so I read a post that was along the lines of “I like when a ship is not explicitly stated as canon / I enjoy the chase and seeing the little details I can pick out to explain why it’s so canon / it’s fun to gather evidence and read into implications” and ofc this is stated within the context of gay ships, and while I somewhat agree with this take, I wanted to make my Own Post about My Thoughts

I am somewhat tired of “reading into it” when it comes to queer ships. It can be frustrating sometimes. I see posts that are like “look how this scene is so homoerotic it’s so canon ahh” and it’s literally just a queerbait scene. I’m sorry but if they did not actually express romantic love verbally/physically, isn’t it pretty much queerbait? don’t get me wrong I love those moments and agree that those characters are so fucking gay it hurts but bro like I don’t know if that changes the fact that it’s queerbaiting :/

and I live for pining and yearning just as much as the next person but why do always we get to see straight couples yearn and pine and then actually move past that when they finally get together to do the coupley things and go through domestication and rough patches in their relationships and just experience life as a couple and for queers it’s like,, oh they’d die for each other but they don’t live in the same house and they’ve rarely said words of affection or touched but the Plot has been resolved so The End

and then so many of the shows that do explicitly canonize queer love with their main characters are cancelled or put on some indefinite hiatus for some reason or another so we STILL don’t get to see them through
