soulmate au concept: soul songs

idk if i can exactly call this a soulmate au, but it's soulmate-esque so. whatever

basically, in this au everyone has a 'soul song' that they nurture from a very young age. some songs can be sung acapella, some require an instrument, some require a whole band or orchestra or whatever but each one is mostly distinct from all the others. usually someone's soul song doesn't change that much over their lifetime, but it can and often does in minor ways as they grow older

people with soul songs that sound nice when put together (because they harmonize or layer well or whatever else) tend to have healthier relationships, whether they be platonic, romantic, familial etc. while people whose soul songs sound like ass when sung together typically won't be as happy together. some ppl have super specific songs that are difficult to find a good match for, and others have songs that are way easier to mesh with a wide variety of people.

also if someones soul song isn't properly nurtured when they're a kid, it can seriously fuck with their relationships later on. but it's possible to find and develop a soul song wayy into adulthood though it gets harder the older someone gets

im thinking in a modern society with soul songs there'd probably be concerts where you can go to just sing your soul song and find someone (or multiple someones) who fit(s) your song well. alternatively consider dating apps where you upload your song and get paired with good soul song matches!!
