Instead, Tessie O’Reily wakes up at her own funeral.

Maybe she should have paid more attention to Sunday school…

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! IT"S FINISHED!!!!!! AKA Tessie O'Reily literally haunts the narrative! That fic that no one but me asked for! But I wrote it! Hurray me! This is probably the longest thing I have ever written :P Not as fun as it could have been, BUT IT'S DONE!!!!!

Hi, I'd love any commentary you might have for Leaving and Coming Back, or just ⭐️ for whatever you'd like to talk about, if you feel like it.

So @imposterzoe, I'll just include your answer here! :P

"Leaving and Coming Back" is a direct result of "Love and Loathing"! I believe that a few people left comments on the Suzanne chapter, and I had already wanted to do a version of that story from Suzanne's perspective.

I liked exploring the "why" she came back and thought that it would be much more interesting if it was because of Tessie rather than Ryan. Also this is where the Tessie/Suzanne started to happen in my brain.

The first version of this they were just friends but, again I over analyzed the one scene where Suzanne mentions Tessie, and thought that the whole idea would a lot more fun and interesting if they had been girlfriends.

Other than that, I really just liked the idea of Suzanne running and traveling and then coming home to see that the world had moved on... I just needed a reason for her to come back, which in the show I think was just a vague "I decided to stop running and face the music" which works! I just think that the show writer could have been more creative about it!

But I always kinda just assumed that, at the very least, Tessie and Suzanne had an awareness of each other but it's just so much more dramatic if they were lovers!!

And since I had done a fic from Tessie's perspective it was only fair to see the relationship from Suzanne's and thus "Leaving and Coming Back" happened! (not the best title but, oh well)

That said writing from Suzanne's perspective was a lot more difficult...I was a lot more worried that she would come across as OOC... But I think it went OK!

Hi, saw you reblogged the thing about it being okay to send asks about your fics, and I'm curious as to what inspired you to write Suzanne/Tessie if you feel like talking about it? (They hadn't occurred to me, but it's interesting to think about them, given that we didn't get much about Tessie especially.)

Hello, I don't mind talking about it!

The short answer is that my brain is weird and that I over analyzed the hell out of one scene.

I have this tendency to fixate on the dead or absentee females (the "dead wife" for example) in shows, for what ever reason... so Tessie was already kind of in my brain from that first flashback of her.

And then Suzanne showed up, and I really liked her character despite Ryan not being one of my favorites. (I like his character, I just like other charcters more) And then there was this scene in at the end of season 5, episode 5 were the O'Reily family has a meeting about getting Cyril a lawyer.

In it Suzanne mentions that Seamus and Tessie didn't wait very long to get together after Suzanne left, which in my mind sounded like she was aware of Tessie...and she seemed shocked and upset when Seamus told her just how long he had been seeing Tessie. The whole scene was tense and kind of bitter in a way that probably was to show that Suzanne and Ryan had been talking and that at one point they had been a family.

But, to my ears, Suzanne also sounded a bit jealous??? So my brain went into "what if" mode: what if they had been friends, which makes this whole situation messier (and therfore more fun!), what if Tessie getting with Seamus had nothing to do with him but instead was about Suzanne, what if Suzanne coming back was more about Tessie then about Ryan, what if they had been girlfriends?!?!?!

And well things spiraled from there 🤪

And there were no fics for it, so I tried my hand at writing! That was the first creative writing I've done since high school, which was a long time ago! But it was fun so!!

I kinda like this messy pairing, so I think that I'm going to continue with it for a while! 😆

OK, sorry about the wait! This is maybe based off of a deleted scene or at the very least an obscure one... where Omar White mentions that Suzanne wishes that he was her son rather then Ryan... which I thought was funny! If this isn't what you were looking for, I apologize, and I can try something else or you can send in a different prompt.

"How long does it take to get to acceptance?"

Father Mukada seems startled by her question and she already knows the answer: it's nuanced and each individual is different - trust in God. But Suzanne still feels guilty that that it's easier to accept a stranger rather than her own son; easier to accept Omar White as a flawed individual than it is to accept that Ryan O'Reily is her own flesh and blood.

Omar for all his bizarre energy is at least trying to be a better person and seems genuinely interested in her and her lessons. Ryan on the other hand continues to lie and try to manipulate her; it might have been easier if he didn't lie the same way as Tessie did: unblinking and straight to her face.

Suzanne sighs, she's pretty sure it's a sin but, this whole situation would be so much easier if Omar White had been her son instead.

Hello, Sorry for the delay! Today was strangely busy. This one gets a little angsty... Sorry about that. I could do a happier version if you wanted. Anyways I hope that is okay and that you enjoy it! Thank you!

She doesn’t listen to the news; changes the radio station until she finds the music again. And she doesn’t own a TV – not that one would fit in her tiny apartment. While waiting in line at the grocery store or at the bus station she looks at the headlines on the news stands. But she never picks one up and reads any articles. It’s not like she’s missing anything, not really; the world is crap, always was and always will be. All the news does is report the same crappiness that’s always been here and put a different coat of paint on it. But deep down the problems are all the same.

It's much easier to enjoy what you can and dance through the rest of it; no need to borrow anyone else’s trouble! Suzanne disagrees. Often and passionately. She’ll get into one of her speeches and a fire will spark in those green eyes. Tessie likes that fire! And Suzanne’s face will flush red and if Tessie pushes her just right that beautiful flush will creep down her neck.

At that point there is only one way to get Suzanne to stop talking: kiss her senseless and pull her into bed. Make her whole-body flush with passion and desire. Tessie really enjoys that! Honestly one its one of her favourite things to do: seeing just how far she can get that beautiful blush to blush across that beautiful body!

Lately, though Suzanne has been skipping the whole passionate sex part of their visits. Instead, she drops off the baby and rushes out the door. Not a hello or how are you? Just a here’s the baby and some supplies, I’ll be back in a few days! As if Tessie was just waiting at Suzanne’s beck and call; as if she didn’t have better things to do.

So, when Suzanne bursts through her door sans baby, Tessie is actually pretty damn happy! Those bright green eyes hold back a wild fire that seems desperate to escape Suzanne’s body; cheeks flushed and panting slightly as if she has been running.

Before Tessie can say anything, Suzanne smashes their mouths together. Lips. Teeth. Tongues. Heat. Just as Tessie is finding the rhythm, Suzanne wrenches back.

“Come on, have a little fun,” Tessie goads. Suzanne huffs a breathless laugh and shakes her head.

“Tomorrow. I promise,” And presses back into Tessie. Softer this time. Slower like she’s trying to memorize the shape and taste of her mouth. “I love you!” She whispers and then runs out the still open door.

Tessie spends the rest of the day in a bubble of happiness and excitement! Giggling and dancing and preparing for tomorrow.

Tomorrow comes and the news is unavoidable. Suzanne Fitzgerald is everywhere. Her name is spoken on all the radio stations and written in all the headlines. Her face is plastered everywhere as the manhunt begins.

She is everywhere except in Tessie’s apartment.

Tessie sits in her underwear and does her best to ignore the world. She throws out the candles and the food that she had bought the day before. Waits for nightfall and for a numbness to consume her before she lets the tears fall.

Goodbye.

So here we go:

♟️ "Everyone is king when there is no one left to pawn" - This is my experiment into a pre-slash Nikolai Stanislofsky/Ryan O'Reily. Season 4 AU where Nikolai lives and is forced into partnership with Ryan. Lots of misunderstandings, miscommunications, chess and comparisons to Chico and Miguel. (Also Wile E Coyote references for whatever reason) We'll see how it goes...

❤️ A no title yet Suzanne/Tessie pre-slash fic that is a slightly happier version of the kiss goodbye prompt that I received from @merelyafigment. Some pinning and longing from a young Suzanne and Tessie kissing her on the cheek for goodbyes.

And this next one is still very nebulous but I will write it:

❄️ No title yet Chico/Miguel fic where all the heaters broke in Oz so now they have to cuddle for warmth. Miguel muses on things and Chico sleeps through it mostly. First time writing for these two so, we'll see how that goes.

Director's commentary on "Hell is What you Make"!

So, that monstrosity started when miguelryan left a very nice comment on "Love and Loathing" which said that it was sad that Tessie wasn't around to see what her boys became.

And I said, you know what! She should see the whole tragedy that is the O'Reily brothers; that would be fun! Many months later and I finally got "Hell is What you Make" done!!!!!!

That said it went in a few directions that I wasn't expecting...

But first the title was inspired by the song "This Is Gonna Hurt" by Sixx:A.M. (there is a slower acoustic version that I really love and that is kinda perfect for Tessie, I just can't find it anymore....)

And originally the main ghost that I wanted Tessie to interact with was Dino Ortolani instead of Ricardo Alvarez. But Dino was too antagonistic and distracting (plus I didn't want to go into mafia politics) and I wanted Tessie fall collapse into herself by herself, not having some one "push" her to it, if that makes sense. And then I remembered Ricardo and he fit sooo much better.

Also he is a character that I felt semi-comfortable writing just because I figured that there was less for me to mess up....

And then Tessie just had soooooo much to say and do, much more then I had originally anticipated! Had to cut some things out because of it. Like I wanted a scene where Cloutier or Meehan tried to comfort her and basically she feeds him to the "cold hell". Again I just thought it was too violent for where she was currently at so...

And I have some thoughts on the whole epilogue and the Ricardo/Tessie situation like Tessie wanted to just kill EVERYONE and Ricardo wanted to spare Eduardo and Miguel. Dealers choice on if he succeeded or not. (also dealers choice and if Eduardo and Miguel are trapped with Ricardo a la Cyril style) But I see that as the one major contention between them And that Ricardo's territory is generally higher up closer to the sun and he lets pigeons hang out on the roof sometimes. And Tessie is very much in the bowels of Oz.

Another way that it could have ended was Tessie trying to make a new family with Ricardo and Cyril in the most unhinged way possible. But I think the ending I went with works better!
