have to think about venturing outside, and when that time comes Phil and Wilbur will do it so Techno and Tommy can be safe and sound. They're younger, after all. Less prepared. It makes sense. They'll have time to learn how to survive too.
Techno tells them they're insane if they think they'll get away with this. It's going to be super obvious when two people with a strong connection to Wilbur and Phil go missing.
Phil shrugs, and says that since almost everybody outside of their house is dead, he doubts anybody is going to come looking for them.
Over the course of the next week or so, Techno and Tommy stay confined in the room. They're brought food, items to occupy themselves with, anything they need. Techno manages to pry out of Phil that this thing that supposedly has ended the world is some sort of disease, but they're being super cagey with the details. They keep telling them not to worry about the specifics. They're safe. Techno tries a few escape attempts, but can't get far because of the chain. Tommy is reluctant about helping because he's a bit confused and scared, he doesn't think Wilbur and Phil would do this without reason, and also because it's honestly not that bad, is it? No more school, just hanging out all day? Tommy doesn't really miss his old life.
But Techno keeps insisting that they need to get out of there and alert the authorities. Eventually, Tommy does help him pick the lock on the chain. The next time Wilbur comes in to bring them food, Techno uses an improvised weapon (a chair leg) to knock him out. Tommy isn't happy with that and refuses to leave when Wilbur is bleeding unconscious on the floor. Seeing no other option, Techno tells Tommy he'll alert help and come back for him, before sneaking through the hallway. He finds a window and climbs out, then books it across Phil's garden to the wall. He manages to scale it somehow, even as he hears Phil yelling for him to come back.
Techno can run quite fast for a nerdy history major.
He gets to the town and finds it deserted. Like, nobody is around. There are cars abandoned on the asphalt, broken store windows, and the smell of rot in the air. But no people at first glance. A large patch of dried blood stands out.
It hasn't truly sunk in for Techno yet that the world did end. He just wanders down the street, confused.
He sees a shape not too far off then, crouching over something else, and automatically calls out. The person - pale, gaunt - turns towards him. Their chin is covered in more blood. They're hunched over a corpse, eating it.
The zombie lunges at Techno.
Techno hits it with the same chair leg he hit Wilbur with, knocking the person - the monster - down. He turns around and tries to run, but strong hands latch onto his ankle and he's pulled down too, hitting his head on the ground hard. He kicks at the thing, feeling bone crunch beneath his heel. The person barely reacts. It has no eyes anymore, and patches of skin have slouched off the flesh. Techno squirms as it lifts his leg and then opens its mouth, sinking teeth into his flesh to tear at it. He screams, kicking again, and manages to get it off. Through vision blurred by pain, he somehow manages to pick up his weapon and bash the person's skull in, over and over and over, until gray matter leaks from the hole and it stops moving.
Techno barely has a moment to process what just happened before another zombie jumps him.
His shoulder slams into a car, then his forehead meets the pavement a second time, so concussion is guaranteed at this point. His ankle burns and he's losing blood fast. He thinks it bit deep enough to rip into his arteries. The second zombie is even more ambitious, teeth gnashing to reach his throat. Techno struggles to fend it off with his hands on its shoulders but he doesn't know how long he can keep it up.
Right as his strength is failing him, a gunshot rings out across the street. The zombie's head explodes into a spray of gore. Techno just slumps, going boneless, exhausted and hurt.
Phil looms over him, looking so genuinely scared. Seeing the bite on Techno's ankle, he curses. He says something else, but Techno passes out before he can really grasp it.
He wakes up chained to a bed again.
Though it's his other leg this time. Because his right leg, the leg he was chained with the first time, the leg that got bitten, is gone.
Phil is sitting next to him, and he's so relieved when Techno manages to squint at him. He apologizes to Techno. Not for the whole 'locking him up' thing. For not doing it better.
Phil never wanted Techno or Tommy to see all that terribleness. Phil and Wilbur were prepared for all that, but Techno and Tommy weren't. Phil wished he could have done a better job, and shielded them from the cruelty and the gore. At least until they were older, more adjusted. That's also why he hid the details of the disease earlier. It makes people ravenous, hungry for human flesh. It turns them into monsters. He thought it would have been easier if Techno and Tommy believed the disease simply killed people. That it would give them some peace.
Techno is sick, feverish, as he listens to the explanation. Phil says he thinks he was in time with the amputation. Techno will live, though the long-term effects of the virus might be nasty even in a low dose. Techno could be prone to bouts of sickness forever, and never regain full strength. Not to mention he's short a leg now. It's regrettable since Phil was planning to teach both Techno and Tommy how to survive in the long run. For Tommy, that's still an option. But for Techno, he might be forever incapacitated to some degree.
But that's alright. Between the four of them, they can take care of Techno even if he needs some extra help. That's what family is for, after all.
In completely unrelated news, zombie apocalypse AUs slap and I should write one if only I had a good idea
