Thinking always about how Daniel really could have left Lando in the dust and cut all ties with McLaren, but nooooOOOOoooooo—he loves Lando. He loves Lando and the way Lando looks at him: fond, annoyed, affectionate, happy. . . it’s everything that they couldn’t properly have last year, and now Lando gets him on the grid, with him every race weekend again. Sorry that I went a little off the prompt. I just had this idea for Daniel comforting Lando subtly, and Lando picking up on it and just being so touched 🥹

"What's all this then?" Daniel hadn't heard the door to the apartment open or Lando's footsteps in the hallway over the sound of his playlist. He had been too busy singing along as he cooked, trying not burn anything or accidentally set another tea towel on fire like he had last month. "Jesus christ you cunt", Daniel jumped at the sound of the others voice, and when turned around Lando was watching him with a smile, biting his lip to not laugh, "I'm getting you a collar and a bell" "Kinky", Lando snorted as he walked into the kitchen. Daniel just shook his head at the other before he held up on arm, letting Lando tuck in against his side. He pressed a kiss to the other's curls. His other hand continued to stir the sauce as it was cooking. The heat was low enough that it should burn, and it smelt good, at least Daniel thought it did, but he the Lando was leaning towards it, he guessed he was doing okay.

"Are you making your Nonna's special spaghetti?", Lando asked, a bright smile creeping onto his tired face, "I love your Nonna's spaghetti"

Daniel hid his grin in Lando’s hair, and resisted the urge to do a fist bump. He had hoped that this would perk Lando up. He had always found it comforting when his Mum had made this recipe growing up, and Lando had loved it when they had visited his parents.

After the last few weeks and how exhausted Lando seemed, Daniel had just thought that this might perk him up a bit or help him relax.

"I even have garlic bread warming in the oven", Daniel kissed Lando’s temple as Lando pulled away to ask something but Dabiel beat him to it, "Yes I have one roll for you and one for me"

"You know me so well", Lando laughed as he reached up to cup Daniel's cheek and pull him into a soft kiss, "Thank you"

Daniel just smiled and kissed Lando again. His hands drifted to his waist, holding him close as Labdo leaned against him until the timer dinged and Daniel, regretfully, pulled back with one last kiss to the others forehead.

"Go sit down, I'll be put with food in a minute, yeah?", Daniel reassured, "And maybe then we can cuddle, have a drink and watch The Hangover"

Lando hummed softly as he looked at Daniel. His eyes narrowed a little as he stared at him before his gaze softened. The curious look was replaced with something soft and loving as a small smile graced his lips.

"You're doing all this for me, aren't you?", Lando asked, reaching out to wrap a few of his fingers around Daniel's and squeezing softly, "You didn't have to. I'm okay, really"

Daniel just smiled back and leaned in to kiss Lando again quickly.

"Baby, I'd steal the moon for you just to make you smile", Daniel admitted, lifting Lando’s hand to kiss the back of it softly, "Now go sit down before I burn our nice dinner, yeah?"

Lando didn't protest that time, and he sat close to Daniel at the table. Arms pressed together as they ate and talked softly. He even gave Daniel the end pieces of the roll of garlic bread that they usually fought over and Daniel had felt the urge to wax poetry about love but he didn't.

Now wasn't the time for it as he held Lando close. The others back against his chest as Lando laughed at The Hangover despite having watched it a million times before.

Right now, he just wanted to hold Lando and keep him like this; laughing and happy as they stole soft, wine flavoured kisses between scenes.

He could write him a sonnet another today.

It sucked. God it sucked so much....

Lando didn't want to look like the petulant child he got accused of being, by some people at least, but he couldn't hide the fact that it fucking hurt.

He was fighting for the championship here. He was still able to give Max a run for his money for the first time in years.

Max seemed to be struggling with his car, so of course the competitor in Lando wanted to take advantage. Max would do the same thing.

Every F1 driver would.

So why---why did he have to let Oscar get ahead of him?

Luckily---- Luckily he had someone who'd understand. Someone who always understood him.

Lando rolled his eyes, looking up from his sitting space on the floor.

Yes it might look dramatic. Leave him alone.

"Leave me alone."

Yeah, he already knew what the other's answer was gonna be.

A laugh. A body sitting down next to him.

"Yeah, buddy. Not gonna happen."

Lando lets out a deep exhale. "I know." He suddenly realized something... "They fucked you over too, huh?"

Daniel nods, then shrugs. "I still pulled everything out of the car that I could."

Lando reaches out. Rests his hand on Daniel's thigh. Squeezes.

"You always do, Danny."

Daniel gives him a small smile, rests his hand on top of Lando's.

"I'm sorry, Lan. But I know you're still gonna fight."

Lando turns his hand over. Tangles his fingers through Daniel's.

"Of course I will."

Daniel smiles, squeezes his fingers, then tugs on his hand.

"Come here."

Lando groans. Acting like he doesn't like to be handled like a ragdoll, but still ends up sitting between Daniel's legs, Daniel's arms around his middle, Daniel's chin on his shoulder.

He leans back against Daniel's chest with a soft sigh. Lips curling into a small smile when he feels the other's lips press against his jawline.

"Thank you..." he murmurs, feeling the other's arms squeeze him tightly.

"Anytime."

Acclaimed Power Pop Musician Kurt Bake Releases New Single "Inner Demons"

Fresh off a short run of shows in Spain (including a stint opening for Evan Dando), acclaimed American musician/songwriter, and power pop/rock maestro Kurt Baker has released the new single "Delusional" via Wicked Cool Records.

"It's kinda annoying to trace many stories back to such a horrible time, the pandemic, but this song came from that period," explains Baker. Locked in strict confinement in Madrid, I was in my tiny room, just listening to the radio and watching episodes of Bob Newhart. 

"Inner Demons" was originally called "Keep Wishing" and I wanna thank my friend from Australia, Mark, for being the instigator for this track. He had asked me to start throwing around some song ideas for a possible record for his band, the Stanleys. This is one of the songs that came from that time I was stuck inside and just writing tracks. It's changed a lot since then. It became a contender for the “Rock N Roll Club” LP, but never made the cut. When I came back to those tracks that had been leftover from the sessions, I started to rework “Keep Wishing” with my pals and bandmates Geoff Palmer and Wyatt Funderburk. Geoff is great with lyrics and got inspired, and he started sending me lots of different lyrical lines, and from that the song took a whole new direction. Wyatt came up with a bridge part and before we knew it, we had a another track finished. Theme wise, this track is another introspective kind of vibe. Gotta send my inner demons back to hell... we always have those negative thoughts, but this song is about trying to let go of the negativity and gravitate towards positivity. At least, that’s what I make out of it. Musically, we are referencing bands from my youth, like the last track “Delusional”. This one definitely has hints of Green Day, Alkaline Trio or maybe even the Bouncing Souls. I hope you dig it!"

Lando had a thing for Daniel's hands.

He wasn't sure when it had started. Maybe it had always been there. Maybe it was the first time that Daniel had gripped Lando by the waist to move him out of the way and Lando felt his cheeks flame with a blush so hot he almost felt dizzy with it. Those hands, big, warm, and solid, had wrapped around his waist and the strength in his grip had made Lando swallow harshly. He had passed it off with a laugh and a roll of his eyes, teasing Daniel with words but his gaze had lingered on those hands.

And suddenly they were all Lando was aware of.

There was just something about them that caught his attention. It didn't matter if they were on him, or simply holding a water bottle. Every time, Lando found himself staring admiring his hands and what was worse was that Daniel had noticed.

"You really like my hands, huh baby?", Daniel teased as he pressed Lando into the bed and kissed across his face and neck, "What's got you so riled up about them?"

Lando flushed with embarrassment and he bit back a whine as he tried to lift his own hands to cover his face. Daniel didn't let him. One of his big hands caught Lando's wrists, and pinned them above his head, making Lando let out a little gasp that had Daniel smirking.

"You going to answer me?", Daniel asked as leaned down to kiss him as he felt Daniel's grip tighten on his wrists. Lando hoped they left bruises, and that thought had him arching, pressing up against Daniel to try relieve some of the pressure but Daniel just laughed, "Oh baby, you're not getting off until you tell me"

Lando whined, still arched and trying to take in a breath through the way his body was quivering. He loved when Daniel got like this. He loved the way he manhandled him and took control like this until Lando snapped and gave in.

"Love your hands. They're so strong, love how they feel", Lando rushed the words out, blinking up at Daniel, begging with his eyes for him to do something, and Daniel just grinned.

"Thank you baby", Daniel murmured against his lips as he let go of Lando's wrists to sneak his hand down between their bodies to where Lando was aching for his touch, "Gonna make you feel good now for being so good for me"

hiiiii I just wanted to say thank god I'm not the only one wallowing in dando angst right now ;_; i totally agree, if i was lando and secretly in love with daniel and had to bear witness to barrage of maxiel and the "daniel coming home" narrative i too would make questionable personal grooming decisions or like you said: walk off the monaco pier.

srsly tho, i imagine Lando secretly hating the daniel “coming home" to rbr narrative. He is happy for Daniel, he really is. He's happy to see that Daniel's starting to fill out his clothes. That he’s starting to laugh like himself again. That he's lighter, unburdened. That he's home.

But it says something doesn’t it? The fact that the only home Lando has ever known nearly destroyed Daniel? 

It's a selfish and shitty to focus on that because it was never about Lando. It's about Daniel finding himself again.

But he's making it quite clear that in order to do that he has to go far away (from Lando) because that's where he lost himself in the first place (next to Lando). When Daniel says that he couldn’t work things out with the team, why shouldn't Lando include himself in that? After all, they're one and the same at this point. Mclaren implies Lando the same way RedBull implies Max.

...and then there’s Max. Max isn’t involved in this, but he also is. In the way Max is always implicated when it comes to Daniel. The way his presence implicit when it comes to Daniel. The way Lando found himself being compared to Max simply for stepping into the place he once occupied (as if standing next to Daniel is Max’s god given right). The way it fucking stings that Daniel is happier at RedBull because of what it implied–he’s happier with Max. 

anyway, the tragedy and right-person at the wrong time of it all is what rly haunts me abt dando.

And now there’s an unbearable distance between them that stops Daniel from saying the obvious. (I told you so. Just leave. Or worse, you deserve better than this) He just teases Lando about his beard, and it makes Lando want to cry.

So he keeps his distance because what's the point? Daniel isn't mandated to spend time with him anymore. They're very different people anyway. They've got very different interests. Daniel loves his wine and his farm and lando loves golf and kind of i guess enjoys twitch streaming...

Lando cant let himself think about all the ways that they used to be the same because if he does he'll fall apart.

He also cant bring himself to approach danny much because like. He cant stand the thought of pity in danny's eyes. It's just so fucking LAYERED. How many times did daniel get blamed for his performance. How many times did lando see his smile not quite reach his eyes. How many times did lando ignore it.
