Much like the idea that fanfiction makes a piece of fiction good, the idea that modding makes a game good is just as flawed, because any given modding scene wouldn't be nearly as active if the game could stand on its own legs

#im talking about Skyrim here but im sure it could apply to other games #'skyrim is good because of how moddable it is' ❌ -> 'skyrim cant be good because you need 30+ mods to make it playable' ✔️#also im learning more about how bad skyrim is at actually handling mods and wow its kinda crazy. i wish someone would improve that but #that'd require changing some big engine stuff. and probably can't be modded in by virtue of trolls law
