History About Manx Cat:

The Manx is an ancient cat breed originating from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. Initially, the breed’s name was usually spelled “Manx” or “Stubin”, colloquially on the isle. Today, they are a significant but declining percentage of the local cat population on the Isle of Man.

Genesis 9:18-29 comments: clearing up racist nonsense from the 19th century

9:18 ¶ And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. 20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

9:24 ¶ And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

9:28 ¶ And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

Here we have the beginning of all of the earth’s mythologies as, after the dispersion of mankind at Babel, as men and women grew more distant from the worship of the God who created them and they began to elevate ancestors and mighty men to the level of gods. Noah will eventually become Odin with his two birds and his passion for wine and we’ll have more on this topic later. Cultures will have a memory of patriarchs long dead who will be raised to the level of gods. When you add this to creating gods to explain so-called natural phenomenon that Jehovah God causes, to devils themselves demanding worship, and pure entertainment around a campfire with stories embellished and made more interesting with each generation you can see how mankind descended into idolatry.

Abraham was called out of this religious mess and eventually Moses was given the task of writing down the truth to always have a record for mankind to compare history and religious beliefs against. After the Flood things began to get murky and after Babel things went downhill fast spiritually.

Here is the spiritual history of man summed up for us, explaining the sexual content of ancient religion and how it came about.

Romans 1:19 ¶ Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

The entire earth was eventually settled by the offspring of these three sons. This is not hard to accept, even from the point of view of modern theoretical science. Scientists theorize that there may have been many, “severe population bottlenecks,” of human beings in the distant past based on their assumptions about evolution.[1] Of course, their conclusions are filled with speculations and interpretations based on an atheistic worldview in that they might think, “we don’t know for sure but it must be so because the alternative of the Bible being true is just too horrible for us to imagine.” The point is that here is the ultimate population bottleneck and there may have been others later until humanity got on its feet, so to speak.

Use a population growth calculator online and figure the growth rate where it was for the world in the early 1960s, at 2.2%, and if I am not mistaken you will find that within a thousand years there can be over 5 billion people, starting from just two.

It is possible that, based on the change in conditions, Noah would not have known that fermentation could take place and that he could get drunk. Or, perhaps the long voyage and time of struggle surviving and leading his little tribe after disembarking from the ark made him desperate to get roaring drunk as soon as it was possible to do so. Either way, that is what happened.

To see the nakedness of someone carries with it a very wicked implication.

Leviticus 20:17 And if a man shall take his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister’s nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

But, let’s say, for argument sake, that this is not an idiom suggesting actual sexual contact with either Noah or Ham’s mother which it appears to be.

Leviticus 20:11 And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

To keep from delving into aspects of this event that incite prurient interest in a reader or listener let’s say for argument sake that this event involved only vulgar disrespect and mocking. God had already blessed Noah and his sons in verse 1 of chapter 9. So, Noah cursed Ham’s son, Canaan, and this curse was fulfilled in Israel’s conquest of Canaan hundreds of years later. Noah blessed Shem and Japheth further, due to their respect and merciful deed toward him and their mother, one assumes, and prophesied that Canaan would be their servant, which proved very true as Palestine, where Canaan dwelt, became the victim of many conquests from Israel to the Persians to the Turks to the Crusaders and the Turks again to the British and French with many in between. Palestine was an avenue of conquest between the warlike culture of Babylonia and Assyria to Egypt.

So, why Canaan. We don’t see in the text that Canaan had anything to do with his father’s disrespect of his grandfather. Saying something, “must be so,” that is not in the text is not much of an argument. And why would Canaan be cursed for things remote descendants many generations in the future would do? I see this curse as a prophesy. The descendants of disrespectful Ham hundreds of years from now in the land that the descendants of his son, Canaan, will inhabit, will be a stench in God’s nostrils and thorn in the side of the Jews who are given their land by God.

Noah didn’t curse Canaan. He stated a prophetic fact that Ham’s descendants through Canaan would be a cursed people and be the servant of Shem’s descendants, one strain of which would become the Jews.

There was a myth fostered and promoted as a justification for racial slavery in the United States, although it had a small number of voices before, that Ham was the father of the black, African races, thereby making the supposed curse on Canaan really a curse on Ham and all of his descendants. This myth gained ascendancy in Antebellum America and is still popular among racist preachers and congregations. The most exhaustive study of this myth I have read is by Stephen Haynes, a professor of Religious Studies at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.[2]

While a literal view of this passage reveals that Canaan was said to be cursed, a condition we will see was literally played out as proved in the Bible narrative, we will also soon see that Ham was not just the ancestor of African populations. In fact, let’s make something clear. The idea that Noah walked off the Ark with three sons; one of whom was a white guy, one a black guy, and one an Asian guy is so patently absurd that it can only be dismissed as the raving of a lunatic who has an agenda. Mankind would have been brownish with dark hair and eyes at this time, with some variation possible which foundations were already in the genetic code God had placed in man and God operated with each cell division and each generation. Race, a social construct, that has little bearing in physical reality, based more on politics, geography, and culture, will come about later, over time. Some geneticists estimate that the classic white skinned, blue eyed Caucasian came about between 5 and 6,000 years ago as, in their elongated time frame based on their dating methods, early Europeans were dark-skinned, brown-eyed, and dark-haired. There are a number of genetic studies confirming this belief of the modern geneticist. Unfortunately, we are still using classifications from the racist 19th century that alternately render black people between being, as a group, naturally villains or fools, and impulsive victims of their own biology. Such nonsense should not be honored in a Christian church.

The idea of white as a race is a relatively new thing. In 1619 when the first black slaves were dumped off at Jamestown by a Dutch ship there were no white people there. Or at least they didn’t regard themselves as particularly white. They viewed themselves as English or some other cultural tag. The process of making white a characteristic of the ruling class and black the permanent peasant, serf, slave class happened gradually as the English molded the way they treated the Irish, the poor, indentured servants, etc. into an effective economic system and a method of social control. American slavery came about as a process and regarding Africans as an inferior race cursed from ancient times also came about over time as one part of its justification drawing on a few scattered commentaries from late antiquity and the Middle Ages.

Noah lived for several centuries after the Flood to see several noteworthy events, perhaps to his further shame.

Le calme absolu. Quelques âmes perdues longent le pont. Un couple de quinquagénaires à moitié endormi contemple en silence le port de Marseille, dont le nom est inscrit en grandes lettres sur une colline, à la façon Hollywood. Seul un groupe isolé encore assoiffé de musique fait cracher de l’électro dans des baffles portables roses, aux abords d’une piscine vide. Sur le « front deck », une quinzaine de courageux ont troqué chapeaux pailletés, lunettes roses géantes et pantalons en pattes d’éléphant pour leur tenue de sport afin d’assister, les yeux plissés, à un cours de yoga, prévu à 10 heures tapantes. Ce vendredi matin, les “élus” du festival The Ark sont à peine visibles, eux qui il y a quelques heures à peine se déhanchaient à s’en déboîter le bassin sur le bateau de croisière Freedom of the Seas, qui navigue du 31 au 3 Septembre de Barcelone, vers Marseille et Ibiza.

La veille, le navire n’avait pas encore quitté le port de Barcelone que les festivaliers, trépidant d’impatience, avaient déjà envahi le Lagoon, la plus grande des sept scènes de musique. Lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture à 20h, la fête battait déjà son plein, avec l’extravagance pour seul mot d’ordre. Au bord de la piscine, les pieds dans l’eau, les mains devant le pupitre du DJ, autour ou sur les tables, dans les ascenseurs, le long du pont d’où la côte ressemble à une traînée de lucioles… Tout endroit est bon pour danser à en perdre haleine.Un vieillard en maillot de bain moulant, décoré de formes tribales, fait bouger ses hanches les deux mains sur le sol. Armés de costumes de pingouin, de parasols loufoques et de perruques en forme de poisson, ils faisaient concurrence à ces créatures de la nuit multicolores, aux airs aussi terrifiants que fascinants, juchés sur des podiums pour animer le public.

On ne danse pas qu’entre amis. Les groupes de fêtards s’étendent, se dilatent, se reforment. L’on ne trouve pas un seul visage attristé, une seule expression de colère, un seul geste de méfiance. Comme si ce navire accueillait une grande famille de 4000 personnes qui se connaissent depuis la nuit des temps. L’ambiance, la foule, les décors, les gestes de danse, les paysages, tout respire le bonheur et l’abandon à la musique. Toni Varga, Richy Ahmed, Patrick Topping, Dennis Ferrer s’enchaînent derrière les platines, sans qu’une grande partie du public s’en rende compte. Tant que la basse tape et que le rythme fait pulser les veines, le spectacle se déroule sans entracte.

A peine deux heures plus tard, le capitaine annonce déjà qu’un des voyageurs nécessite une assistance médicale urgente et quittera la bateau pour être rapatrié sur la côte. Un doigt tranché, paraît-il. Encore trois heures s’écoulent et une vitre du majestueux escalier doré qui lie le troisième et quatrième étage du Freedom of the Seas éclate en mille morceaux, sous le poids d’un fêtard tombé sa bouteille de bière à la main. Mais la fête n’est pas près de prendre fin.

Sur la scène Urban à l’avant du bateau, c’est Woodie Smalls, jeune rappeur de Flandre de 20 ans et 2 mètres, qui enjaille le public avec son flow naturel, presque old school qui lui a valu l’étiquette de nouveau phénomène du hip hop. Au quatrième étage, place au son lourd de Sven Väth, initiateur de la première vague trace allemande, ce style caractérisé par des couches rythmiques successives censées amener les danseurs dans un état proche de la transe.

Plus bas, au troisième étage, la patinoire transformée le temps de quelques jours en piste de danse, Claptone, énigmatique DJ et producteur berlinois, affublé d’un inquiétant masque doré devenu sa marque de fabrique, fait vibrer la foule. La salle est noire de monde tant cet artiste mystérieux est devenu en quelques années le nouveau phénomène incontournable de la deep. Alternant voix syncopées, moments de suspense musical, suivis d’une explosion de sons, il dirige son public tel un marionnettiste. Un blondinet Néerlandais, propre sur lui, nous confie subitement : “it’s not about the money”. Et se lance dans une tirade sur la révélation qu’il a eue depuis qu’il a vendu son entreprise pour devenir professeur d’histoire dans un lycée. “Ça m’a coûté plus que mon salaire pour venir ici. Déjà pour ma chambre, j’ai payé 1200 dollars. Mais c’est qu’un détail. Avant je ne voyais jamais mes amis. Maintenant, j’ai appris à vivre.” Sans attendre la moindre réaction, il se dépêche de s’approcher du DJ et lève ses mains en l’air.

Mais le festival se passe aussi dans les entrailles du navire. Une jeune anversois erre dans les couloirs. Il ne sait pas depuis combien de temps. Qu’importe. Il parle aux passants, prend par le cou des inconnus comme s’il les connaissait. L’important c’est de s’amuser. Sans doute, qu’il a déboursé une somme astronomique pour se retrouver sur l’Arche de Noé de la musique électronique. Il ne sait plus trop. “Mais qu’est-ce que l’argent ? C’est ça, la valeur de la vie? Non, c’est le sexe, le bonheur, la musique”, tranche-t-il. “Enfin, si je disais ça haut et fort, 80% des gens se sentiraient vexés, eux qui travaillent 40 heures par semaine pour quelques 1500 euros dont ils ne savent même pas profiter”. Lui ne travaille pas. Enfin si. “Je dois juste être à des endroits à certains moments”, explique-t-il, sans vouloir en dire plus. Autour de lui, les ascenseurs en vitre font des va-et-viens incessants. A travers les portes qui s’ouvrent l’espace de quelques secondes, on surprend un Américain venu tout droit de Californie dire à ses amis : “Mon cerveau sent la cocaïne. Je t’assure, t’as qu’à mettre ton nez sur ma tête”. On le croira sur parole.

Plus loin, un trentenaire originaire d’Anvers reste debout, penché le côté, sans perdre son équilibre. Perdu dans ses pensées, il fixe sa bouteille de bière comme s’il s’apprêtait à prendre la plus grande décision de sa vie. La boire? Ne pas la boire? Il finit par l’offrir. “Après tout, c’est ça l’esprit The Ark”, nous dit-il. Enfin… A 7,50 dollars la Desperados, difficile de faire excès de charité. “C’est fou quand même, ce truc”, s’exclame-t-il, en contemplant l’allée principale du bateau, d’un kitsch à s’en brûler les yeux, avec des statues en or, des colonnes blanches et compagnie. “C’est cool, mais vous imaginez dix jours sur ce bateau? Ce serait l’enfer sur terre”. Pas assez de choses à faire pour passer le temps, estime-t-il. “Ouais enfin, il y a un mini golf. Mais pour ça on peut aller à Knokke hein”. Or, The Ark n’a pas lésiné sur les moyens pour satisfaire presque à tous les caprices de ses festivaliers. L’un des plusieurs restaurants du bateau est même ouvert jusque quatre heures du matin et propose une variété de plats, allant des tacos mexicains aux fameuses frites belges, en passant par des salades et des desserts.

Vers 4 heures du matin, il plane pourtant, dans certaines salles comme un air de fin de soirée. Quelques nouveaux couples se dandinent sans réellement suivre le rythme de la musique. Des solitaires sirotent leur dernier verre. Pour beaucoup, il temps de recharger ses batteries. C’est que ce jeudi n’était que le premier des quatre jours de magie que promet The Ark.

Deuteronomy 7:1-8:20 ~ Luke 7:36-8:3 ~ Psalm 69:1-18 ~ Proverbs 12:1

Today is March 27th. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you. Man, we are rounding the corner on another month, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Here we are, the 27th day of the third month of the year and almost since the beginning we’ve been chasing this story of a land of promise and been trying to get there and we are on the banks of the Jordan. It's not time to go into the promised land now. We’re listening to the final words of Moses as he speaks from his heart and with a weightiness that is necessary to these people, because he is going to disappear from the story when he is done talking. So, back out to the banks of the Jordan River. Deuteronomy chapter 7, verse 1 through 8, verse 20 today. We’re reading from the Common English Bible this week.

Commentary

We are on the eastern side of the Jordan River in what would be modern day Jordan, the ancient land of Moab, across from Jericho. Moses has the children of Israel assembled. Like we’ve been saying, he is saying the last things he has to say. This is the parting shot. He has been encouraging them in all kinds of areas, basically reviewing the law, basically saying, “Look, if you’ll do this stuff right here, it is going to be perfect. It is going to be exactly like what God wants. If you don’t, it's going to be everything but that.”

He encourages them today. “When you go into the land, you have to be careful about these other gods that they are worshipping and not fall for it. You’re not going to go in and take care of all this business in one day. You’re not going to invade this land and it is going to be yours in one day. It is going to take time. It is going to be a little by little thing, a bit by bit thing. Because if you went in and just wiped everything out, you’re not equipped to take possession right now of all this promise anyway. We’d be giving the land to the wild animals who would become a nuisance for you, and so it is going to be a little by little thing.”

That is important. It is important to this story, but it is also important to our lives because a lot of times we’ll get a promise, we’ll get an understanding, we’ll get some clarity about where the Lord is leading us and we’ll start filling in the blanks about what that is going to look like, and then we rush across the proverbial Jordan River into the promised land and boom! It is a little more complicated than we thought. Then we’re discouraged and we’re like, “Where are you going before me? I thought I was just going to be able to waltz into this thing.”

No, we have to contend for things in this world. And that is what gives them value. Think about it. The things that you have had to contend for, that you have had to stand for, that you have had to fight for, the things that you’ve had to press into, the things that you have had to work through, those are the things that you treasure, right? Those are the things that have built your character.

So the children of Israel are being admonished that this is how it is going to be when they go into the promised land. It is going to be systematic, but it is going to be a bit at a time. We need to remember that. We need to remember that this is a process. Life is a process. It is something that is building one thing upon the next upon the next. So wherever it is that we are in our lives, if we are following the Lord, then we are on the right path. The momentary circumstances that would oppose that, that is normal. That happens. We will be victorious. That part is done. So we must stay true and content, little by little until the promise is fulfilled.

Prayer

Father, impatience is something that is all through this species of humanity, especially in this day and age, because our cultures, they try to sell us instant gratification continually, that if we just have enough money we can buy whatever we want. And that may be true, but it does not build character and it is not something that we’ve contended for. It is not something that we’ve stood for. It's not something that has been carefully crafted. So as we move through our lives, may we treat them like the treasure that you do and may we pour into them good things as we stand true and firm and walk with you little by little, step by step, bit by bit, day by day. Come Holy Spirit, we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. It's Brian from Costa Mesa. It's March 23rd and I just finished listening to the prayer requests. This goes out to Scott from Southern California. You just had thousands of people around the world hear your plea for prayer. What you described is heartbreaking and I'm sure we can only understand a small portion of what you’re going through, but first let me just say that you cannot sin more than God is willing to forgive and you have a good hold on who God is and who you are. Trust in that faith. Let this body of Christ surround you and lift you up in prayer. Stay strong. Stay in the faith and be open and honest. I don’t know where it will lead, but I know that the Lord is going to restore you. We pray for you. We pray for your wife. We pray for your kids. We pray for everything surrounding your life. Just know that you have a family here that is standing strong with you. Keep checking in, let us know how it is going.

Good morning family. This is Mary from Melbourne, FL. I would like to pray. Precious Father, I pray for the upcoming More Gathering and all of our precious women who will be attending. I pray that you would draw close to each one in a very special way and reveal yourself to them. Bring them lots of laughter and lots of tears of joy as they are renewed by your Spirit. Meet them all right where they are, Father, and fill them with your Holy Spirit. We pray for Jill and Brian, Father, that you would minister to the people through them. Give them the words to speak and, Father, I pray that you would get them all safely there and safely home and bless them to overflowing. We know you have so many great things for them, Father, so we just ask you to be with them. Give them a joy that they will never forget and we praise you and glorify you in Christ's precious name. Brian and Jill, we love you so much and we thank you for what you’re doing. We know that this is going to be a blessing to our women and we lift them all up knowing that God is really going to bless them. He is going to surprise them with the things that he has for them, so thank you so much for all the work that you’ve done to go behind the scenes and in front of everyone to prepare these women for a wonderful, wonderful blessing from God. Please forgive me and forgive us when we declare that we don’t appreciate the gifts that you’ve given us, when we doubt you after you have brought us through so many situations. Forgive us, O Lord, and help us to love you. Help us to trust you. As __________ from you in the word says, we believe. God, help our unbelief. Father, we come before you asking that you will fill our brother Dean with hope. That you will let him know how much you love him. That you will let him know you are not going to quit on him. Please bless our brother Dean __________ and let him know how much you love him and how much he __________ this community. Father, I pray for our brother Pastor Tom from the UK who is currently in hospice battling terminal cancer. We believe that just as you have brought him through for the last two and a half years, you’re able to touch his body with the power of your Son's resurrection and heal him completely. I also want to let you know that I'm agreeing in prayer with the prayers that are being lifted up daily on behalf of those calling in and I'm just praising and thanking God for answering in the way that he knows is best. Please join me in praying for Stanley who called in around the 18th or 19th. Isaiah 40:31 says they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up on wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. And Galatians 6:9 says so don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time. Father, thank you for your word and how it will reassure Stanley in his role as an educator. Thank you for giving him the wisdom, the understanding and knowledge he needs for the opportunity you have given him. Help him to seek your face for guidance and direction. May he be encouraged and know, Lord God, that you love him and you care about the things that are concerning him. Please, Father, give him courage, confidence, strength, and peace. Jesus, we’re dealing with isolation from friends and family. Father, we’re dealing with financial issues that just seem to be too much. God, we’re dealing with pornography. Father, we’re struggling with our flesh. God, we’re dealing with alcoholism and drug abuse. Father, we’re dealing with emotional and physical abuse. God, some of us have been raped. Some of us have been mugged and robbed and stolen from and lied on and cheated on. So God, we’re coming to you. Jesus, we need you. Holy Spirit, come now. Comfort us in our time of need. We thank you, Father, for your word that says that you give us the peace which passes all understanding. We pray for that peace now, God, as we go to your word each and every day.
