The number of people that completely villianize female characters is just another example of fandoms infantilizing male main characters. I understand protecting your favourites, but when you get to the point that you genuinely think they've never done anything wrong, you've put blinders on. It's almost always done towards female characters that the fandom feels have wronged male characters specifically. I get making jokes like, "Oh actually, my fav has never done anything wrong ever." I do it too. It can be funny. Nobody is saying you have to like a female character or you're a misogynist, but there is just such a clear, obvious pattern happening, and I don't think people even realize it. Male main characters will make the most toxic, horrible, stupid decisions, and the fandom with worship them, but the second a female character does something even remotely questionable, everybody goes off. It doesn't matter how kind or likable the woman is, the minute she does something the fandom sees as a slight against the male main character, she is shunned or ridiculed. I understand defending your favourite character because you love them, I really do, but the level that people infantilize them is just wild. A female character will have a perfectly understandable reaction to something the male main character did, and the fandom will still turn it around on her by saying things like, "Well he didn't know any better." Or, "Well, he was sad." Alright? Most humans, when they are hurt, do not turn around and kiss that person and coddle them. Getting upset, while it may not be the ideal reaction, is the most realistic one. And it's always grown ass men people are saying didn't know better than to do something obviously destructive. So they don't know better, and that's okay, but the female character struggles, and that's not? Obviously, I'm just talking about fiction, and doing this doesn't make you a bad person, and it doesn't mean you hate women. But it's just a clear pattern of misogyny in media that I think is important to recognize

I might have reblogged some drarry fanarts recently, but it’s mainly to support the artists and in nostalgia of this beloved ship which I do keep close to my heart, despite now rejecting the original work. Because NO, we cannot separate the art from the artist.

I know there’s a whole debate about it. I personally think we shouldn’t support anything that can bring her money, like buy her books directly. But when it comes to fanfiction and fanart I think it’s a form of rebellion, especially if it’s a way to highlight queer or trans characters. If anything, we’re taking the narrative from her. Everybody knows HP already so it’s not publicity for her either. On the contrary, we have the ability to remodel her characters, to turn the hate into love, and she can’t do anything about it.

the brainrot of terfism really needs to be studied because it really is something that just consumes people. like there's definitely levels to it and all (and they're all bad, to be clear) but if you look into like the big name terfs, they either stop being terfs or they go insane.

like its such levels of insanity on par with q anon shit, and someone needs to start looking into that shit because something really does happen to the brain when terfism is entertained and you can't stop thinking that trans people are out to get you.

All that, and so many other things, too, like the *house elf heads* on the walls in Grimauld Place. Slave heads. Stuffed and mounted on the walls. While other house elves were expected to work as normal in the same rooms and halls. They probably (definitely) had to dust them. They might have known them when they were alive. ... But naaaah, that's just a little detail to show the house is creepy, let's sweep right past that and focus on how this old slave the young wealthy wizard has inherited and now *owns* - our hero owns a slave now, isn't that normal - is really mean and crotchety and rude and racist.

Be shocked at his disdain for non-wizards and wizards descended from non-wizards! What irrational hatred! Let's all agree how horrible he is for hating some humans, and ignore how horrible it is that he's been sort of indoctrinated into a cult that has him fawning over his slavers. The shocking thing definitely isn't the fact that he likes any humans at all, it's that he hates some of them. How dare he. Right. It's totally fine for all the Good wizards to constantly hate on him, for having formed these opinions while enslaved and treated brutally. If a victim is mean to you, fuck that guy, you don't have to respect him at all, apparently. And the young wealthy wizard obviously can't free him, or do anything to make his life better, or even do the bare fucking minimum of maybe being patient and kind to him? Nothing weird about any of the house elf plots, no sirree. >.> Also. All the good children get to eat literally as much as they want at feast after feast after feast, heaps of dessert (... Made by slaves, but don't think about that), and they will never ever gain weight from it because they are just fundamentally Good, and only Bad and Lazy and Gross people are fat. The only exception is Mrs Weasley, who is only ever called "plump", I'm pretty sure. And then in the last book, there's that whole plot about how goblins have a different idea of ownership than the humans, and our heroes *immediately* work to disregard that, lie to the goblins, and steal from them without any apparent shame. And the unforgivable curses are forgivable now. It's ok because they're Good. Fundamentally.

Badness and Goodness is an inherent quality of a person, and it has nothing to do with their choices and actions, again and again in these books. Even though the Wise wizard tells the young wizard in book 1 that it's a person's choices that matter, there's so much in these books that doesn't match up with that. Also, we should forgive the serial child abuser - in the books, he does everything from threaten to kill a child's pet, to mock a child's appearance while denying her medical aid, to systematically sabotaging a child's grades because he had beef with his dad from when he was like 12 - because he was super, extra, extremely obsessed with a woman. He "loves" her, yet is also willing to torment her son, even worse than he torments all the other children for no reason. He is incapable of healthy grieving and moving on, and nobody ever suggests he do so. He can't be expected to behave like an adult, and all is forgiven because he's a good spy and he "loves" the woman he betrayed and got killed. Definitely don't think about how the Wise wizard let an abusive teacher do whatever he wanted, without any attempt at disciplining the teacher or protecting the students from him, because he was a spy and fundamentally, somehow, good way deep down. Being inherently Good fundamentally deep down in your heart excuses child abuse. Totally.

See Also: the Wise Wizard sending the Young Wizard back to his abusers year after year. Because. His abuser loves him? Really?? Abusers' Love is Magic???? C'mon.

Also, non of the wealthy characters can help the Poor Lovable Wizard Family, because they are just too prideful and would never accept it. Because being poor is shameful, accepting help is shameful, and being poor is totally a moral failing reflective of a failure to bootstrap, a thing to Take Responsibility for, not a symptom of a very broken system that isn't treating people equally. At the end, after beating up the big baddie... the house elves are still slaves. The centaurs and werewolves and goblins are still 2nd class citizens, if even that. Also, wizards can't help muggles with anything, and they have no moral responsibility whatsoever for their decision not to, say, cure cancer patients. Even as they'll do so for magic cancer patients. Because the muggles would "expect us to solve all their problems". They literally just let non-wizards die because they think, idk, that cancer patients dying of cancer aren't worth anything and probably also are failing to bootstrap their way out of having cancer?

Also this same logic justifies the systematic, deliberate, state-sanctioned brainwashing and memory-wiping of non-wizard humans. The ticket-taker at the Quidditch World Cup, for instance? Brainwashed out of his head. Memory wiped. Invasive, cruel, enslavement. He could have been there for weeks, given the unpredictable length of quidditch games. And pretty much nobody bats an eye. The Good wizards are still Good. All of this is funny. Muggles are still treated like that after the "happy" ending of beating up the 1x baddest baddie who could definitely only be defeated by one particular child soldier. Also, canonically, in the happy ending epilogue, Slytherin - the house of 99.9% evil children (supposed exceptions: the creep evil teacher spy (??) and the cowardly power obsessed fame-gatherer), founded by a racist for racists - still exists and still has the same reputation. Don't even get me started on the "love potions". Aka magical roofies. Sanctioned date rape drugs that are arguably worse than any real drug because they make you feel fake love. And that whole scene where a random girl tries to roofie the Boy Wizard Hero, instead roofies the Redheaded Boy Wizard, and it's all played for laughs.

Or the whole story about Evil Wizard's Dad, who was roofied constantly for years and forced into an unwanted marriage. He immediately leaves as soon as he's free of the drugs, leaving the woman he never actually agreed to marry and the child he never actually agreed to have. And the story is presented, at least in the books, as though we should feel sorry for the rapist, not her victim.

He shouldn't have left a kid with her - even if he just took him to an orphanage or something - because that clearly wasn't safe for the kid, but like. He'd been forcibly drugged out of his mind and in sexual enslavement for years, and was suddenly realizing he'd lost all that time, etc, so, he probably wasn't exactly in a great state of mind for remembering/thinking about and acting on things like that. His guilt is negligible compared to hers. Just. A whole bunch of occasions implying that nothing women do can be rape or sexual assault. Which... fits right in with her mystery books with trans villains, written under a pen name that just happpeens to be the name of the man who is credited with inventing conversion therapy. Yup. She got issues. One could go on forever. But I will stop. I don't want to give it too much brainspace anymore.

/I say, clearly giving it too much brainspace TLDR I used to love these books too but yeeeeah there's a lot I didn't really clock when I was younger. There's a lot of bashy and/or AU fanfic that holds up better, at least. It feels especially cathartic to read now when you find a really good one that Rowling would definitely hate.

I love it when women hate men. I love it when women are allowed to vent to each other about how horrible and creepy men are. I love it when women form friendships with and prioritize each other over relationships with men(whether they're attracted to them or not). I love it when women put men dni in their bios and on their nude photos and on posts on their blogs. I love it when women refuse to mollycoddle and accommodate entitled male feelings with "but this doesn't mean I hate all men, I know a few men who are great, I love my father/sons/brothers/uncles/male cousins/guy friends" I love it when women complain about men WITHOUT "not all men" being a disclaimer. I love it when women avoid socializing with/refuse to be around/befriend/get close to men because they know men can't be trusted. I love it when women make "kill all men" jokes. I love it when women offer absolutely no concern or care for men's feelings and if their misandry offends men whatsoever because why should we, men are the oppressor class who have raped and killed and abused us and kept us as subjugated as second-class citizens for millennia, they regularly mistreat us and the women in their own marginalized communities still every single day and make this world so much harder and more awful for us to be in, and if we choose to hate them and not spare them any sympathy then so be it, and I don't just mean "men as a class" either, you can be a woman who doesn't want to have anything to do with any man on an individual basis and completely cuts off men from her personal life too and ykw I will love and fucking support you in that because men deserve absolutely NOTHING from us. If they're so tough and strong then they can handle it just like they can handle being lonely.
