My mother has a habit of saying live actions are an upgrade from animation, that it's "much better to watch something realistic." She even had the gall to say, and I quote, "they probably made a cartoon of a black spider-man as a test so they can make a live action later" and like... No? Spider verse took years to make, and it's a work of art in its own merit, not some prototype for when"the real thing" comes along.

I think it's extremely disrespectful to think like that, animated movies and series are already underestimated or regarded as something made exclusively for children. This constant remaking of beloved movies into live action is very lazy in my opinion, why not make new stories? There are so many great books that could be adapted to the screen. Even sequels would be a better alternative, look at the Incredibles II and how popular it got.

These huge ass corporations are so busy just trying to make money off of nostalgia, that they are trying to fix something that wasn't even broken in the first place.

my biggest issue with the httyd live action-and just about any live action reboot is that it seems that the live action adaptations are being made to make the original “better”? like, so many people talk about a live action spiderverse, a live action hercules, a live action PRINCE OF EGYPT (dont piss me OFF.)-like animation is a beautiful work of art, and for some reason putting real people and cgi in it is supposed to be an “upgrade”? im probably being that friend that’s too woke or whatever, but i just think it’s so disrespectful to act like something that takes so much time and effort and energy is immediately considered as lower because it is animated. animation is beautiful, and it is one of the most heartfelt art forms there are, and erasing that for the sake of a cash grab is downright degrading to animation as a medium.

Happy Ten Years to The Book of Life ! Look out for me nostalgia posting later but here's some art to celebrate featuring the ot3 of all time. I still think about this trio a lot, even if I don't have the art to show for it.

I wish I could have done more but life got really crazy in this final quarter of the year, maybe next year I can try some of the things I'd been planning, but for now here's this!
