I have always sort of wondered what makes culturally christian escapees to atheism so resistent to the idea that religions other than christianity really and genuinely are EXTREMELY different and trying to insist that this one aspect of christianity you hate most is definitely for sure universal to all religions this time is going to make you come across as A) an asshole, and B) an asshole that those of us from marginalized religions can't trust because apparently you won't even believe us when you're told you're misrepresenting our faiths.
#oh ladida every religion in the world pursues aggressive conversion practices#literally no#literally so many religions barely even offer conversion#and still more may offer it but simply do not put effort into pursuing potential converts because that wouldn't be right to them#are there non-christian religions that do it? yeah! i'm sure! bit it's still not a universal evil of religion my guy#and the more that happena the more times these people put their feet in their mouths about it#the clearer it becomes that what you mean when you say all religion is oppressive#is that you personally have found all your experiences of religion oppressive not that you know all religions to be exclusively oppressive#the thing about ANY cultural identity is that it can be used in oppressive ways#that doesn't make the identity/community itself inherently oppressive tho#boy howdy you all sound deeply genocidal when you say this shit too
