Decided to take a little look at the Formspring over the weekend.
I’m not sure exactly where I left off last time, so I decided to start from the last question I commented on - which means that these are old questions, from way back in the Hivebent era.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m fairly young, or because I’m not American, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reference to either of these shows. I haven’t even heard of the second one.
Let me live, Hussie!
We get some hard numbers for Homestuck’s readership, although I’m sure it had grown significantly by the time Cascade rolled around. For reference, this was posted around the time of WV: Rise up.
Karkat originally described Semi-Perfect Jack as ‘something higher than a queen or a king’, which really made it sound like Jack was stronger than either - but I suppose this makes sense, too.
Jack’s not necessarily stronger than the Queen was - but he’s definitely more dangerous, because he doesn’t follow the normal rules of a Ringbearer. The Queen was a bad-tempered moderator, but Jack is a troll who’s stolen the moderator’s password.
Hussie’s constant teasing of Team Sleuth is honestly pretty funny.
I suppose it makes sense that Prospitian Agents would have different priorities - but what about Prospitian Exiles, Hussie? We’re about to be introduced to four new ones, and they could be anyone.
I like Hussie’s take on creating web content. I agree - you should be making what you want to make, not what gets you the most clicks.
If I had to knock one point off of Homestuck’s rating, it would be due to the comic’s obsession with clowns. My apologies to all the clown lovers out there, but I simply cannot get into them.
I’ve never seen Lost, myself. I hear it initially had potential, but fell apart later on when it had to keep the promises made by its premise.
But I think was sold it for me was when I got the idea to mix the pairs of slime from their respective guardians. The whole weird mess struck me as an especially novel origin story, and the thought of making these 8 babies all at once was just ridiculous enough to be irresistible. Not just because of the mad science/time travel/paradoxical novelty, but because of the new light it put the characters under. Especially the guardians I think. These weird automaton-like authority figures, mostly obstacles in the early going, are quite probably very much like the kids, just at different stages in their weird lives (i.e. the ones where they lose their facial features). They're all kind of like siblings in a way, even if not all biological. (Though some are!) And I think you could pick up on that from some of the early interactions, that for instance Rose was likely a very similar person to her mom. Her mom just happened to be an adult!
Hussie originally saw the Guardians as pretty similar to their kids - and Rose, in particular, would be quite similar to Mom. We’ve already seen that Rose takes after her father, but it sounds like Roxy’s going to match her vibes, too.
Laughing my ass off at the implication that there’s an upper limit to that number.
Damn it, I really was hoping for some sort of anime showdown during the finale.
Mind you, Hussie’s not saying it won’t happen - just that if it does, it won’t take up a third of the comic’s runtime.
God, I am so here for nunchuck Sollux, and I’m getting sadder and sadder that these forum threads are all gone. I wonder what other early headcanons people had for the trolls?
Heh.
See, I kind of figured that Homestuck wouldn’t get fully into the nitty-gritty of a Sburb campaign - but damn, would I still love to see it. I suppose speculating about the game’s mechanics is just as fun, though.
This answer seems to confirm that Terezi had no idea what the Doomsday Scale really was.
I wonder what she thought about the fact that it bore her sign? Did she wonder about the Pyrope who left it there, or did she already have a pretty good idea of who it was likely to be?

as far as gorion's ward is concerned, baldur's gate 1 paints a sympathetic picture of someone with a "scary" mental illness. your family talking about you in vague and foreboding abstracts, overhearing arguments about whether it's safe to let you be around other people when you haven't done anything wrong, strangers insisting they can sense evil in you just from making eye contact, the whole last act feeling like a paranoid delusion.
random NPCs might say they can see darkness in you, but the narrative doesn't support this, and that's the important part. you're never urged to make evil choices by some inner monologue or by magic distorting reality(for example, a hallucination making you think you're killing monsters only for it to be hapless townsfolk). your allies never question your integrity, either. they don't wonder if you're secretly evil after enough fortune tellers recoil from you. i know some of that's walked back in dragonspear during certain moments and i haven't played the sequel(glint's not in it) so i can't say how gorion's ward is treated there but i'm just talking about the original right now.
much like pillars of eternity's portrayal of psychosis in the watcher, it removes as many levels of abstraction as possible between you and those othered for some perceived evil festering inside of them. pillars of eternity does more to portray how specific symptoms can manifest(perceived hallucinations and delusions, dissociation, night terrors, speaking in tongues) and the (largely best-case scenario) reactions to displaying those symptoms while baldur's gate 1 is mostly interested in pointedly nodding towards the social aspects of being mentally ill. considering the era it came out in, i'm not holding that against it, i was pleasantly surprised at what the game did with what it had.
(i missed some sidequests during my playthrough so i might have missed something that invalidates my points of praise. if so, oh well.)
#baldur's gate 1#bg1#also i liked how gorion was consistently referred to as the protagonist's father.#the game lets you know early on that he's not their biological father but there's no effort made to invalidate their familial bond.#there are moments where they refer to him as their father and no one cuts in to correct them with foster or adoptive father. it's nice.

It was a particularly stormy day here in Musutafu but classes continued anyway, much to everyone's dismay. Though, not yours. You got to skip classes today because your father decided to take you with him to work, which was basically just moving you to his classroom for the day, doing nothing.
You were sat beside him in his desk at the front while his students did their activities quietly. Your father was carefully surveying the room and watched each and every one of his students, making sure everyone was well-behaved. You were silently drawing on a piece of paper when he noticed you. "What are you drawing there?" Shota asked in a whisper, turning to face you.
You held up your paper and showed him a... Uh? No wait, what even is that? You showed him a picture of a fat cat with sticks for limbs. The whiskers were too long and—why did you give it bumblebee wings? It was basically a doodle of a cat-bee hybrid.
Shota stared at it for a moment, inspecting the drawing with a confused yet astonished expression. "Why... What is this?" He asked you. You shook your paper in his face with an irritated face, as if telling him 'it's as clear as day'. He looked back at you and set down the paper, "Artistic. Amazing. Picasso." He sarcastically commented before going back to grading his students' papers. You huffed and continued drawing on your paper, adding little details to the doodles you made.
After a while, you yawned, becoming groggy at the boring atmosphere. Shota noticed this and flicked your forehead, snapping you awake. "You can't sleep yet, it's still early in the morning." You groaned at his statement, rubbing your forehead. You stuck you're tongue out at him and Shota rolled his eyes, "That's what you get for staying up late playing Roblox."
You gasped, as if offended. You? Playing Roblox? You would never..! (-admit it to anyone's face.)
You crossed your arms and looked away with a pout. Shota stared at you before letting out a chuckle, causing some of the class to look up in curiosity. You soon felt a smile creeping up on your face and before you know it, you were struggling to keep your laugh in as well.
You looked at him with a dumb smile, responding with, "At least I don't play Candy Crush—" before bursting out into laughter. Shota tried to hush you while trying to keep his laughs quiet, "I don't play that game, shut it!"
The class was staring at the both of you with either amused grins or confused looks.

ROUND FIVE - THE FINAL MATCH.
THE HERO vs SALVANAN vs TAMARA
THE HERO: @technoria
SALVANAN: @the-demoness-next-door
TAMARA: @wokeuptraveledstraightintothesun
VOTE BASED ON THE INFORMATION BELOW CUT!!
Propaganda Content Warnings: Abuse, manipulation, suicidal thoughts for SALVANAN, abandonment, experimenting, cult mentions for TAMARA.
THE HERO:
PROPAGANDA: while their story is still a work in progress the main important detail about them is that they are so fucking doomed to fail their one main goal no matter how close they get to success and this is driving them absolutely batshit. video game protagonist that lost the job of player character to some mass produced level 1 enemy. not once have i drawn them happy
THEME SONG:
SALVANAN:
PROPAGANDA: this poor man. buckle in, you have a LONG one coming. he's very old, he's the god of plants + the earth and he's great i love him but man i have not been nice to him. so. way early in his life, he had a very sweet boyfriend named azyll along w lots of mutual friends. except oops, sal developed chronic anxiety and depression and decided that he did not think he would be good for azyll and broke it off w him. it was amicable but it still sucks. fast forward a bit, one of the friends in their circle, jekath, is being manipulated and hurt for no reason and sal knows but for magic reasons he's incapable of telling anyone, just has to watch. and then he eventually has to watch jekath finally snap under the pressure and betray them all and go evil. no bueno. so he spends a long time feeling terrible and eventually he plans to just. yknow. off himself. but oh surprise this little boy named safari shows up in his garden! and he's like well shit guess im a dad now. and he loves this little boy very much. it's good times! except when he's a teenager two of the little boy's biological brothers drop him off a cliff and nearly kill him, which is, yknow, terrifying. that's his son! his son was almost murdered! no! bueno! anyway, azyll's mortal so eventually he dies of old age, now sal's even sadder. least he's still got his other friends and safari but Man. anyway fast forward again, whole world is at war. and his two best friends, arona and morana, both die in it. but if that was not bad enough, arona was killed by jekath. you know, the old friend that was abused and eventually betrayed them all. so the friend he felt like he failed has now murdered one of his best friends. and his other best friend is ALSO dead. things are just going Great. flash forward another little while and his goddaughter's husband, sibrum, goes evil against his will too. he's known sibrum since he was a kid so now he's got ANOTHER person he felt responsible for gone evil against their will. then sibrum's daughter dies. are you seeing a pattern yet. anyway, sibrum soon kills jekath so now sal feels like he's double failed both of them and also even MORE of his original friends are dead now. so he is trying So Hard to relax! but then safari is turned into a terrible person against his will too! and because they were so so close for so so long they end up in a toxic dynamic instead of cutting each other off. sal finally figures out how to break the spell on safari and it's all Okay Now (they're both traumatized and it's definitely not okay). he gets to relax for only a brief time before his other child's son, volta, has a villain arc too. and what happens? you guessed it! sal tries to stop him and help him and he's not able to. and feels like he failed someone AGAIN. yeah this just happens over and over through the course of his life. he's so tired and sad man
THEME SONG:
TAMARA:
PROPAGANDA: let’s see, lost her family at 7 years old (none of them died there was just a house fire where she was put inside an iron stove to “protect” her by her father (her father doesn’t like her can you tell) and they left her there (the rest of her family thought she’d left already)), (un)fortunately picked up by a guy who took her to a very ethical lab where she was healed! And then forced through many painful experiments. Also she was the executioner for a Lot of people later in the lab time and she’s not even 16 yet. So she escapes at age 16 and spends a year with her girlfriend just existing and processing (poorly) what she had to live through and trying to acclimate to life outside of The Lab. Then her girlfriend (who is a cyborg fun fact) got a virus and so she had to be decommissioned which was not a good time for Tamara.
Other physical details: One of the experiments was a test in how high someone’s empathy can get and. Tamara’s the highest Kyne (the one guy who loves experimenting on her) got. So she’s having a Time. She has lost sensation in her extremities, her bones are weak as Fuck due to being part bird (because of very little bone marrow and airy bones), and she just always looks soggy regardless. Also she’s trans
So she just can Not catch a break and she unfortunately gets exploited by her need for parental love and general guidance in her life and joins a cult :( Like can you see the fact that she just cannot stop being kicked while she is down. (I love her to bits and she is my favorite oc I promise)
THEME SONG:
#oc tournament#round five#final round#oc: the hero#oc: salvanan#oc: tamara#tw abuse#tw manipulation#suicidal thoughts tw#abandonment#experimenting#tw cult#THE FINAL ROUND. if there is a tie i will discount my own vote (because i always vote) and go with the winner then#if all three tie um . dont make them tie

Hello!👋 I was thinking about how canonically we've never really seen anything about Noro and Eto as father-daughter, except that one little flashback of Noro's, when Kuzen gave baby Eto to him. So I was wondering If you have any headcanon about Noro and Eto's time together through the years? How Noro raised her since he adopted her, what their relationship was like before yk...he was not himself anymore? What Eto was as a kid like? Just anything that come into your mind!🙂
YES YES YES THESE POOR BASTARDS
Kuzen and Noro have known each other for a very long time and dated briefly before deciding to remain friends. They were each others only close friends, going as far as Noro hunting for Kuzen when he was hurt and Kuzen caring for Noro during his rough kakuja transformation. They had a falling out when he stared dating a human though, Noro insisting he stop because it would’ve dangerous, and Kuzen refused to listen, so they didn’t talk again until he showed up with Eto and V after him. He knew that Noro, regardless of what’s happened between them and what his daughter is, would be capable and willing to protect her. They never saw each other again after that until Noro was unrecognizable
Suddenly having a half human baby was a very strange experience, and he was woefully unprepared, but Noro did his best to raise her. He didn’t blend in with humans, or even know how they lived for the most part, so the first few years he just treated her like a normal ghoul child, which she thankfully mostly acted like. She was a pretty quiet baby, content to just be held and fed human blood through a rubber glove he poked a hole in since it’s sorta like a bottle.
Her hopper phase was another thing entirely. Noro was afraid when she was a whole year old and couldn’t even climb a building yet, but she was just a late bloomer due to her human side. At around 18 months she was sprinting up trees and through storm drains and he was relieved to have to chase her down through the streets because it meant she was healthy. Though he did need to fashion a child harness out of chains because she would chew through any other materiel
Noro was always anxious about how she’d turn out. Hybrids are practically unheard of, so he would constantly be picking her up and examining her like a show cat trying to figure out if she was normal, and little Eto was cool with it because she thought this was just a fun game they did. She had the dip between her shoulder blades that normally marks where an Ukaku would form, but, knowing nothing about medicine, let alone hybrids, he feared it wouldn’t work right. She already has one eye that won’t turn kakugan, what else could be wrong? She had a terrible habit of making eye contact, that could get her in trouble. Her teeth grew in too slowly, and her incisors seemed too dull. Would she be able to hunt like that?
They spent her early life running from place to place, sheltering in abandoned buildings and the homes of people he killed. That’s how he was raised, so it’s how he would raise her. They would sometimes join up with groups, but Noro quickly became wary of other ghouls after a terrifying close call with a ghoul in a group trying to steal her as a toddler because, to his horror, one eyed ghouls are considered a delicacy to some. He hid her away more, and if they went out he tied a cloth over her human eye
Eto was a smart kid. She didn’t start talking until she was five, but that’s not uncommon for ghouls. And once she did she never stopped, she was always asking questions about things, asking about how the world worked, or why they’re different from humans, or who her mother was. Noro kept up a lie at first, making up a fake name for her mother, not telling her that he isn’t her biological father, or why one of her eyes never turned black. It seemed safer that way. Besides, as much as he was preparing her for a life of horrors and violence, he wanted to preserve the happy kid she was. She was innocent and tiny, even for her age, and he wanted her to cling to his back under his cloak while he kept them both safe for as long as possible.
Eto has the ability to taste and process human food. It started with her in her hopper phase grabbing dropped food off the ground and putting it in her mouth, and if Noro didn’t wrestle it away in time she would consume it. Yet she never seemed to get sick, and when she started talking she would ask for more of it. He wasn’t sure at first, but after enough times pulling his child out of trash cans in her quest for cold fries, he relented and started bringing home things from people’s fridges after he hunts them to supplement her meals
When she was seven her kagune first formed, and it was even more stressful than usual because Noro didn’t know if it would come out okay, or even at all. Once it started he rushed her deep into the basement they were staying in and waited with her until her first kagune pierced its way out, and it looked just like Kuzen’s. She’d never seen him cry before, but he couldn’t help it. At last he knew for sure that his daughter would be healthy and okay on her own
Eto wasn’t able to go to school, but she still craved knowledge. She figured things out quicker than Noro could hide them. She snuck out when she was little to go to parks and schools where human kids were, stealing snippets of instruction on how to read and do simple math. Even when he caught her and made it clear how dangerous that is, she was too far gone. Her reading took off, her reasoning skills flourished, and Noro found that he was unable to hide things from her. He followed her on one of her secret excursions, seeing her speak to humans so easily in a way that simply comes naturally to her, seeing her lie effortlessly to librarians and reading books and using the computers there.
He talked with her when she came home, and she tended when he told her he knew where she was going, but surprisingly he told her that he understands. That he can’t keep her from it forever, that she’s just like her father. He told her where she really came from, what she really is, and Eto was furious at first, but it didn’t take long for her to cool down. She had her suspicions that there was something wrong with her, that there was something strange about how little she looked like Noro, but she concluded that it was her birth father and mother who fucked up by creating a hybrid they couldn’t care for. That Noro was still her dad
Until she was fourteen, they had an easy, comfortable relationship. Noro taught her everything he could, how to hunt, how to fight, how to secure territory and tend to wounds. Eto learned eagerly and made sure to utilize those skills on a daily basis, though it usually meant Noro being tackled out of nowhere by his small but way too strong child. She would go to the library as long as Noro could be somewhere nearby in case of danger, and she would return to him raving about whatever new thing she’s learned. Soon she was old and prepared enough to do things on her own, she could even hunt for them when Noro’s kakuja was flaring up and he wasn’t able to do much
When V finally found them, Noro made her run, knowing that she could be okay without him. He intended to either find her after he killed off their exterminators, or to die in the process as long as it keeps her safe. He was half successful, taking out enough V agents that Eto could get away, but he got too injured to find her, and barely survived until she came back a couple days later and found him in the burnt wreckage of their last hiding place
He’s suffered a great deal of damage to his body as well as his brain, and since then Eto had been caring for him, but he doesn’t understand what’s going on. He’s not usually aware of anything around him, and he’s rarely able to string together thoughts enough to communicate in the ways Eto has tried to come up with, but he’s still capable of fighting with her directions. Noro doesn’t know who he’s fighting or why, he doesn’t even know how much time has passed and that his daughter is calling the shots all across tokyo. But he still fights because even in his most lucid state, to him Eto is forever fourteen years old, and he needs to take care of her

Part Six
Karen decided it was time for a girls’ night. You had met Marci a couple times when you’ve dropped by the office with coffee or met Karen for lunch and the two of you got along so far. When Karen pitched the idea to you, you were a little nervous but thought a fun night without the sexual tension you felt with Matt would be a nice change. You knew Marci and Foggy were serious and could tell from how Foggy spoke about her that she was end game for him. Since you’d quickly grown to adore Foggy, this was the perfect opportunity to develop a friendship with Marci.
Marci suggested a nice dinner somewhere with an excellent bar and you quickly agreed. It was a little bit of a walk from the Nelson, Murdock, and Page office but doable and you could take a cab home. This was the first time you had the occasion to dress a little nicer than usual, so you took your time getting ready, enjoying the process. You couldn’t remember the last time you wore a dress or heels and decided to go for it tonight but made sure you took a bag large enough to slip a pair of flats in, just in case. You dabbed a small amount of your favorite perfume on your wrists and throat before giving yourself a final once over in your full-length mirror.
Your burgundy sweaterdress would help keep you warm under your coat in the early December chill while your heeled ankle boots did little for warmth but looked too cute to pass up. You were grateful to Karen for the reminder to pick up tights the last time you were out, knowing you may need them to help layer as winter fully set in. You felt girly and pretty and just excited to make a new friend and have a relaxing night out.
Walking to the office to meet Karen, you reflected on the last few months of your life. While you still missed your mom and had days where the grief kept you from functioning properly, those days were happening less and less. You felt you were exactly where you needed to be at this moment in your life and you knew your parents—your mom, stepdad, and biological father—would be pleased with the close relationship you and Karen had developed. As you arrived at the office and pulled open the outer door to head into the warmth of the building, you sent up a prayer of thanks to whoever was listening.
The office was quiet for a change as you entered through the interior door, finding it a little unsettling. The lights were on and Karen’s desk looked to be in a slight state of disarray as it was typically mid-day, not how she liked it when she was about to leave.
“Hello?” you called quietly.
You heard a chair move and steps towards the open door of Matt’s office before he stepped into the shared space. “Hey, Y/N, I didn’t know you’d be stopping by today.”
“Hey Matt,” you stepped over to give him a quick hug which he reciprocated without hesitation. As you started to pull away, he held you still with his hands as his face was buried in your hair and neck.
“You smell incredible,” he said softly.
“Oh,” you blushed at his compliment as he released his hold to let you step back. “It’s my favorite perfume, thank you.” You stood staring at him, noticing a light bruise on his cheek and a cut on his lip. “Matt, what happened?” you asked as you gently stroked the bruised area to indicate what you meant. You started looking him over for other injuries, your night out pushed to the back of your mind with your concern for him.
“It’s nothing, I promise. I like to box from time to time and stopped a couple of the punches with my face. It’s no big deal.”
“Well, I disagree, I think it is a big deal,” you started, scolding him lightly, “I happen to like your face, so you need to be more careful with it.”
“You do, huh?” Matt smirked at your admission. You could have smacked yourself for confessing it so plainly but decided to go with it. You could moan and groan to Karen and Marci later over drinks.
“Come off it, Matt. You know you’re beautiful, I’ve heard the stories from Foggy about all the ladies over the years.”
“Maybe I’m just charming?” Matt countered, grinning fully now. “But we seem to have gone from you liking my face to finding me beautiful. That’s a big jump, sweetheart.”
“Ah, goddamn it,” you murmured softly as you looked up for some deity to save you from yourself.
Chuckling at your distress, Matt stepped forward and slipped a hand under your open coat to rest it on your lower back and tugged you closer to him. Without his glasses and his face so close to yours, you could see how beautiful his hazel eyes were as his gaze rested on your cheek. You were trembling slightly at the intense need that flooded your system at his closeness and touch. Matt took a deep inhale and closed his eyes as if he were trying to keep his composure. The hand on your back flexed slightly and his other hand came up to brush away the piece of hair that managed to get stuck in your lip gloss. He tucked the stray hair behind your ear and your eyes looked longingly at his mouth. As if he knew, Matt slowly licked his lips before taking another inhale and groaning softly.
“For the record, I find you quite beautiful as well.”
“I’m not sure that’s possible,” you whispered.
“I don’t have to be able to see to know that you are,” Matt responded with a slight frown.
“No, I don’t mean that,” you clarified softly, “I just mean that I’m not beautiful. I’ve been called cute, pretty on special occasions, but never beautiful. So, I think you may be mistaken.”
Matt pulled back slightly in shock at your response but before he could formulate a reply, the door burst open as Karen and Foggy rushed inside. They both froze at the sight before them, and you flushed a dark crimson at getting caught in a semi-intimate position with Matt again. You stepped away from Matt and cleared your throat, “You ready to head out Karen?”
“Um…yeah…” Karen slowly responded as she walked to her desk to drop the paperwork in her hand.
“What is happening right now?” Foggy asked, still frozen and looking from you to Matt and then glancing at Karen before moving his gaze back.
“We’re having a girls’ night with Marci. Didn’t she tell you?” You responded, keeping your eyes on Foggy and Karen, avoiding Matt’s reaction.
“I think she mentioned it but that is not what I meant.”
“Well, I just came to meet Karen and then we’re walking to the restaurant so, that’s what’s happening,” you answered, avoiding what you thought he was actually asking.
“We’re going to have to leave now to make it on time for the reservation,” Karen interjected as she observed the situation. You wore a nervous and slightly downcast expression while Matt was looking towards you with a mix of emotions and his hands on his hips as if he were going to start a cross-examination. Foggy, for his part was still rooted to his spot just inside the door with a look of bewilderment on his face.
“Right! Okay, have a good night, guys. Don’t work too late,” you said as you gave a haphazard wave and rushed out the door.
Karen followed you and whispered to Matt and Foggy as she pulled the door closed, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
The two of you walked quickly towards the restaurant in silence. Karen wanted to give you time to settle and relax with a couple drinks before getting you to divulge what she had just witnessed. You were praying that she would let what she saw drop but had a feeling it wouldn’t be that easy.
Marci arrived just as you and Karen were opening the doors to the restaurant. Relieved she wasn’t kept waiting, the three of you exchanged greetings and quick hugs before checking in with the host. After checking your coats, the three of you were led to a booth in a far corner.
Drinks and dinner were ordered quickly and conversation began without mention of the incident. The longer you sat there, the more you found that you liked Marci and could see how she and Foggy worked well together, even if it wasn’t quite as obvious at the outset. Finishing your second gin and tonic, you laughed at story Marci was telling about a partner in her law firm.
“And he didn’t even bother locking the door! I walked in to give him the settlement paperwork and he was standing in the middle of his office with his pants in one hand and a hair dryer in the other! I’ve never seen someone turn that shade of red!”
Wiping away a tear, you commented, “You would think after getting caught drying his pants like that the first time he’d learn to lock the door! Or keep a spare set of pants at the office!”
“Those WERE his spare pants!”
The three of you cackled and you managed to flag down the waiter to order another round of drinks. As your laughter died down, you smiled at the women across from you and said, “This was such a good idea. I can’t remember the last time I went out like this.”
“Agreed!” started Marci as she sipped her fresh cocktail, “but Foggy Bear mentions that you join them at Josie’s pretty often.”
“Well, you know, it’s different with the guys…”
Karen saw her opening and pounced, “You mean it’s different with Matt.”
You flushed slightly at her call-out and just responded, “Mmhmm.”
“I am so out of the loop!” exclaimed Marci, “What is happening between you and Matt?”
You glanced at Marci and Karen, unsure of what to say. You settled on keeping it simple, “You know, he’s my neighbor and works with Karen so I see him a lot…that’s all.”
“That is so not all,” Karen quickly responded. She turned slightly to Marci while also keeping you in her periphery. “I have walked in on them twice now on the verge of kissing and when Y/N had us over for dinner, Matt was calling her sweetheart, and you could tell they completely forgot Foggy and I were at the table by the end of the night. I thought she was going to crawl into Matt’s lap during dessert!”
“Karen!” you admonished as you placed your cool hands on your cheeks in hopes to calm your flushing.
“Am I wrong?” Karen challenged.
“No,” you answered in a quiet voice.
“Let me get this straight,” Marci started using her lawyer voice as if she were presenting facts to the jury. “There is tension, like extreme sexual tension and you two literally live across the hall from one another but based on the way the two of you are talking about this, you haven’t even kissed yet?”
“Um…maybe? I mean, I feel the tension but I don’t know if Matt does.”
“Trust me,” Karen interjected, “Matt feels the tension. We all feel the tension.”
You dropped your head in your hands and groaned as Marci asked, “Okay, I gotta know, what is the problem here?”
What was the problem? you asked yourself. Honestly, there were two main issues that held you back and you took a moment to mull over the best way to explain.
“If I’m being honest,” you began hoping to explain yourself clearly, “there are two things holding me back right now. The first is that I know Matt is a flirt so I’m not sure if he’s flirting with me because it’s fun or because he’s actually interested.”
“He’s interested, trust me,” interrupted Karen.
“Is he? Because I’ve watched him flirt with other women in front of me when we’ve picked up coffee or even at Josie’s.”
“I am seriously going to have to have a talk with that man,” muttered Karen.
“I’m going to have to withhold judgement on your first point until I can see how he is with you,” Marci said. “However, based on Karen’s description and your reaction, I have a feeling there’s a difference between what he’s doing with you and what he’s doing out in the wild, so to speak. Sometimes people flirt to smooth over interactions that might be a little prickly otherwise.”
You considered Marci’s suggestion and filed it away to give more thought when you were fully sober. It seemed logical but you knew you couldn’t trust your judgement right now.
“You said two issues, what’s the second?” Karen asked.
You blew out a breath to help steady yourself. This was the issue that was truly getting in your way. “The second point has more to do with me. The best way to explain it is just that I’m not a fan of casual dating or hookups. I’ve been told that I’m the ‘relationship’ or ‘marriage’ girl and it’s true. And honestly, at this point in my life, I don’t want to get into something if the other person isn’t also looking for something long term.”
“I’m still not quite seeing the problem here…” Marci said.
“I’ve heard the stories about Matt from Foggy and Karen and I don’t judge him, but it doesn’t sound like he’s interested in settling down. I don’t want to ruin what is starting to be a lovely friendship or make things awkward for anyone.”
“For arguments sake,” started Karen, “have you tried casual dating?”
“Yeah, before mom got sick,” you threw back the rest of your drink and contemplated another. “It was awful. I can’t tell you the number of times I came home crying because some douchebag tried to pressure me into giving him a blowjob twenty minutes after meeting or the ones who basically negged me until I left.”
Karen reached over to pat your hand reassuringly and Marci gave you an understanding smile. You continued, “The worst one was when I tried a one-night stand. The sex was mediocre and after the guy answered the phone on speaker and it was another girl he was arranging a hookup with for that night! I think I scrubbed off a layer of skin in the shower that night; the whole thing made me feel used and disgusting.”
“Matt would never treat you that way, if you guys did just hook-up, you know,” Karen said softly.
“I know, and it’s not about how I think Matt would treat me in that kind of situation. It’s more that I just can’t do it and I don’t want to end up resenting Matt because of a choice I made. At this point, I like him too much for a casual thing to be enough for me anyways.”
Marci looked at you with a shrewd but not unkind expression as she tapped the glass she was holding thoughtfully. “Based on conversations with Foggy Bear and what I’ve witnessed over the past couple years, I would say that Matt may be at a point where he’s ready to settle down. Karen, have you heard about any hookups lately?”
Karen thought for a moment as you watched her, “Actually I think it’s been several months, even before you moved here, Y/N.”
You felt your heart flutter with hope in your chest, “Really?”
Marci continued, “To be perfectly honest, I thought Karen was going to be the one to tie Matt down.”
The hope you felt fluttering in your chest sunk like a rock into the pit of your stomach. “What do you mean?”
Your question caused both Marci and Karen to freeze as you waited for an answer. “Did you and Matt date, Karen? Was it serious?”
Karen sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “We went on a couple dates and kissed but that was it. This was a few years ago, not too long after I met him.”
“Why didn’t it work out?” you asked quietly as you fiddled with the napkin in your lap.
Karen thought for a moment and you appreciated that she was attempting to give you honest answers rather than brush away the information and what you were feeling. “I think in part it was timing,” she began, “and then a lot of things happened that drove a wedge between us. We were able to come back from it all to be friends but we missed our window and the romantic feelings weren’t there anymore.”
“So,” you began nervously, “you know the romantic feelings weren’t there for you but they could still be there for Matt?”
“They’re not,” Karen quickly answered.
“How do you know? Did you two ever actually talk about it after things settled down?”
“Well, no, but I can tell it’s not there for him anymore either. If it were, he wouldn’t be flirting with you, Y/N.”
You sat quietly as your thoughts swirled in your head. You knew you couldn’t think through all of this new information logically, but it didn’t stop your emotions from swelling and a tear sliding down your cheek.
Karen panicked slightly and glanced at Marci who appeared equally as alarmed. Sliding in the booth closer to you, Karen put an arm around you to help ground you and to pull your focus. “Hey,” she said softly, “what’s going on? Why are there tears?”
“How can he want to be with me when he could be with you Karen?” you whispered. “You’re so beautiful and I know we’re sisters but we’re not physically alike at all. I know he can’t see us but the difference is going to be so obvious he’s not going to want me if he could have you.”
“He can’t have me, Y/N,” Karen replied softly.
“You know what I mean,” you sniffled.
Marci, having heard your quiet response to Karen, reached across the table for your hand. You obliged and slipped yours into her waiting one and she clutched it tight. “Why do you think so poorly of yourself, Y/N? From what I can tell, you’re a smart, driven, kind, lovely person, inside and out, and you are WAY out of Matt’s league.”
You laughed softly and wiped at your tears with your napkin. “I’m not sure about that last part,” you began, “I can usually keep the negative self-talk at bay, but it always rears its ugly head at the most inopportune times.” You sighed and decided to tell them the rest, to get it all out on the table. “I don’t want to be anyone’s consolation prize or backup plan. I’ve been that before and it hurts too much.”
“What makes you say that Y/N? What happened?” Karen asked gently.
You cleared your throat and started fidgeting with your napkin again. “The boyfriend I had in college told me when he broke up with me. He wanted to date my friend but she was already in a relationship so he pursued me so he could basically have a warm body but also to have a chance to hang out with my friend more.”
“Motherfucker,” spat Marci in disgust.
“Oh, it gets better, or I guess, worse,” you laughed bitterly. “When my friend and her boyfriend broke up, he waited just long enough and swooped in after being her shoulder to cry on. They hooked up and started dating. Only after did he tell me and break up with me.”
“You have got to be kidding me!” Karen said with outrage in her voice.
“I wish I was. I wish I could say they both got their comeuppance, and it blew up in their faces but…”
“No,” whispered Marci.
“Yep, they’re married now.”
“Jesus Christ,” Karen said before finishing her drink. “No wonder you feel this way. You know Matt would never do that to you, right?”
“I know, but it doesn’t mean the insecurity and fear just goes away. I guess the surprise of this history with you two brought these old emotions back to the surface.” You ran your hands through your hair to try and shake off the baggage that decided to make an unwelcome appearance on what was supposed to be a fun night.
“I’m sorry for dumping on you guys, I think my drinks were a little stronger than I expected,” you chuckled.
Karen looked at you thoughtfully and then asked, “You mentioned a while back that no one had managed to get you off or really even turn you on much before. Is what you mentioned, the boyfriend and disgusting casual dates all you’ve experienced? Like have you ever dated anyone at least considerate and sweet to you, even if the chemistry wasn’t there?”
You shook your head sadly, “When I decided to moved here, I thought that maybe it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve been lucky enough to have an amazing family and the career of my dreams. Maybe it was just too much for the universe to give me a romantic love on top of it all?”
Marci’s eyebrows were practically in her hairline with the skeptical look she was giving you. “You know it’s not like a pie, right? Love and happiness aren’t finite things.”
“I get that in theory, but it hasn’t seemed to pan out in my life that way.”
“Maybe,” Karen interjected, “it’s because you weren’t supposed to meet anyone yet. So you could focus on your family like you did the last couple years. And now you’re ready to find that romantic love?”
You stared at the table with a frown on your face. You hadn’t really considered that timing may have been the biggest factor. With all the caretaking and death that happened in the last few years, along with juggling your budding writing career, you don’t know if you would have been able to give a romantic relationship the attention it deserved.
“Can we rewind for just a second?” Marci started, “Did I hear Karen right that none of these guys, even that piece of shit boyfriend in college, ever managed to get you off?”
Snapping your head up you looked at Marci and then sagged back into your seat. “Not one. Not even close.”
“This is a travesty,” Marci said with indignation. “Please tell me you’ve at least ascribed to the school of self-love?”
You laughed at Marci’s phrasing and the genuine smile on your face relaxed the two other women into smiling with you. “Oh, I am well-versed. You could say I have a double PhD—one in history and one in orgasms.”
The three of you laughed and Marci flagged the waiter for a final round of drinks. Once they arrived, she lifted her glass and you and Karen followed suit. “A toast for you, Y/N. May Matt Murdock get on his knees and atone for the disappointing past lovers! And sooner rather than later!”
Flushing from the alcohol and her toast, you clicked glasses with your friends and hoped Marci’s toast would become a reality.

Comic reading 101 or: I don't know what I want to read, can you help?
my inbox is open if you have some story you'd like to read specifically, those are just recs of storylines that I really like.
This lists purpose is to give you general recommendations. Scroll down a bit through the bolded parts, see if something sounds good.
You want to read about a group of teenagers doing teenage shenanigans? I recommend New Teen Titans (1983), or Young Justice (1998)
New teen titans is the team you're used to if you used to watch the teen titans show. Much like the other comics at that time, the issues can seem disconnected, and the story arcs are short. If you want to read about Dick Grayson, that would be a good place to read about him.
If you'd rather read about Tim Drake, or you would like something where the absurdity is closer to the 90s and early 2000s, Young Justice is excellent. If you enjoyed watching DC legends of tomorrow, this might be the run for you. Much like in legends, they play a game to save the Earth, once, and also kill Santa Claus.
You got here from Batfamily, and you'd like to read about the members? Let me do a rapid fire list of good stories for each.
For Bruce: there are a thousand reading guides out there, but the storylines you'll most likely be most interested in will be the Jason dies, and the Tim joins the batfamily ones. Those are respectively, Death of the Family, and A Lonely Place for Dying
For Dick: I don't have a solid recommendation for a run, but I'll tell you that I did enjoy Nightwing Rebirth and Nightwing Infinite. Those are both under the Nightwing (2016) label, and are issues 1-50, then 73-present. The twenty five issues in the middle are not worth reading.
For Jason: Under the Red Hood is a must, but if you're tired of reading by that point, the animated movie is a good substitute. After that, I'd recommend Red Hood Lost Days. I'd also recommend, for your hurt/comfort, the story Cheer, which you can find in issues 1-6 of Batman Urban Legends.
For Tim: after a lonely place for dying, if Tim really is your little guy, he has a long run in 1993. It's extremely dense, and it should last you a while. After that, you can look up Battle for the Cowl (no need to read it), and jump into Red Robin.
For Cass: Batgirl (2000) is a must, as well as the No Man's land storyline, though that one is harder to read.
For Steph: Batgirl (2009) is the largest solo run she's had. It's very good.
For Duke: We Are Robins is a twelve issues mini that fully introduces his character. After that, he appears in Batman (2016).
For Damian: Robin: son of Batman, then Batman&Robin, both by Tomasi and Morrison ate where a large part of his character développement come from. For something light hearted, try Supersons and Adventures of the Supersons.
What appealed to me in Batfam was the found family, but they're too dysfunctional in canon, what can I read with those same feels? The found family is pretty much there in any superhero comics, but I feel you. Ranked by levels of functionality:
The flashfam is there for your fluff and light conflict. They don't always get along (see: flash war) but they generally like each other, and they generally don't have the sort of conflict the batfam has. Most of them *are* biologically related, but it's all kind of weird. For a kid getting a father figure, read Impulse (1995), or Wally West's early appearances.
The superfam has issues, but they've mostly worked through them. Kind of. Right now, in Action Comics, they get along. You can pretty much pick any character who isn't Clark or Jon, and start reading about them, and they're found familied. If you want some specifically family related conflict, though, I'd read about Kon.
The arrowfam is like the Batfamily, only they actually try to communicate. I've got different shades of found family in that one: if you want a biological son reconnects with his father after said father was dead for a period of time, read about Connor Hawke (green arrow 2001). If you want father daughter bonding between a man and a kid he collected, read about Mia (green arrow 2001). If you want to read about the first kid that got adopted, it'll be a tad trickier, but read about Roy Harper (issues in Action Comics, you'll have to look that one up, but it's usually only a dozen issues at a time)
The batfamily, but I put a guide higher up.
I kind of want to read about a character that not many people talk about, because I'm scared I'll post a bad take and get dogpiled. First off, that shouldn't happen, and if it does, assume it's from a comic bro not worth your time. Second off, I can only offer EXTRMELY biased recs here, but it's a wild world, if you want a specific flavor of character, it exists. Most of the ones I like turn out to be similar enough.
Thad Thawne: you can read his major storyline in Impulse 1995, issues 62-66. He's of the traumatized child variety.
Jean-Paul Valley: he has quite a large role in 90s comics, during the Knightfall saga, but reading Dark Knight Of The Soul and Sword of Azrael (both from around 2020) are a decent intro. Of the cult made variety.
Lonnie Machin: you can read him in his two solos, Anarky 97 and Anarky 99, and there is a comprehensive reading guide on @/azbats page. It doesn't take long to go through.
Mother Panic: also of the cult made variety, she has a 12 issues mini called Mother Panic, as well as a 6 issues one called Mother Panic Gotham AD.
Xanthe: this one can be found currently, in Spirit World. It's only 4 issues so far, not much to catch up on.
In general, fans of the characters that usually don't get much mainstream content (the magic people of DC, like Constantine or Zatanna, or the Aquaman family, or the Amazon family for exemple) are very open to new comers wanting to learn more about these characters. They'll be extatic to give you short reading guides if you ask for them (and you can ask simply for the barebones recommendations, to get the very gist of the character)
There are a lot more out there. A *lot*. You'll find a character you like.
I want to read classic comics, so that I know the very basic ones. Kind of a tough question, and one I don't fully have a response to. I can give you well known Batman storylines but what is considered a classic varies from person to person. In no particular order:
Batman: A long Halloween
Batman: Hush
Batman: Death of the Family
Batman: Under the Red Hood
I want an au, I don't like the way things are in batman comics. I can't offer you that many, it's not something I read a lot about, but:
Batman: White Knight (start with white knight, there are many spin offs, but they're generally given at the end of the last issue)
Dark Knights of Steel (12 issues!)
I want something that feels like fanfiction! There's some of that too, trust me
Cheer (Jason hurt/comfort) (batman: urban legends 1-6)
Knight Terrors Robin (Tim and Jason bonding) (2 issues)
Nightwing written by Tom Taylor (Dick fixing issues) (issues 73 on)
Red Robin (Tim having an absolute shit time and being a badass) (less than 30 issues)
All of these are generic recommendations. They're not the end all be all of reading lists for any given character, far from it. But hopefully, you manage to narrow down the vibe you want, and find something that interests you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in my inbox, I'll be glad to infodump.
To read any of this, typing "[comic title] read online" is extremely effective, so long as you have an adblocker.
#what do i even tag this#people who are alrezady into comics dont tell me to add x or y story i know this list is far from perfect its not the point#comics#comics culture#dc comics#batman#bruce wayne#jason todd#red hood#dick grayson#stephanie brown#tim drake#cassandra cain#damian wayne

Arkhelios Adventures
"Master Maricourt. You're late."
Ewan Maricourt straightened his spine and attempted to remain professional. He had been busy preparing for the Pleasantview Academy of Magic's fall term when a surprise visit from the queen had been announced, and all hell had broken loose. Student records and teacher paysheets were crumpled on the floor of his office as Ewan scrambled to find formalware appropriate for the queen.
"I apologize, Your Majesty," he said with a graceful bow. "Preparations are underway for the new school year and there is much to do. Any visit from you, though, is a gift to your humble servants."
"Wow, Dad's really off his game to be kissing the ring this much, even before school starts," Remy worried. "What does the queen want? To borrow Theo for even longer?"
"I hope not," Adam muttered. "I haven't seen him all summer. Between Mom and Her Majesty, there hasn't been a second of time to even see him in person."
"So just break into his dreams like you did last time," Remy suggested, causing Adam's scowl to deepen.
"No, I think that was a one-time kind of thing. Besides, he's not in some magically protected place this time. He's practically down the street at the palace! It's so stupid."
Remy scoffed, unwilling to listen to Adam drone on about his inconvenient, star-crossed love. Soon enough, he'd be jamming his tongue in Theo's mouth and the whole school would have to watch the two of them talk about their many annoying plans for the future.
"Well, absence makes the heart grow fonder," she sighed. "God help us if that's true."
"Master Maricourt. It's good to see you."
Miruna met her fiancée and smiled at her father. It had been too long since she had been to see him. Despite working with little magic users at the Princess Zarah Academy, she didn't have a lot of time to spend with the rest of the Pleasantview coven.
"Your Highness."
Ewan bowed to his daughter, trying to remain professional for the sake of the queen. There was a seriousness about her that he couldn't read. Between her worrying attitude and setting up class schedules, Ewan was about to collapse from stress.
"Let's talk inside," Claudia suggested, as if Ewan had a choice in the matter. "There's coven matters that must be discussed before the start of school."
Princess Victoriana rushed to the door to greet her mother, followed closely by her Uncle Travis. Victoriana was supposed to be on the school grounds helping prepare the school for the new term, but Travis was a surprise.
"Travis! What a pleasant surprise! Mom and Dad let you stay at the school early? That doesn't sound like them."
Claudia hugged her little brother, genuinely surprised but glad to see him. Maybe their parents were off at work. There had to be some reason her overprotective parents let their youngest child out of their sight when school was right around the corner and they would only see him on weekends.
"They're busy with work," Travis confirmed. "There's some portal open somewhere, and some reapers are missing or something. They didn't really explain, but it means that I get to help sort the books in the school library today instead of enduring an afternoon of family board games."
Claudia groaned with sympathy, knowing exactly how tedious family board games were with their parents. They didn't even have any of the good games, just cooperative games where everyone either won or lost together. Every time someone insinuated that her father might be as evil as his biological father, Claudia just imagined family board game night, and the idea seemed impossible.
"Lucky you," she laughed. "Well, I won't keep you. I'm sure you have a stack of books calling your name. Don't forget to call Ollie and me from time to time this term. We may not all live in the same house anymore, but I do miss spending time with my little brothers."
Remy lurked outside the hall where the queen and Remy's father had disappeared into the coven meeting chamber. There was something ominous in the air that she couldn't quite place, and it was driving her crazy.
She had been at the Siew cottage when the queen of Twikkii Island was attacked and had seen violence first hand. Within the past year, she'd witnessed dead bodies strewn in a royal cottage and had watched her father frantically try to keep her twin brother from dying in his arms in the room down the hall. It had been a dangerous year so far, and Remy couldn't seem to shake the sense that more danger followed the queen today. A meeting this unexpected had to be something big.
"How can I help, Your Majesty?" Ewan asked cautiously, taking a seat next to the queen. "Is everything well? I can call the rest of the coven if you wish."
Claudia shook her head, and some tension left Ewan's shoulders. A private meeting without the coven meant that any threat she was here to discuss would be minor.
"No, this involves your role as head of this academy," Claudia explained. "There has been a request to accept a new student this term. That place we agreed to send Theo to study? Well, it seems like they would like us to return the favour."
"An exchange student? I thought that realm was sealed outside of emergencies like Theo's meltdown. The amount of documents I needed to sign just to get his foot in the door was astronomical. What's the catch here?"
"No obvious catch, though I'm sure there is one. There always is. On paper, it's just a request to send a sixteen year old boy for the school year, living in the dorm with a meal plan. Unofficially? I have no idea. I know very little about Jubilant Accosts outside of what the onboarding team told us regarding Theo. They're strict and...religious, that's all I know."
"They descend from a medieval society just as Pleasantview evolved from Old Tredony," Ewan supplied. "The forms I had to sign for Theo were written in the Old Tredony language. I guess they thought we still spoke it for some reason. I had to get a coven elder to even understand what language I was looking at. But as long as they send me a list of whatever is needed, I can add this boy to the register today."
Claudia nodded. Her hands folded in her lap, signaling that she had more to say but was waiting for his full attention.
"I want to have eyes on this boy day and night," she said at last. "I will have one of my royal guards posted at the school to supervise him. Ewan, I need you to protect this school and its students and never let this boy out of your sight. It...it makes me uneasy to accept this student, but it's the best way to know what this strange land may want from us. Why are they reaching out now and why this boy? We sent them Theo when he was a danger to himself and others. Perhaps this boy is in the same situation."
Ewan frowned.
"But it was our demons and our council that even nominated Jubilant Accosts for Theo in the first place. The demonic sovereign enthusiastically supported the idea. It's a place as ancient as Pleasantview and-"
"And just as dangerous," Claudia interrupted irritably. "There are sections of Pleasantview darker than one could ever imagine, and I trust that this place is no different. Maybe they want to develop a relationship between our nations or maybe they're interested in something darker. After the attacks on Maura, I can't take that chance. Every sense in my body is screaming that this is dangerous, but I can't risk a bad relationship with an unknown power. I need you to protect this school and watch this boy."
"Of course, Your Majesty," Ewan replied. He understood the dilemma the queen was in and how dangerous the road may be before them, but this was just another important thing to cram into his already packed schedule. It looked like he'd be sleeping in his office again. "What is the boy's name? Does he have parents or siblings to call ahead of time with the supply list for the semester?"
"His name is Sebastian Wall," Claudia replied. "No parents, no siblings, no home address. All I've received is a name and an age and that he can perform defensive and battle magic with ease. He'd like to study our history and learn healing magic from what I've been told, and I'm more than happy to authorize that. If he wanted access to our battle magic, that would be out of the question."
"Of course. I'll hide some of our more dangerous tomes in the restricted area, just to be safe."
Remy wasn't sure if she felt better having eavesdropped or not. True, the queen wasn't worried about an offensive strike any time soon, but the possibility still lingered. What did this strange nation want, and why only send one teenager? Was it just because Pleasantview had sent one teenager to them? Was he a spy? Was he going to attack Pleasantview like Twikkii Island had been?
Still, a teenage boy was no challenge to Remy. She had every boy in Pleasantview eating out of her hand (aside from her twin, of course), winning this Sebastian over would be easy. She would do her patriotic duty and keep an eye on this newcomer for Her Majesty. There was no way Remy could handle being at ground zero of another attack. This Sebastian was going to fail at whatever he had come here to do.
"Do you ever think that we'll have our portraits hung up at school someday?" Travis asked a very bored looking Victoriana. He'd run into her on his way to the library and he usually didn't mind talking to his niece. She was well educated and reasonable, unlike most of the teenagers who attended his school.
"Well, I definitely will when I inherit the throne one day," Victoriana replied, as if this should be obvious. Clearly, Travis thought of her as a princess and not as a future queen. "I'm sure you will someday too. With your genes, you'll probably be running this place when you're done school."
Travis laughed at the thought.
"No thanks, I'd rather continue my studies over teaching. Have you seen how much stress Master Maricourt is under just getting ready for the year? I'll pass."
"Elowen! Elowen, I need to talk to you! Dad and the queen had a secret meeting that I need to tell you about!"
Remy flagged down her sister frantically, casting a spell for privacy between the two of them as she ran. Elowen curiously stepped into the resulting magic circle, baffled at her sister's urgency.
"Why were you listening to Dad's meeting with the queen?" she asked even though she knew the answer. Remy had to know everything, even if it was a private matter between her father and the monarch of her country. "Wait, is this a curse or something? Am I going to get in trouble for knowing this information?"
Remy waved away her sister's concerns and leaned closer to whisper her message. Elowen almost pulled away out of self-preservation, but then decided that if Remy was going to recklessly put herself in potential danger, Elowen should know what to tell Remy's father when it inevitably blew up in her face.
"There's going to be a student from wherever they sent Theo," Remy whispered, despite the privacy spell she'd cast. "The queen is worried that he's somehow broken like Theo was or some kind of spy. You have to help me watch him when he comes. It's our duty to the queen."
"Wouldn't our duty to the queen be to stay out of her conversations?" Elowen asked warily. "She knows better than we do when it comes to this situation. I'm sure she has a plan."
"But we could stop another attack!" Remy hissed.
"You don't know if this student is going to be dangerous!" Elowen insisted. "How would he have anything to do with what happened in Twikkii Island? He's coming to study here."
"Fine. If you're not going to help me, just keep an eye on him. I'll do the rest."
"Adam! I'm surprised you're not hounding me about Theo. He's lived down the hall from me all summer, and he says that you've barely been talking to him. He does have a cell phone, you know. His dads call him every day since my mom basically kidnapped him."
Victoriana smiled at Adam, only earning a weak smile in return.
"He's sworn an oath to Pleasantview by studying here. Your mother has the right to keep him for extended personal studies. I...I just don't want to interrupt him. He's got to be pretty busy. Plus, I'll see him at school in a while anyway. I've been busy in Crystal Cove learning how to double the size of the crystals I grow. I'll have a new one to give him by the time school starts."
"I guess. Well, text him that," Victoriana replied, looking at Adam strangely. "Not everything has to be a surprise, you know. Don't tell him I told you this, but he's been worried about you. You don't seem...excited to see him again, which has to be impossible. You two are crazy about each other. You broke into his dreams to talk to him again."
Adam smiled another weary smile that didn't seem genuine, raising the princess' suspicions.
"A lot has happened since we've seen each other really," he said cautiously. "He's been gone for so long and I've changed so much since then. I'm sure he has too, especially with all that he's learned. It's okay when we talk on the phone or text, but seeing him again in person? Holding hands again and kissing and...what if we've changed? He says that he's fixed, but what if something happens again? And my parents won't let us be roommates again, obviously, but what if he's on a different floor entirely and we never see each other outside of class? It's all just too much to think about."
Victoriana hugged her friend fiercely, hoping to dislodge his many fears about his relationship. Theo had been right, Adam was spiralling with anxiety about the future when he didn't have to face the future alone.
"Hey. Just talk to Theo, and you'll be fine," Victoriana promised, releasing him from her grip. "You can't be in a relationship by yourself. It's weird for Theo too, you know. Talk to him."
Adam nodded, but his expression was still conflicted.
"Yeah, thanks, Your Highness. I'll do that."

BOLD the FACTS
Thanks to @imperial-topaz2003 & @thelealinhypehouse for the tags!
Doing this for Issie (Isadola) because No I haven't forgotten about her after.... a certain recent game release lol.
PERSONAL
Isadola's life has been a complicated one since the day she was born. Originally born to an exiled & former Sith Lord and a former/rouge Imperial Cipher Agent. Isadola only knew and was raised by her mother before her father (the rouge Cipher Agent) eventually learned of her existence and attempted to kill both her & her mother. Shortly after her mother's death she was found and taken in by the Jedi Order, where she went on to earn the title of Barsen'thor. Later leaving the Jedi Order to go on to help form and lead the Alliance as Commander. Slowly finding the happy life & family that was taken from her.
Financial: wealthy*/ moderate/ poor / in poverty
Born & raised poor during the first few years of her life before being taken in by the Jedi Order. *Later amassing significant wealth throughout her journeys.
Medical: fit / moderate/ sickly / disabled / disadvantaged/ non-applicable
A natural acrobat, and very fast. She may not be the strongest, but very few are able to catch her, let alone pin her down in or out of combat.
Class or Caste: upper/ middle/ working / unsure / other
Regardless of it's in her early life or currently, Isadola doesn't really care for her status be labeled as such, given how it's needlessly complicated things all her life.
Education: qualified / unqualified / studying / other
Not really tied to any specific discipline, but still got a very significant education from her time with the Jedi where she has a very sharp mind you'd want in any intelligent conversation. Even if it's a topic out of her depth, Issie is a very quick learner.
Criminal Record: yes, for major crimes / yes, for minor crimes / no / has committed crimes, but not caught yet / yes, but charges were dismissed
Issie, is not a saint. There are some lines she will not cross, but for what crimes she has committed both during her time as a Jedi and after leaving the order, She has yet to be caught. She has even helped found her own Cartel that low-key starting to rival the Hutts. For her and her family's own safety she hasn't admitted to being one of Eridium Cartel's Founders that the Hutt Cartel has placed a significant bounty on. Tho the Alliance spy network has their hands constantly full keeping that fact under wraps.
FAMILY
In the Beginning it was very complicated, Born to a loving Mother that died protecting her against a Father that wants her dead for simply existing outside of his sphere of control. To later having the loving family life that was taken from her decades ago.
Children: had a child or children* / has no children / wants children
Post-Darth Nul plot, Isadola has the first of her 3 biological daughters with her wife Lana. Not long after having their first daughter, Kelsa, They go on to adopt an orphaned stowaway force-sensitive Chiss girl, Orla, that showed up on Odessen one day after she quickly stole their hearts.
Relationship with Family: close with sibling(s) / not close with sibling(s)*/ has no siblings / sibling(s) is deceased
Issie is the only child of her mother, Tilera, and her father, Donovan. *Though she does have some half-siblings through her father, like her relationship with him, she is not close to them, by any means.
Affiliation: orphaned / abandoned / adopted / disowned* / raised by birth parent(s) / not applicable
Raised by her Mother for 5-ish years before being orphaned, Disowned by her Father almost since her birth (If he knew about her sooner), Donovan would sooner have her killed then having a progeny outside his sphere of control.
TRAITS & TENDENCIES
♦ extroverted/ introverted /in-between*
Issie is mostly a shy girl, unless you know her then those walls she's built up crumble so fast. Or she's just drunk/high off her ass.
♦ disorganized /organized / in-between
If things are disorganized, something is wrong with Issie and you should be concerned.
♦ close-minded / open-minded / in-between
99% of the time Issie tries to be open-minded, unless it's something that's against her personal moral code then not so much, though she tries to always keep an open mind.
♦ calm / anxious / in-between / highly contextual
Isadola under the calm exterior she's built up, is just a mess of emotions. Issie is one bad day away from losing the stoic exterior she's built up over the years.
♦ disagreeable / agreeable / in-between
Very situational, With Issie you can never really know unless you drop her in specific situations.
♦ cautious / reckless / in-between / highly contextual
Again, very situational. When it's a moment that requires thought or is very delicate she is very cautious. In combat, Issie can be VERY reckless, just ask Lana.
♦ patient / impatient / in-between
Very much depends on her mood on how patient Isadola can be.
♦ outspoken / reserved / in-between / highly contextual
Depends on the situation, But Isadola is very much both. Can be very outspoken most times, but she also knows when to hold her tongue.
♦ leader / follower / in-between
A natural leader but hates the labels that comes with it, but also able to take orders from those she respects.
♦ empathetic / vicious bastard / in-between
Issie is very much both, just depends on the situation on which side you'll see. Issie is very empathetic (Even has the Force Empathy ability), but if you push her too far that side of her can switch off a little too quickly for comfort.
♦ optimistic / pessimistic / in-between
Despite her tragic beginnings, and her life up to recent events Isadola always tries to look on the bright side of things. If she doesn't she might fall down a dark hole she might never recover from.
♦ traditional / modern / in-between
Isadola & Tradition are 2 things that don't mix. Like full stop.
♦ hard-working / lazy / in-between
Issie needs to be reminded a lot it's okay for her to take a break a lot of times and that galaxy won't fall apart if she doesn't keep working. Though she is 100% a hypocrite when she tries to remind Lana of the same.
♦ cultured / uncultured / in-between / unknown
Issie is just Issie. She is a lot of things.
♦ loyal / disloyal / in-between / unknown
Loyal, to a fault. She will die for those closest to her against anything.
♦ faithful / unfaithful / in-between / unknown
Sure, her mind wanders sometimes, but at the end of the day, once she's committed to someone she's theirs till one or both of them drops dead.
BELIEFS
Raised by the Jedi sure, But she doesn't have blind faith in the Force.
Faith: monotheist / polytheist /atheist/ agnostic?*
*Sure Issie has seen all that the Force is capable of but she doesn't believe it is the end all be all of everything.
Belief in Ghosts or Spirits: yes / no / don’t know / don’t care / in a manner of speaking
Issie has seen a few, even has a connection with the dead, but hasn't had enough experience to form any strong opinions on them. (At least in her main Jedi path, Her Sith Inquisitor AU on the other hand...)
Belief in an Afterlife: yes / no / don’t know / don’t care / in a manner of speaking
"There is no Death, There is only the Force" Something that has been drilled into her by the Jedi since she was young, She doesn't quite believe in the words, even if repeating the words has given her some comfort from time to time.
Belief in Reincarnation: yes / no / don’t know / don’t care / in a manner of speaking
She'd like to believe so, in her mind, Life is wasteful just to end. She'd like to believe there's more to do, more to learn after one life is done.
Belief in Aliens: yes / no / don’t know / don’t care
I mean, even though Isadola sees herself as Human, She is constantly reminded she's not so... it'd be weird if she didn't believe.
Religious: orthodox / liberal / in between / not religious
Isadola's life has been too complicated to be even remotely religious. Plus she has seen first hand how far such devotion can go. So not her style.
Philosophical: yes / no / highly contextual
Issie is a Philosophical nerd deep down. She has to catch herself sometimes for not sounding too philosophical.
SEXUALITY & ROMANCE
Sexuality: heterosexual / homosexual/ bisexual / asexual / pansexual
Issie is a straight as a boomerang. Girl has like few brain cells around most women.
Sex: sex-repulsed / sex neutral / sex favorable/ naive and clueless
Girl has problems keeping her hands to herself around her wife. Much to Lana's ire sometime when she's working.
Romance: romance repulsed / romance neutral / romance favorable / naive and clueless / romance suspicious
Issie is a hopeless romantic deep down.
Sexually: adventurous / experienced / naive / inexperienced / curious
Isadola has had a number of encounters over the years before she met her wife.
Potential Sexual Partners: male/ female / agender / other / none / all
Isadola is a not so innocent Lesbean.
Potential Romantic Partners: male / female / agender / other / none / all
See Above.
ABILITIES
Smart, Quick witted, and combat talented, just like her Mama.
Combat Skills: excellent/ good / moderate / poor/ none
Very talented with dual sabers, just like her Mother.
Literacy Skills: excellent/ good / moderate / poor / none
She found alot of comfort in books and writings when she was younger before she found some real friends.
Artistic Skills: excellent* / good / moderate/ poor / none
Isadola is an excellent singer if you can get her to do so. She's a pretty good Artifice crafter though when she wants to kill sometime.
Technical Skills: excellent/ good / moderate / poor / none
Issie is pretty good at most technical skills when she needs to be, but if something needs fixing or Slicing, she knows to leave the task to one of her more capable friends.
HABITS
Issie won't admit it but she is very much a closeted party animal. She has alot of steam to blow off from her life so far.
Drinking Alcohol: never/ special occasions / rarely / sometimes / frequently / alcoholic/ former borderline alcoholic turned sober
Her go to way to turn off her brain after a stressful day.
Smoking: tried it / trying to quit / quit / never / rarely / sometimes / frequently / chain-smoker
Not her go to, but won't shy away from it if offered to her.
Recreational Drugs: tried some / never /special occasions / sometimes/ frequently / addict Former addict
Eridium Cartel party nights are lit. Issie only indulges if the party is really REALLY wild. Which is most times whenever her Eridium fam throws a party.
Medicinal Drugs: never / no longer needs medication / some medication needed / frequently / to excess
Issie is usually pretty healthy. Only rarely after a taking some serious injuries does she need to take some, if any.
Unhealthy Food: never / special occasions / rarely / sometimes / frequently / binge eater
Again, Issie is usually pretty healthy, and eats like it too. It's a point of pride for her to be able to maintain her fast, acrobatic abilities.
Splurge Spending: never / sometimes / frequently / shopaholic
Lana manages the credits for a reason, is all I'll say. Issie like shiny things a bit too much.
Gambling: never / rarely / sometimes / frequently / compulsive gamble
When the nightlife event starts, it would be a rare moment not to see Issie in the casino. She hangs around her smuggler buddy, Taskar, a bit too much where his luck has rubbed off on her.
No pressure tags for @girlstandstill @magicallulu7 @serenofroses

When You Do Not Matter: The Long-Lasting Aftermath of Abuse
Content warning: emotional abuse, devaluing
The ringette association I was a part of as a child held an annual banquet at the end of every season in April, and every year, I looked forward to being able to dress up all formal with my teammates.
What I did not look forward to, however, was the times when the banquet was taking place on the weekends I was supposed to be with my father. He would refuse to bring me to and from it, not even just to drive me there and then come back later to pick me up. Other times, he would have already planned something else and wouldn't be willing to change plans even a little bit. I would then have to make arrangements with a friend to stay over at their house for the night and have their parents drive me to and from the banquet.
This was not an isolated occurrence though.
My father often expressed how he did not want to drive me to my ringette games. Somethings my mum would have to come pick me up from his house to bring me, other times he would reluctantly bring me himself. His reasoning? That bringing me to and from my games was "time away from the family, which is more important." He wouldn't force the whole family to come just to watch me play, and when while my games were going on, it wasn't really time spent together because he couldn't be on the ice with me. For the games that were sometimes hours away by car, that was hours away from the rest of the family being spend on just getting me to and from the arenas.
Being the complete hypocrite he is, he dragged the entire family to a city multiple hours away for a weekend to watch him and my brother do a triathlon. You know, the ones where people race in swimming, running, and biking. Where the rest of the family "couldn't be with them" while they were doing all that, and the only time we would actually see them was in their transition between parts.
Eventually, while I was able to physically leave that environment, I was psychologically trapped, having been around my biological father since I was born.
I graduated from postsecondary school with a diploma in audio production and engineering. The ceremony was scheduled on the same weekend my family planned to have an early Easter celebration. Being a big life milestone I wanted to attend, I contemplated on what to do as the family event had been planned months in advance as my family is large and often needs to do multiple celebrations for holidays.
I could tell my family about it and have them bail on the Easter party to come to my graduation. But of course, that would be selfish of me. They had this party with extended family planned already. It would be rude to suddenly cancel just for me.
I could let my family have their Easter party and just attend my graduation ceremony on my own. That would feel too sad and lonely though, with no meaningful people in my life with me to take photos and celebrate my big achievement.
Later, it came out that my parents would have cancelled on the Easter party that happens every year to go to my graduation that will only ever happen once.
It's been nearly a decade since I stopped living with my father part time and the effects of being told every aspect of me doesn't matter have still persisted this long. No one talks about it and that is so depressing.

I’m watching Crocodile 2000 and it’s your basic B movie with college students as fodder for the monster.
I haven’t watched it since it first came out when I was a kid, BUT LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!
It has the perfect prequel potential!
Spoilers for background:
So in 1904* a man named Harlan Clemens created a hotel called The Nile Hotel and imported a massive (at least 30ft or 9m long) Nile crocodile called Flat Dog and made her the main attraction.
[image of the Nile Hotel at night]
Now supposedly this crocodile was descended from the crocodiles that were rode into battle by the Pharaohs (yeah, right, sure there bud).
[image of a mural depicting a man riding a giant Nile crocodile. Mural says: “Flat Dog - The Eighth Wonder of the World - At the Nile Hotel -Nightly]
So Harlan created a shrine dedicated to her and pretty much built a cult around her claiming that she was an avatar for the ancient Egyptian god Sobek**.
Harlan thought that he could harness Sobek’s powers/gain favor by worshipping Flat Dog.
Now, during this time, Flat Dog was able to lay eggs without a mate and this was considered a miracle/divine intervention. ^^
Harlan then took the eggs and displayed them in the hotel lobby, however his 8yo son get mad at Harlan one day and took a croquet mallet to the display case and smashed all of the miracle eggs.
Local legend says that after this, the town learned that Harlan was basically creating a cult, and ran him out of town and in the confusion, Flat Dog escaped into the local estuary.
But the grandson of Harlan said that Flat Dog killed and ate Harlan for the disrespectful act and later killed Harlan’s son once he became an adult and tried to hunt down Flat Dog in vengeance for killing his father.
[image of Flat Dog exiting a convenience store by breaking down a wall.]
That’s the basic back story to this film and I LOVE IT! Imagine it as its own stand alone movie (just get rid of the historical inaccuracies) set in the early 1900s just before the King Tut craze!
Just some dude getting a giant croc and doing some lines, turning to his sone and saying “you know what, that’s an avatar.”
I like it and give it a thumbs up.
[image of skeleton hand reaching through the grave and giving a thumbs up]
Author notes:
*Movie says that what happened to Harlan occurred 96 years ago and the movie is set to 2000 so 2000 - 96 = 1904).
**Wikipedia says Sobek is a dude, but the film keeps calling him a her so whatever ghoulie; big croc with bad temper is the important message here, ghoul.
^^I’ve tried to find if Nile crocs are capable of parthenogenesis like Komodo dragons or if they can perform long-term-sperm-storage. I found no research that confirms if either biological function occurs in female Nile crocs.
I did learn though that female Nile crocs used to form communal nests in the wild, but it hasn’t been observed since 1952 in Uganda’s Ntoroko peninsula.
Apparently human disturbance contributed to isolated nesting (at least from what I understood).
My phone and tumblr and having a disagreement right now, so I can’t add links of my half way done research into this post (I’m not Roanoke Games) - so here’s a screen shot of the links I used:

Propaganda for DGP Staff Family
"Okay so. In this series you can be selected to take part in a battle royale, and if you win you can make a wish and the world will be reshaped to make that wish come true. Ace has been taking part to this games for a long time and since joining has always won. And this time (the third "world" we see in the series) his wish was for part of the game's staff (aka Girori, the Game Master, and Tsumuri, the Navigator) to be his family. No one is happy about this. Ace clearly has ulterior motives for his wish, Girori is well aware of it and begrudgingly plays along in his role of father, and Tsumuri just hates it and will let Ace know at any chance (this is early in the series, they end up developing a nice sibling bond as the series progresses). They all passive agressively play family because the new world says so, and Ace gets to sit there smugly watching them suffer. He particularly likes playing the annoying brother to Tsumuri. Found Family? No, Forced Family. Worst family meals ever lol."
"Ace wished for the staff or the death game he just won for the fourth time in a town to be his family and now they are! Except his next wish is to be Staff himself! Oh, wait. Now his new “father”, Giroli, wants him dead, and his “older sister” wants him out too. She gets over it eventually tho she’s fine now even if she’s not impressed with his commitment to the bit wrt calling her “Nee-San”. Giroli meanwhile literally dies bc he tries to make the other death game participants (who are Ace’s friends) hunt Ace for sport, which is against the rules. What makes all of this funnier is Ace did all this to find his real mom, Mitsume, and her powers were injected into Tsumuri, making her actually his “biological” YOUNGER sister! Win is here bc he is a member of staff and once jokingly refers to Ace as “brother” in the gang sense bc he is a fucking menace."

6B/7A theory/hope/wish for the BEST possible solution for this whole sperm donor story line that still gives us Buddie.
I’ve touched on this in a previous post, but I think that something is going to happen to Cameron when she is giving birth and she is going to die, and Connor (who is freaking out already about being a parent), will decide he can’t parent alone. Therefore, he is going to safe haven baby style drop off his son (Buck’s biological son) at the 118 (probably with Ravi) with a note and paperwork that gives Buck full parental rights over the baby.
Now, to add to that. I also am under the impression that Buck’s loft is going to be crushed in an earthquake during 6x18. With Kristen saying the couch is in danger (which I think Eddie will also be in danger during the finale, physical couch can be too), I see an earthquake destroying the loft. Buck is essentially homeless at this point, although Eddie tells him that he can stay with him while he is trying to find another place.
However, when Buck gets the baby, he goes over to Eddie’s because he’d freaking out (and can’t go to the loft). Sitting on the couch, holding the baby, he’s talking to Eddie about how he is unprepared to be a father. Eddie kneels in front of him, places a hand on his knee and assures him that he is going to be a great father because he already is one, to Chris. He also tells Buck that he doesn’t have to do this alone, and that Buck can move in with him, and they can raise the baby together (like they have already been raising Chris together). Buck tries to insist that he doesn’t need to do that, but Eddie tells him something along the lines of, “Buck, remember when you said I could have your back? This is me doing that.”
So 6B ends with Eddie and Chris making dinner while Buck is rocking the baby on the couch, Buck looking at them with the fondest look on his place, telling the baby that he thinks he finally found his couch. So no confirmed Buddie yet, but we know it's coming.
Flash forward while I throw some 7A speculation in there for you. 7A Buddie opens with the baby screaming, Buck and Eddie are in bed together, groaning about whose turn it is to get the baby. It’s been months of raising the baby and dealing with new parenting. This kid of parenting being new to both of them since Eddie missed most of Chris’s early days due to the army. Chris, from the other rooms yells back “I don’t care who’s turn it is, just one of you get him so I can sleep!” Eddie eventually gets up to get the baby. At the firehouse, both Buck and Eddie come in exhausted, and the team remarks on how the baby is still not sleeping through the night. Remarks about HenRen and Madney, and Bathena about them remembering when their kids were young and not doing that, some other line about them being young and newly married with this too (Bathena (with their first marriages), and maybe HenRen).
Also in this episode, you have scenes where Eddie and Buck are constantly being pulled around the house to help with the new baby, Chris is getting annoyed each time because it happens while Buck is helping him with science project, or Eddie is playing a game with him while Buck is cooking dinner, etc. Either way, Chris is growing resentful at the baby and making comments about it throughout the episode. At first Buddie thinks that it’s just Chris being a teenager, but at some point in the episode, Chris snaps completely telling him how he hates the new baby because Buck and Eddie don’t have time for him anymore. “Buck moving in was supposed to be the greatest news ever. But all It is *baby name* this and *baby name* that! You’re both so focused on the baby that neither of you have time for me anymore!” Then we get Buddifer family chat where Buck and Eddie talk to Chris about the new baby and apologize for letting the stress of the new baby get to them, and how they never meant to make Chris feel like they don’t have time for him, or possibly are replacing him.
Also, with some season 7A speculation about Buddie. If it follows this story line, we also have the team significantly making comments about how Buddie is living together, raising two kids together, but aren’t married. “You’re living together, sharing a bed, parenting not one but two kids together, and you’re not in a relationship? I mean come on; you’re married in every way except legally!” This becomes a huge set of comments throughout 7A and by the midseason finale I think we get Buddie actually talking about it and then we get the love confession, and possibly a shotgun courthouse wedding that we probably only know about because Buddie waltzes in to the kitchen at the firehouse and drops off HR paperwork in Bobby’s lap before getting their own breakfast off the island. Then of course, we have a bet reveal where Hen wins, because logically who else is gonna win it? If there is no wedding, then at least we get happy Buddie for 7B.
There. Done.
I’m thinking about making a fic of this because while I love this and want this, I am not delusional and know this will likely never happen. Anyone interested if I can actually get the words from my brain to the word document?
#buddie#911 fox#911 6b speculation#911 7a speculation#is this likely to happen? probably not. am i going to be able to think about anything else until the finale? probably not.#buddifer#buddie fic idea#the sperm donor arc hurts me so much that this is the only way that I can picture it not competely sucking at the end

1 and 4 for the couple questions! Really curious about these! 👀
If they have been asked, choose any other questions you might like.♥️♥️
Oooh, I love these ones! 💙 You've unlocked The Rambling, haha. It's gonna be a long one:
1. What do they think of each other’s family? And how does the family feel?
Goro doesn't really have to worry too much about assimilating into a new family because most of Valerie's biological family is either dead or estranged by the time they meet. 😅 She's an only child, her father died in 2058, and her mother died in 2063. Valerie does have some aunts, uncles, and cousins on her mother's side, but they live on the east coast of NUSA, and she hasn't seen them since she was about 11.
The only two blood relatives she has in Night City are her uncle, Ed, who is her father's oldest brother, and his adult daughter, who I'm still working on and doesn't have an official name yet. 😅 Ed is kind of a piece of shit--He runs with the 6th Street, but he's basically a low-level goon who deals drugs to kids. The last time he saw Valerie was around 2075 when he got wind that she was doing very well for herself and tried to get money from her.
I have been thinking about a way for Valerie and Goro to meet him for some reason during the in-game timeline, but I don't have anything solid at the moment. Goro and Ed would not get along at all, but Valerie isn't fond of him either, so no love lost there. (Nameless cousin is still a total mystery to me--Currently leaning towards a journalist, but I have no idea.)
And of course there's Mama Welles. Valerie's relationship with Mama Welles was always just a little tense--Valerie was just not used to having a mother figure that involved in her life and personal business, and even though Mama Welles always meant well, it could be a little smothering to Valerie. But they do stay in touch even after Jackie dies, and Valerie does bring Goro over for at least one good homecooked meal when they're in Night City.
Mama Welles is a little wary of Goro's allegiances at first, but Goro puts on the gentlemanly charm and wins her over pretty quickly. She sees he cares very deeply for Valerie, and she's glad her pseudo-surrogate daughter has someone in her life that makes her happy.
As for Valerie with Goro's family... I'm holding off on anything solid about Goro's family until Phantom Liberty. If CDPR gives us nothing here, I'll headcanon Goro a whole ass family tree, but I'll give Sir Weber a little more time to share his official backstory before I make up my own. 😅
However! @lizzy--wizzy gave me an absolutely adorable idea about Valerie meeting Goro's father for the first time, and I would love to make something like this a part of their canon: Basically, Goro comes back to Japan after several years living in NUSA with this gorgeous, tall, bright blue-haired woman at his side, and his father looks up at her and then at Goro and is like "You just disappeared to another country for 10 years and then you come back home married to a supermodel???? Explain."
4. How do they compare to each other’s exes? Are they the same “type” or an upgrade/something different?
Man, I'm overflowing with thoughts on this one--I don't even know where to start, haha.
I guess I'll start with their romantic/sexual pasts for some context:
Valerie slept around a lot in her early-to-mid 20s, and she was not particularly discerning about who she shared a bed with during that time. It was very much a maladaptive coping mechanism from dealing with feeling abandoned and isolated after losing her parents, losing her job, losing her status, losing her (admittedly shitty and fair-weather) friends as a result of losing her status--Basically after losing any sense of direction in her life. She was very lonely but also didn't want to really let anyone in emotionally. The majority were just one-night stands with anyone she thought was hot and into her.
She didn't even really consider pursuing a long-term relationship until she was in her late 20s/early 30s, but by then she was also working for Arasaka which demanded a lot of her time. Most of those relationships were with other corpos who understood the grind and tended to all be emotionally unavailable one way or another, and they usually only lasted a few months, tops. Valerie did often gravitate towards people who could be a little prickly on the outside--She loves the little victory of getting a smile out of a sarcastic grump.
Then when Valerie decided to go sober, dating became even harder since going out for drinks or doing ~*luxury drugs*~ were such a huge part of the corporate dating scene. She was almost completely celibate for about two years.
Valerie and Viktor did briefly have a thing after she was fired from Arasaka, but between his own intimacy issues and her kind of using him for a sense of comfort after her life got thrown upside down again, that one also didn't last more than a few months.
As for Goro: much like with his family, I'm holding off a little long until I commit to anything concrete for Goro's romantic past, but I've indulged here a little more:
I absolutely love the idea of Goro being a wild playboy during his youth, so I think he probably had his fair share of indiscriminate flings as well until he found that 'Saka discipline. I could see him also having, like, one fairly serious relationship when he was young but starting to settle down a bit, but it fell through for whatever reason: Goro had to commit fully to Arasaka, that partner got married off to someone else, etc. Pick your tragedy.
I don't think he was ever married, though, and I think once he became Saburo's bodyguard, Goro didn't even entertain the idea of having a long-term romantic relationship. I think it would have been highly discouraged if not outright banned.
I do think he would occasionally enjoy the company of others, though, with the explicit understanding that it couldn't be more than sex (maybe dinner if he really liked them). Probably with other high-level Arasaka employees who were in a similar position but still craved physical companionship from time to time. I think he'd be drawn to people who were at least like him on the outside--Reserved with refined taste and a clear understanding of their purpose in the organization--But deep down he craves connection with someone more spirited who could challenge him.
So, to finally answer the actual question, lmao: How do they compare to each other's exes?
In both cases they're mostly something different, but that's also mostly because they never really let themselves have relationships with someone who they could deeply connect with. They are each other's type--They just tried to deny it to themselves for most of their lives.
(Goro is more oblivious and then surprised by his attraction to Valerie than vice versa, though. 😅 Valerie is like "Of course I fall in love with the most unattainable man in the world while I'm actually dying. This is exactly why I don't want to have any feelings." And Goro is more like "It is not love. I just trust her with my entire life, and often my stomach feels weird when she smiles at me, but it is just something I ate in this shithole of a city. Probably.")

Howling Love - Chapter 1
*Warning Adult Content*
Amille Laurent
I'd said this before, I should've know more, now I was being hugged and patted on the back by another obnoxiously large wolf who could break me easily, he had introduced himself as Kyra, the shrieking lady was his mate Bonnie, she was my aunt, whilst he was what we all assumed my uncle, aunt Bonnie was the one with the biological link to dad, since they were siblings but I had no idea till now that my father actually had family here.
"Easy on the pats Kyra," Dad chides as he pulls me away from the not so gentle giant, his olive skin was tanned a bit, with piercing obsidian eyes that really caused one to question if they ever wanted to cross this man.
"He's not fragile Calvin let him see his nephew, you never told us he's so grown up, look at you so beautiful, argh... those curls are to die for," she gushed over me and I just smiled as she hugged and shook me in excitement.
"Bonnie calm down, let him breathe," Dad also intervened and I was so grateful as he pulled me to his side protectively.
"Sorry, it's just you never actually let us see your son, only pictures when he was a kid, then you stopped, which I am angry at you for but just seeing you here, finally... I'm so happy," she expressed and was now crying in dad's arms, I wondered what kind of emotional trip she was on, she had been very excited just now, the switch flipped she's bawling her eyes out.
"She's very emotional, a very very emotional person, she was worse when she was pregnant," Kyra explained with a chuckle and I found myself understanding what he meant, I didn't reply which was why Kyra frowned I was sure.
"You good?" my father asked his sister who nodded with a smile.
"Sorry, I guess I just had it all pent up," she apologized and I understood that even more, I tended to bottle things up when I was in my early teens, until I started talking to my father about it and he helped me through it, bottling things up tended to have a very bad outcome for everyone and yourself involved, I learned the hard way.
[Dad, I'm cold, I don't mind the reunion, can we just do it inside.] I suggested and he nodded.
"Yeah you're right it's getting chilly," he agreed but not speaking and signing had my aunt and uncle perplexed.
"Before you ask, he's capable of everything, he just can't voice out anything," Dad immediately explained.
"Oh, so that's why you..." Kyra began but before he finished I nodded, I knew he was referring to the statement he made I didn't reply.
"Well that's alright, I guess we have to learn sign language to understand you, something new, great," Aunt Bonnie excitedly exclaimed and I chuckled, she really was her own kind.
"Sorry the house is still covered in boxes, someone didn't want to leave anything behind, if he could've boxed the windows, he would've," Dad asserted and I narrowed my eyes on him, quickly went to find my tablet, text to speech came in handy with more people around.
[I didn't want to leave anything behind, you left a quarter of your stuff, then realized one of the boxes you left was important now the movers charged you for it.] I shot back and my aunt along with uncle both laughed.
"Yeah at least I didn't pack a whole box of stuffed animals," he teased and I grabbed Bunny from his clutches.
[Leave my bunny alone.] I glared at him whilst our guests laughed.
"Goddess you two really are father and son, only you would have a sassy kid," Bonnie laughed as she and dad went into the kitchen probably to start on dinner.
[Want to see the game room or my book collection?] I asked my uncle killing the awkward tension.
"Let's see the gamer consoles and I'll beat you at any of the games," he challenged and I grinned.
[You're on.] I replied with my tablet leading the way to the game room.
"Hmm, your dad outdid himself with this game room," he complimented and I smiled nodding, the best thanks I could give.
Soon enough we were playing table tennis on the large two way screen.
"Hah. I won." he cheered as the first round finished, we started again and the next round I won and cheered with a dance of my own, virtual table tennis got boring as we were tied six six, so we decided to race and I eventually won, the reason why dad wont let me drive his car, I always end up speeding.
"You're not bad kid," Uncle Kyra compliments as aunt and my dad both walked into the game room.
"Not even a day here and I've already lost you to our nephew," she sighed dramatically.
"It's not like that babe, well almost not like it, he likes games, pretty good gamer too, I'm sure he loves gardening too meaning we have more in common, if he cooks as great as you, maybe you'll have something to bond over with too," Kyra exclaimed as aunt Bonnie looked to me with hopeful eyes.
"Come, dinner is ready and yeah, he can cook better than me." Dad stated in between a chuckle making my aunt squeal.
"Oh boy," Dad sighed as we all sat at the large dining room table.
"This looks delicious," Kyra commented after Dad said grace.
[It's southern style cuisine, it's supposed to look and taste delicious.] I answered earning chuckles from everyone.
"I'm actually sorry your cousins couldn't come Amille, they've had pack training all week long then catching up with school, it's been crazy," Bonnie stated apologetically and I waved it off.
"Can you fight Amille?" Kyra asked and I nodded with a smile.
I was Alpha Lincoln's special student meaning he just trained me harder than everyone else, one time I broke both my legs, it took a lot of healing serum to have them heal normally, after they healed, he broke my arms again in about four months.
I healed and he drilled me even harder, in the end, it toughened me up, it's why I wasn't easily terrified by wolves as a human, I was trained to kill with much more precision and skill, I'd always be grateful to Alpha Lincoln for that.
"So maybe one day you'll join us," he stated but dad made a growling sound, he was overprotective.
"He is not going to be fighting anyone, he'll be studying, then go to varsity become an IT major or what was that other one?" he asked.
[Architecture.] I signed.
"Yes, architecture and graduate, to live his best life," he corrected and I just ate.
"Oh well, who knows what the future may hold, maybe you'll join us too," Kyra winked at my dad who rolled his eyes diffused of his outburst.
The dinner went well as aunt Bonnie and my uncle helped me understand a lot more about the pack, the school, the city.
I had an inkling that my uncle wasn't just an ordinary wolf, he was the Beta of the pack, it made sense now why we were easily accepted.
Anyway after dinner as dad spoke with my aunt I was bonding with my uncle.
"Don't worry so much about school tomorrow, I'll have your cousins look out for you, if you have any trouble just text me or find me I'll sort it out, I probably need to start learning your language huh?" he stated and I shrugged.
[Not really, I always have my tablet and a spare phone for it with me.] I replied and he frowned.
"I still want to either way," he chuckled and I smiled, the giant of a wolf wasn't so bad.
As the night went on I had to say good night to my uncle and aunt.
"I'll have you over for a sleepover soon sweetheart, goodnight," she promised as I hugged her then hugged my uncle, he was much more gentle this time.
"Hey bud, ready for bed... how did you even get all your stuffed animals up here?" he asked in surprise and I scoffed.
"Amille magic huh?" he teased and I nodded.
"I know you probably have a lot of questions, why didn't I tell you about your family sooner, why didn't you grow up here... I wish it was that simple, maybe it is but I don't have the courage for the whole story, though I'll summarize it, the Alpha of the pack is an old lover, when we were eighteen and he got his mate, I was devastated, I didn't want to be here, reminded of what I had that wasn't mine, so I left, found myself in the Ascender pack, healed and had you, after all these years Bonnie made me realize I needed to come back home, accept what happened and try move on with my life, I don't know if my decision was the right one or not but it's been made, I hope you forgive me for not telling you and just hauling us over here," he explained and all I wanted was to hug my strong dad.
He was brave for trying to move on, not a lot of people tried, they just kept on hating and hurting until it destroyed them.
[I forgive you dad and maybe moving here wasn't so bad, I have the varsity of my dreams closer now and you have your dream job, we both have family closer now, we may not know what tomorrow is like but today, we're happy and safe, love you dad.] I responded as he sniffled and held me in his arms.
"Love you too kiddo, you're so understanding," he chuckled letting me go from his embrace.
"Now off to bed, you and I can't both be late for our first day."
He soothed placing a kiss on my forehead.
[Night dad.]

Character Cast: Mortals (male-ish)
(All characters operate within the multi-verse and multi-ship ideology.)
This is all the mortal male(ish) characters that Tumblr will let me put on one post. There is a fair abundance more, if you want to write with me but don't want to write opposite any of these people, feel free to look at my other casts or dm me to hear about the ones who haven't made it to a list yet.
Alex Finnegan: reformed catholic turned criminal. Reformed criminal turned national collegiate athlete. Reformed athlete went full circle to prodigal musician (sans religion). Alex learned soccer in the juvie system after being incarcerated for solicitation and drug possession, which they turned to after coming out of the closet and was consequently thrown out of home as a teenager. He was studying music at college on a soccer scholarship before taking the opportunity to join the national orchestra as the pianist (their one true love). They are finishing their degree in NYC. Alex is determined, ambitious, brave, awkward and anxious. Transmasc (they/he), bisexual, mid to late twenties, Bex Taylor-Klaus.
Casey Hamersley: prodigal football star, collegiate athlete, quarterback, often under the influence of alcohol, closeted gay man, religious background, studying a generic history degree. Casey feels like he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and doesn't know what will happen if he stops holding it all. he/him, closeted gay man, ear twenties, Matt Rife (subject to change post comedy special).
Darius Hill: with an abusive and angry man for a father, and a selfishly self-serving eldest brother, Darius was primarily raised by the middle son of the family who did his best to protect him. However, when he was nine, Darius and the middle brother, Cassius, were won in a poker game between their father and Cassius' girlfriends' do-good ex-con/criminal father. Kas and Klaudia, the girlfriend's parents, raised Darius as their own, but he did struggle to make friends and form meaningful relationships in the town he'd been born in, so when Kas and Klaudia's biological children moved out over the next five years, they moved Darius to Wisconsin where their family friends lived. Darius, once withdrawn and anxious, began to flourish in the snowy town, seeking out freedom and friendships, and despite being socially awkward and a little behind in his education, Darius was happy. Determined to keep that up, he studies veterinary medicine online and under the careful tutelage of his adopted mother who is a vet surgeon. Snowy small town aesthetics all around. He/him, gay, early twenties, Charlie Plummer.
Harper Bright: a pretty party person, with classically vampiric features and a pirate aesthetic. Harper volunteers at the youth queer centre in the middle of the city, basically doing peer support programs and tutoring in an environment safe for people aged 12-24. He's kind, patient, passionate, and wants to spend the rest of his life making a difference to the lives of those around him. He/him transman, bisexual, 21+, Jaco van de Hoven.
Josh Richards: raised in a white collar crime syndicate/cult, Josh was brainwashed into a violent soldier from a young age. While his little sister (Emma) was learning how to manipulate her way into people's lives and indoctrinate them into their expansive crime network (known as The Circus), Josh was learning how to make sure people kept secrets and protect those in the network who needed it. The cult brainwashing melted away six months before he turned eighteen when he walked in on their father assaulting Emma. Their father didn't walk away from the consequential exchange, and Josh was arrested for murder. Whilst in prison, Josh was able to negotiate an out for himself and Emma from the cult as long as he kept his mouth shut in protective custody in prison. When Josh got out of prison four years later he moved in with his unravelling sister and his only friend. Focusing on helping Emma, and after being raised in a cult, Josh hasn't learned who he is yet and is on a journey of self discovery, only recently discovering that he's gay and likes the sound of rain. He/him, gay, 23, Colton Haynes.

Keiran is one of their main mixologists who works in view of the customers who wow at his deadpan expression as he mixes the drinks in fun, flirty, and fabulous ways. Kieran is fiercely loyal and protective, perpetually exhausted, often horny, and misses when life was easy back in his youth--but he also knows deep down that it has never really been that easy. All Kieran wants is to provide for his daughter and build a community around himself, but he's struggling in all aspects. Transman he/him, bisexual, 21, Jeremy Allen White.

His brother was one of the founders of the park, but none of the founders are involved anymore and none of the current staff know anything about them, so Lewis keeps it to himself—especially since he lost the brother to suicide the year before he started working there. He thrives on passion and creativity, and has a bit of a frenetic energy to match it. A firm believer that gender and sexuality is fluid, and that fashion and style don't have an assigned gender, you can often find Quinn dressed in an array of colours or style aesthetics. they/he/she (doesn't give a fuck), bisexual, 20+, Miles Frank.
Ronan Duffy: an older brother and middle child, a best friend, a beloved nephew, an adored son, an intelligent mind, a curious heart, and a fan of film and tv.
