Crashing to desktop: the Dragon Age Origins experience. It's almost comforting to see that hasn't changed in the 15ish years since I last played.

Edit: I often say that mod authors deserve a special place in heaven but that is especially true for those who gave us patches to solve the memory leak and compatibility issues, and lessen CTDs. I love those people.
