Summary: Hector is forced to answer the question that comes after you get your revenge: what now?

Hector had always prided himself on having a firm grasp on his emotions.

It was only natural, as Dracula’s general. One in his court could not show weakness, or they would be devoured alive, not always in a figurative sense. And it came easy to him, perhaps too much so, to steel his heart against any kind of fear, doubt and pity.

And he had been proven right. The one time he succumbed to his rage, he had been played like a puppet to resurrect his old Lord, and were it not for the most fortuitous of realizations, the vampire would have fed on his suffering to live on. Humiliation still burned in his gut at the memory: Hector learned his lesson, that was for sure.

Perhaps that was the reason he hadn’t felt much of anything, during his stay with Julia. The hatred that gave him the strength to carry on after Rosaly’s death all but died out, leaving cold embers in its stead.
