Red Thread questions part 2 electric Boogaloo (or something like that idk), the "is that a spoiler" wheel goes spinnnn
What do demons look like in this universe? Like humans, just with "demonic" traits like horns? or maybe they have a completely different, monstrous form they can shapeshift into? Considering nobody knew about Mumbo, they must at least be able to make themselves look human..
are there any advantages/disadvantages that come with being a demon? for example, immunity to fire, weakness to water etc
do summonings only work for one specific demon (like a personal phone number) or is it simply by coincidence (i will assume it's the former, since impulse was specifically summoned)?
How exactly do summonings work? what do you need for it? can a demon feel when they're being summoned, can they resist it? can a demon be summoned when already in the primary plane? (If so, how much do Zed and Tango use that to annoy impulse?)
why do people decide to summon demons (aside from being friends with them lol)? do demons have any powers they wish to use to their advantage? are there "safety precautions" people go through to make sure the demon doesn't attack them after an unwilling summoning?
what would be examples of a willing summoning? You mentioned demons helping demon hunters sometimes, so are they summoned for that? How can demons be told about being summoned when communication across planes isn't possible/is hard?
What different planes are there? We know about the demon one, and the primary, but you also mentioned there are others. Did you mean the nether or end with that, or are those considered part of the primary plane?
I am curious about all the stuff you didn't answer last time bc of spoilers, and what exactly is meant with "elemental" 👀 the demon realm also sounds really cool, I wonder if impulse ever misses his home/the other demons he lived there with...
Welcome back, let's goooo!
Question 1: you are going to have such a fun next chapter
Question 2: Strength and weakness depends on type! Very much ties into the 'elemental' thing, I've put a fair bit of thought into demon taxonomy. I've never really played a Pokemon game in my life but someone told me it was like that idk how right they are. None of them have any type of damage that they're super severely weak against or anything like that, but their physical properties are dependent on their primary and secondary elemental characteristics, and they might be more effective in certain areas or more resistant to certain damages because of that.
Question 3: Yes! Each demon has a personal summoning ritual linked to them and them alone. It isn't a naturally occurring trait - they get given a ritual in a ceremony at a certain age. As for the other stuff, summoning only really works across planes, not physical distance. It cannot be resisted. (There would probably be a lot less demand for False's old line of work if it could be...)
Other summoning questions: ....ah. Hm. Those certainly Are.
There are some amount of unwilling demon summonings that can be accidental (a person got a hold of a ritual when they shouldn't have, or they messed up one they did have and got the wrong demon, or they accidentally stumbled on one while messing with magic in general, although that's much more rare). However, most unwilling summonings would be people trying to harness a demon's power who just don't understand the risk, or think they have enough precautions to avoid it (they usually don't). Then there are people who do understand the risk and are planning on using the wrath of the unwilling demon itself as a weapon...yeah, there's a really wide variety of situations for Demon Incidents. A lot of them could have been avoided if more people saw demons as people and not resources to be deployed, so the CDO tends to remind the public of that alongside and even before their warnings about the danger when running education/prevention campaigns. (The demons who work with them aren't usually summoned to do that - they're just already living on the Primary Plane and wanted a job)
PLANES. Planes. Dimensional systems my so dearly beloved. I could go off on that, but I should probably save it for the Zed chapters - he's got some interesting info on the matter. But I can tell you that dimensions (the End, Overworld, and Nether) exist within planes (the Primary Plane, the Demonic Plane, and Limbo, among minor others) and that different Minecraft "worlds" are referred to as "iterations" of the Primary Plane. Hermitcraft seasons would be "sub-iterations", which are kind of bundled together into one iteration with the current one being the most "real" and past seasons existing as sort of ghost imprints on reality...I am. A massive nerd for multiverse systems. I am such a massive nerd for that and this is the first one I've designed for years. I'm holding off on the worldbuilding infodumping in the actual fic until later but believe me I am Vibrating
#ask#red thread au#little extra tidbit, just because the history doesn't come into things much as far as the plot is concerned#but as a treat...in the heading of the CDO file X requested there is a unit of time#p.b.#that stands for years 'post-Breach'#usually,unwilling demon summonings are individual acts of violence or stupidity#but there was a group over 200 years ago whose ambition outstripped their care for the world so severely that they nearly decimated a plane#mass summoning...not pretty#not pretty at all#that easter egg just to say: there's a reason signs of premeditated or stealthy demon activity are dealt with so seriously#thank you again for asking all these questions!! it really helps to keep me engaged with the project
