it's gonna be interesting to see what happens when the actual fandom gets its hands on SH2R, because the amount of pre-emptive cope that's happening right now is astounding

#as a disclaimer #this is an extremely wonky post #6 points on metacritic might not seem like a huge gulf if you're unfamiliar with the games industry #but it is actually a MASSIVE gulf #if SH2 doesn't do RE's regular sales numbers #it will be deemed a failure by konami #historically RE has always sold more than SH #but when you have a GENRE-DEFINING TITLE like SH2 #and it's only pulling scores in the 80s #and it's NOT reaching RE's heights in sales #then what was the point of pouring all of that money into remaking said genre-defining title?#what was the actual payoff here?#to rework a game that was considered timeless and untouchable into something that's just Mid?#that's a failure by every conceivable metric #that's why capcom dragged their feet on remaking RE2 for decades and considered it a huge gamble when it was finally greenlit #that's why shinji mikami has PTSD over REmake's initial reception #that's why capcom yanked RE4make out of the hands of M-Two after two full years of dev #that's why square enix spent EIGHT YEARS on just PART ONE of FF7R and why dev was rebooted twice #for a game like this #if it's not perfect #then it's a failure #and the SH fandom might be the worst fandom in AAA gaming #once your perpetually anally devastated diehard SH fans get a hold of SH2R #this might actually be what kills SH
