beauty & horror are so perfectly contrasted in the terror. the sun dogs looking like halos watching over the men but in actuality are a sign of the harsh winter closing in on them. goodsir talking to crozier about how beautiful & wonderful the arctic is & then committing suicide shortly after. bridgens discovering peglar’s journal with a poem & a drawing of bridgens’ tattoo while peglar lays dead next to him. the crew finally able to take a break & enjoy themselves at the carnivale only for it to burn down from stanley’s suicide. james dying from scurvy just after finally being able to make a genuine connection with someone by sharing the story of his childhood with crozier. the arctic in general-how it’s a beautiful snow-covered land but is unbelievably deadly.
