Since you said it's ok to send you random ask, i've always found your "monsters" design to be really really gorgeous, and I wanted to know : in any form of media you've interacted with, what's PEAK monster design for you ?
i have been thinking about this ask alot bc ... i dont ... know? theres a problem with what counts as a monster really too, most are either some sort of anthro/furry or the horror gore type of monster that instills you more with disgust than awe
i guess theres some i really like but idk if thats what id call 'peak' (though its rarely JUST the design but their vibe and stuff too);
(its a lot of zelda.. sorry)
Eldra, Farodra and Naydra (engl Dinraal, Farosh(?)) though Eldra is def my fav one of them, i like how they are a little more less typical dragon- with the fur around the neck the floppy ears and kinda goofy face yet manage to be the most ethereal, awe inspiring creature i have ever seen in a game with how they act and are presented as (in BOTW!!! do not mention anythign sonau/zonai with stupid magic pebbles to me about them i will manifest worms into your tea)
Leunen (Lynels) (botw) -i could not find a better picture wtf, fav are white and silver ones) FINE they had some pretty neat new horn designs in totk- idk i just like them alot, rather simple if you think about it, horse lion plus horns- but its so well put together it just kinda scratches my brain in a good way (also how intelligent they clearly are, like the way they fight and act and also even their death animation is so??? huh?? you are just gonna treat them like any other mindless monste- *remmbers they treat ganondorf even even worse all things considered* .. nevermind you're good)
'Beast' Ganondorf (twilight princess) its my favorite beast ganon design (even if it technically is just kinda a man boar .. again) though if ww gan had a non puppet beast form that one would most definitely be my fav lol (i will not get over the fact that some descriptions call this a hideous beast EXCUSE ME???? WHERE???) (honorable mention here, darkbest ganon from botw, pig on fire but it looks cool as fuck)
Nimbusgarde (ww) .. (engl .. darknuts?) do i need to say anything? (i could throw alot of ww design here) not sure if it counts as monster but they are not human so ????
the pathless bosses- (here in order, Cernos, the Godslayer, and Kumo) all of them are rad as hell (except for the final version of the godslayer ... liek im sorry but it looks to boring compared to any other one lol) again not just the design but man do i love them
since i dont know what would count as a monster or no i could just list my fav characters here bfmjbfmjsbmj like radahn (elden ring) is just kinda a zombie, aurelion sol (league of legends) is a space dragon, the forest god in princess mononoke, Narisha (skyward sword- sky whale)- i could go on but this post is long already (honorable mention to Omus in nausicäa, weird bugs but also something divine, though it is much more how they are treated and the vibe etc)
in all honesty though i cant think of one that i would describe as perfect, what i want of a monster design is to be ... cool but also a little weird, big hulking monsters that have something off about them and something that makes them 'other', but also not, as much as i like bloodborne, just bloody gory messes of rotting flesh, AND not just as a monster to kill, i just crave a game or otherwiese piece of media where the cool monsters arent just there for you to kill- the perfect one i guess would be something kinda big scary weird and off but while non verbal clearly not a mindless beast?
and here is the thing; my own characters do not furfill that, my designs are really rather conservative, much to my dismay, anthro of a mix of animals, maybe an extra arm thrown in- Eadrya, one of my favorites, is really just a blueish furry (yes they have fur) and their demon form is a mix of seals and catfish with some extra arms, too many teeth and a mouth that goas wayy to far (if they want) - Shargon is a feather dude with extra arms and his demon form is really just a chinese type dragon crossed with a bird, throw some darts at the color wheel, done
together with my problem of my monster characters losing their 'otherness' vibe within the story rather fast bc the majority of my characters are non human and speak and you see them in all sorts of emotions and parts of life- they lose that divine, unknown vibe and i HATE that that happens, i want them more akin to the forest god in mononoke but thats not possible unless i start from scratch
and i really dont mean to make myself look bad to sound self depre- ... however you spell that; i really am rather dissatisfied with my own designs but mostly just roll with what i got bc i never seem to be able to actually achieve what i want
even my redesigns often really make things LESS interesting (unless maybe the og was just ... human, but they are blue eyed with golden hair and white so that makes them divine you seE-), the skyward sword dragons as i redesigned them made them much more classical dragon, in part intentional bc i was drawing a connection of them becoming the botw dragons at some point, but by all means the canon design is much more weird and unusual than what i did with them, you could apply the same to even demise, his canon design might seem a little uninspired but really what did i do? inject him with some classic satan spice like that makes it in any way less stereotypical evil demon ??? lol
im sorry this post devolved into whatever this is but i really am trying to answer sincerely, i am confused about it myself, what counts as a monster, what doesnt, there must be more that i really loved but why cant i think of them, why do i design characters like this when i really want something much more different, i dont know, i feel like my brain is in a cage, why do i keep making things less interesting in an effort to make it interesting, am i falling into the corporate trap of cool sells who am i what am i doing
(theres a zelda artist with a style so strikingly genuis in shape, color and just .. DESIGN that i want to chew my nails off bc i cannot design like them, their designs and redesigns are so different yet sensical and so full of crisp shapes i have never seen before it drives me nuts and i would want to give them a shoutout but i think they dont like me so aaaaarhekjbfhgdknbgdfklbg)
#ganondoodles answers#hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#this ask was so innocent and nice#what did i do to it#me trying to think of my favorite monster design spiraling into me realizing i am making things often more boring than the og#and in general just dont achieve what i want to even with my own creations#i have infinite possiblities of creativity at my fingertips and yet what to i draw#blue furry :)#i feel like an ant that just experienced cosmic horrors of realization#(to be clear- having infinte possibilites and yet deciding to just draw furries is FINE AND VALID if thats what you want#(do -I- want that though??????????????????????

For the fic writer asks, please 🥹🙏🏻
🫓🥘🍲 🍱 🍛 🍜 🍠 🍢🍣 🍥🍙 🥮 🍡 🍘 🍚
🫓 What is your most popular fic?
My most popular fic is my Dragon Age: Inquisition fic, Maledictus. Still. LOL
🥘 What category do most of your fics fall under?
Almost always romance/angst or hurt/comfort. And definitely smutty.
🍲 When did you start writing and why?
I wanna say I was writing fanfic before I knew what fanfic was when I was in third grade? Sailor Moon had just premiered in the US and I was enraptured. I'd seen anime before, of course, but never like this. Ultimate princess fantasy. But I wasn't satisfied with the adventures I was seeing. I wanted to know more, I wanted the characters to do something different. Most of all, I wanted to feel like I was part of the adventure. So I made my first OC, a girl named Jade. She still exists in some form and I may revamp her and give her a spot in my JJK 'verse. :3
🍱 Do you read your own fics?
I used to not do that because I'd always frown and find myself wanting to go back and rewrite a bunch of shit or add more or do something different. I also wasn't always as confident in my writing as I am, now. Now, though? I'll talk my shit. I'm so fucking good at this. I reread a lot of my old work just to see how much I've evolved as a writer. But I reread ALL of my current fics I've published this year. I'm at that stage where my own writing satisfies me. I also acknowledge that my writing style isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's fine too.
🍛 Have any comments, tags or reactions to one of your fics every made you laugh or cry or both?
I don't cry easily, but it's so fucking easy to make me laugh. Everything is amusing to me. I also don't get a lot of comments on my fics so I read each one thoroughly. The ones I do get are gems, tho.
🍜 Do you ever feel pressured to write?
Answered.
🍠 How long does it take you to write one of your fics or a chapter/part?
It takes as long as it takes. I don't set time limits or deadlines on myself. I impose chapter restrictions and I make a detailed outline. However long it takes to translate my outline into something worthy of being called a first draft depends on the story I'm telling. I have deleted entire chapters to start from scratch because the words I spit up were so unsatisfactory. So there's no way to know how long it'll take.
🍢 Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
My comments on AO3 are moderated for a reason, and my Dragon Age fics are locked to registered users only for a reason. I took a near ten-year hiatus from fandoms for a reason.
That's all I'll say about that for now.
🍣 What helps you focus or get in the mood to write?
Answered.
🍥 What's your favorite fic you've written?
Out of every fanfic I currently have published, it will always be Maledictus. I put my heart and soul into that fic and till this day people still comment on it and talk about how good it made them feel, how inspired it made them feel. That means a lot to me since the fic was pulled from a place deeply personal to me.
🥮 Do you have any writing milestones you're working toward?
Nothing too concrete, but I do want to get the next chapters of Highball out soon, and The Godslayer Project should be ready to go after the holidays are over. I'm hoping a change of scenery will stimulate my brain.
🍡 Which of your fics was the most emotionally difficult to write?
Answered.
🍘 Is there a fic or idea for a fic that you've abandoned?
Yeah, any of the Dragon Age fics that are not marked as complete are considered abandoned. Mostly because I simply don't have any interest in writing in that fandom anymore.
🍙 Is there a fic you wish had gotten more attention?
LOL...literally all of them? I don't pay attention to my stats on AO3 because I barely have any stats to track...like at all. It would be nice if people left thoughtful comments or reblogged and shared my work in their own little communities...some sign that all these hits, and kudos, and likes, and secret bookmarks are amounting to some measure of impact. But I've long since learned to not let myself get caught up or hung up on the numbers and algorithm game. The deck is already stacked against me: I'm Black, my OCs are obviously and visibly darkskinned Black women and shipped with fandom's male faves, etc.
If I get hung up on the numbers, which already don't favor me from the start, that's only going to discourage me and make me miserable. And then I won't write at all, and I am finally having fun and enjoying some measure of peace in my little sandbox.
🍚 What genre do you have the toughest time writing?
Horror. I'm bad at building tension and translating the truly horrifying shit in my head into words on the page that will convey that horror to my readers. I can describe blood and gore all day long but to truly frighten my readers? I need to tap in with that.

there's something so charming about hunter, but in a soothing way
it doesnt mean she cant be silly ofc, but her eyes reflect so much of her moods and personality
when she's with the eagle she looks calm and gentle and much of the expressions she makes are towards the eagle; when nimue gets the bird, when the godslayer stuns the eagle and got one of the flaps and at the end of the game when he corrupts the eagle completely there were always a close at her face to show us how worried hunter was towards her friend
it's as if the eagle highlights hunter in some way, cause if you think about it hunter is not really an important person; she's an outsider and a stranger, and eagle mother is there not only to push her forwards, but she also works like this excuse to develop what lies inside hunter - her feelings
the more i think about, like no human(oid) character in the pathless have a mouth, which is an interesting decision - may it be because the animator said "nuh uh i aint doing this" or because they had other intentions - having no mouth makes it harder to humanize a character cause to do so you work around facial expression mostly
for characters like the diver or the little guy from journey it works cause humanizing them is not the focus - they are vessels for the player to experience the message of the game, much like a blank page, but hunter is a more defined type of character, she's not only for the player to control; there are instance where she speaks for herself (literally), she reacts towards her environment (like when she groans when she hits the ground), it's a bit of "i exist in relation to others" kind of thing i dont even know if this explanations make sense
the thing is, if you gonna hide the mouth (and it's funny cause they got rid of the mouths but not of the speech), to deliver something believable you have to put extra attention in other places, like eyes (which is probably the reason why they made her eyes big, for emphasis) and corporal expression (i love all of hunter animations like ALL of them, the idles are so cool and my favorite has to be the climbing one HAVE YOU SEEN THAT CREATURE)
another aspect that locks my eyes on hunter is her color palette; she feels a bit like 60% red and 40% black which an almost dangerous distribution cause it gets near the boring looking too evenly palette, but i feel like this problem is partially solved by the color choice cause black and red is very iconic (but i see that this can be subjective, so take it with a grain of salt)
to give some examples: im typing from an nitro acer (black red palette), you can see cars with that bright red (+black of the tires), and i can name a few characters with red+black combination, like matoi ryuko from kill la kill, kaguya, that masochist from that cassino games school (she's iconic i will recognize but i wont lose my time googling it i dont wanna know details about that anime)
(also if i had to point a match for hunter from another media....... kikyo my beloved i fucking love you my gay awakening i kept watching inuyasha cause i wanted to see you on my screen omg)
but at the same time her color scheme puzzles me: what does it mean? usually color is used for storytelling or readability purposes
hunter red black contrasts very well against the greens/whites/oranges of the landscape, mostly bc it's highly saturated; but then you get to the boss fight and......
i know that the boss fights dont take as many screen time as exploration but considering that they are the action moment hmm idk the math aint mathing here
well what's about storytelling? a bit of the same problem shown on the above image; hunter shares the color scheme with the corrupted tall ones and godslayer which makes things even more confusing
(seriously am i stupid and didnt see the obvious hint everyone else saw and im just here staring at the walls idk)
that said i have come up with my own worms to explain this and it comes down to: it's not from the land/natural
godslayer and the corrupted tall ones shouldnt exist, they are not natural to this world and actually an evil twist of the reality; hunter not necessarily is corrupted, but is also not natural (from the island), she's an outsider, it's about this feeling of not-belonging
however in the end of the day the color choice is also about readability and keeping things cohesive; stretching the color palette of the entire game just to give hunter a different look would do more damage than helping, imagine changing to something not that far like a pink or yellow, things still would change drastically
in the end i still love hunter very much ma babegurl <3 sillly stupid<333 my dear blorbo<333 hope she finds a lot of hobbies <33333

Strange the Dreamer. By Laini Taylor. New York: Little, Brown Books, 2017.
Rating: 4/5 stars
Genre: YA fantasy
Part of a Series? Yes, Strange the Dreamer #1
Summary: The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around— and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever. What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving? The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?
***Full review under the cut.***
Content Warnings: blood, violence, drug use, rape, sexual slavery, abduction and imprisonment
Overview: I really enjoyed Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, so I decided to give her new work a go. Overall, I also really enjoyed Strange the Dreamer because it had a lot of things that are characteristic of Taylor’s writing that I love - lush, lyrical prose; tragic, star-crossed love; a political conflict involving otherworldly creatures. The reason why I’m giving this book 4 instead of 5 stars mainly has to do with the pacing and the way events played out. There wasn’t anything wrong, I think, with the way Taylor handled her story - it’s just that I felt like things started to rush to a close too quickly, and I would have liked to spend more time in the book exploring character emotions.
Writing: Taylor’s prose tends to fall into two categories: lyrical and descriptive or straight-forward and economical. Part 1 of this book is more lyrical; the metaphors are more fantastical and the prose evokes a sense of longing and fascination. Taylor really captures the feeling of being immersed in a library, surrounded by stories, as well as what it’s like to have a dream (not a dream in your sleep - more like a goal or a wish that has a small or nonexistence likelihood of coming true). Part 1 was probably my favorite part of the book for this reason, as subsequent sections tended to lose that lyrical quality and fall into a style more typical of YA books.
Taylor’s pace is also fairly well-done in that I didn’t feel like I was being rushed or that I was plodding through the book. The only thing I would change in terms of pacing is the book’s ending; I felt a lot of things were dropped on the reader all at once, and though they were foreshadowed earlier in the book (which I very much appreciated), I tend not to like endings where too much happens.
Before I close this section, a couple of notes on descriptions and worldbuilding: though I know teenagers have sexual urges, I was a little put off by the descriptions of teenagers’ bodies in certain places. I can remember a few instances where Taylor describes the look of one character’s breasts, and though it wasn’t gratuitous, I didn’t like that these descriptions were included. I also thought the worldbuilding detail of “women get tattoos on their bellies as a rite of passage/coming of age marker when they become fertile and Sarai longs for one of her own” was a little uncomfortable. It made me feel like the world Taylor built was concerned with showcasing female reproductive capacity, and that just seems exclusionary. While it could have worked if the story was more about pushing back against reproductive regulation or exploring what such tattoos would mean for trans characters, as the book stands, that doesn’t really happen, so it was a weird detail that I felt distracted from the main themes.
Plot: This book primarily follows Lazlo Strange - an orphan who dreams of finding the lost city of Weep - and Sarai - the daughter of a dead god and a human who must hide her existence in order to stay alive. Lazlo is surprised one day when some inhabitants of Weep - led by someone called “the Godslayer” - show up in his library, asking for assistance from the land’s greatest scientists. Though Lazlo isn’t a scientist, he is the most knowledgeable person about Weep and its culture, so the Godslayer elects to take him along. Meanwhile, Sarai and several other demigods live in a secluded Sanctuary, hiding from the inhabitants of Weep so that they won’t be slain on account of their parentage.
Without spoiling anything (which is kind of hard, since there is a lot that happens), I will say that I really liked the central conflict of this book. Taylor does a good job of setting up a problem with no black-and-white solutions; it seems like everyone had a legitimate reason for acting the way they do, and no matter what happens, someone will be hurt.
But perhaps the thing I appreciated most about the plot was that Taylor never sets up a surprise twist that comes out of nowhere. I feel like I’ve read a lot of YA books that drop a bomb on the reader with no set up, and I personally feel like such twists make the story feel less cohesive. Taylor sets up all her reveals and twists by dropping hints early and frequently, and rather than make the story feel dull, I felt like they made the end emotionally fulfilling.
If I had one criticism of the plot it would be that the romance doesn’t feel genuine. Lazlo and Sarai seem to fall in love with each other too quickly, which made it seem like they got together because they just hadn’t had opportunities to meet other people. I didn’t see what they saw in each other aside from looks and special qualities like “oh, he’s able to share my dreams” or “she was kind to me when so many other people weren’t.” I wanted more out the romance, like Sarai falling for Lazlo’s kindness and Lazlo falling for Sarai’s compassion towards those who would harm her. Maybe there was some of that, but it was definitely overshadowed by lengthy descriptions of kissing, which I wasn’t much a fan of. I also wasn’t really a fan of the “dates” that they went on; some parts were cute, but overall, they dragged.
Characters: Lazlo, one of our protagonists, is likeable in that he’s pretty much the embodiment of a lot of book nerds. He starts off shy, completely absorbed with fairy tales and folklore, and loves to roam the abandoned stacks in his library. What I liked most about him, though, was his willingness to help people even if they treat him poorly. For example, there’s a character named Theryn Nero who is basically a Science Bro. He’s rich, beloved by everyone, and gets famous for cracking the secret of alchemy. While he puts himself up as the lone genius, he was actually aided by Lazlo and takes sole credit for a lot of things that Lazlo proved to be key in discovering. Lazlo, though annoyed, never lets his feelings get in the way of helping Nero when the greater good is at stake, and I really admired that.
If I had any criticisms of Lazlo, it would be that I wish his “dreamer” status or knowledge base was put to better use. After Lazlo gets to Weep, he isn’t quite as interesting as he was before, probably because he no longer needs to use his vast knowledge of stories to make his way through the world.
Sarai, our other protagonist, is fairly sympathetic in that all her problems feel undeserved. She is forced to stay locked away in a hidden Sanctuary in order to protect herself and her little found family (composed of other demigods), and though it’s for the best, it also feels stifling. I really liked that Sarai was not single-mindedly fixated on revenge for the things that happened in her past. Without spoiling anything, I will say that something happened which put the demigods and inhabitants of Weep in conflict with one another, and there is no easy solution that would guarantee that the demigods stay alive. Sarai has a lot of dreams like Lazlo - of finding family, of living a normal life, of living among the humans - but it’s not really viable for her, and instead of letting hate consume her, she tries to think up other ways of existing.
Sarai’s “family” is also charming. The group consists of 5 demigods who are the last remaining offspring of the slain gods, and all of them feel fairly complex. They all possess some kind of magical “gift”: there’s Sarai (who can produce supernatural “moths” that allow her to enter people’s dreams), Ruby (a girl who can turn herself into flames), Feral (the only boy, and he can summon clouds), Sparrow (a girl who can manipulate plants), and Minya (a girl who can make ghosts do her bidding). I liked that these characters had different personalities that often put them in conflict. Ruby is boy-crazy and seems to be obsessed with sex. Sparrow is more passive but has sweet moments where she makes a “flower cake” for Ruby’s birthday and braids Sarai’s hair. Minya is completely consumed by her desire for revenge, and it presents some real barriers to finding a solution to the group’s problems.
The supporting characters down in Weep are also fairly compelling. The Godslayer is sympathetic in that he doesn’t revel in his heroic image or title; instead, he feels complex and seemingly warring emotions tied to guilt over what happened to Weep and his role in it almost 20 years prior to the events of this book. The Godslayer’s companions are also sympathetic and have emotions that are easy to understand, and I loved that they seemed to take to Lazlo so quickly. They welcome all outsiders with open arms, but they have a soft spot for Lazlo, which I liked because it meant that he didn’t have to face bullying or gatekeeping from people he had longed to meet his entire life.
The inhabitants of the world outside of Weep were interesting. There’s Theryn Nero, who seemed like he would be a primary antagonist but doesn’t have enough “screen time” to truly be a threat. I liked that his conflict with Lazlo was low-key - it was intense enough to be annoying, but no so intense that their rivalry consumed the whole story or put petty emotions above the greater good. The other “scientists” who follow the Godslayer back to Weep served their purpose; not all of them had rich, complex lives, but they didn’t really need to because if they did, the story would feel crowded.
Overall, there weren’t any characters I disliked, per se. While I do wish Lazlo got to develop differently, there wasn’t much wrong with his character, and I think all of the main players had interesting backstories and motivations, and I appreciated the layer of complexity they all had. I do wish there had been more queer characters though. There is one wlw couple, though they aren’t too prominent in the grand scheme of things. Of course, that could change, as there is a whole second book to go through, but I wish some of the demigods had been lgbt+ so it felt like Taylor’s world wasn’t overwhelmingly straight and cis.
TL;DR: Despite some pacing problems at the end and minor details that didn’t fit my personal tastes, Strange the Dreamer is a lush, evocative fantasy about the power of dreams. Readers who enjoy epic fantasy and stories about gods, star-crossed love, and will probably adore this book.

OVERWEIGHED MILANO
(Note: Sharing this one here in my side blog though this was already been published in Fanfiction.Net. I really had fun writing this. Basically followed the storyline of one of the extra episodes of Guardians of the Galaxy TV series. Just added my OC here. 😊 It’s not a reader-insert, but I just wanted to spread my talent for writing to others. Ideas for the story are not mine. It still goes to the original makers of the series, Marvel Studios. Enjoy reading! Also, I did a few edits because I felt some parts were missing. If you already read this on my first time publishing it here, you may want to reread it for, well, better understanding, I guess. Welp, onwards with the story!)
The Guardians visited Earth once again. In all of the planets that they visited, they find the blue and green planet the most exciting, with all its amusing and out-of-this-universe trinkets. Everyone bought their own souvenirs and padded back to the Milano.
“So long, Earth! It’s nice visiting you again but we have a galaxy to save,” Peter gleefully bid as he flew the ship. He will surely enjoy his evening tonight for he had bought so much cassette tapes, all from his favorite bands.
Then, a warning sign appeared in the monitor screen. Peter raised a brow. “Overweight? How can we be overweight?” He eyed each of his teammates.
“I am Groot (I don’t know),” the humanoid tree said.
“Beats me,” Rocket stated as he shifted his eyes anywhere.
“I know nothing,” Drax affirmed as he just shook his head.
“I’m not even sure why,” Claire remarked, shrugging her shoulders.
“What a real puzzler, huh,” Gamora hung up her head, avoiding looking at Peter.
Peter cringed his brows, knowing exactly that there was something wrong. He pressed the autopilot and went down to the Common Area, starting to check each member’s bunker rooms. The others followed him.
He started with Drax’s room. When the door automatically slid open, a huge pile of corndogs welcomed him, startling him and making him back away.
“What the?!” He then glared at the red-tattooed alien.
“I have to feed!” was Drax’s only counter back.
Peter growled. “For real, man? On a lifetime supply of corndogs?” He moved to Gamora’s next.
He pounded his fist on one of her metal cabinets three times when dozens of weightlifting barbells rolled over the ship’s floor.
“You don’t get a full body workout in space,” the green-skinned woman expressed, putting her hands on her hips.
Peter, still having those brows narrowed down, didn’t say anything back and walked to the next room, Claire’s room. He was, for the second time, surprised to see piles of pocketbooks inside of her bunker. He stared at her annoyingly.
“Seriously, Claire? Do you actually need these? You don’t even have time to read them!”
Claire retorted, “Hey! I read them before I go to sleep! And just so you know, those are William Shakespeare books! I heard he’s the greatest playwright in the world of literature. I want to read his books.”
Peter barked, “I don’t even know who he is and I don’t care!” He went to Rocket’s next.
He was even more shocked to see the raccoon’s stuff. “What the heck, dude!”
“What do you mean, ‘what the heck’? Duct tape is that one stuff that binds the universe together!” Rocket reasoned out.
“Yeah, right. And did you also know that it’s also the stuff that BINDS us to Earth’s gravity? We have to jet it out!” Peter finalized.
“My duct tape saves lives! You wanna throw actual weight? Why not throw Gamora’s? And Claire’s, too! Their stuff’s heavier than mine!”
“No one is throwing Shakespeare out!” Claire defensively pointed out.
“My weights are vital to my training and I save more lives than books and tapes. Speaking of tapes,” Gamora stepped towards Peter’s room and opened the sliding door. “Just so you know, Peter, your planet is technologically advanced. They don’t use cassette tapes anymore. Why did you even buy them?”
Peter was trying to avoid that part, but, oh well, in the end you’ll always get caught. He voiced out, “They were a bargain!”
“Look who’s talking now! And my books were a bargain, too! No one will touch them!” Claire announced.
“And none shall remove my corndogs!” Drax persisted.
“Hands off of my duct tapes!” Rocket put out his cannon gun.
“I’m not giving up by love for cassette tapes!” Peter got hold of his Quad Blasters and aimed it at Rocket (since the anthropomorphic mammal was pointing his weapon at the Terran).
“My weights will stay where they should be!” Gamora unsheathed her Godslayer sword.
“I am Groot! (We’re going to crash!)” Groot declared in the intercom, diverting the group’s attention away from each other and to the now descending ship.
“Alright! No more arguments! Let’s just dump ALL of our souvenirs!” Peter commanded.
Everyone had no choice. Their lives were more important than those material things that they bought. As much as Drax wanted to devour all of his ‘lifetime supply’ of corndogs, he was forced to throw them out. Rocket only threw a few pieces of duct tapes. Gamora, whose ‘souvenir’ was the heaviest, threw hers. Claire, though, was struggling because she had to at least leave a few books behind.
“Hamlet must have a good story. What about Julius Caesar? I heard he died in here. Must be a good book to read. Romeo and Juliet? Must be a romance book. I can throw that one out. What else…?” she muttered while the ship was still losing control.
“Claire!” Gamora called out. “You need to toss them out now! The ship is still falling!”
Said female huffed loudly. “Alright, alright! I’m tossing them out now!” Hesitantly, she flung the books away.
Peter also did the same though he was really hesitant of throwing his cassette tapes since he always wanted to update his own awesome mix tape. Then again, he had no choice as well because Gamora persisted him to also think of the now falling Milano. If he didn’t do his part, they would all definitely going to die.
Unfortunately, the ship was still swinging from here and there. Rocket approached Groot.
“Hey, buddy, you need to check your stuff, too.”
“I am Groot.” The tree showed an adorable emerald-colored butterfly inside a jar. Apparently, that’s the only souvenir that he bought.
Rocket, however, had to reason out to his best friend. “Hey, we all have to make sacrifices!”
“I am Groot…” Groot sadly said as he opened the lid of the jar and released the butterfly out of its confinement.
When it flew, it didn’t still end well as the Milano finally lost full power. Gravity did the rest of the job.
“Quill! Do something!” Claire shouted.
“If we survive this crash, I’ll have to purchase more corndogs!” Drax stated in an audible sound to which the rest of the members ignored because there’s no time to be thinking about corndogs if all of them were about to die!

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor| Strange the Dreamer Book 1
What’s It About?
Lazlo Strange has always been an orphan and a dreamer with a goal to see the forgotten city of Weep. Hearing stories about it as a young boy, Lazlo has searched high and low for any scrapes of the city he can find and complies them all into a collection of books.
And then one day, Lazlo’s dreams come true; he is asked to the city of Weep by the city’s own hero: the Godslayer. The city is not what Lazlo imagined but it is still glorious in his dreams. And so is the blue skinned woman who has begun appearing in them.
Why Did I Like It?
Laini Taylor always delivers on gorgeous, dark fantasy. Her series, The Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one of my favorite fantasy trilogies and I was so excited when I found out she was coming out with a new book. And it did not disappoint.
Knowing that the book is going to be a duology makes me even happier because I still had SO MANY QUESTIONS at the end of the book and I liked how it sort of ended on a tragedy because that’s how Daughter of Smoke and Bone went so Laini Taylor still knows how to rip out my heart strings and stomp on them.
