The Old Guard: Groundhog Day, the film crossover nobody expected: Booker goes to the USA in search of a rumored immortality elixir in hopes it will help to better understand his own immortality and perhaps keep Nile from having to live through the loss of her family like he did. Instead, he learns to deal with grief and loss from another immortal who none of them ever expected.

(The gang happened to be around to watch the Groundhog Day festivities just after Phil became immortal, so they never dreamed of him long enough to realize he was one of them.)

Quick little yap for today. It really bugs me when people talk about Joe and Booker having a friendly rilvary banter. They don't. Period!

In every interaction Joe and Booker have it's the most dude-bro friendship that doesn't border on homoerotic (although this is highly debated). Even Andy, who has the deepest connection with Booker (but that's another story), slaps him at one point and jokes about his explosion. There's a reason why Joe reacts in anger to Booker's betrayal, it's because he held so much trust with Booker and thought they had a close enough relationship to talk about this stuff.

Now, if there was a sibling rilvary... it's Booker and Nicky

Just rewatched The Old Guard because of THE NEWS and it is still a great movie, really holds up. The characters are incredible, the music score is really cool, I still really love Joe x Nicky and Nile and Andy and Booker. The Joe scene "is he my boyfriend?" is still absolutely legendary. Andy is an absolute badass.

One scene that absolutely broke my heart and hadn't impacted my memory as much as I thought is Booker learning that he is exiled for 100 yrs and realising he's not gonna be there for Andy's last year's. That shit was Heartbreaking. Matthias Schoenarts and Charlize Theron you did so good istg. Booker's eyes 🥹 Charlize holding back tears and timid smile 🥹 the hug 🥹

The Old Guard was SO fucked up for being like “we’re all immortal with a single catch that any of our deaths could be the last.” Then have two of them being romantically involved for CENTURIES and every single time they die together, in the back of their minds, they wonder if the other is going to get back up with them.

do you guys remember the Old Guard. remember when there was a major mainstream hollywood action scifi motion picture starring hot women with guns where gay people kissed on the mouth passionately. and the movie was both critically and financially successful. that movie feels like a fucking fever dream. i'll never achieve the high i got when that movie came out ever again
